Small but well stocked Vietnamese market. This is my go to market to get ingredients for Vietnamese food. Their seafood and meat counter is fresh and well stocked, so are their vegetables. For those people complaining about the parking, I don't think they realize that there is a large parking lot in the back of the market. The entrance to the parking in the back is not the easiest to see. Right before you pull into the small parking spots in the front of the market, you will see a red sign on the side of the building that will say entrance. Drive into the narrow driveway. My wife and I also go here for FRESH everything. If a bit pricier than other nearby supermarkets, but we don't mind. The parking here sucks since it's so small in the front and people parking over the lines making it that much harder. The seafood here are very fresh and definitely recommended. A bit hard to get someone to help you out quickly if you don't wave your arms wildly for attention lol. Aside from that the workers are veterans too! Love Day Moi. It is a World Market in a mini shell. I've come here before looking for specific items and they tend to have them. No matter if you're cooking Thai, Vietnamese, Soul, Creole, Cajun, Jamaican they have specialty items for what ever. It's always funny when I need blue crab and the crab starts fighting back. I became afraid of picking the crab, thankfully A Brave Young Man was there to help me out today. I noticed tons of fresh seafood and other "exotic" meats. Having lived in Central Florida for 6 years prior to moving to California, I had grown accustomed to doing all of my Caribbean grocery shopping at a giant Carribbean specific market... the size of a typical Ralph's or Vons. At that place, they had EVERYTHING. So, I was beyond disappointed when I arrived in LA and couldn't find any Caribbean that was bigger than a hole in a wall joint. So I was on yelp, and thank god I came across this listing. Dat Moi Market is the best thing that I could find in my part of LA that would subdue my Caribbean cravings. The place is small but larger than most little west indian places that I've seen here. It has a small variety of product, a larger selection of shelf items, and best of all... its seafood/meat selections.... very very fresh! A feature that I really like is that you can select whatever fish you like... literally, you use tongs to pick the fish out of bins of ice, place them onto a tray, a worker comes and takes the tray from you. You can have them scale it for you, cut it up however you'd like, or even have them fry it for you! NICE! I saw a variety of people there... asian, caribbean, african, american... I only wish there were more of these markets around but its the best that i've found so far, so it gets 3.5 stars. read more

This market is awesome! I love a great ethnic market and this place makes me happy! I was in the mood to make some Vietnamese Pho and a manicurist at a salon I went to recommended this market. The staff are friendly and helpful...I told one of the store clerks I was making Beef Pho and he helped me find everything I needed :) The prices here are very affordable too! Besides Vietnamese grocery items, I also found many authentic Thai & Jamaican items as well. There are lots of canned imported pantry items like Pho canned broth & dry seasoning packets; Thai seasonings & pastes for dishes like Tom Yum Soup, Spicy Basil Chicken, Pad Thai, Red or Green Curry, etc.; Jamaican Jerk Marinades, Festival Bread Mix, Scotch Bonnet pepper sauces, etc.. There is also a meat & seafood counter with fresh oysters, shrimp, blue crab and LOTS of fresh fish (many unique varieties), beef, oxtails, pork, etc. The produce section, while small, had a great selection of items such as Thai Basil, Plantains and many exotic fruits and veggies that are hard to find. I also found fresh rice noodles, young coconut juice, iced chrysanthemum tea & thai iced tea in the dairy case. There were also lots of unique frozen meats, seafood and veggies also. I went home with all of the ingredients for my "lazy" Beef Pho and it was pretty good! FYI I tried the large can of Pho broth and it was really salty, so you may want to dilute some of their broths with water before serving...also many of the items do have MSG but I decided to just ignore it this time :) read more

This market is probably the best alternative market to those in Westminster. It's relatively smaller, but they still have a wide range of selections. Just that the place feels sort of cramped. They always have what you can't find at the typical American grocery store and offer lots of fresh produce---meat, seafood, fish, & fruits! Even though it is a Vietnamese market, the customers are very diverse, so don't think that they only offer Vietnamese type of products here. They also have $2/5/10 international phone cards if you need them. Don't need to drive down to OC for that! This place used to have a really small parking lot, but the owner was kind enough to expand the lot! The sad thing is, even with the expanded lot the market still gets filled up pretty fast! read more

