I came here on a chilly night with my friend. The place was really vibey. Service was fast but nice and friendly. There was only street parking, but thankfully it wasn't crowded when we go there. I got their "Mex-Cali Lettuce Wrap" which consists of Vegan Chipotle Sausage wrapped in Romaine with guacamole, pico de Gallo & chipotle mayo ($13.71 with tax). I didn't choose their typical hot dog style since I'm trying to eat healthier, but the lettuce wrap was still pretty good! The vegan sausage had a unique yet tasty flavor to it. The sauces in the wrap also added a lot of zest which is something I really liked. The only downside is that I feel like the wrap should've been a bit bigger for the price. Aside from that, a pretty chill place to come by if you're craving hot dogs!

Finally was able to get into Dat Dog after attempting to make it happen for the last two trips down to New Orleans. I basically built my page early on just doing hot dog reviews so this one made too much sense to check out. I decided to check out the Rougarou and Chas got the Bacon Werewolf. We also each grabbed a frozen berry type margarita. The girl at the counter was friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the open seating arrangement with coverage but the no walls to allow for airflow. Decorations were bright and fun and they were playing music like Alkaline Trio and other bands like that which I love, so that was a bonus as well. The Frozen margarita beverage was delicious but I don't think I could handle the sweetness of more than one of them. Good berry flavor and you could definitely still tell there was the lime flavor of a margarita to this as well. The flavor of tequila was masked by the sweetness, which I actually didn't love but I'm sure most people would. I love tequila and like to taste it in my drinks. The Rougarou is an Alligator sausage with grilled onion, Bacon, tomato, Jalapeno, Creole mustard, and BBQ sauce. There was a tiny bit of spiciness from the jalapeno and I'm guessing the sausage had a little spice to it as well. Nothing overbearing at all, just stating it for people who don't like ANY spice. This felt like it may have ended up being too much going on at once to enjoy it, but it was quite good. The flavors played off each other well and I enjoyed this a lot. I can't really speak to the Bacon Werewolf but I did try the bratwurst from it by itself and it had good flavor. I would love to come back and try some more of the signature dogs and maybe build one of my own. Dat Dog in New Orleans, LA - Didn't Suck! I'm lucky enough to live a few streets down from here. It's a great place to hang out with friends, especially in October when the weather is good. This is one of the best patio hangout places. It reminds me of South Main in Fort Worth. I get Jimmy's Chicago Dog because it is the best Dog, hands down. However, nothing beats the $5 Coney Island dog for Happy Hour.

Came here to New Orleans to visit my friend and he took me here. OMG it did not disappoint. We came to this location of Dat Dog since it was pouring and this location has the most indoor/covered seating. The entire restaurant is super cute and colorful and there's hot dog themed decorations everywhere. You order at the counter and soon after, you're greeted with your gourmet hot dog at your table. I got the Rougaroo, which my friend had tried before and recommended. It was AMAZING, the alligator sausage had the snap that you need when you bite into a hot dog and the toppings made it that much better. He got the Irish Channel dog and he said it was really good. We also got the Fries WTF, which are kinda like nachos if you replaced the chips with fries. It sounds weird to put guac and sour cream on fries but they were amazing, a must-try. Dat Dog is so good, we joked about coming back here the next day for dinner. Well, my friend was joking but I was entirely serious. This place is amazing!

These hot dogs are famous in Nola for a reason. The combination and variety of hot dogs is insane. You will need to look the menu over before coming, but even still need a minute before ordering. I love their signature dogs and also the option to make my own with endless toppings. They are pretty filling if you order a side separately, but when I'm hungry I can take on two. They are great to share and delicious when paired with a beer. We got a variety of dogs to try as well as loaded tots and loaded fries. This is my second time ordering the chili cheese fries and I started remembering why I wasn't the biggest fan. I feel like something is missing but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe if the cheese was nacho cheese, idk. Anyway, I love that you can bring family, friends, or coworkers here. It is a picture-worthy place that created the friendliest and most welcoming atmosphere. The outside seating is the most popular when the weather is right. And they can open the windows to building to really let the fresh air in. It's decorated like cool and vintage garage or gas station. If you read their history you will understand why. But also the service at the register is patient and kind. Very helpful with the menu. The only downside that kind of put a damper on my night was the service for the food. She made a remark to my guests and made me feel uncomfortable and upset. It was their first time visiting here, but not mines. They ordered their food and realized no mayo was on the tables or brought out. They asked the waiter the first time if they could go inside and get it from the condiment station. She said no and said she would have to get it from the kitchen herself. Fine, no problem. But the second time they forgot to order the mayo with the dog, we had to asked the second time if she could grab some mayo. Maybe she was busy, maybe annoyed, but she responded (along the lines of) " You know next time you could just order it with your food, and then you don't have to wait for me to go back into the kitchen." It was the tone of it all. When I go back I will make sure I do not get service from her. I don't know her name but there aren't many women that work there so I'm sure she will stand out. I'm sorry if you were having a bad night, but unfortunately you have spread your rudeness to a person who takes hospitality and service very much to heart. -for reference, I have waited tables and served in the F&B industry over 6 years. It was ny first job. So I can tell when someone is giving good service, being rude, or a bad server in general. But I won't say the service was completely bad, just needs some attitude improvement.

