It was really good. I could see why they are so busy but just kind not for me. I had a shrimp po'boy all of it was fresh and good but it came with like 4-5 slices of different cheese??? I could of got it without cheese but I'm more of a purist, you know eat it how it is served kind of thing. Coming from Texas to watch my daughters quidditch game, we decided to try local. This was highly reviewed. Got to parking lot and it was full on a Saturday lunch hour. Got seated quickly and serviced was fine. The menu is basic, so I got the large Darrell's poboy, which was a combination of meat. Wife had small beef sandwich. Overall, it met the expectation of a sandwich. But I do feel they may have added too much sauce as the bottom part of bread was soggy along with dripping sauce all over my platter. There are no equals! Darrell's Po Boys hold out on their own! This place is always crowded at lunchtime with good reason: the sandwiches are unique and delicious. From the bread to the jalapeno mayonnaise​, Darrell's serves a wonderful Po Boy that no one can reproduce. Sandwiches come in two sizes, sides are pretty much limited to chips. There is a full bar that includes local and regional microbrews; otherwise, they serve Coca Cola products. Service is consistent and normally very good. They may be slow during busy times. Over the past year it seems that Darrell's is trying to reformat itself from a bar to a sports bar and grill. This is evident with an introduction to a kids menu, now families present, and it seems they have discontinued the beer pong tournaments. During the last two visits I have noticed the shrimp sizes have shrunk. It could be due to a poorer catch this year but am not sure. read more

This is a ridiculous sandwich. I had no idea you could have butter, cheese, mayo, and gravy all slathered in one food item. If you're coming west from TX probably your first taste of Louisiana food culture. The Darrell's special combines butter cheese mayo and gravy with 3 different deli meats. I thought it was good (how could it not be I mean) but it was more like a very good ham and cheese I guess? I would not order this again. I was definitely full for the rest of the day The most amazing items here I thought were the Cheese Bread which comes with Beef Gravy for dipping. This was insanely good. I stopped by for lunch last week while driving east taking the I 210 bypass to get there. It was only a 5 minute detour from I 10 and is on the I 210 frontage road so access was easy. The restaurant has its own parking lot. Walking in, I noticed how spacious the restaurant is that also includes a large bar to sit at. The hostess seated me at a table. The menu is not broad in scope and it is evident that you come here for their poboys. I like poboys so that's fine with me. Talking to my waitress, she recommended the Darrell's special which is a ham, turkey and roast beef poboy as their most popular. I usually like shrimp or other seafood poboys but she told me that their seafood is not fried and grilled instead. Besides I thought I would try their special. I asked for a 12" for $10.45 since all they had for sides were chips and I didn't want them. The sandwich came out in about 10 minutes. Their bread was good and it was a lot of food. Honestly with the 3 meats and cheese and some gravy I thought the sandwich was a 3. It was ok but not as good as other poboys that I have had that were roast beef only. I also thought they put more cheese slices than I like. Others may love this sandwich but if I came back, I would go with the sautéed shrimp poboy. Currently this restaurant is rated at 4.5 stars. While my meal was acceptable, I cannot go anywhere near that score with mine. read more

Stopped here on our way to New Orleans because I heard it was the best po boys. Well if that's the best I don't want the worst. Service was slow, other table got served before us and we were there first. Secondly wanted fried shrimp or oyster po boy and the waitress said no fryer. In Louisiana and no fryer!!! Got the roast beef po boy and it was not at all good. Saw some people had gravy in theirs but ours if it had any was none existed. Meat had no flavor and asked for fully dressed but they didn't do tomatoes just lettuce Mayo and mustered and cheese. Never heard of mustard on roast beef po boy and I have eaten plenty of po boys. Plus cheese??!! Not ever stopping there again and don't recommend if you're wanting a po boy. read more

I've heard from locals to tryout Darrells and it's taken me quite a few visits before I stopped by... now I don't think I could visit Lake Charles and not go back! This restaurant is known for their po-boys and now I see why. We split the Darrell's special and the shrimp po-boy. If I had to choose which was better, I'd go with the Darrell's special because between the melty cheese, multiple meats, and gravy you just can't go wrong. It's delicious. The shrimp is also good and has a different Cajun flavor. We'll be back! read more

Great Sandwich Shop! The placed was packed so I ordered to go. To go was fast and efficient called about 25min ahead of time ,drove through, paid with no wait. I ordered the Darrell's special, Shrimp and Turkey sandwich all with Jalapeño mayo. The Turkey was the best of them all. The bread on the sandwich was toasted to perfection with a slight crunch and lightly buttered. I recommend this sandwhich shop to anyone passing through Lake Charles Louisiana or staying in the city a few days. read more

Awesome jumping bar, with bar food done right. Great music, chill staff, great sandwiches on homemade buns, gravy and they got all kinds of meats. Try the jalapeño mayo. I got the roast beef and gravy on white roll, the works. My mister got the BBQ beef with the works... mustard jalapeño mayo lettuce etc. Of course we got a bag of chips and a coke. ok so the food as always was awesome, Darrell's special cant be beat....sadly the kids working there left a lot to be desired! Blaring crappy rap music playing, and some employee's not wearing mask, one young girl was too busy trying to vape while working. It was just sad to see how the place has gone down since the owner passed. I have been inside this place many many times when I lived here 4 years ago. It was always clean and tidy. The men's restroom had spit in the corner of the stall and it was dried! meaning it had been there a few days or more! Oh and my waitress over charged me....my bill was 27.90 and she decided to charge me 32$ I did not feel the need to leave a tip! Next time I will get it to go if there is a next time. read more

If I heard two different people in my group talk about the same poboy, I have to try it out. It's a few exits away from the golden nugget/lauberge and right off of the freeway. Darrell's is pretty big but quite packed for it being mid afternoon. Three of us shared a large (12') Darrell's special and large surf and turf. Both with everything on it and jalapeño mayo. They were kind enough to cut the poboy three ways so we can each have a little of both. The pickle helps cut the richness of it and it can get pretty filling. Of the two, I favored the surf and turf but if you're more of a meat person go for the Darrell's special. These can definitely get messy so load up on napkins and have at it. read more
