I found this on the Michelin guide so callled on a Saturday evening for a walk in for 4 and the hostess made a quick reservation for us. This is located within walking distance to the main Georgetown street lined with shops, sweets, and food. We had SUCH an amazing time here. It was more of an upscale restaurant and the waitress and hosts were fun and engaging. This was our first time having Ethiopian food and it was delicious. Though we didn't expect it to -- we were all full by the end of our meal. I'd recommend any visitors to try this out! We got: - beef spare ribs - chicken fillay - chicken and beef sampler - shrimp tibs - chocolate temptation cake Also the chocolate temptation cake had a nice thin layer of crunch that was very satisfying.

Great quality and incredibly flavorful! Food: we got the chicken, lamb, and vegetarian options to share and they were absolutely incredible! My favorite was the chicken and the lamb was a close second. The flavors were incredible and even the bread that it is served with alone is amazing! Service: service is a bit slow to be honest, but very friendly Ambience: fun spot! We sat outside and the inside looks nice too Price: very reasonable for quality and quantity

cozy spot and delicious food! we were seated immediately on a saturday night and service was great. ordered the vegetarian sambusa and the vegetarian entree sampler to split, and both were awesome. the sambusa was really good and my favorites from the sampler were the split peas and the eggplant and carrot wat. the injera that came with everything was also really good!

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Das Ethiopian. Their special beef tips were amazing and also their fish. I do you recommend that you go on an empty stomach because the portion size are great the customer service is exceptional and the space is cozy and welcoming. I highly recommend this place!

We had a family dinner at Das Ethiopian, and it was delicious and so much fun. We had a reservation, and we were seated upstairs. It was quiet and spacious up there. Our waitress was super friendly! She helped us figure out how much food to order. The food is served family style and all the dishes are placed on a big platter that is lined with injera. You use the injera to scoop up the sauces and meats. You don't need utensils. Everything was so good. We devoured it. They have a dessert menu but it is mainly Italian style desserts. Our server said dessert is not a common thing in Ethiopian cuisine. We still enjoyed the chocolate pyramid mousse. Overall, we had a great time. The flavors and spices are rich. We were so stuffed from eating too much. I would definitely come back!

This may seem like an over exaggeration but words cannot express just how much I loved my experience dining at Das Ethiopian. I came with my mom because we love Ethiopian food and we heard only good things about this location. Five stars really isn't enough to give this restaurant in a rating because the experience was just that great. We got outdoor seating just outside which was perfect because the weather was beautiful. It wasn't too hot and it wasn't too cold. It was in the early evening so you could see everyone coming home from work and embracing the lull of relaxation, which only enhanced the ambiance of the beautifully designed restaurant. We got a meat and vegetable combo platter which was delicious. When the food came, the waitress explained what everything was and what was in it. Just hearing her describe the food made my mouth water. Our platter was delicious and had the perfect combination of flavors. I enjoyed every bite. We got two different types of Tibs, we enjoyed the egg, lentils, greens, and beets. Every flavor blended well with each other, the spices were perfectly cooked into each part of the dish, and the injera bread was delicious and worked nicely with everything. I loved speaking with the people who worked there about the restaurant and the food. Every moment from when we sat down to when we left was really nice.

We were in the mood of Ethiopian and happened upon DAS. Well located at the entrance to Georgetown this is a very authentic Ethiopian restaurant. We brought the baby so we needed less spicy and spicy for the parents. We picked the mixed chicken-beef combo and beef tibs. Injira was fresh and the portions just enough. Service was lovely. We will be back!

    Vegeterian Sambusa

This was the first time we had tried Ethiopian food and will say I was a great experience. We decided to order the Vegeterian Sambusa, as a starter, and 3 other main courses to share. I could say there are similarities to our Mexican food because their food is very flavorful, as they use different spices, and their version of what it looks like a rolled up "tortilla". They also served two different sauces on the side for us to use as needed. We also had the pleasant experience of having to share all the house specialties we selected. These were served on a big plate from which we all were grabbing the food with our rolled bread/ tortilla. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the noise level was for the most part low. We would live to go back to tryout more of their food, unfortunately we live in San Francisco and it would be a 5 hour flight to get there.

Georgetown often fails to live up to its hype: small sidewalks, no public transit, terrible traffic, and often just okay yet overpriced food. There are a few redeeming qualities, however: the waterfront, pretty historic houses, and, of course, Das! I ordered the vegetarian sampler and loved everything that came with it. It was so well seasoned and tasty, plus the injera was nice and fluffy. The staff were attentive and friendly and seemed to want to make sure we enjoyed the experience. It certainly makes the trek into inaccessible Georgetown worthwhile!

