Food has always been good & when I catch Darrow he's always made everyone feel at home when coming in to get a meal

I have been craving a po' boy so I had to stop in today. The staff are warm, friendly and accommodating. At about 1:30p there was a good number of people in the restaurant but not too crowded. I loved the decor and art. I ordered the shrimp po' boy, side of jambalaya, fries, cherry cola and beignets. I knew there would be a wait and did not mind it. The Shrimp po' boy has great flavor! I enjoyed the seasoning, batter and the roll was fresh. The jambalaya was also tasty. The fries were hard and seemed to be mixed with an old batch. I went through the box and took out the fresh ones. Cherry Cola was on the flat side. Lastly, beignets were delicious! Overall, strong 8/10! I'll mostly likely be back soon. read more

Food is great: gumbo/catfish/fries/cornbread/bread/red beans & rice Service: extremely personal and family like Ambiance: clean and inviting I went for the first time for lunch with a friend. I love catfish and that was my plan. The cook gave me a taste of the roux and then on a hot day, I wanted gumbo, yes it changed my taste buds! I took gumbo home to my husband and he actually said "the gumbo was good". His comments are usually "ok". So that means he will eat there again. LOL. Never got to try the food . . . Placed an online order, for a total of $107.76. However, my card was charged $129.31. Called to figure out how to get a refund on the difference. The woman I spoke to basically said "I don't know what to tell you, that's not what I'm seeing on my end." I asked if orders placed through their website were processed through "Fast Casual Eatery" and she said "No." Well, that's who processed the online order, which is obviously what they're using on their website. Tried to convince me my bank "added some sort of fee." She then puts a gentleman on the phone who tells me he's just cancelling the order, and I get hung up on. I'm now out of $129.31, with no food. I wouldn't trust this business. If you insist on patronizing them, pay with cash, and don't let them anywhere near your credit card. If you've purchased from them in the past with a credit card, be sure to check that the original total matches what you were charged. read more

From the time I waked into Darrow's I was greeted with warmth and hospitality from the owner himself. Later, I saw that Sam friendliness continued with interactions between other customers. I ordered a bowl of gumbo and a side of catfish. Both were excellent! The catfish was seasoned to perfection and had the right balance of meatiness from the fish with crispness from the batter. The File Gumbo was very interesting! I make Gumbo myself but had never made or had it with as much File as Darrow's uses and it was delicious! Well balanced flavors with the right amount of kick! We went to Darrows to celebrate my sister in law birthday. On 12/31/25 I heard of darrows, but never have eaten there none of us . We had a reserved table. First of all let me say this place was clean vibrant so warm and inviting. I have never been to an establishment That welcome you like family. Folks this is the best your going to get to southern hospitality. I was so impressed by the owner and the food. My family spent almost $200 on food while I was out there visiting. The gumbo was probably the only good thing I had and that was mid at best. The fried shrimp and fish lacked seasoning. The greens tasted like nothing. The potato salad was sweet. We ordered other food I didn't try. There was a guy who I assumed was a manager, maybe the owner, he was very nice and patient explaining the menu to my grandmother. However, the bartender, I forgot her name was rude. I was standing in front waiting to be serviced and she never acknowledged me until I said something. I asked her about the to-go hurricanes that they offer and could she show me what they looked like. She was having a hard time describing an adult Capri-sun I found out later. I pointed to a to-go cup and asked if they come in that and she responded with an attitude, "no that's a wine glass". I wasn't even pointing towards the wine glass so I was taken back like nah really. Furthermore, a to-go drink is over $20. I'll buy a bottle for that price. read more

The food was delicious. It took me back to when I lived in New Orleans for a hot second. I ordered the shrimp/oyster Po'Boy with jambalaya, and a peach cobbler to go. The service was awesome!! Mr. Norwood gave us the rundown of his family restaurant, explained how to order and reminded us that we are all kin when we walk into his restaurant!! Joshua was on the drinks and boy did he serve!! If you're looking for a solid fish fry, this is the place for you. As seem standard at some of these places, they serve tender style pieces. I hate it because the fish is great and it seems like you're getting maybe half a filet, butttt when I get a good, thick filet, I seem to complain about that too. Only one place has got it right for me, but the fish here is great and they complete it with the fries which taste fresh cut and seasoned to perfection. That's all I get here of the two times I've been. Sike, I also add the greens. The ambience is lovely as you can see from the pics. However, parking sucks. I usually park across the street in the shopping plaza. The staff is great and friendly. One of the owners was walking around talking to folks and being hospitable. I can't speak on the wait as I usually order online before arriving but this is one of the 3 places I go to for fish in the LA area. read more