Smoked Bratwurst with chipotle Mayo and bacon

The food was delicious and the place is cute. I went on a rainy day, and although everything uncovered was obviously wet, the majority of this place is indoors or covered- which meant ample seating. The bright colors and unique illustrations give this place a quirky and eclectic vibe, which I enjoyed. I ordered a bratwurst and added bacon and chipotle Mayo. I actually didn't plan on ordering that but while I was at the cashier, I did feel rushed while ordering so I just chose whatever. I asked them a few questions regarding the crawfish sausage and a few toppings, but the short snappy responses made me a little uncomfortable. No one was in line and the restaurant didn't have that many guests so the interaction caught me off guard. Nonetheless, the bratwurst combination I ordered was sooooo good; it was juicy and packed with flavor. In addition, the loaded fries we ordered were just as tasty. The jalapeños gave it a little kick, but not too much. Overall, this place is good and the hot dogs are filling. I think this is cool place to hang out with friends too. They are strict with seeing vaccination cards or negative covid tests, so make sure to bring yours! I'd recommend this place, I would just suggest knowing what you want before coming.

The Crawfish Étouffée Dog is incredible!

Put A Smile On Your Face! Dat's da motto of Dat Dog...and it is very accurate. I visited here August 16th, 2021 with my daughter (she's a student at Loyno) and my wife. We all loved it! The outdoor beer garden is cheerful and inviting. As the name suggests this place is all about hot dogs. They also offer burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc.; but the hot dog is the main attraction. They feature Vienna Beef hot dogs which is a Chicago staple (and what I grew-up on). But I wanted a local touch, so I ordered the Crawfish Étouffée Dog: (Crawfish sausage, homemade crawfish etouffee, sour cream, onions, tomatoes, and Creole mustard). It was incredible! My wife and daughter both went with more traditional hot dogs, and were as pleased as I was. We all agreed the buns were outstanding. We also enjoyed a side of delicious cheese fries. I highly recommend Dat Dog!

We had an amazing lunch at Dat Dog!! Aristotle did a great job at the grill. The chicken sandwiches and tater tots were awesome! Service was outstanding and very personable! We will definitely be back! Great job!

The Rougarou Dog (minus a few bites)
    Audrey J.

I went with the Rougarou Dog, aka the alligator sausage with all the fixings. I think I made the right choice. Ten bucks ain't cheap for a hot dog but I'd say I got my money's worth. It was pretty deluxe and a good size. The alligator worked well with the jalapeño and sauces. We also got the tater tots with melted cheese, they disappeared quick. The restaurant itself has good energy too. A smaller area inside, with lots of outdoor seating. It was a cold evening, but the outdoor seating was a bit warmer, even though I didn't notice visible heaters. Would recommend coming here if you're hungry for a small meal or big snack.

Between my momma, my granny, and me, we've always cooked those dishes exactly the way our taste buds like them. Because of that, I don't order them out very often. Sure, I'll hit Willie Mae's or grab McHardy's when I need a fried chicken fix, but it's few and far between. High Hat is an exception. It's one of my go-to spots when I'm feeling lazy and craving that Delta-style cooking. Amy and I stopped in on a Tuesday night. I had the fried chicken with red beans and rice. Top Hat is one of the very few places I'll order red beans outside my own kitchen. Amy went with the coleslaw, cornbread, stewed okra, and black-eyed peas. The star of the meal is the fried chicken. My family always used a flour wash, but Top Hat's breading is incredibly thin with just a hint of cornmeal. It isn't what I grew up eating, but man...it is good. Add a little of the table hot sauce and it gets me every single time. The sides are solid across the board. The black-eyed peas are perfect, and the stewed okra tastes like somebody's grandma was in the kitchen. If I could change one thing, I'd make the coleslaw a little crisper, chop it a bit finer, and give it another spoonful of mayo, a splash of malt vinegar, and just a pinch of sugar. But that's my preference, not a complaint. Don't overlook the catfish either. It doesn't play. They can get busy, and the service sometimes moves at the pace of an August stroll through the park. But honestly...that's part of the charm. Good Southern food isn't meant to be rushed, and neither is High Hat. If you're looking for a taste of the Delta without leaving Louisiana, this is a mighty fine place to start.
