You ever plan to eat at one place and then end up at another? That's how I found myself heading towards the (Dark &) Light Cafe in Mount Dora. I am grateful for a delicious vegan restaurant in historic Mount Dora. As I get older, I see the benefits of eating cleaner. This restaurant is in what appears to be a small food hall and I only found it because I was following other people. I went with the pretzel portobello sandwich, which was good if also an incredibly messy sandwich to eat. It starts falling apart after the first two bites. Very good, though - avocado, tomato, vegan cheddar cheese - you can taste the quality of the ingredients. Mind you, on a busy weekend it will take a few minutes to get your order because they do get busy and they are making everything fresh. The roasted potatoes served with my sandwich? Tasty, seasoned, and served piping hot. Next time, I will likely go for the jackfruit quesadillas or a lentil burger. Good first impression, if also a slightly messy one.

This is a cute cafe located in downtown Mount Dora! Since I have a dairy sensitivity I searched for vegan places, and Dark & Light was the top result! I decided to try their empanadas (the Meatless, Corn and Spinach). All of them were good but the meatless was by far my favorite! If you had told me it was impossible meat I would have said no way, cause it tasted like meat to me! The team here is super sweet and kind. I hope more continue to come to this place and make it more popular!

We were so impressed by this cafe! It is located inside of the Mt Dora Marketplace and offers a menu filled with lots of vegan options. The staff was all amazing! So welcoming and it was a pleasure to dine here. The frozen lemonade was the perfect refreshing drink and the veggie burger was delicious! I loved that it was made with veggies instead of soy protein. You can find some options with soy protein but I loved how many options didn't utilize soy protein. There is a great amount of seating and we really enjoyed our time. We will definitely be back soon!

Exciting to have this new venue join the marketplace! I have visited Argentina 2 times prior and have craved empanadas since. Now I have a place to go get authentic Argentine empanadas! They offer other pastries and vegan options too. I tried the spinach and the plant based meatless empanadas. Both were delicious! I also had an alfajores....that took me back in time to where I first tried one. Next time I want to try other options including their coffee! The owners are sweet and love providing great food and service. For 2 empanadas and 1 alfajores, I paid $13. You need to definitely try this place!

Absolutely love this place! It's a great vegan find. I was visiting Mount Dora and ate here for every meal during my stay! The eggplant panini was my favorite and the fruit nectar is heavenly. The service is great and the employees are all so sweet. If you're in town visiting and want a tasty healthier option, prefer vegetarian and vegan food, or just want something yummy, I highly recommend!!

Service is quick and friendly. It's a storefront restaurant, in a very old building. Decor is eclectic, sort of a mashup of different genres. Tried banderillas, which are artfully crafted skewers with chicken, cheese, zucchini , and roasted peppers, with some mango vinaigrette to dress. These are as nice to look at as they are to eat. Great starter, perfect for sharing. Also tried the Jack Fruit Quesadilla. An unusual combo - quesadilla stuffed with cheese and jack fruit marinated with guajillo sauce and then topped with pineapple, almonds, apples, and cilantro. Very unique taste, and delicious! Many other things to try on the menu. Definitely will stop in again whenever in Deland.

The outside seats were full and the sidewalk packed with spectators. The dining was empty so we had our pick of seats. We were greeted promptly and our server gave us plenty of time to review the menu while catching up. Our drinks were served quickly-I got a glass of sangria which was crisp and light, not overly sweet. The food was freshly prepared and served hot. Everyone raved about their choices. I got the vegan enchiladas and my husband got the nachos. Both were delicious. The enchiladas were topped with fresh shredded cabbage and tomatoes which gave enchiladas a nice crunch in each bite. The nachos were light-not overly drenched in cheese or cheese sauce like you find in most pubs nowadays. You could taste the vegetables. The dining room is cozy with a good view of the street. Everyone we spoke with was friendly and welcoming. If our vacation plans bring us to Deland again, I know they will include a visit to De laVega.

We didn't have a reservation and the wait time was over 40 minutes but we were able to find a couple seats at the bar. We came in for a couple drinks and some appetizers. The shrimp was delicious, the queso was to die for and the drinks were made to perfection. My husband loves their beer collection. I enjoy their expresso martinis. Honestly all the drinks I've had here have been great, that's just my go to at the moment. They were playing the game so we ordered a couple more drinks and sat at the bar for a bit. Great energy from everyone, including the staff. Loud but not super loud where we couldn't hold a conversation. Yard house has not let us down. There were several places to choose from, but this one seemed like a good fit because it wasn't overly loud, and we wanted to be able to hear each other. We initially sat outside, but we were told they had stopped serving the outdoor seating area, so we moved inside. Rather than wait for a server, we decided to order directly from the bar since it seemed like the faster option. There weren't enough seats at the bar for our group of five, so we grabbed a nearby booth. The bartender was friendly, and our drinks were excellent. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. Although people were not coming in, but some people were eating, and enjoying drinks throughout the restaurant, it seemed like the staff had started cleaning up for the night. A server came over, and we explained that we were only there for drinks. After we received our drinks from the bar, he returned and told us that we would soon have to get up so he could clean the table. Seriously? I looked around and saw several other tables where some guests were simply sitting, talking, and enjoying their drinks. They weren't eating either. It made us feel as though, because we had only ordered beverages, we weren't as welcome as everyone else. I chose not to let one person's behavior ruin our evening because I'd rather believe that one employee doesn't represent the entire establishment. In fact, the bartender was great, and the drinks were very well made. What disappointed me was the server's attitude. I wasn't aware that ordering drinks at a restaurant with a full bar wasn't enough to be considered a paying customer, especially when there weren't enough bar stools to accommodate our group. His approach came across as rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. Needless to say, we were not going to get up until we had finished out drinks, and we did not. I may return to try the food because the drinks were impressive, but if I ever encounter that same server again, I definitely won't be sitting in his section.

The menu offers a wide range of traditional Indian dishes, and I really appreciate that they allow you to customize the spice level to your preference. That makes it accessible whether you're new to Indian food or someone who enjoys a little heat. The daily lunch buffet is also a big plus, especially if you want to sample different dishes in one visit. The food itself is good and well-prepared, with solid flavors and generous portions. That said, it does feel like the kitchen leans toward catering to the general market. The spice profiles are toned down, and while that makes the dishes approachable, it slightly softens the authenticity you might expect from a more traditional Indian restaurant. One subtle indicator of that broader appeal is the wine list -- something you don't often see emphasized in more classic, traditional Indian establishments. That being said, Ammrit strikes a reasonable balance. It offers familiar, comfortable Indian cuisine that works well for a wide audience while still delivering recognizable flavors and quality ingredients. If you're looking for dependable Indian food in South Daytona with flexible spice options and a welcoming atmosphere, it's definitely worth a visit.