First I parked on the street so that I wouldn't have any hassles. Very busy inside; lots of action around the fish counter. I came here looking for pigeon peas and found a lot more! I also ended up buying queso fresco, Vietnamese coffee, sofrito, ginger beer, plantain chips and adobo seasoning. How's that for an eclectic market? This might be owned and ran by Vietnamese but that doesn't make it a Vietnamese market. Very few items were Vietnamese, went there looking for a few simple viet items and couldn't find them. Was disappointed as it was a little out of the way and parking was tricky. The lot is decently sized but the entrance to the lot is complicated and if you blink you'll pass it. I would say this is more of an international market instead. They had plenty of hispanic foods and seasonings, lots of indian spices and what not and their seafood seemed to be fresh but they just fell short in the Viet products. I've never seen Asian + Carribbean food market before. Strange experience. Like others said, the market is jam packed with hard-to-find imported foods. The live seafood selection is amazing for its selection and quality. The place is also very crowded and dirty. You don't want to touch those basket handles. There's hardly room for people to stand by the cashiers. Parking is a nightmare. The entire lot is rundown. I probably wouldn't come back here again as I don't live in the neighborhood. This to me is the house of tilapia fish ......one of the main specialties is tilapia fish at 2.19 a pound. Appart from the great price on the fish they fry it for free approximately a 20 minute wait so they can fry your fish...... The taste is perfect , they stripe it so that when u get your fish you can just dig in and get the meat....you can taste the freshness of the fish and that the oil is kept clean... They have a good variety of fresh fishes tilapia, robalo, red snapper, yellow tail snapper, catfish, and others... They Also Have Blue crabs, shrimp, octopus, clams, oysters. i definitely recommend ordering their egg rolls. They are like $1 for 2 and so yummie. They aren't skimpy and dinky like other places, like my family will cut them in half and then distribute them. We come here for one thing, the Jamaican Patties. Living in the UK, there is a large Caribbean community and I grew up on these things. Being here in LA, I was clueless on where to go to find these goodies. I'm not sure what bakery provides these patties to Dat Moi, but I can say they are one of the best I've had. They have two different patties, Beef and Chicken. My husband likes the beef and I like the chicken.The crust is buttery and yummy, the filling is spiced right and they do not skimp on the filling. Come early to avoid disappointment and to get the freshest batch. This market is filled with goodies, I like the selection that they have. If you are planning to cook Asian/Caribbean they have a wide array of products from each country. I got what I wanted for a cheap price. The ambiance is not as you would expct walking in albertsons or vons. This place is a total asian market full with fresh asian vegetables and fruits. Also, a variety of sea food. You buy fish, they fry it for you. The staff are customer friendly..but you might want to bring an interpreter with you. To make it easier for you and the staff, you can do the POINT YOUR FINGER METHOD. (specially in the sea food area) Meaning, you point the item you would like to purchase and you tell them how many lbs you want, they will weight it, give you a piece of paper, you pay to the cashier first before you get your item. I live in south hawthorne and asian markets are a distance away. Dat moi market is vey near from where I reside. So I definately recommend going to this place if you want to save gas. Its worth it and you will find the same items you find in either marukai or filipino store. read more

I came here on the recommendation from my boss. Parking is a little weird since its only street parking on a busy street or on the side? It looks super sketch. The market is small compared to the giant 99 Ranch or Mitsuwa. They do manage to have all the necessary South East Asian ingredients. There was a line for the meat and seafood. This place has been around for ages. To put things into perspective I came here before it was renovated with a higher ceiling. Dat Moi didn't start getting busy until they began expanding their live seafood. It got seedy over the years and I remember an employee of mine who'd had her purse snatched after leaving with her groceries. It's good for hard-to-find fresh seafood and Asian foods, but I would avoid coming here in the evening, when it is teeming with people and the chances of robbery seems higher amid the chaos. I also hated coming here as a kid because one of the butchers would harass me. In retrospect, I believe he displayed all the tell tale signs of a child molestor. he would come out from behind the deli counter during business amid long lines just to try talking to me and would put his arms on my shoulders in front of my mother despite the fact I was clearly bothered. They really need to get a number system at the meat counter, people are always trying to go before customers who have been waiting in line before them. Yes, yes, and yes! This is the closest place I could find to get Jamaican food: ackee, saltfish, and Jamaican patties (in the frozen section). I got my ingredients to make Jamaican rice & peas and even picked up some Jamaican kolas. Pricey for sure; however, everything I bought was imported so it's what I expected. This is where I come to get fresh snow crab and shrimp for my gumbo. The snow crab clusters are always big and fresh and have the claw intact. I absolutely love this little market! Has an excellent variety of seafood and meat. Great place to buy fresh meat and seafood for gumbo. I really like their shrimp selection. Largest I have ever seen in one store. Moved into the neigborhood 6 months ago and I just stumbled upon it recently. Since, I have traveled international quite a bit, I really enjoy the feeling shopping there. Someone stated it's has the feel of an outdoor open air market place and they are right.
