I've tried to get into Prohibition multiple times while in Port Jeff but since it's tiny and there's limited sitting we never could till this weekend when we went earlier in the day! Boy oh boy will we be back!! First the waitress, hostess, bartender, bus boy the list goes on we're amazing and all so attentive! It was very relaxing in there we had 7 people (3 of which were kids) and we got a nice booth in the back)! The FOOD one thing was better then the next we got the kung pow cauliflower with hummus, wings, Caesar pesto wrap, chicken sandwich, kids cheeseburger and kids pasta all was FANTASTIC!! Stop by on Labor Day weekend. We were immediately seated. The theme for the restaurant fit the name accurately. I ordered the bar burger (I believe it's called) with fries. Our server was nice, regularly stopping by to check up on us. My burger was not the most savory burger. The flavor was dull. It was cooked well done as I asked so that was good. My favorite part of the restaurant has to be the music. They played 2010s throwbacks the entire time and as a millennial it got my table pumped up! 4 stars for the friendly service & music. read more

After my most recent visit I have to change my rating from 4 to 3 stars. I visited with two friends, we sat at the bar. We each put in our order for a drink and food. My salad, which had some dry veggies like leafy greens, chickpeas, tomato, barely any dressing, and a couple of grilled strips of chicken in it was 30 bucks. Completely unreasonable price, nothing on that salad dish would justify this to be that pricey, but I'll let it slide since I knew that when I ordered. My cocktail was warm (noticed the difference when I went to Castaways after and had a similar drink, and it was chilled, made all the difference!). But the real head-scratcher to us was that when we wanted to close out, we asked for separate checks for the 3 of us, and it seemed to be a real big impossible deal for the bartender. She made that VERY clear to us and almost broke down in tears and called her boss. I tried to amend the situation and said it's fine, I can just pick up the whole check. But seriously, if I go to a bar that charges 30+ bucks for food, plus $15 drinks, I'm not really looking to give people over a hundred dollars worth of a loan hoping they pay ME back. It is up to the restaurant to collect that from them. What do you do if 3 separate people show up, would you expect some stranger to pay their bill too? We only had one food item and one drink each, nothing crazy. But clearly it was a big deal to the bartender. Grabbed a bite after taking the ferry with the family (Mom Dad, 3 kids ages 15-9). The kids loved their burgers and chicken sandwiches and the falafel bowl was solid and surprisingly filling. Our waitress was patient and very friendly. We love when our server does not rush us. The chicken sandwich was fresh and crispy and the cucumber salad with falafel was fresh and delicious! Next time I want to get the giant pretzel. It looks so good on the table next to us. We went for a late Saturday lunch and there were people there, but it wasn't too noisy so we were able to have a conversation. A wonderful spot for a light-er late lunch/early dinner on a chilly Saturday afternoon!! I'm sure this centrally located "watering hole" in beautiful downtown Port Jeff must be HOPPING at busier times, but we got right in and had WONDERFUL service "off" hours (about 4:30-5pm). I had the sweater weather salad (YUM!!!) with a side of sweet potato fries (awesome) and my brother and S.I.L. both had the French onion soup, and a shared steak and cheese hero. Other than both of them commenting that their soup was topped with toooooooooo much cheese (yep, it WAS a "bit" more cheese than soup!!) we were all VERY happy with our choices. Cozy, great service, beautifully decorated, and (mostly) reasonable prices, what's not to love? If I lived in the area, this gem would definitely be in my rotation!! read more

Cozy, fun, small restaurant with bar. They don't take reservations but you can leave your name on wait list and get a call or text when a table is ready for you. We were lucky to snag a couple bar seats from people who were seated. Had a couple drinks at bar. Bartender was super friendly and attentive. They have a great specialty drink menu. This isn't a place to come to if you're counting calories, because just about everything is decadent or deep fried. And it's soooo worth it! We started with the sticky spicy ribs and they were so flavorful and fall off the bone juicy! Fried pickles were perfectly crisped with an awesome dipping sauce. Our dinners were all amazing! I went with the steak sandwich. Steak is marinated, tender and delicious. With cheese on garlic toast. It was so generous I could only finish half. Subbed mashed potatoes instead of fries, and they were fabulous! Creamy with a tasty brown gravy. My husband got the deep fried burito and loved it as well. We came with another couple, they also loved the food. My one friend was especially impressed by a lavender drink they had on the menu. She doesn't like tequila so asked for Tito's instead. They happily accommodated the request, and it was delicious! Generous pours on mixed drinks. My husband had a Jack & ginger that was equal parts. The way you want it! Our server was super nice and also very attentive. We were fortunate to get this cozy table that all by itself like a nook in the back of restaurant. We felt like we had our own private party. I haven't been here in a minute, and during my last visit it was earlier in the day so I ordered off the brunch menu. This time, I went with a group of 6 for an earlier dinner and some drinks. The service we received from our hostess and server team (Chloe and Emmy) was great - from the quick support and updates we received as we waited for a table at the bar - to the attentiveness to our orders. Two of us in the group had food allergies which we were asked about thoughtfully and then provided with easy side substitutions as needed. It's always great to go to a place with options where the server knows the specifics about how items are prepared - especially when it comes to cross contamination. For my drink, I got the Blueberry Lavender Margarita which was a 10/10. For food, I got the "That's My Jam Burger" on a gluten free bun with a side salad. The burger was cooked well and the fig jam and prosciutto combo was delicious. Will totally be back here in the future! read more

