House salad with grilled chicken
Jenny L.

We were in the area and stopped by for a bite. This place was inviting and had a great selection of healthy options. I had a house salad with grilled chicken. I never thought of serving spinach warmed but it works! Ambiance-wise, this place has a bit of a cozy intimate vibe to it.

They have beer and wine, but also BYOB

Joey Z has a huge Mediterranean inspired menu ranging from Greek to Italian. The service was super friendly and fast. They offer beer and wine, as well as BYOB at no additional charge. They brought complimentary pita bread for the table, which was good. The main dish was ok, but I would definitely come back to try more menu items. The inside is small and cozy, good for family dinner or a date.

Consistently excellent food keeps us coming back! I love that' it's small, quiet, intimate dining area. Perfect for a date night or a nice dinner having conversation with friends. Service is always very attentive and friendly. And the diversity of the menu is sublime. Tonight I had the eggplant, stuffed with feta and spinach topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella. Dessert I had the Floridian crepe, which is fresh strawberries and cream cheese. Just fantastic! Joey knows what he's doing!

I have been here a handful of times, but I'd like to come back for their breakfast and fondue. Their service is good here. The servers are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I came for lunch once and sat outside since I had my dog. The server gave my dog a water bowl and some bread. That was very thoughtful. I've had lunches and dinners here and will say that the food is not bad, and not spectacular. It can be a bit on the pricey side. The interior of the restaurant is a bit lacking, and they seem to have kept the Christmas decorations up for years. I don't mind it much, but I did think it was odd. During this visit, we came for dinner and had: - chicken gyro with onion rings - hummus - pureed chick peas, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Garnished with cucumbers and tomatoes with pita bread - sesame filet mignon stir fry - with green and red peppers, onions, broccoli, sesame sauce. Served with basmati rice. The food was good, and hit the spot. I do plan to come back and try other things on their menu.

Recommend!! Beautiful restaurant in Port Jeff! We got the fondue with huge portions. Will for sure come back to try the pesto!

Had a great Friday dinner at Joey Z! The cozy and warm ambiance made us feel right at home. As soon as we sat down, a gentleman gave my son a sticky toy, which was a nice touch. Our server was super friendly, and the kids' menu had plenty of great options. We got a cheeseburger for our son, which came with salad and fries--perfect for him! My husband and I split the stuffed flounder, and it was absolutely delicious, with fresh veggies and just the right portion for two. Oh, and the warm pita bread with tzatziki at the start was a great surprise! Desserts were awesome too. We had huge brownie with ice cream and tiramisu. Top notch. Definitely coming back!

A quaint, quiet, intimate restaurant in the heart of Port Jeff. With an eclectic menu, with such unique items, you can't go wrong with this spot. It works really well. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I got to speak to Joey Z the owner who was super friendly and had great recommendations. He was very helpful when it came to what I should order. I got the croissant French toast with bananas, and it was really delicious. My Uncle is a local and frequents the spot and gets the pancakes rolletini; It's his favorite. My husband got the bowl with eggs, he said it was delicious. If you want a quaint local spot, this is the place to try. It's small so make sure you get there early if you plan to go on the weekends, it did get a bit crowded.

Popped into this lovey, wood polished establishment for lunch and ordered up crispy juicy coconut shrimp app along with a bowl of lobster bisque soup to start. The soup was creamy and delicious with big lobster chunks, not having to hunt for it or just tasting seafood broth here ;) Both came out quick and were on point. Personally followed that up with a hot a buttery lobster roll. It was fresh and juicy even before adding a bit more butter. They serve it up on a proper roll that was slightly toasted but soft with each bite. My Mr had two of the juiciest lobster tails with cole slaw and a garden salad. Sadly couldn't stay to try out a dessert since we had the baby wanting their liquid lunch too, but know the wait staff was super sweet and quick getting all that was needed and asked for super timely. *Noted: Street and municipal parking lot available. Good stable Koala changing table in the ladies room.

I had the clam linguini, and it was one of the best ones I've tried. My pasta came with a side salad, which was fresh and tasty. The coconut margarita was too good! Had to get another one. My husband had the lobster roll. Our friends had the seafood paella (which was devoured) and fried oysters. The fried oysters tasted more like dough than oysters though.

Limited beer selection would be the only thing I would change but you can find something that works. Wine selection is decent. We had the Mussels in a wine sauce which were very good, the oysters Rockefeller which were the best I've ever had, including when I make them, the fish and chips which were outstanding and the brussels sprouts which were also very good. Reservation was easy to make on Resy. We arrived a bit early and they took us in no problem. We've tried a number of places in PJ and we've really enjoyed most of them but I think we're going to be regulars at Castaways. It was really tremendous!

