I have taken my big dogs ... a Belgian Malois, a Siberian Husky and my current Husky here over decades. All of my dogs were/are given great care and grooming . My dogs actually enjoyed going there ( the biggest tip off) and the grooming lasts for a long time. The staff are kind professional and caring. They schedule your dog and actually work on them in a reasonable amount of time so your dog is not in a crate for hours and hours like some other groomers do ---?! I highly recommended. This place is terrible. Literally did everything I didn't want. I brought in my Miniature Schnauzer and asked to SPECIFICALLY NOT to cut his beard, extremely light trim. I've come to this groomer several times and love them. The last time I came I was shaking my ears and they called to check on me and to make sure I was happy the next day. :) They always remember my name and never once have cut my whiskers. I called that morning, they squeezed her in for a wash with a nail trim, they called about 40 minutes later for pick up. She's seemed pretty happy and they said she did well. Staff is very nice and my pup is always clean. They've always have been able to squeeze her in even on late notice.

Unfortunately, I must advise others to avoid this business at all costs. I brought my German Shepherd here for a standard wash and nail trim. Within 48 hours, he exhibited alarming symptoms: pain, refusal to eat, and unusual behavior like snarling and shaking when approached. An emergency vet visit revealed he had contracted "post-grooming Furunculosis," a serious bacterial infection often linked to inadequate grooming sanitation (usually, when shampoo is diluted with water and then stored improperly). My dog is luckily much better now, but his body is now covered in scabs, which will take several weeks to heal. This experience has been both traumatic and costly. Avoid at all costs. read more