This is a good place, just that it's a little more expensive than other Ethiopian places in the city presumably cuz of the Georgetown real estate! But the food and service were good. My friend and I shared a shrimp appetizer and a vegetarian sampler. Everything was very tasty and good quality. Cute inside but tables are all packed close together, in case that bothers anyone.

Das Vegetarian Entree Sampler combined with the House Salad, Ethiopian Harvest Vegetable Specialty, Beef Alicha, and Lamb Tibs.

This is a beautiful high end little restaurant in Georgetown... old building, white tablecloth, and guess what kids, you get to eat with your hands! We had a reservation, so was seated right away. Full bar menu and not vegetarian (which is totally different from the Ethiopian restaurants we have at home). So we ordered the Das Combination Vegetarian Entree Sampler as our base, and added the House Salad, which was a nice combination of beets, potatoes & green beans, as well as the Beef Alicha and Lamb Tibs. Everything on the plate was delicious. I was starting to get worried that I was going to fill up on the injera, when our server reappeared with forks! (Only so we could enjoy the rest of the food!). Definitely a five star meal and experience.

It is a unique type of cuisine from Africa. Unlike most of the fine dining restaurants in the US, Ethiopian restaurant does not provide silver wares. And the food are mostly shared amount the table. We ordered the beef and chicken sampler, shrimp, and lamb. All very good! I love the food texture, flavor, and its unique serving style. The restaurant has a great street view when you seats by the window. The service is great!

I love Ethiopian food, and I'm always eager to check our restaurants on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list, so this is the perfect confluence of interests! I had a nice time at this restaurant and think it deserves its spot on the list: this Georgetown restaurant is upscale without being pretentious. The high Georgetown prices are not justified completely ($51 for the platter is outrageously high!) but the taste is very good. The service was very nice--the only issue was that it took almost five minutes to be seated because no one was at the host stand. This pattern remained true throughout lunch service; no one ever occupied that spot. I started with a house salad that I really enjoyed: bright, perfectly cooked vegetables, and very tasty injera underneath. The platter was good, just overpriced. I wished the chicken drumsticks had been a little meatier as well. This was a high quality meal! I still think Letena has the best Ethiopian in the city though

We prefer to go on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday when the crowds are thinner. But don't hesitate for a Friday or Saturday night if we feel like eating their great food. The fare and service is always top notch whether it's hopping or sparse. We almost always get the vegan deluxe. If we feel like some meat, we add another dish and they are all good. I also enjoy their Ethiopian beer, Habesha Cold Gold. It is light, crisp, and refreshing with a clean finish. It has a mild malt sweetness up front, very light bitterness, just enough to balance and is smooth and clean with no heavy aftertaste The Vegan Deluxe is a combination plate that includes everything from a wonderful salad with fresh jalapeños and tomatoes to a wonderful assortment of lentils spiced in different way, also cabbage & carrots, and greens. I always feel good after our meals because the food is so fresh and beautifully done. Our pocketbook is grateful, too. My wife and I can leave with a bill of about $30 including food, a beer and tip. Not many places in Bethesda you can do that. The staff always smile and are helpful whether providing standard service or troubleshooting a challenge. The ambience is not upscale, but it's clean, beautiful, and filled with good people, whether it's the customers who are always having a good time, or the manager, who makes the rounds to ensure everything is going well.

Namely custom service and the unfortunate late discovery of hair in my food. Arrived for a late lunch and the restaurant was sparsely populated. I noticed outdoor seating and wanted to enjoy the sun. No one was seated out there and I found a spot. A server came out @5 minutes later and advise me that I couldn't sit there. She mentioned seating was for larger parties despite being midweek and After most lunch rushes. I was moved to another table. The view was fine and I ordered my lunch. The platter I ordered had beef tibs, vegetables and njeri. As a connoisseur of Ethiopian food, I was accustomed to having lentils included in the meal. I soon found out that that was not the case, and also that utensils was not given unless requested. The couple that had finally joined me on the patio requested utensils. I opted to follow traditional style and used the njeri as my utensils. The food had good flavor and was enjoying despite the lack of lentils until I came across a piece of hair. I immediately lost my appetite and brought to the attention of the person at checkout, as it appeared, you had to bring your bill to the Bar area to check out. The person was unapologetic and swore that no one's hair was exposed. I feel that was the way of them saying that it was my hair, which was farther from the truth. I was not seeking a discount and gladly paid my bill while pointing out the obvious about the extra bonus in my meal. Sadly, I was recommended by the workers at the Marriott where I was staying. Its proximity to the hotel and adjacent Washington Convention Center made it a great choice for lunch, and was happy for the referral. They spoke highly of this restaurant, and that made the experience worse as I was anticipating the goodness. Hopefully receive better treatment when they dine there.