Ok, it's way overdue. Hubby and I had found this place on Yelp. Located in the busiest area of Carson. We parked in the parking structure. Ambiance was very inviting as soon as we walked into the place. Line wasn't very long but it too awhile to get up to order at the register. The way it was set up and one person at the register their process a bit slow. We ordered our food and tried to find a table to sit at, small sitting area with tables back to back. Bit of a tight squeeze. Foods were made upon order so it took a little longer. Once we got our food the restaurant was pretty packed to the rim. We had to eat fast to make space for their other customers. I did enjoy food very flavorful. Hubby loved more than me. I would return but not around the lunch rush, way too packed. read more

I was so excited to try this place. The lady behind me in line told me what to order. The person who took my order could NOT have been nicer. I told him it was my first time and he said, "from now on, you're family". I thought that was lovely. I asked for two side servings of gator sweat and was given the option of bread or cornbread. When I got home, there was no gator sweat (so I still have no idea what it is), no cornbread, tasteless greens and a po' boy that was dry and very flavorless. I didn't taste the potato salad, I gave it away, and the fish was a huge disappointment. It lacked seasoning and it wasn't fillets. It was just tiny little strips. I'm give this place one more try, because I want to see if I ordered the wrong things. Also, that rice and bean thing was not yummy at all. They have ample parking behind the restaurant. I ordered the fried catfish and fried shrimp combo 5 pieces of fish and 4 shrimp with greens, Cajun fries, and corn bread. My catfish was good, not fried too hard. My shrimp cooked a little hard. I don't like cornmeal batter that made them a little too crunchy. The greens were pretty good it was okay. The corn bread was too hard. I asked if the Cajun fries were spicy. She said not much, but for me, who doesn't really eat spicy. They were a bit too spicy for me, and they were cold. The gender-neutral bathroom was okay and clean when I'm in Carson. We went to the Mardi Gras Festival in Long Beach and was super busy and someone recommended this place called Darrows. Let me tell you the owners came up to our table and gave us a run down of the foods. Very friendly and helpful workers and the food was so delicious. We ordered everything from catfish po boys to chicken and jambalaya, the list goes on and on. Had to try the beignets and peach cobbler. I deeply regret not being greedy and taking more than I could physically eat. My friend got a massive order of shrimp poboys for the Super Bowl and when I say this tastes *better* than any poboy I had on my last trip to Nola!!!! I ate two during the game, air fried the one I took home the next day and now I'm sad I have nothing to show for it but memories. I cannot WAIT to venture to Carson to try more of the menu. The catfish was not very tasty and the cornbread was flavorless and tasted like uncooked cornmeal and very crumbly not soft like a bread. Their tater sauce gator sweat just taste like mayo and is not worthy the extra cost. Their gumbo has good flavor but I got crab shells with no meat in them and shrimp tails but now shrimp meat that was a let down. I won't be back try la brea fish market for good fried catfish and shrimp. Their tartar sauce is worth the extra cost trust me . I will say the owner of this restaurant is very nice and I remember his restaurant in marina as kid but the food just doesn't taste the same unfortunately. I came here after a trip to San Pedro with my family. My husband and I wanted a poboy / seafood and stumbled ok Darrow's. The service was above and beyond. Darrow himself walked out to my car to meet my family. They really over extended themselves in the nicest way possible. The workers let my husband try some samples as well. He walked through the menu with us. only checked on drinks Service. The food was amazing! The beignets were definitely the star of the show best beignets I've ever had perfectly pillowy and the service was like visiting and aunt/uncles home for lunch. I am a huge fan of Shrimp and grits. When I heard they serve it on Saturday's and Sunday's I just knew I had to come here. Parking is free and plentiful which is a nice way to start a visit here. I had the chance to speak to Norwood before ordering and I had the opportunity to learn more about his restaurant and the history of it. The food came out fast and the staff is great and really wants to make sure you enjoy your meal. The shrimp and grits were great and well worth the drive here.