The skirt stake sandwich. The sandwich was tasty but extremely empty. For one of the most expensive items on the menu at around $27, it wasn't worth it. The hero was cut in half, and both end pieces were just plain bread. Inside, it wasn't filled enough -- barely any cheese, peppers, or meat. The skirt steak came in tiny bits, like someone sprinkled leftovers instead of making a real sandwich. Honestly, it looked like it was made by a kid. Came here for date night on a Thursday with no reservation and had no issue getting a table around dinner time. Quaint little bar/restaurant that has a cozy feeling to it. I wouldn't necessarily say it has a prohibition/speakeasy vibe like the name would imply, but I enjoyed the atmosphere nonetheless. Decided to have a few drinks and split some appetizers. Starting with drinks, we tried their hibiscus gin, blueberry margarita, and the smoked old fashioned. The former two were the real standouts for me and excellent refreshing summer drinks on a hot day! The old fashioned is nothing to scoff at either though, they do theirs right on a drink that's easy to screw up. Moving on to food, we split the Mediterranean platter and an order of Buffalo wings. The platter gives a nice assortment of dips and veggies that are easily shareable, but don't expect the finest Greek quality around, still tasty though. The wings though were great, good portion and the wings felt substantial, could tell they were better quality and the sauce was as quintessential buffalo as it gets, exactly what we were looking for. The rest of the menu looked good too and I'd be eager to come back to try some more items any time. Service was good, checked in on us frequently and didn't rush us either which is always appreciated. There is happy hour every day, with deals currently for 20% of appetizers (previously 50% off) and $2 off drinks, so a great place to meet up with friends. I went with the blueberry lavender margarita which was strong and sweet. We only ordered appetizers, but they come in decent serving sizes to share. It's my second time at this very trendy spot in Port Jeff! I still can't believe how much Port Jeff has changed from the days I used to skip my Stonybrook classes and chill here. It just so happened that a friend from college now lives out in this area so I ventured out to show her the ropes but to also see what Port Jeff has been up too since I'm not in the area of Long Island all too much anymore. My first visit here was pre pandemic. A birthday dinner with a donut chicken sandwich and some drinks were enjoyed. But my most recent visit was so pleasant, I wouldn't mind coming here again and again. This spot was hopping. Yes it was a Friday night, but on a cold and rainy day in Port Jeff, the crowd could be sparse. Not here! We were lucky enough to leave our name with the host and she rang my phone as two spots opened at the bar. This spot has a vibe, with having super trendy drinks and fun menu items. This time I tried a Smokey old fashion and the empanadas. Both were amazing! The two women behind the bar ran everything so smoothly and had great suggestions. Small place with limited seating. Although we came in Jsnuary, the restaurant was cold! They tried to use a small space heater to no avail. Service was friendly but it took a long time to even get 2 beers off tap. Soup arrived late too (thank God it was hot). Burger was good but subbing a small salad was additional $3. When we threatened to leave the food suddenly showed up. Had to ask for ketchup and salt/pepper. We had similar experience in the past but decided to try again. My friends and I decided we wanted to eat in Port Jeff and we decided to book a reservation at Prohibition ahead of time. I have absolutely no complaints! The service was incredible, our waiter was Shannon and she was very attentive and helpful with all of our orders, including someone in my party with a nut allergy. The ambience of the restaurant is lovely, and we kept talking about how great the music was. As for the food, I decided to get a mac and cheese bowl and my boyfriend ordered the steak and cheese sandwich. The mac and cheese was definitely one of my favorites that I have ever had! It was delicious and next time I come, I would definitely add some chicken cutlets to my order. My boyfriend also loved his sandwich and the entire table was completely satisfied with their meal as well, especially the fries. Mehhhhhhh I heard so much hype and while my sandwich was delicious, it was not exactly what I was expecting. The Brussel sprouts had the most amazing flavor but were very undercooked and you couldn't really enjoy them. My boyfriends sandwich was a lot better than the one I had and for $95 dollars for two entrees an appetizer and a beer it was not worth it. Let me start off by saying the place is tiny - which is okay, so fair warning, you could be waiting a long time on a busy night. I did like the atmosphere, very chill, and perfect location right off of main street. The prices are crazy expensive. The food was good, it wasn't great. I was expecting top notch the way he talked about it - and how their slogan is "illegally good food". I beg to differ. Did I mention the prices were expensive? Oh, right - I did. The stuffed oreos were disgusting, I didn't even know a restaurant could mess that up. I tasted more dough than the actual oreo. One last thing this restaurant does terribly wrong - what's up with having one bathroom? The line is unbelievable. They even have a chair outside of the bathroom so one of the many people waiting can sit on, but mainly you're standing in the way, down a ramp, of waiters walking back and fourth into the kitchen. read more

