Came here for lunch recently and was not disappointed. My friend and me both did the lunch Bento boxes. I had Pad Thai in mine (you can choose that or fried rice). I had the egg roll (other choice is gyzoa), California roll and I had the miso soup. They have a fairly extensive menu, featuring Thai and Sushi options. I was surprised at the portions, in a good way. The California roll was full sized and came with 8 pieces. My friend and me shared the egg rolls and gyzoa (dumpling). Both were crispy, not greasy at all and came with sauce. My soup was nice and hot and the pad thai had chicken in it and was delicious. We also tried one of the special rolls to split. We had the Ocean Roll - shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avocado and other goodness. This was so delicious. They also had a Lobster Tempura roll, but we didn't try that this time around. We were both stuffed after our lunches. The staff was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was clean. I go to a place near me for Bento boxes fairly regularly, and this was MUCH better. The food was amazing. However, the young hostess or waitress seated me at the farthest table because I had a service dog. I attributed this to ignorance and decided to give the restaurant a chance by requesting a different waitress beforehand. I've walked past Jk Thai Garden umpteen times here in Mt. Dora. Today, during the lovely Flower & Garden Festival, I finally stopped by for lunch. I was hungry for Massaman Curry with shrimp and rice, with a Thai Tea. That was exactly my order today and it was excellent. Some of the best Massaman Curry I've had in a while. Coconut milk, cinnamon, cardamon, cloves, peanuts, potatoes - so good! I loved it - could have done without the tails still on the shrimp (8 pcs.), but everything was good. Even the rice was cooked perfect. I will return for their Bento Box - only available on weekdays - pad thai, and Tom Kha soup. The restaurant itself has been around for a while - and it shows. The interior could do with an upgrade. But the bathroom was clean and outdoor seating is available. For a taste of Thai in the area, I would definitely recommend Jk Thai Garden and Sushi. read more

We've been trying to eat at this place for years! Visiting Mt. Dora for at least 5 years, each time we have gone this restaurant has been closed or we weren't going to eat. Finally the day came this past weekend where it was open and we were hungry! The entire restaurant and bathrooms were spotless! The service was good and the food was all fresh and tasty. We ordered the crab Rangoon for an appetizer, and it was really good! For entrees, we ordered the Pad See Ew with beef, the Spicy Salmon rolls, and cashews with beef and vegetables. All the food was excellent. The spicy Salmon was very spicy so beware of that sauce on top. The beef was tender and flavorful. Overall, we had a wonderful first experience at JK Thai Garden and Sushi, so we will definitely be returning to try more menu items! There is ample seating with a cute outside area to eat as well. Simply fabulous. Iced coffee, savory broth with tofu, bean sprouts, scallions, and fried garlic. The massamam curry presentation was as aesthetically appealing as it was flavor-filled. I had the combination (chicken, shrimp, and beef -- less the beef) - the carrot coins were flower-shaped... a small, but lovely touch. I also had the combination starter consisting of chicken satay, fried spring rolls, crispy wrapped shrimp, and crab rangoon; that appetizer, alone, made a nice meal for me. This was not the plan, but we stumbled into this little gem. We knew that Thai is always a good option if your vegan. The atmosphere has a good vibe. The service is exceptional. We asked about vegan options right up front. We were advised and ensured of dishes we would be able to be offered without oyster sauce and without any animal products. We got two great vegetable dishes with rice. The food was a good portion for lunch. The flavor was very nice. Super clean eats. We definitely would return. Food was amazing but I would have loved to be able to finish it. Customer service was okay but things could have been handled differently. A large party came in while me and my family were starting to eat our meal, they asked a waiter if they could have us moved but the waitress declined. The party was eying us uncomfortably for a while, when the waitress of our table finally came, she offered boxes and took my plate without even asking if I was done. Putting empty cans of soda INTO my unfinished plate. We felt rushed even though we were NOT done. Then when we went to pay, the waitress put a $25 gratuity tip and didn't give us the option to choose how much to tip her based on our service. We love Thai food, live super close to here, and yet the reviews kept us from checking it out because I assumed it would lead to disappointment. I think it was better than I expected, but not as good as I want. Mostly, it was super average Thai food which you would find anywhere. They do sushi and other Asian dishes as well - which was a bit overwhelming, and I wish it was focused solely on Thai fare. The service was kinda absent-minded - long time to take our order, messing up our appetizer order, didn't check on us after bringing the food, slow to bring the check, etc. The mixed Asian menu allowed us to get some seaweed salad though - something that I rarely pass up when I can order it. Their $5 version was pretty disappointing though. Firstly, it was propped up by a nest of inedible carrot strings, in order to make it appear larger/fuller. Not a good look or taste. The seaweed salad also came with krab - so non-vegetarian. Weird choice, and I would have preferred they just focus on making the portion larger, or decreasing the price. It was average. Overall they have good curry options, and a good pad Thai (although sweet Thai food is not my thing). However, the dishes appear to be cheap on the meats, even when paying the maximum price for the combo (steak/chicken/shrimp) option. You can be assured that you're getting a chicken dish with 2 pieces of beef and 2 shrimp. If you order something with tofu though, you'll get pretty much an entire block of tofu on your plate. So - it's OK if you are in need of a Thai fix - but you'll find a better dine-in experience in Orlando, and a better overall value/food for take-out at nearby places. read more

