I had this restaurant bookmarked for when I visited this area. I stopped in for a bite to eat. Loved that they are 100% gluten free so it made ordering easy. I ordered a single patty smashed burger with fries. It was a clean and healthy meal. Since I am also dairy free, I didn't order the loaded fries. Okay WOW! These fries are INCREDIBLE! While I didn't visit the brick and mortar, I was lucky enough to stumble upon their food truck in Sanford. Inside the food truck, there was a mountain of fresh-cut fries and I instantly knew they would be delicious. I ordered just a plain fry with three different dipping sauces. The fries were hot, crispy yet soft and they had the perfect amount of salt. Not only did they look fresh, but they tasted fresh. It's rare for fries to have a "wow" moment, but these were the best fries I've ever had. The man at the window that took my order was also so nice and patient while I asked him questions. Honestly I have been three times to this establishment, and after this final time, I don't think I'll be returning. The first time I came it was a busy night in Mount Dora. I got a ham and cheese sandwich with fries for about $21, and it was very underwhelming and did not (in my opinion) justify the price. The second time I came I placed my order and after I finished placing it was told "oh we just turned the ovens off actually and we are now closed. I came in at 3:57, not knowing they closed at 4 and was allowed to order before anyone said anything about being closed. It was quite awkward. I'm alright with waiting a little bit as long as the food is good. My mushroom Swiss burger had four little mushrooms on it and the patty was dry and under seasoned. Salted Fry - popular this Halloween season for the huge spider featured out front - has decent foot traffic and I'm convinced it's due to the friendly staff as much as the food. My bacon cheeseburger was good - nothing fancy or special and the lettuce on the bottom of the burger had seen better days - but I did finish it. First off, they are a gluten free restaurant and the buns are actually some of the better ones that I've ever had. They weren't dry and crumbly like some can be. The burger, called a smash burger, is not what I think about when I think smash burger-what I mean is they are on the thicker side to be smash burgers but they are delicious none the less. Loaded fries- yum. Their ranch is on point and I am a ranch connoisseur. The poutine fries were good, the gravy was a little salty but otherwise it was good, probably not my favorite but I didn't hate it. The burgers were juicy too. Since I consider myself a french fry connoisseur, I couldn't wait to give this place a try. We were there over the holiday season, so it was very busy, but we still managed to snag a table outside on their patio to take advantage of the cooler weather. What's neat about this restaurant is that the entire place is Gluten-free. You can't even bring in outside food, because they don't want anything contaminated. You place your order at the front counter and they give you a number to put on your table. They only offered non-name brand bottled soda to drink, so I didn't love my diet soda, but my friend did. We both went with tuna panini melt, since we knew we were having a big dinner. The meals arrived in a timely manner, still nice and hot. All sandwiches are served with fries, or you can order a separate, larger order. All the food was good, but nothing was "wow". I guess I had too high of hopes for the fries. They do offer a whole range of dipping sauces for the fries, but at $2.25 each for a little ramekin, we didn't bother with those. SERVICE: Service was really good. You order at the countertop and you take the table number and sit down. When your food is ready, they will bring it out to you. The manager who I believe was also cooking in the kitchen, came around to every single table throughout our stay there, making sure that everybody was doing OK. The staff was very nice and described the food pertaining to our questions. FOOD: I ordered the bacon Smashburger, which comes with a quarter pound of cooked smash meat. When I got the burger, I thought it would've been a lot bigger so I only got a single. I didn't feel as if the burger was big enough and that is why I gave four stars. Even if I had two meat patties in there, it just wasn't big. It was about 3 inches wide perhaps. The flavor was OK, but I still thought it was pretty good. The best part were the fries. They have a seasoning bar where you can put chocolate and sugar powder, spicy seasonings, salty, or sweet seasonings, etc.. The french fries were really good and cooked like old-fashioned style fries, which are my favorite. I loved how you were able to get a free cup of water, especially when you have a kid with you. The restaurant bathroom was a single bathroom, but it was clean enough. I felt like the piece of furniture in there was really gross and that the bathroom could be a heck of a lot cleaner looking. I have to say that their side of fries are actually pretty enormous, which was awesome. My husband ordered pizza, fries and poutine fries and it was really good. I definitely recommend that anybody who comes here better be eating the fries. AMBIANCE: The place is very casual and it's a place where you go up to the counter and order and they bring food out to you. They had an outside patio with many umbrellas which I thought was very nice and it was set up on a deck with a long train car connected to the side of it. It would be nice if the train car provided cocktails or perhaps was an air-conditioned place for guests to sit in because it got very crowded after we ordered and sat down. It just looks like a very cute train car that's not being utilized. The restaurant sits at the end of a street near the lake Inn and we thought it was very cute and overall enjoyed our time there. Originally we we're going to try another spot in Mt. Dora but parking was tricky this Saturday. We easily parked past the train tracks and walked back. The Salted Fry was open and a mural of fries on the building was calling me. It's a super cute place with indoor and outdoor seating. They have an extensive menu of not only fries but hot and cold sandwiches. They even have a salt & sugar bar. We ordered sandwiches with fries and a cherry soda and a root beer soda. Some guy in a store tried to convince us to go elsewhere but we stood our ground and went to the salted fry and now I will always listen to my heart. And my gluten free daughter. So good I don't even have words for it. I'm 50 million years old and should not have enjoyed the chicken fingers like a five year old. And the honey mustard sauce, okay I would have just been happy with that ( would have looked pretty weird though) . And let's get to the name of the restaurant.. the salty FRY . You better have the best of the best when you feature one menu item . This is one of those places you go to and then think about for days after because it's so good. Not to mention what a relief it is to go somewhere that makes it safe to be gluten-free without fear of cross contamination. All the flavored salts and homemade sauces make the entire menu so customizable. I can't wait to go back! I'm happy there is a local restaurant that caters to our gluten-free community. But I hate to say it, this was a huge miss for us. Decided to go out for dinner instead of cooking tonight and my fiancé suggested we try out The Salted Fry. We've been wanting a poutine fix and unfortunately, we are still wanting it. We ordered the Smash burger, cheesesteak panini, and a regular poutine to share. Since we were sharing the poutine we both opted for the potato salad as our side. Our food came out about 10 mins after we'd settled into our seats which was good timing. You know how if a smash burger isn't done right it's dry? Well this one was very dry. The potato salad looked promising, but looks proved to be deceiving. It was flavorless. I tried adding salt and pepper, it didn't help. The poutine was ok. It definitely made me wish I'd chosen fries as my side over the potato salad. My fiancé had the cheesesteak panini and reported it as "not too bad" but that it was difficult to eat as the bread fell apart and the meat wasn't chopped for his liking. The inside of the restaurant is clean and has a cute whimsical woodland feel. I don't know if we'll be visiting again. We left a 20% tip because it's not the servers fault. Total cost was over $29. This wasn't a good value to me to come back. The French fries were very good.
