Without clearly disclosing any additional cost, the stylist added a $41 "gloss" treatment. Total cost: $96. When we were at the register and saw that her bill had almost doubled, I asked what the extra charge was. The cashier said "haircut and gloss." I turned to my mom and asked, "Did you get a gloss?" (I didn't even know what that was.) She seemed unsure so the cashier went back and asked the stylist and confirmed the charge. The cashier offered no apology, no explanation, and no option to remove the charge. I spoke to my mom later and she told me that the stylist had asked, "Do you want your hair to look shiny?" and she answered yes, having no idea she was agreeing to a $41 add-on. Had she understood it cost extra, she would have declined. My mom has very short, fine senior hair that she washes every day. A $41 gloss is completely unnecessary and the way it was presented to a 93-year-old woman feels predatory. This is the second local salon that has done virtually the same thing to her (previous one turned a $25 cut into $50 with similar undisclosed add-ons). The haircut itself was fine, but targeting elderly clients with confusing, expensive extras they neither need nor fully consent to is unacceptable. They have permanently lost both of our business. Seniors and caregivers: ALWAYS ask for the total price upfront and specifically say "no extras or products." I'd hate for another elderly person to be taken advantage of the way my mom was.

They were also incredibly flexible when our scheduling got a little chaotic. Not once did they make us feel stressed- they simply adapted and kept everything moving with grace. As for my hair, I asked for a teased, bohemian braid, and my stylist not only nailed the vision but personally threaded tiny flowers throughout. I was not prepared for how magical it would make me feel. That level of thoughtfulness and artistry is rare, and I will never forget seeing it for the first time in the mirror. If you are looking for a team that will make you look stunning AND make the experience genuinely fun, look no further! Highly, highly recommend.

What does this have to do with Mary's Fabulashes? Well...Mary's lashes STAYED ON the whole time!!!!! I had a great vacation and got some great pics. Whether doing the above or getting dressed up for dinner - I didn't need to mess with that pesky makeup stuff. Now that is a cool vacation. :) RE: OILS: Whole foods sells a small container of jojoba oil. It was cheap, I picked it up. I rub it on lashes for maintenance. The advantage also being that it doubles as eye moisturizer as well. (Serious advantage in that even given the fact I should have some sort of beauty routine I still use soap and water on my face. But I digress...) Re: NATURAL BLONDES: Mary ALSO is the the ONLY person I know who can match eyebrows to my naturally light blond hair. Which, given their super light /nonexistent natural state is pretty impressive. She is part aesthetician and part artist. Re: DRIVING UP NORTH Yes, she's worth it. I live right downtown, and it's a 15 minute drive straight up 1-35 if there isn't any traffic. I can spend that much time getting across downtown sometimes.

She has cut and dyed my hair 3 times. Each time she gave me a fun new style and dye. I love my hair every time she has cut it. It is not so outlandish that I stick out, and I no longer look like a hippie straight out of the 60's. All 3 dye jobs used 2 tones of color that was mixed well and complimented my skin tone and style. The cuts she chose do not require much from me each day, which again is always a requirement when cutting my hair. She has also cut my son and daughter's hair and they look great as well. The very best part is the scalp massage that Capri does. I HIGHLY recommend Capri as a stylist.

I had never had my hair or makeup done professionally, but she quickly put me at ease during our trial. I let my bridesmaids do whatever they wanted with their hair/makeup, and all of them were so happy with the results and got just what they wanted even without trials. Having our hair and makeup done by such a pro was one of the best decisions I made in the whole wedding. We were able to relax and enjoy getting ready. Thank you Capri!

Christine came up on a search in Austin for lashes. I had been wanting to get lash extensions…read morefor-forever but never knew where to go and prices were always either too high it was obnoxious or sooo low you knew they'd look bad. I was looking for something that looked natural (like they look like they're MY lashes even if they are crazy-ass long) but big and beautiful. After reading about Christine's work and her deal I decided it was well priced and well recommended enough to finally go on and just do it! I called Christine, she answered right away and was very professional, knew her schedule and followed up through a few texts until we secured a time. My friend also wanted a full-set and Christine was super amazing and reasonable offering us a deal if we both came in! HELL YEAH! Her studio was super cute and clean. Her table (where you lay down) was beyond comfy- almost TempurPedic style. It was very easy to relax, too easy actually. Christine was very accommodating to my conversation and questions but also let me relax when i just wanted to unwind during the process. Perfect! Cause you know sometimes you have people who wanna talk too much or not at all and both can be a little creepy or annoying! She did a GREAT job! Very professional in her work, very honest in her prices and the reasoning behind it and no complaints. She told us a few tips for keeping them in the best shape possible. I went to her about three weeks ago and my lashes are finally starting to shed along with some extensions. I only wish I could come to her for my 'refill' but alas, i live in Brooklyn, NY. However, I plan on visiting her once back in Austin. Thank you for the information, the deal and the great look Christine!

I saw Christine a few weeks ago and she was very friendly/sociable and polite. This was my first…read morefull-set application experience. It was done in her home. Her child was home at the time and was needy and loud as a child is expected to be. She tried her best to manage her child and me as the client as professionally as possible though it did not make for a very relaxing experience at all. After my application was completed I was satisfied with how they looked. They were very natural looking with a little bit of oomph. Over the course of the next 48 hours I made sure to follow her instructions - not get the lashes wet etc. However, after 3 days -- the majority of lashes on my right eye had fallen out. On day 4 day, even more had fallen out (there were probably 8-10 lashes left on right eye) and also a lot had fallen out on the left eye as well. I contacted Christine via E-mail but did not get a reply back for 3 days, at which point i had 3 lashes left (after 1 week at this point). I know it was over Thanksgiving holiday so that could be the reason for the delay. She mentioned it was normal to lose a few lashes the first few days but losing more than half in one eye was not normal and to let her know if I wanted her to take a look. This being my first experience, I felt maybe it was just me and did not revisit to get them reapplied and with my current schedule I did not have the time to sit for another hour. So I did not go back even though she offered. After 2 weeks, 1 lash was left on my right eye and I counted about 10 left on the left eye. (80-90 were applied to each eye) I sought out Christine b/c of the offer she had (I paid $89 for a full-set of synthetic at the time). I have friends who get their lashes done and I have since gone to the local company they go to after finding a groupon. It's been 8 days and I have lost maybe 5 lashes. Almost all the lashes are still on and they are full ... I'm assuming it could either be the distraction in her home, or the glue/lash product that was used for the reason my application failed... I would not recommend Christine. I would recommend the other company I now go to b/c of the vast difference in customer experience and quality of application.