On top of that, they have a very keen observation. The men who assisted me could tell right away that my dog has skin allergies and so recommended a allergy free shampoo. Its sad that after going to Darla's Dog Wash for over 15 years I finally had to walk away from this once great place. The manager/owner or whoever the lady is that works at the front has ZERO customer service skills. The last 3 times I bring in my dogs all they do is make a big thing about my dog being knotted and they make a point to make you feel bad. Well after 15 years today I just ask them if they wanted my business or not and they handed me the leash with my dog on the other end and told me NO. The one groomer who runs the place sometime used to be nice but this lady who either owns it or manages it is awful and it has been passed on to the rest of the crew. We pay a preminum here to get our dogs groomed and I refuse to pay for someone to ridicule me each time I go in so today after 15 years this is the end of my relationship with this unprofessional business. After reading some of the one star ratings I don't feel so bad now but after giving them 3 more chances they did the same time i broght my dog in and acted unprofessional Yes my dog was matted but that is what I paid them for. Sorry Darla's but your days are numbered and after 15 years of your unprofessional customer service will put you out of business. These folks did me a great favor this weekend by squeezing in my dog at the very last minute. My pup got sprayed by a skunk and the scent was wretched. Darla's Dog Wash team not only squeezed him but helped really, really reduce the odor and cleaned him all up as well. Took my dog here because it was convenient but they keep changing their rates and charging more than what was quoted (that's why they don't have their pricing for grooming clearly stated online). The first admin told me $45 for the haircut and then Javier quoted $60. When I took my dog there, they charged me $70, which was way more than what was quoted. If you cherish your pup as much as we do, and I'm certain you do, let our very recent experience serve as a cautionary tale to avoid this place like the PLAGUE. A BRIEF NOTE: I am not a troll whatsoever as a general principle but this was egregious enough, on so many levels, during such a trying time, that I felt compelled to weigh in. The cut: terrible, chop-shop, and sloppy. Irregular, careless and lacking any semblance of tenderness or care. I'm convinced a weed-whacker was taken to him. Then there's the multiple cuts and rashes that were previously not there which is hardly a coincidence. Covid: an employee, closely engaged with multiple dogs and people blatantly disregarding best standards for safety. Read: no mask. Not even in the general vicinity. Service: disrespectful, rude, and dismissive. Having called to gently and kindly weigh in on our experience, wanting to avoid conflict or drama frankly while in plain terms expressing our concerns, we were met with sarcasm and arrogance. The direct quote from the staff was that we had a "great story" and that we were essentially exaggerating our circumstances and the effects we witnessed. Pathetic. Our pup: he's simply been different since being there in a marked way and we're worried. Four days later still. Skittish, scared, and hiding. Simply not himself which, despite being a highly social guy whose been fortunate enough to frequent multiple such businesses has never even remotely exhibited any such behaviors. Borderline traumatized. Aside from the obtuse rudeness, cuts on him, trauma, and miserable work we can't prove anything beyond that but I will say this: taking your precious friend here to save $30 versus taking your money to a reputable place that gives a damn simply isn't worth it and we're feeling it hard. It makes me sad to review DARLAS with one star. But it's what the GROOMERS deserve not the owner. I have been going to DARLAS for about 5 Yrs. I have usually had good grooming and service my dogs were never cut or injured. However my sweet as pie senior dog CANDIE -who was partly handicapped in that as a senior she couldn't walk without cart support - they REFUSED TO GROOM. They HAD groomed her before!!! But when I said she NOW had declined and needed to be groomed seated - the manager said "sorry can't". "Why?" I asked in shock --First it was : "we are short staffed" I said I would come in ANY day that was lighter. "NO sorry we can't" then it was "she might DIE on the table". I was like "WHAT are you talking about - she has a mobility problem not DYING "! Then it was "we can't afford to have two groomers on one dog" I said "I understand you need to make profits but she is rt client and she desperately needs to be SHAVED DOWN /lion cut" as I was having to hand bath her (80 pounds) as she was no longer squat peeing and kept slipping into her urine. I was able to hold her up by the tummy and bath her with ONE hand and I am not a professional groomer!! But EVEN SO-- I told the manager that I would PAY MORE -double - whatever it takes --I was just DESPERATE for her to get shaved down as it was taking so long for her thick fur to dry at home. The manager -I heard her voice turn away to speak to the head groomer - she said (to him) "she is crying (yes I was sobbing devastated in rejection as long time client and whose senior dog ESPECIALLY needed to be shaved to keep her skin healthy --) but the manager gave it one more try and I HEARD the groomer say (irritated) "NO we can't do it" WOW I totally respect groomers and Super skills but I was not asking for someone to do anything they were not skilled to do!! It was so appalling. I told the owner I would never return and I would post what happened. My dog CANDIE lived another 4 months. I ended up hand cutting her hair with baby scissors as best I could. She had to be put to sleep when she lost ability to use her FRONT legs. But on the day of my request to groom her she could use her front legs she just could not STAND without her cart. DISCRIMINATING against a sweet old dog for ONE lion cut --who they had done at least 3 times before on same dog was INEXCUSABLY CRUEL. Again I don't blame the owner she TRIED but her groomers were REJECTING Candie. She never caused them any problem and I was a 25 percent TIPPER! I will never forget that phone call begging for grooming for Candie. Darla's groomers have lost their way. If they don't want to groom senior dogs with mobility issues they need to PROCLAIM z that is their policy and not flip on a client out of the blue. I hope the head groomer who was always smiling at me (guess was a fake smile) sees this review. Shame on him and any other groomer who has no "time" for a senior dog. read more

Love, love, love Darla's Dog Wash! I used to take my pup here on and off over the years because it's not close to home, but we've become regulars this past year. They do an excellent job and seem to enjoy what they do. I did cheat 2x this year by going to a place much closer to home. Big mistake! It made me appreciate even more of how much of a great job the staff at Darla's does with my Pomeranian mix. There was a short period when the vet required my pup get bathed with a special shampoo BEFORE getting a regular bath. Darla's went with the flow and did what needed to be done. They're mindful of my little guy's tricky hips, and he always trots out happily with his fur shiny and bouncy. My cat hates it there. But, Darla's does a great job with her, too. read more