The restaurant was packed, but people were also finishing up their meals so we gave it a shot. We were able to sit outside and the outside dining area was set up really nice and comfortable with bistro lighting and even some potted palm trees. Felt more like San Diego than Port Jefferson. Inside was also tastefully done up in the nautical theme which is good to know if it's a rainy day or in the colder weather. I've read some reviews about the service and we had the exact opposite with super attentive service. Our server, Brianna came over right away and took our order in no time. I mentioned doing a dish gluten free and she asked if I had celiac. She went above and beyond making sure that my meal would be safe to eat and offered substitutions so there would be no cross contamination. I've had the condition for 18 years so I know pretty well what I can tolerate and that most places let you down and I just deal with it. That wasn't the case at all here and Brianna made sure of it. We started off with the spinach artichoke dip and this was one of the best versions I ever had. Like in the top 3 really and one the other two was home made. It was that good. I had plenty of carrots and celery to nosh on with the dip and they kept the bread on a separate plate altogether. Like I said, they really understood my condition I also had bariatric surgery back in the winter and I'm slowly venturing out in the world of solid food. So I picked the surf and turf steak and lobster sandwich. I figured I know I can handle steak if done right and I wouldn't be too bummed if I couldn't tolerate the lobster. Brianna had it served to me on a really good gluten free bun. This sandwich really worked out so much better than I thought it would. The steak was exactly to order and the lobster was super tender. I was only able to have maybe a fifth to a quarter of it. That's equally because that's all I can physically have these days and because the sandwich was beyond huge. The rest of the family's choices were home runs too and included a killer wedge salad, a perfectly cooked burger and salmon. Those were devoured so no complaints with those as well. It should be noted by the reactions by everyone at the adjacent tables were having a very similar experience and it was just a really enjoyable time. Our family is getting older (aren't we all), so diners and moments like this are so special. Castaways definitely held up its end of the bargain. I'm so glad we stopped in, and I can't wait to stop back the next time we're down port.

By far and away the worst I've experienced. I took away a star for this reason. The new spot aesthetically is just okay. As always with local restauranteurs little to no attention paid to the noise level. My ears were bleeding throughout dinner. The restaurant needs decor which creates a warmer inviting presence. Our food was delicious but the wait time for the meals and drinks was insufferable. BTW, the wait time for the check was equally as painful. To the owners, get your (you know what) together and figure this out. You will not succeed unless immediate improvements are made.

We ordered fried calamari as appetizers and a zuppa di pesce - while zuppa is translated as soup in English, the dish is closer to what may be considered a fish stew. In addition to the fried calamari we also ordered a large salad that we split. Cova is a unique restaurant that serves dinner in a family-style format. This means that the entrees are designed to be shared between two or four people. While the food is excellent, for a hungry person, the amount per serving is not worth the price. Unfortunately, the cappuccino maker was not in service, so I ordered a regular cup of decaffeinated coffee. Regrettably, the coffee was not to my liking. The Takeaways: 1. The food is very tasty. 2. The coffee is not good. 3. The price to portion ration is poor. 4. Parking is ample. 5. Make reservations.

*January 2026 Restaurant Week*…read more My wife's bestie made plans for the (4) of us to meet for dinner. We all live close so Fifth Season Restaurant was chosen. I haven't been here in a very long time so I'm excited to see how the restaurant has stayed in business over the years. We are shown to our table upstairs. The bar area on a Friday night looks fun and active. There's great views of Port Jefferson harbor so the restaurant ambiance is nice. We're seated and are given restaurant week menus as well as the wine/cocktail list. Listen, It's Friday nite and I don't want a wine cooler! Give to me a standard Martini stirred (Shaken is just dumb) with stuffed blue cheese olives. The ladies order appletini's and we're ready to order off the restaurant week menu. The menu has a nice selection of different offerings, I'm into all things local so I'm going to start with the beet salad and Red Snapper. The beet salad was loaded with beets! I love beets, they did a good job with this started dish. I must point out, the dish must have been prepped earlier in the day. The green salad was slighty wilted when served to me. The Red Snapper, what is that sauce on top? And the fish was sitting on a bunch of zoodles?? The fish wasn't seasoned, it wasn't very flavorful. I'm eating around the zoodles, meh. The cheesecake I ordered, it was also just a standard dessert. I didn't finish the fish or my dessert. Review is over, Fifth Season Restaurant? See you in another 5 years.

The salads we felt were small for the price but were tasty. The main course was delicious and a nice portion.