I was a little nervous when we walked in and the place was empty... we originally came to Mt Dora to have dinner t a different restaurant but the wait was insanely long and I was hangry! So after wandering around a little we found this place... sushi Thai combo... I like both so figured what the hell.... we sat outside to dine since it was lovely outside. Disclaimer: the Thai menu has pic so you can see each dish and the sushi menu is just a giant list of rolls with descriptions... it was a little overwhelming so we opted for Thai. Started with a hot sake... yum! We ordered the combination appetizer platter which had a little bit of everything. It was good, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't 2 of each item... which was kind of weird but it was pretty good... not over the top amazing, most of it was fried (gyoza, spring rolls, krab Rangoon, shrimp roll) but tasty. It came with 3 different dipping sauces... then we got the yellow curry with tofu and the chicken and spinach in peanut sauce... I'm a huge yellow curry lover... the sauce was chefs kiss! The tofu, great... there was prob the equivalent of an entire onion sliced up in the dish with some carrots and 3 potatoes.... an odd choice of veggies but overall pretty good...(Even though I pushed 90% of the onions aside). The chicken and spinach dish was good and very different... the spinach was just slightly blanched so it was almost like a salad... kind of. My parter loved the sauce, I thought it was closer to chunky peanut butter that was put in the microwave. Each dish came with jasmine rice.... one other thing, if you are looking for a nice leisurely dining experience this probably isn't the place for you... all the food came out in the blink of an eye... which made me question if it's all prepared ahead of time or if we just lucked out that we were the first ones there... I will say that by the time we left the restaurant was about 50%. It was good, would I go running back, no. Would I eat there again if I'm in Mt. Dora and want something quick... yes. read more

Check your credit card statement after you leave here. We had HORRIBLE service here and then had an additional tip (almost $15.99) added to the bill. I worked in the service industry for years and I like to give 20% always, even when they probably shouldn't get it. However, in this situation our waitress was horrible. We sat outside and she repeatedly ignored us. We sat for an extra hour waiting on service, and she was very rude. Like my Dad would have said, "Can't complain about the service, there isn't any." Manager said nothing but that they would look into it. We won't be going back. I must add this also happened to our friends who went here on a separate occasion. Wouldn't have even tried this place if I'd seen the 3 star rating before sitting down, but I'm so glad I didn't see that because it's so uncharacteristic for this place! We used to love this place with the old owners and we still love it with the new owners! Pros 1. They're very accommodating! Any adjustments we wanted to the food were not questioned, and not upcharged either 2. For appetizers we got the summer roll with tofu instead of shrimp, and the vegetable (tempura) roll which we asked to be topped with spicy mayo. For entrees we ordered the drunken noodles with tofu and there was a lot of tofu to noodle ratio which was nice! I got the green curry with tofu and it was awesome. The flavor was definitely there for all of the food! Everything was on point! 3. Our drinks never got empty--and our server was very sweet 4. Good sized portions! Cons 1. Upon walking on, there was an off smell about the front room--but I think I remember there being a faint "off" smell with the old owners too...so idk 2. I don't think the air conditioner was on--just the fans. And when it's 85 degrees outside, and you like your curry "Thai Hot" like I do, it's not a great mix. No matter how tasty the food is (and it was very tasty) it takes away from the experience when the room is uncomfortable. It felt hot and stuffy--but nothing that cracking a window couldn't have fixed! 3. If you're used to the restaurant from years ago-- the vibes have changed. Some good, some bad. It's definetlt knocked down a notch or two on the "classy" scale. If you're used to getting a crisp white table cloth...you still kinda get that but this time it's one of the "wipe clean" ones that feels less classy. Cups changed instead of the nice glasses it's more bulky "regular" restaurant glassess.
