Cute little restaurant in Port Jefferson. We tried their Greek and Italian food on this visit. A saganaki gyro meet with roasted potatoes, fresh veggies and your choice of salad or soup. Johnny chose the lemony chicken soup. I had the chicken franchaise (sp?) Greek salad and capellini noodles. Huge portions. You could easily split an entree. Our server was friendly and professional. I love supporting a small business, and I try to tolerate nonsense but yesterday we walked out. Spoiler alert: their $25 deep dish pizza is focaccia bread! First, I will say we enjoyed the complimentary pita and tzatziki. Plus, our server was nice, and the inside looks beautiful with the hanging lights. We were intrigued about their only NY Deep Dish Pizza brag, so we decided to try it. It will cost you $25 without toppings. 35 min later, we still have no food. I got up to look for a server and there is not a person in sight, a door swung open and there were all the servers hanging in the kitchen, I'm assuming waiting on orders. The owner walked by and we were going to talk to him about the service, he looked at us with a big thumbs up smile and spun around and disappeared. The server finally shows up and the garlic knots and pizza arrive. It's a plain pizza; we asked if this was the one we ordered and he picked it up and disappeared (we ordered toppings). I left at this point bc my parking meter was almost up and my tolerance meter expired. They comped the garlic knots and didn't charge us for the toppings and gave an apology. As for the pizza, this is NOT deep dish pizza, it's a flavorless focaccia bread with light sauce and light cheese (plus toppings). I had the Gyro omelet for breakfast. Service could not have been better. Atmosphere is decent. It's very clean which is nice, of course! It does take a long time for the food to come out (at breakfast, we haven't been here for anything else). So I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have time to relax, but if you have the time it's a great place and the food is very good. Also, they served the best bloody mary I've had in many years! Cozy & relaxing rainy Saturday night dinner. Still cool out so not crowded yet. We had reservations for 7 people at 6 pm. Service was good. Teddy was our server. Lots of menu choices from burgers to steak, seafood, pasta, Greek & Italian dishes. They also do cheese & chocolate fondue which is a bit pricey. We did not try the fondue. Calamari & dolmas for appetizers. Lemon chicken, lentil & squash soup all were good, not salty. We all had different dinners. We came here for the first time and were not impressed. The service was good, but the food was so-so. We were greeted by a handsome man (a good start) and then seated. They put down a complimentary basket of pita that had tons of butter and Parmesan cheese. Again, good start. We ordered drinks and that's when things started going downhill. Our drinks took 10 minutes to come out in a restaurant that had two other tables, both of whom were about to leave. That was the pattern for the rest of the night. I think our server was the bartender and perhaps even the chef. Every time he disappeared, we wouldn't see him to 15-20 minutes. We were there for almost an hour and a half for what amounted to salad and an entree for each of us. Why?! The food itself was also a let down. Nothing was bad, we didn't dislike anything, but nothing was good either. The salad was fine but the lentil soup was not Greek style, meaning it had no zing (lemon). I came for lunch once and sat outside since I had my dog. The server gave my dog a water bowl and some bread. That was very thoughtful. I've had lunches and dinners here and will say that the food is not bad, and not spectacular. It can be a bit on the pricey side. The interior of the restaurant is a bit lacking, and they seem to have kept the Christmas decorations up for years. I don't mind it much, but I did think it was odd. During this visit, we came for dinner and had: - chicken gyro with onion rings - hummus - pureed chick peas, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Garnished with cucumbers and tomatoes with pita bread - sesame filet mignon stir fry - with green and red peppers, onions, broccoli, sesame sauce. Served with basmati rice. A quaint, quiet, intimate restaurant in the heart of Port Jeff. With an eclectic menu, with such unique items, you can't go wrong with this spot. It works really well. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I got to speak to Joey Z the owner who was super friendly and had great recommendations. He was very helpful when it came to what I should order. I got the croissant French toast with bananas, and it was really delicious. My Uncle is a local and frequents the spot and gets the pancakes rolletini; It's his favorite. My husband got the bowl with eggs, he said it was delicious. If you want a quaint local spot, this is the place to try. We happened to find this place while stopping in the area after completing our 2 day Level Up pickleball camp in Nesconset. We live in San Diego and wanted to make sure we had some NY deep dish pizza while on Long Island. We absolutely enjoyed our dinner last night! We had a custom ordered deep dish pizza which was fabulous. My wife enjoyed an expresso martini and glass of chianti which we really enjoyed. What a great find in downtown Port Jeff. We came in on a Friday evening. Comfy dining room with big screen tvs showing scenes of Greece. It was very cool. Food: we had white sangria, which was not too sweet and was delicious. We had various stuffed pitas and a special of the day, sea bass with escarole and beans. I've lived in PJS for years and decided to try Joey Z's since they had great reviews. However, my experience was totally different. First, I waited far longer than the ten minutes promised. It turned out that it was already sitting there for a while but someone failed to let me know. Second, when I got home, the meal was not as described. It was supposed to be chicken, cheese in a pita. It came with extra things not stated when I asked. It had onions in it that I specifically asked about not to be there as I'm allergic and had very little cheese even though it's a "melt". Very disappointing. The only plus I can give is that they sent the driver to get the meal and promised a refund. I could hear the owner in the background sounding very skeptical. Didn't leave a warm fuzzy about him. In fact, he was so busy talking about Aruba with others that he didn't even consider to ask me about my order for at least 20 minutes. Others may be satisfied but I'm certainly not happy about the issue since I had just recovered from the flu and this was my first attempt after 2 weeks of trying takeout. Lost a future customer.