    Just Jerk Chicken

Ordered on 10/17/23 Jerk chicken cheese fries Large Just Jerk Chicken Northside Drive location via DoorDash I was skeptical at first due to the overall ratings, however I decided to give them a try. I have no complaints at all. The food was hot and fresh when delivered, and the order came with 3 small containers of extra bbq sauce The fries are prepared just right, or you can customize them to your liking. I added more cheese and seasoning to the fries and more pepper to the jerk chicken. Glad I ordered, keep up the good work!

I had the jerk chicken and the jerk fries. The food was pretty good and flavorful, at the top. But there was not enough sauce to make it to the bottom. I guess that is a way to make you buy more, I get it. But overall it was good and I would go back. The chicken was tender and juicy. The greens were decent. The fries were very good accept the fact that everything was on the top. And it isnt like you can stir the cheese and fries up to mix it, it was cooked on it (this is where having the sauce all the way through would have helped.

I've heard a lot of good things about Dat Fire Jerk Chicken. First, I saw this restaurant pop up on Yelp a lot (a lot of good reviews). Second, my fiancee and her friends/classmates at nearby Morehouse School of Medicine like this place. The school has ordered catering from Dat Fire many times. With so many endorsements, I just knew I had to check them out. I can confirm what most people have said: Dat Fire is good. Now I gotta be honest, this place doesn't look like much from the outside. It's kind of dumpy, but don't judge a book by its cover. The food and service are good. The parking lot is tiny with bumpy, broken sections of asphalt. If the lot is full, you can street park on Larkin for free. The building/structures are small and humble. This place is designed for takeout and delivery so it hasn't been hit too bad by the coronavirus pandemic we're all experiencing right now. They have a patio and outdoor bar seating. There's also a relatively new and spacious "Up Top Lounge" patio with corrugated roof coverage and heat lamps for cold weather. I tried calling this place a couple days in a row to see if they were still open for takeout during the pandemic, but I never got an answer. However, my fiancee saw they were still active on Grubhub so we made the trek over. On a Wednesday evening, there was a study stream of walk-in customers. I spoke with the server, Natalie, and she told me business hasn't been *too* bad. Their delivery orders have been about the same. Where they've seen a decrease in business is their walk-ins because surrounding schools and businesses have gone to work/study remote. Dat Fire has hand sanitizer on the wall inside the entrance and I saw Natalie disinfect the ordering counter after I ordered. Good job to these guys for staying on top of things. This is a Jamaican restaurant. In addition to jerk chicken, they specialize in jerk pork, brown stew, curry chicken and curry goat, oxtail, patties (e.g. traditional spicy beef and curry chicken as well as other fillings like spinach, jerk chicken, coco bread, and shrimp), and sides like rice and peas, cabbage salad, plantains, and collard greens. Also, they serve things like wings, tacos, hoagies, salads, jerk cheese fries, and seafood such as fried fish and curry shrimp (the latter available Friday only). They sell ready-made self-serve desserts too like cake and pie. Expect to spend anywhere from $7.50 to $19.50 each on meals that come with meat, rice and peas, cabbage salad or collards, and plantains. The oxtail and curry goat are the most expensive meats. Most meat patties run $2.75 apiece. Most sides are $2.75 or $3.50 each. Desserts, $3.25-3.50 each. About a half-dozen lunch specials that include a meat, sides, and canned soda cost less than $7 each and are available Monday-Friday, 11am-2pm. Drinks include D&G Jamaican brand bottled soda, various juices, and your standard bottled water and canned Coke products (roughly $1-3 per drink). I ordered the following: * Jerk chicken meal with rice and peas, cabbage salad, and plantains - $9.75 (large size) * Curry goat meal with rice and peas, cabbage salad, and plantains - $14.50 (small size) * Jerk chicken patty $2.75 I originally wanted oxtail and rum cake, but they were out of both (this was last week) so I opted for curry goat instead. We got takeout, of course. Natalie opened the curry goat box and showed me everything I ordered before bagging the food up to-go. I appreciated that. She included individually-wrapped plastic forks and napkins in the bag. The jerk patty was served in a brown paper bag, like a lunch bag. The curry goat meal was served in one of those white foam three-compartment boxes while the jerk chicken meal was served in a circular aluminum foil takeout pan with clear plastic top. The food looked and smelled great. We couldn't wait to get home and eat! Also, the food had a good amount of weight to it. The portion sizes were generous. Now some of that was the goat and chicken bones (both dishes are served bone-in), but still, relatively substantial serving sizes, even for the "small" curry goat meal size. Spicy jerk sauce was served on the side. Natalie told me they used to put it on top, but not anymore. Overall, the food was tasty, filling, and satisfying. We could tell the jerk patty was homemade. It had that "authentic" homemade quality to it. Like other Jamaican restaurants around town, Dat Fire has a case of fresh patties ready to sell. I enjoyed the jerk chicken and curry goat equally; my fiancee preferred the jerk chicken. They were both very boney, especially the goat, but that's the nature of these dishes. Wonderful flavor, especially with the jerk sauce which was legit spicy, but not overdone. What I loved the most, however, were the plantains. They were big and fantastic; among the best I've had. The cabbage salad was fresh, crunchy, and flavorful. It held up better in its own compartment in the foam box (juices didn't leak anywhere).