Got dinner at Prohibition on a weekday night. Food was decent but didn't stand out to me unfortunately. I got the BBQ Grilled Cheese which came with a generous amount of pulled pork. The BBQ flavors were solid but there wasn't much cheese for a grilled cheese sandwich. On the menu it said there was supposed to be gouda, gruyere, and fontina but I felt like it was 90% meat. The onion fries were alright - the batter was a little too thick for me. Sweet potato fries were well seasoned but the potatoes were a little to dry. The butter beer I had was pretty decent; couldn't taste the alcohol but had nice butterscotch and whipped cream flavors. I do applause them for more extra menu items like the GIANT pretzel and ones that are injected with cheese. The grilled cheese just felt short of my expectations but I also heard good things about their burgers. Good amount of indoor seating but some tables are kinda awkwardly designed (ie 3 on one bench and 1 on the edge). Servers were nice and checked in on us quite often. read more

I'm a sucker for contemporary foods so I enjoyed eating at Prohibition Kitchen. I've only been about 3 times, but the menu has changed a little each time, allowing me to try new things. I like how unique some of the foods are and they taste good, but not mind-blowing by any means (except for the brussel sprouts!!). I think it is a bit pricey for what you are getting and adds up quickly. The restaurant is on the smaller side with bar seating and booths. The doors/windows at the front are opened in the warmer weather, which creates a nice ambiance. The decor is also very contemporary and fun with the LED lights at the bar. read more

The place itself-- Tiny little spot, can't have more than 15 tables inside, but amazing food. Def recommend going with a friend or two or a date, but not great for large groups. Small bar, prob 8-10 chairs and they have happy hour! Now the food-- 10/10 for the food. My friend and I did not have 1 thing that we did not LOVE. Mac and cheese egg rolls and Kung Pao cauliflower were amazing! App was good for 1 though, so order 1 app per person. I got the Hawaii 50'd salad. I had it with chicken and it was awesome. I do Barry's 3 times a week for a reason. Margs and pretzels that's the reason. The marg here is ok, it comes with a straw which bc I'm pro turtle I respect. Prohibition is your typical hole in a wall bar and restaurant that serves reallllly good food and their drinks are to die for. I used to work in Port Jeff and on my days off I would usually stop by and get myself their garlic parm wings and Kobayashi Dog! Both just truly delicious and decadent. The crunch from the savory wings to the hot freshly prepared weenie dog haha, they're both the perfect pair if you're thinking about spending some time at the restaurant and want to kick back while you're sipping on their margaritas and mixed drinks. Always a great sign when it seems like people love where they work - and there recs were spot on ! Day one we had the pulled pork grilled cheese and the fat bird sandwich - both to die for good - fries were excellent! Day 2 we had mozzarella sticks (bc we were hungry- don't judge lol) amd split a sticky bird sandwich (even more amazing) with sweet potato fries that came with maple syrup! Awesome ! Cocktails seem to be on the higher side. 4. Food & Drink Old Fashioned on the Special Cocktail List 5/5 - freshly made and mixed BBQ Grilled Cheese 5/5 - Good amount of meat flavored nicely. Bread was nice and crispy. Does not come with sides, only a pickle. I didn't feel I needed fries and was full off the sandwich. Order Boom Boom Sauce if you like spice. Street Corn Shrimp Po Boy 3/5 - Plain, lacking flavor, nothing special. I wouldn't recommend going with this dish. There needs to be more toppings, maybe some sort of slaw to make it worth it. Sesame Ribs 5/5 - Meat was very tender. Flavor was great, not overpowering. Comes over a bed of lettuce - would have been nice to have something different like mashed potatoes, slaw or crispy straws. I would recreate this at home it was that good. Beast Burger 5/5 - Again does not come with sides but filling enough for dinner. The Special Slaw makes the flavors all come together. They were able to seat out party of 6 in the front comfortably so we even had some space amongst ourselves on a Sunday afternoon. Service: very good. Friendly waitresses. Food: very good! Decent experience at this restaurant last night. They advertised a Roaring 20's party for yesterday while Port Jefferson was doing a bar crawl. Come in costume and for $15 you got a glass of champagne and hors d'oeuvres. My group of 6 were the only ones dressed up, but it was fine as we had our own fun. The waitress brought over the hors d'oeuvres for us which was nice, and filled it up upon request. I didn't eat it, but my party loved everything. As far as the bar, they didn't have much to drink. Not a lot of variety of wines and no Malibu bay breeze, although they did offer me samples of what they had which was nice. It was getting a little crowded and we were constantly notified that we may have to move to the bar unless we ordered food. Because of that (and since what everyone ate was great), we ordered two appetizers. I guess that was still not enough food for us to stay along with the $15 tickets we bought because we were still getting pushed away. One waiter even came up to us and asked if we were finished (with our food clearly still on the table) and our check was bought to us without us asking for it.
