We are very new to the RV World (this was only our second trip!) and we are so happy we got to spend New Year's at Dark Sky RV! Rick and his team have assembled a remarkable property from which other property owners should take notes. The amenities, aesthetic, and pure integration with nature cannot be overstated. If you are used to the parking lot style RV Parks, staying here will be a welcomed surprise! While making Dark Sky RV our home for the week, my wife and I took day trips to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. All are a very reasonable distance away from Dark Sky and it was so nice to know that we had a very serene spot waiting for us when we were done exploring for the day. Extremely welcoming and helpful staff close to the very charming town of Kanab and within easy driving distance to several beautiful national and state park sites. We are already making plans for a return visit to this area and especially this rv park for a longer stay. Three nights was not enough time! Awesome spot. WiFi. Hang out on the terrace. Luxurious bathroom with a magical outdoor shower. Views of the red rocks. Hikes close by. Grand Canyon, Zion, grand staircase, lake Powell all nearby. Didn't want to leave! Camped with my tent for three days. Check the weather though! Don't want to camp in a tent when it's windy in the desert. One of our favorite camp spots along our cross country trip! Perfect location near Kanab which had great laid back vibe and delicious food and just a short distance from tons of outdoor activities and national parks in southern UT/ Northern AZ. The campground is absolutely beautiful and impeccably maintained!! Amazing amenities...best bathrooms/showers, great laundry facilities (which we REALLY needed by then!), small store with coffee, snacks and fresh eggs as well as beautiful common areas to enjoy the views. They have an outdoor kitchen with a gas grill, pizza oven, a huge farm table and comfy seating areas with fire tables and fire pit. The design elements were incredible!! Everywhere we looked were such beautiful well thought out details. Ken, our camp host was awesome! Super helpful and a wealth of information!! I really enjoyed our chats :) We also had the good fortune to meet Rick, one of the owners who was an absolute sweetheart! He was super friendly and open and shared some love for our little VW campervan. He also gave us some great tips/info about nearby parks and other local activities, and shared a little about his and the Dark Sky story. He's done an amazing job with the property and his wife and daughter are responsible for the amazing design and decor. I love this place! I don't care that it cost more it is worth every penny. It is off the highway so the traffic noise is minimal and there is a lot of space between campsites. The views are awesome and the hosts are great. There is nothing we don't like like about this place and I didn't even mention how clean the place is or the heated floors in the bathroom. We have stayed here four times and it has always been great! read more

Nice common area with snacks (for a fee) and a couple of gas fire-pits and grill. Also a game and sandpit/zipline area for kids. Dog friendly with a small dog park. Plus, they allowed our high energy dog to be off leash in designated areas away from the campsites. Two washers and dryers available for a fee ($2 wash, $2 dry). The bathrooms are very nice, but there is no curtain on the shower, and the blind on the door leading to the outdoor shower did not close. The wooden fence surrounding the outdoor shower is not tall enough and has cracks that you can see through. This campground is more ideal for big RVs than tents. It can get VERY windy. We paid for, but did not end up using the portable gas fire pit they supplied for a fee because of the severe wind (no "real" camp fires allowed). Occasionally there is a slight sewage smell from the leach field on the central-south side of the park, which is kind of close to some of the RV sites. The views are wide open with sage brush and distant red cliffs. We were in a non-RV spot in a camper van on the west end of the park. There was a deep wash within approximately 12 feet of our site with a very high drop off and no fence, so I would not suggest bringing little ones to this end of the campground. We had a bad experience with another guest that harassed us for taking an established trail past her RV to get to the restroom. They have wifi, but we couldn't pick up a good enough signal unless we went to the common area. Their service is friendly at first, but they later seemed too busy and unapproachable so we didn't feel comfortable asking them to help concerning the guest that harassed us. Nice sunsets, and close to town, but it was uncomfortable enough that we ended up finding another campground. Make sure you check out Dark Sky's refund policy. If you are the flexible type like we are, Dark Sky probably isn't a good fit, and they are pricy enough that no refund can mean you are out quite a bit of money. read more