This was actually one of the very first Ethiopian restaurants I tried after relocating to DC, so yes... this review is *long* overdue. From the very beginning, what stood out to me was how they manage to balance fine dining energy with genuine warmth. You get the elevated presentation, the polished atmosphere--but still the friendliness and hospitality that make Ethiopian dining feel like home. I'm a loyal veggie combo person (it's who I am at this point), so I was especially excited to see that their combo options offer a wider variety of dishes than most places. It's truly a "little bit of everything" situation, which is perfect when you're indecisive--or when you're dining with a large group and want everyone to taste it all. More variety, more flavor, more happiness. The food? Rich, flavorful, beautifully prepared. The kind of meal where you slow down and savor every bite. I'm already planning to return with my partner because I recently saw on social media that they offer Ethiopian wine and even wine flight tastings. Ethiopian cuisine paired with Ethiopian wine? Say less. I love when restaurants create experiences, not just meals. And of course, we can't ignore the moment they had in August 2024 when they went viral after receiving stellar reviews from viral food critic **Keith Lee**. What stood out most wasn't just that he praised them--it was that he spoke highly of Dukem while being candid about not having the same level of service and food quality at other local spots he visited. That says something. Excellence stands out. Dukem delivers flavor, hospitality, and atmosphere in a way that feels intentional. Whether it's your first time trying Ethiopian food or your hundredth (like me), it feels special every time. If you love Ethiopian cuisine--or just love great food and great service--this place absolutely deserves a visit. And if you're like me, it won't be your last.

My sister and brother-in-law were visiting DC, and since my sister had never tried Ethiopian food before, my partner and I decided that CherCher would be the perfect introduction. Thankfully, we chose wisely. We had a reservation, although funny enough, no one actually asked us about it when we arrived. Fortunately, it didn't matter because the restaurant wasn't crowded, and we were seated immediately. Sometimes the universe just aligns in your favor. We kicked things off with a bottle of honey wine because if you're introducing someone to Ethiopian cuisine, you might as well commit to the full experience. For food, we ordered the Deluxe Veggie Platter, which included three types of lentils, chickpeas, collard greens, beets, cabbage, and the tomato and onion salad--which, in my opinion, deserves its own fan club. I also ordered an extra green salad because I know who I am and what I like. For the meat dishes, we went with the Gored Gored, the Assa Dullet (tilapia), and the Lamb Awaze Tibs. Every single dish was delicious. The flavors were rich, well-balanced, and exactly what you hope for when you're craving Ethiopian food. The Gored Gored was especially flavorful, and the Lamb Awaze Tibs had just the right amount of spice and tenderness. One thing I always appreciate about CherCher is how quickly the food comes out. There's nothing worse than introducing someone to a cuisine for the first time and then having to spend 90 minutes explaining what injera is while waiting for the food to arrive. The kitchen moved quickly without sacrificing quality. The service was also exceptional. Both women taking care of our table were warm, attentive, and genuinely kind throughout the meal. Great service can elevate a meal, and they absolutely did. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but it's cozy rather than cramped. They also have a covered outdoor patio, which I'm sure is lovely during the approximately four weeks a year when DC weather isn't actively trying to harm us. As for pricing, I found it to be very fair and comparable to other Ethiopian restaurants in the area. Considering the quality of the food, service, and portion sizes, I left feeling very satisfied. Would I return? Absolutely. In fact, CherCher remains firmly on my list of places I take out-of-town guests when I need DC to show off a little. As I always say: I'm not difficult to please. I just have standards.

Once we got there, there was only one of the party inside, and it had the usual delightful decor. We got to choose where we wanted to sit and we browse the menu. We were curious about whether the honey wine was on the sweeter or dryer side, and the lady taking care of us was kind enough to let us taste it before committing. We decided to share a bottle, and we decided to do a deluxe platter as well. That included six veggies and one protein of our choice. We decided on the lamb tibs. Everything came out, and it was all fantastic. I can count the times that I have had Ethiopian lamb, and this definitely did not disappoint. I missed having beats, but I did really love the lentils. I went with the Abuare lamb tips, which were a bit spicy with the jalapeno, but packed full of flavour. It came as a set meal, but only with daal, which I was sad about at first but it was more than enough food to fill me up. The injera was plentiful and the lamb was tender and perfectly seasoned. Service was uncharacteristically good, but that might just be because it was off hours, but regardless, I was appreciative.
