Yada Yada cookie from Darby's Bakery 10/2018
    Vivian C.

Darby's Bakery of West Boylston made the cute cake that was served at a baby shower that I attended. The yellow cake was soft, tender, and not overly sweet. I was also told that the cookie I had selected from an assortment was called Yada Yada. I thought it was an oatmeal raisin cookie till I started to eat it. There was also shredded coconut and chocolate chippies. It was chewy and pretty good, but quite sweet.

The bread is great but so is the service: If you call ahead, they'll reserve a bread for you - they go fast!

It's a smallish place, and in addition to the breads, rolls, and such, they sell great foccacia and pastries.

The decor of this shop is delightful - there's a beautiful, colorful mural on the wall and lots of gorgeous plants. The tile on the coffee counter makes me feel like I'm on an exotic vacation. This is clearly a spot people love to hang out and get work done as almost every table - both inside and in the outdoor area - was full with someone on a laptop working on Labor Day, and I can see why - the vibes are great and the music is relaxing. There's an overall scent of spice and fancy coffee. I was really excited to see an Ube Shaken Espresso on the seasonal summer menu, so that's what I ordered - made with almond milk. The cashier that took my order was very polite and let me know that the ube cold foam was made with heavy cream and asked if that was ok. A glutton for anything ube, I said yes - however, I found it had a strong milk flavor that kind of overpowered the ube notes more than I'd like. The drink could have also been a little sweeter, I wonder if there was a flavored syrup or ube syrup I could have added. They had both dessert and food options, including a lot of Halal empanada options that looked delicious. I'd like to go back to try more of what is on the menu and see what's on their next seasonal menu - the Yemeni teas would be of interest, as well as the baked goods. I will certainly keep it in mind next time I'm in the area, it's a cozy spot with unique offerings you don't see in many places locally!

The frosting on the cake was so bitter that no one ate it at all! In addition, when I came to pick it up, they were just finishing the cake up and did not let it rest! When we started cutting it at the bday party, the cake was basically falling apart. I never had such a bad experience anywhere. I paid over $130 for the cake to end up throwing all frosting away. I called the same day and asked why frosting was so bitter, like metal taste, and at first, they hang up on me, and when I called back they said its because the color of frosting was red color! What a non sense excuse! They just added so much dye that it was impossible to eat!! It stained everything and I could still taste bitterness 2 hours after eating it. Also, sensative individuals could have gotten sick from it! You would think their bakers would try it first when they prepare mixture. I will definitely not going back again ever. Please be careful! In addition, they didn't put my decorations I brought for the cake a week before. Bunch of new people and bakers probably with no experience, but charging the same money. I would rather order from a grocery store next time for half a price and better quality.

Been here twice now and can't wait to go back to try more…read more Had a latte from here once but didn't love it. But wondering if it was just the type it was. Would give their coffee another try in future. The pastries were amazing though. The lemon bar - perfection. The brunch braid was okay - I liked the concept but I don't know if I'd get it again. Then came for lunch. Had a chunky monkey smoothie - it was a little watery in the middle but still delicious. The cranberry walnut chicken salad on sourdough was exactly what I was craving. And that sourdough - so good! The place itself is really cute and they sell some local items. There's a blind date with a book section and they sell Hoppy Pop (which is incredible). Everyone was super nice and friendly.

That's my gut reactor response to this question each time I'm asked and it's so made me a customer for lifffeeee. Like if you live in boston or nyc I bet this is commonplace for you and you can enjoy a laugh over this as you grip your phone pinky up - but for sweet old Holden mass it's like a tractor beam and I'm stepping in... willingly. my parents greatly enjoy the pastry from this place and I try to surprise them with something new each time. Haven't had anything I haven't liked thus far. I know there are drive through options nearby but this is 100000% worth the stop !
