Half cheesesteak special with fries. Great price too!

This place has always been great. I'm not a bar person so I probably would have missed it if not for my parents. They like to go for here for dinner, and from time to time I'll go along. Getting to it then.... So, the staff are always great. I get a very welcoming and appreciative vibe. The woman behind the bar tonight was still in her scrubs from her 9-5... let me say, you're killing it girl. Go you! The other patrons are awesome too. I'm from the area originally so I really appreciate our locals and how we are to each other, mostly. Good, kind, hardworking people making the most of it. The stories of others interests me and there's nothing like a good local bar conversation. Cheers to Darby's. Keep up the good work!

If you look at a map showing the Delaware River boundary between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, you can see where the southbound river makes a sharp turn to the west, creating the 'neck' geographic feature of the Garden State and the elbow of Bucks County, PA. jutting into it's eastern neighbor. This part of the region is dominated by the ancient flood plains of the Delaware. Driving through feels more like the Louisiana bayous than the Northeastern states. There is alot more water than dry land in these parts, with narrow spits of land for roads and a few homes surrounded by lakes, ponds, marshes and of course, the Mighty Delaware. The folks around here have resided in this water world for generations. They are a tight community. When they want to socialize, Darby O'Gill's is where they meet to talk, drink, eat, play and inebriate. Yeah. It felt a little strange walking in for the first time with everyone looking up and following my steps to the square bar in search of a stool. But, my Eagles ballcap and 6'4" smile gave me a pass for the moment, so they just stared and waited to see what happened. The barkeep, Desiree, yanked me a pint of Yuengling Octoberfest, and asked to run my credit card before taking my food order. The lager was excellent. "I don't know you, honey. Have to be sure you can handle this." "No sweat. House rules are fine. Do what you gotta do." She returned with a more relaxed countenance and handed my card back to me. The sound of conversation and football games on the TVs returned to the room. I ordered their Paddy Melt and sipped on the dark rusty ambered brew. This joint was the diviest of taverns. Operated by Darby since 1998, and housed in a large building considerably older than that, it had been decades since it was cleaned thoroughly. The underflooring was exposed in many places and the knotty pine paneling was grease and beer splattered. Almost Heaven. West Virginia. The grilled sandwich was pretty good with loads of sauteed onions and crunchy rye holding a half pound of burger and melted swiss. The ketchup was watery, but what the hey? It tasted good and was filling with a shovel of fries for an extra buck. I paid with a reasonable tip for Ms. D, and walked out into the cool bright late afternoon sunlight. The parking lot was as torn up as the barroom floor. There was a ragged trailer park out back that appeared to be in the same condition as everything else around there. As I found my way out of this strange wet and desolate area, I was amazed that this place was part of contemporary Bucks County, and not a piece of land that time forgot.

Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, this bar is super divey and seems to be frequented mostly by locals. There are a couple of pool tables, a dollar a game and a bar area. You can order food, relatively cheap drinks. Kind of meh on the fact that you can smoke indoors, as I'm not a huge fan of my hair and clothing smelling like cigarettes.

Best wings around. ..

Great beer and wings. Specials every night. Try the crab bisque. Amazing!! Only downside is it is a smoking bar. But food can't be beat.

The "pretzel garlic knots" wear VERY good however they were just garlic knots with no pretzel color or flavor. Very good garlic knots and a banging cheese sauce but not pretzel like we expected. Five Four Bar & Grill has a large U shaped bar, stage for live bands, pool tables, booth seating,…read moretable seating and an area to have a catered event in a private room. They can hold 20-500 people for private events according to their website. The inside is dark and could use a bit of a refresh, but I wouldn't say it's close to the level of dive. It's certainly on the larger side compared to most bars in the area. The staff has always been nice, but service can get slow when the crowd size grows. Just the nature of things. Food wise the menu has a typical mix of pub grub - apps, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and several entrees. A friend was eating their jumbo Buffalo Shrimp off the starter menu and raved about them. I stuck to a Cheesesteak which was average but a deal at $9.50 -- the chopped steak was decent, cheese was good just needed a bit more. Hot peppers gave it some kick and the long roll was fresh. Their beer menu has around a dozen beers on tap. They dabble in more mainstream big beer/craft beer like your Goose Island IPA's/Lagunitas IPA, but do have a decent show of locals like Yards, Victory, Troegs and Weyerbacher. Bourbon wise I had a Knob Creek neat which was average price wise. The pour was on the generous side. Each time I've been here the crowds have been friendly and having a good time. The band we listened to was great and the sound was crisp. Five Four is a family friendly grill during the day and a fun place for adults later at night. Thanks guys!

A couple weeks ago she had the nerve to comment on my face in front of the entire table. She claimed that I "always give her dirty looks" and "always look so angry when I'm here". I was stunned and so embarrassed. For one, I don't know her personally, we have never had a conversation outside of her taking my order and quite frankly it's none of her business how my face looks anyway. Second of all how embarrassing is it to be called out in front of a bunch of people like that? I couldn't believe the words that came out of her mouth. Before I left I politely told her I didn't appreciate her calling me out like that and she got very defensive. Not an apology from her, she didn't care one bit. She started arguing with me and acting like I was overreacting and like she didn't do anything wrong. She should take a look at herself in the mirror and think twice before she speaks. I'll never step foot into this bar again.

The guy working behind the counter was pleasant and knowledgeable about their coffee offering which comes from Homestead Coffee Roasters of Upper Black Eddy. Their drink menu consists of hot/cold coffee, tea, lattes, and espresso based drinks. I tried the drip coffee and would highly recommend it. It is a private label version of Homesteads Darkness - dark & bold with notes of rich, smokey chocolate. I enjoyed the dark roast, rich chocolate and its bold full body. The cortado and espresso I had were ok. I found them to be a little too bitter, but there was a strong roasted earthiness flavor that I liked. On a return trip I'll have to try their Vietnamese coffee. Food wise I've had the sausage egg and cheese on a bagel and a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. They are simple and decent sized with simple folded egg patties and cheddar cheese on average bagels. The sausage had a little spicy kick and the bacon was pretty tasty (NOTE: they do offer pork roll as an option). I was given some hot sauce packets to go. You can also get sandwiches on a croissant. The rest of the menu is simple - toasts, sandwiches, salads, some items for the kids. They do sell their private label coffee beans in retail bags and will grind them for you. I'll stop in again if I'm in the area. The coffee and ambiance is great, the food is ok to good, service great and the idea of a non profit that supports community is commendable. Thanks!!