We had the time of our lives staying at Dark Sky! Where to begin... private bathroom/shower areas with heated floors were beyond luxurious. Private washer & dryer area made laundry super easy! Facilities were extremely clean, beautiful, and well-taken care of. There are separate small buildings for bathrooms (central) and snacks/hot coffee/filtered water/tourism info that provided us with everything we could've needed. My now-fiancee and I bonded with Rick, one of the owners, who was genuinely thrilled to see everyone having a great time! AJ, one of our hosts, provided info via text throughout our stay which was super helpful! We could've stayed the whole week at Dark Sky and plan to sometime in the near future. It's a MUST for your Utah RV/van adventure! read more

Let me start off by saying if you think you are picky, high maintenance, and in much need of a clean, fresh, spacious rv park, you haven't met me. We have thus far only traveled two summers but for one month at a time, and so have visited many of rv parks. I have bounced back between using Good Sam ratings and Yelp and have decided that I actually believe neither as every time we head to any park I am utterly unamused. Enter Dark Sky. Finally. I wish I could put into words how insanely amazing this place is and do it justice but I'm sure I will fall short. First off, the directions of how to find your spot are my favorite, who wants to waste time checking in? Then as soon as you find your spot which is perfectly separated from any other rv you are guaranteed to get out and find a breathtaking view. The showers are the likes of staying at a desert resort, I may go just to use the outdoor shower again. The sitting area/terrace was a dream, twinkle lights that shine at night from a dangling bush.. and my kids loved, LOVED the dig pit. Did I mention the owners are quite possibly the nicest humans you will ever meet? They have left no detail out. I could go on and on and on.. but I suppose I already have. Go! I'd like to keep this place a secret but that would be too unfair to the world! read more

Dark Sky RV Campground - Spot 11.. does it get any better? - RV Parks Near Me - Kanab, Utah

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this IS the best RV campground we have been to. We started as full-time RVers in July and have been to more then 30 parks in 9 states in that time. None come close to how awesome Dark Sky is! The bathhouses are amazing, but the cherry on top of this desert sundae are the owners / hosts. These folks don't know how to fail at hospitality. They are the most friendly bunch of people ever. Upon arrival, they motor over to your rig in a golf cart to greet you and fill you in on amenities, policies, etc. If they see you outside, they often stop just to chat and see if there is anything they can do to make your stay more enjoyable. We've never had hosts stop by our rig for any reason let alone to just 'see how we are doing'. The area is beautiful, the spaces are spacious, the bathhouses are, well, epic! We particularly love the Venmo 'honor system' for amenities. Doing a load of laundry? Had a coffee, or ice cream from the freezer? Simply jet them $$$ over Venmo or PayPal. No need for quarters! Love love love this place!! read more

Absolutely love this campground and can't wait to go back. Plenty of space between sites all with beautiful views. These guys go the extra mile and provide you with a gas fire pit to enjoy without the hassle of building a wood fire or pulling out your own fire pit. The social area is just so well designed and the little snack shack well supplied with ice cream, treats, coffee etc all for a recommended donation. Then after a long drive and not so luxurious bathroom experiences, a visit to their bathroom suites is just delightful, with an indoor / outdoor shower, heated floors, I didn't want to leave the bathroom. The owners are all so friendly and the location is close to all things to see in the area. Next time we will stay for two weeks. read more

Would be 5 stars if they had fire pits and allowed wood burning fires. Camping is not the same without it. This is an expensive campground and then they charge an additional $6 per day to rent a propane tank for this small gas fire thing which is silly because it hardly generates any heat and i don't like being nickel and dimed for things. Their excuse about too much brush and wind to allow safe fire pits makes no sense. All the campgrounds we have stayed at have the same brush and right now there is no wind and low fire danger. Besides that, its a well run place with the best bathroom shower. Also, they dont have any benches to go with the table , so good thing we brought our benches so we can sit and eat outside although its kind of too cold to eat outside with no fire. read more

We met Jeff & Britt (two of the owners of Dark Sky) several years ago when Dark Sky was still just a dream. We kept in touch via Facebook and I had the pleasure of watching that dream turn into reality. I finally got to experience that reality this weekend and it was truly amazing! They were more than welcoming. The small details make all the difference from the amazing bathrooms (heated floors!!!), to the cute coffee bar, to the fun dig area for the kids and last but not least the great enclosed dog area. The all pull-through spots were spacious with spectacular view all around. You felt like you were in the middle of no where (in a good way) even though you are about 2 miles outside downtown. There's great hiking near and within a decent drive. World-famous Buckskin Gulch is less than an hour away. They have plenty of great touristy to-do flyers in the check-in room. I can't wait to go back. I feel like we only explored 2% of what Kanab has to offer. We will definitely stay at Dark Sky again on our next adventure. read more