​ UPDATE: I will state here, the owner "dost protest too much, methinks" in his reply. Mr. Z. seems to think that this is high school and that him posting here has any effect upon me. The fact is that his reply, accusing me of lying, steps well beyond the reply of any reasonable professional business owner. This has no impact upon me but certainly makes him look foolish. The fact that he childishly did not capitalize my first name and needed to fully capitalize the word "CON" after it is very telling of the level of maturity I dealt with. The fact that he put a large percentage of words in all caps is also a bit telling. His accounting falls short of the full context of the conversation and distorts the happenings of the evening. He harps on the chicken which I openly said I found in the gyro after digging through the lettuce, tomato and onions during the one phone call I made. I took a picture, sent it and waited for the return call. The fact that he is ignoring the dangers of putting things in his food not specified on the menu and were questioned about before ordering is a bit ridiculous. Food allergies are not a joke, but he is certainly trying to belittle that. He makes note that I was seated at a table by the register with a mask on. Yes, I had a mask so why would it be reasonably assumed that I was dining there? There were two women I dealt with who knew I placed a takeout order, and they said nothing about me taking a seat by the register. I'm 100% certain his cameras would confirm that. So, when he writes, "the whole staff just figured since you were [sitting] down in the main dining room at the front window you were waiting for another party to join you", it does not stand up; clearly, a lie since I had to pay for the order at the front register and he has admitted it was refunded. Does any diner ever pay for their meal ahead of being served? And I'll note that he stated that he drove to my house ("OVER THERE") to pick up the food and ensure I got my refund. So, unless he lost 40 years of age in that time, my camera will prove that it was his driver and, in fact, he earlier states so in an inconsistency. While in the end, I did receive a refund, the whole experience will forever deter me from trying to go back. The fact that he thinks I would is laughable. I leave the conclusions in the capable hands of the readers to make a decision here, but I urge you to take note of some of his numerous other low rated reviews and the replies he made. I'll specifically make note to his reply under the Kerri B. 2-star review (with pictures) about having to wait too long and the fact that her deep-dish pizza was not what was expected. He wrote in reply, "Thanks so much for the review, can't wait to see you back soon. Next time we [will] make the pizza deeper for you. You know we can't make it too deep just in case someone falls in. Just a precautionary measure. You should have given me two more stars one for the big smile i gave you and one for the thumbs up. Joey zee signing off, remember just be happy ..". Obviously, he did not take her review seriously based on that immature reply. read more

Walking by this hidden gem since I moved to the area in 2022. It's definitely soup kind od day. When I found that they had butternut squash i was over the moon. Im a huge judge of mozzarella sticks. Joey Z's is located in a very nice area on the Main Street in Port Washington. At first, I stopped at two other restaurants who were too busy to seat us at 7:30 on a Friday. However, when I walked into Joey Z's I was immediately given a warm and charismatic greeting by Joey himself and seated right away. The inside is lovely with candles at each table and beautiful lighting fixtures. A very nice atmosphere. The menu has a wide variety of items from Burgers to Mediterranean food to pasta. I started with the hummus appetizer which was superb. It was huge and came with pita bread, cucumbers, tomatoes and more. For my main entree I wasn't feeling too adventurous so I ordered a pasta dish with angel hair, marinara, and grilled chicken. The presentation didn't look all that pretty when it was brought to the table but if you look past that it was super tasty and the portion was so big. We got a table for 3 without reservation on Friday night. The restaurant had a nice warm atmosphere and large enough space where I didn't feel crowded in (left side). Warm pita with tzaki sauce was served gratis. Good service from the start. They had a nice kids menu plus kids activities (wiki stix). The menu was extensive with a nice variety of seafood ,meat, Greek, Italian, American dishes. Our son (5 years old) got a cheese burger, which came out before our meal like we asked. I'll be honest, I picked this place for our overnight stay in the area because it was one of the few accepting reservations so last minute. But HO LEE The ambience is romantic, cozy, and cool. Service is professional and quick. Food is outstanding. Huge pile of *hot*, *soft* pita and tzatziki delivered to your table from the outset.