I can't emphasize enough how awful this was. Definitely didn't finish it and threw it straight into the garbage. I entered and ordered the Small Jerk Chicken Meal. It came with rice and peas and then I added on the steam cabbage for 50 cents and plantains. I also got a bottle of the Simply Natural Sorrel ($4.80). In total my order came to $15.03 and I added a $2 tip. The sorrel is really good. Highly recommend that beverage. But the food - absolutely not. As you can see from the picture, they gave me OLD FOOD. The cabbage was mush. The rice and peas no good. And the jerk itself - NO FLAVOR. I was literally biting into oily chicken with no flavor. I assume it was left over jerk chicken which they then put into the microwave to heat up. Absolutely will not be returning and shame on you. The lady at the register who took my order was very kind. I have no complaints about the customer service. However, the food is what I came for.

Solid Jamaican On my last trip To Dat Fire I stopped by at Noon on a Saturday and patties were not ready. As of April 2022, the veggie plate consists of plantains, rice & beans, cabbage and kale. I skipped the plantains and kale and just had the rice & beans and cabbage with curry gravy / sauce. It was very good. They have a small lot but plenty of side street parking adjacent to the restaurant. Quick service.

Ep. 84 of AntlantaEats If you're riding on Northside Dr, You're in the territory for some Authentic Caribbean food. The menu is very diverse for example: if you're looking for Tacos guess what? They serve Jerk chicken, pork & fish! My personal fav was the Jerk. Inside the fish DRIP is in Asian sauce it def enhanced the taste. Another major highlight that I have not come across at a Jamaican Restaurant is the CHEESE FRIES! What?? Yup. Just like the Tacos, you can choose 1 of the 3 options. Tbh I but I had to choose what to order 1st it would be the Tacos. Have you heard of "My Pops Sauce" originated in Jamaica, the chef created it. Let me tell you IT'S SPICY (bring out the rag). Only small takeaway is I wasn't crazy about the Curry. I think I loved the other stuff so much it was a "ehh" moment. Feel free to give a taste anyway. The Brown Stew Chicken was another favorite for me. Great texture & marinated Parking is a little small however there's some street parking in the surrounding area. BONUS + Outdoor Rooftop w/ Cover, Raggae Music blasting as you dine, Friendly cashier (shout out to Star!) Here's my experience: https://www.instagram.com/p/CRASE7TAoad/?utm_medium=copy_link

I was really hoping for some good jerk on this first stop in ATL. This place got great reviews. They seemed busy. However the chicken was flavorless and looked burnt. It came with a sauce on the side but im used to the chicken being cooked in the spices. The sauce was decent. The rice was hard. I don't even remember the cabbage but don't think it was good. The plantains were ok. Do not recommend.

Back again! This time tried the jerk pork--- yes to this too!!! So I'm a fan of the jerk chicken and pork. This place saves the day when you don't want to cook- it's spicy and delicious! Abs you can't beat the price!

After reading some reviews, I decided to try Dat Fire Jerk Chicken. I was hoping to "revisit" Jamaica via my taste buds with all these great reviews! Needless to say, it's wasn't that great. You do get a TON of food for the price which is great, but what I ordered didn't do it for me. I'm sure they have great items, I just wasn't satisfied. I would still check them out if you're into Jamaican! Give them a chance!

I order food to go for dinner. The food tasted really good, but I've had better Jamaican food. The rice was just a bit undone. The customer service was amazing though. You also get a great amount a food for the price you pay. Didn't really like the way the cabbage was steamed because it had corn. I just never had it that way. Other than that Would recommend the jerk chicken for a quick bite.

    Small oxtail

amazing lunch special for $5!! Trust me when I say that it may look like a small portion but it's more than enough. We ordered the lunch specials for: - curry chicken: not too curry which is nice - jerk chicken: grilled chicken and the jerk sauce comes on the side. Surprisingly not spicy, not sure if we can get levels of spice but I wish it had a kick to it. Honestly, the sauce sort of tasted like bbq? - brown stew chicken: was probably my favorite! The chicken is so moist and soaked up all the flavor. It's a sweet and savory stew with veggies. The best part is that the rice and beans also soak up all the stew nicely and adds that extra bit of flavor. They all come with rice/beans and cabbage or collard greens. Unfortunately the oxtail isn't on the lunch menu but we had to try it! The oxtail meat is very tender and soooo good. You get such a large amount especially for it being the "small". TLDR: get the lunch special to save $$. Try the brown stew and oxtail!

The customer service was amazing!! Shout out to our waiter. We started with the collard green dip topped with crawfish. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about the texture, but after a few bites I was hooked. The collard greens held up beautifully, and the crawfish on top was seasoned perfectly. Next, we had the lamb egg roll, and wow. It was filled with tender, juicy stewed lamb, and the sauce served alongside it took it to another level. Every bite was packed with flavor. My sister ordered the coconut curry salmon with coconut rice and couldn't stop talking about how delicious it was. I had the jerk chicken with Haitian rice and collard greens, and honestly, it was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. Everything was flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. The only downside for us was the drinks. This is where they lost points. We tried one of their signature drinks that resembled a piña colada and didn't care for it. Later, we ordered a lemon drop upstairs and didn't enjoy that either. If I went back, I'd probably just stick with water and focus on the food. After dinner, we headed upstairs to the gallery/lounge area, and that's where the night really took off. The music was amazing, the crowd was fun and welcoming, and we danced all night. The artwork throughout the space is beautiful and adds so much character to the experience. Great food, great atmosphere, great music, and an unforgettable night. Rock Steady gave me my first 10/10 dining experience, and I can't wait to come back.

I figured I would add an update to go along with a more recent set of photos. I was able to go in, get seated, order, and get a nice platter of ropa vieja. The food here is very reliable. I've just seen a slight but perceivable decline in their enthusiasm for customer service and, as it is elsewhere, it seems to show up when locales aren't even really busy. That was the situation here. I'd like to move them back up to 5, but this more sullen reception keeps Papi's in Midtown at 4 stars.