This campground is awesome! We purposely stayed here to view the stars and love how the campground is focused on the "dark sky". Our kids saw the Milky Way in person for the first time. We loved the amenities at the campground. Our family hung out at the activity center playing cornhole. The private bath suites were extremely clean. The open-air laundry was awesome. The owners were welcoming and provided great tips on the area. We even rented the Roxor for some off-roading. Would recommend this campground to anyone passing through the area. read more

This is what campgrounds all should be like. The owners went out of their way to ensure every campsite is as good as the next, with so many little details that make you feel special while there; i.e. freely provided propane fire-pits and shaded picnic tables at every site, spa like bathroom facilities offering private indoor and outdoor showers. All campsites are pull throughs with ample space in-between each site (~75ft(?). You can rent, right there onsite, a Jeep or e-bikes, lots of fun and there's propane fill up available onsite as well. This is more of an adult friendly campsite, very quiet, extremely dark at night (one of it's beauties) with awesome views of the Milky Way and surrounding landscape. The owners are very hands-on and live onsite ensuring all campers are enjoying their time while respecting each others enjoyment as well. Kanab is an excellent staging area for all there is to do, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, miles and miles of ATV trails all within an hour of this campsite, not to mention town just 4 miles away. Internet connection while we were there was excellent as well. This campsite gives you the feeling of boondocking with mesmerizing views, but with many of the amenities found at resort type campsites. In a nutshell, we'll definitely be back! read more

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. It was by far the best camping experience I've ever had. It felt like the ritz-carlton of camping. The owners have put so much thought into curating this space and their attention to detail is incredible. Our first night there was a social hour with complimentary drinks and snacks and it was an amazing opportunity to get to know the owners and other campers, and learn about all there is to do in the area. The bathhouse and outdoor shower were also amazing. I loved ending a day of hiking with a hot shower outside under the stars. I will definitely be back! read more

We were all excited to try a new campground we saw in Kanab and then we found this place. We LOVE this place! Each site is spaced away from the other and you get a covered table. There is a shared cooking area if you want but the absolute best is the heated floors in the bathroom!!! This is our new place to stay in Kanab Utah. Everything is low key. They provide an early check in so you can go directly to your site when you arrive. Can't wait to stay when the weather is warm so we can truly enjoy the dark skies! read more

As you drive up to Dark Sky RV Campground you may wonder if you made a mistake but it won't be a mistake Dark Sky is perfect for RVs. There is ample space between RVs. The site is well maintained and efficient. There is no light pollution which means there are more stars in the sky than possibly you have ever scene in your life. It is spectacular and truly what desert camping is all about yet has all the amenities that make it a terrific place to stay. Owners are on site for easy check in and come to your site if you need anything. We highly recommend Dark Sky anytime you are on the area! read more

We just spent 4 days at Dark Sky and loved it! It was easy to book and the hosts were gracious. We are not seasoned RV'ers and rented an RV for a 2 week road trip. We do not like typical RV parks where RV's are on top of each other. Dark Sky is spread out, providing privacy for each slot. There is a cute and scenic Terrace Area for socializing, working, etc. WiFi is available. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers for laundry and amazing bathrooms with heated floors to boot! Loved our stay here! They even let us stay one extra night at their "backup" parking spot since we had to change plans last minute due to weather. Thanks Rick and family! read more

This RV campground was awesome. It is in a perfect location to get to Bryce, Zion, Antelope Canyon, etc. We loved the ease of communicating and checking in by email. When we got to our site, one of the owners immediately met us and welcomed us in. This campsite is rustic but full of warm touches. At each site there is a shade structure, a portable propane fire pit, a small table and a large table. The bathrooms are amazing. Who has heated floors in a rv park bathroom?? Dark Sky!! There also is a darling common area with an indoor area where you can get beverages and snacks and outdoor area with ample seating and more fire pits. There is also a darling play area for kids and bikes and Roxor 4x4 utility vehicles you can rent. As if all these amenities weren't enough, every Thursday night they have a social gathering where they provide happy hour with wine, beer and a light meal with dessert! I know, crazy cool, right?! 5/5 for this place and I can't wait to come back. read more
