We stopped in on a Sunday morning for Brunch and I am so glad we did. The options were plentiful and everything was so good. The carving stations were really good. They had plenty of breakfast options and definitely lots of protein to add on your plate. The veggies and pasta options were also very good. The restaurant itself was very elegant with beautiful large windows which provide a great water view. The premises were beautifully landscaped and had plenty of areas of beautiful flowers and plantings. Unfortunately for us, it was a grey and rainy day but it still was beautiful. Jay, took care of all our needs and we were super pleased with great service and he was very helpful. We will definitely come back again!! The ambiance is beautiful with its ocean views and lovely inside decor. Host and waitress were welcoming and friendly. Waitress was excellent as she came over to check on us frequently. The food, well, I wish it were better. I ordered the salmon which came out dry and the asparagus was undercooked. My friend ordered the veal chop which was overly breaded and the salad, which was enormous and piled high on the chop, covered the entire plate when she went to take it off and was very bitter. The tiramisu was very good as was my cocktail. The food was disappointing and I hope it improves given the beautiful location. read more

Holidays completely overpriced and sub-par. We attended their Thanksgiving "brunch" buffet for $100/adult, $50/kid. What a rip off! Service was nonexistent. Fine dining, excellent service, in an upscale venue. I thought that was a thing of the past. Since there are several floors with different moods; from a bar, private room, main dining room, or an outdoor dining area to choose from, it's up to you to choose what best suits you. There is live music. Both a piano player on one level and a local band in the bar. The grounds are also inviting and to a degree romantic. The food is very well prepared and plated excellently. And, even though there were 16 of us, we all received our dishes almost simultaneously. There's an extensive wine list and soft drinks are also available. read more

I love the venue, but the food was horrible. I had the veal which should be amazing at an Italian restaurant. It was rolled and stuffed with what might be garlic and basil with some cheese on top. It was tough and dry, lacked flavor and was underwhelming. The menu could use a rehab, some simple Italian with nice specials might do this venue better. I absolutely love Waters Edge Resort & Spa. Ever since I had my birthday brunch here 3 years, I've been trying to get back here. We decided to have dinner at Dattilo Fine Italian last night and it was a great time. Our waiters were personable and the salmon dish was good. It was a tad bit salty but it didn't taint the experience. After dinner, we grabbed drinks and walked down to the beach. I came here for dinner while staying in the hotel with my fiance for our second annual visit. We made a reservation for Datillo and showed up for our 5:30pm seating. We were seated in in the seaside bar and grill section and not the Datullo section, which we understood given Covid probably made it hard to have servers in both areas. We wished we had the view bit again understood given the circumstances. Our waitress Linda was great and checked on us frequently and was friendly. We ordered steamed mussels for an appetizer and then the veal and steak. The mussels were good and you got a decent amount for the price. The main entrees were a bit smaller so glad we got the appetizer before hand. The steak was a bit overcooked, well done rather than medium, but still tasty. For the price I'd expect it to be correct, but the seasoning and flavor was very good. Overall a nice visit, I'd recommend. read more

This is one of those restaurants that has everything going for it ({i.e. the ambience, the view, the accommodations etc.) - but shockingly - it's clear they have made preparing exceptional FOOD their lowest priority. It's a shame. It was our Anniversary Dinner. We ate dinner overlooking the water. How romantic and beautiful. Unfortunately the meal was a colossal letdown. My wife had a Filet Mignon which was unseasoned and somewhat tasteless. I had the Pappardelle Bolognese which was bland, dry, tasteless and disappointing. I will give them a compliment on the Crème Brûlée desert though - that was the best part of the meal. I guess- being that this restaurant was located within the Water's Edge - we had high(er) expectations. Seriously I was really looking forward to dining here. We got there early and sat at the bar. We asked the bartender what kind of Malbec and Cabernet they have. Truthfully I've never had this happen to me before. But they do say there's a first time for everything. She picks up one of the bottles but than either another bartender or bar hand was talking to her. She completely turned to face this woman and started talking to her while we were in mid conversation. I wouldn't of minded if it was a quick answer to this persons question. It was not. It had to be at least 2 minutes. Seriously if she would have said "excuse me just a second" I would've been fine with that. But this was mid wine conversation with us. Dinner was just okay. Husband ordered a Caesar salad and his meal. I just ordered a prime rib. They bring his salad out and not more than maybe 5 minutes they bring out his meal and mine. I take mine and my husband says "I'm still eating my salad, please take it back". Waiter comes over AND asks if everything is alright. He explains we just got served salad and the meal was back to back. Prime rib was decent, pretty tasty. Desserts....hubby had the tiramisu and said it was good. It taste like something was missing, but that would just be because it was not hot. Nothing bad was missing, just felt like something else could have sprinkled on there. Hopefully this makes sense. I think I'm used to Italian places offering fresh pepper... Idk how to describe it exactly, but it wasn't bad... just could have used a litttle something something extra. The lemoncello was honestly the highlight of the meal! It was so yummy and fluffy!! The cake bottom was moist but light. We literally ate allll of it. What happened to this place? Reviewing brunch. Used to be the kind of place you come to for a special brunch- good service, good food and great view. While the view was still good, everything else not so much. Walked in for a double birthday brunch and it was empty. We thought Great. Service will be excellent right? So wrong! Plates stacked up without being cleared. Waited 35 minutes for 2 beers and a mimosa. My daughter had to ask twice for her drink. And the food quality has gone way downhill. Small gristly piece of prime rib dying under the lights. "Crepe" station was with premade tortilla like crepes they threw on a pan full of oil. When you pay close to $50 pp you should expect more than this. Honestly. And staff made it very clear they had no interest in serving us. Do better Waters Edge or I can't expect you to last many more winters. read more

Beautiful Resturant but the food was disappointing. Took my family there and I'm sorry to say not one order was worth the price. The veal was served bland and hard, the seafood and pasta was salty and the steak was just ok. Also the service could have been better. Had to ask two waiters for a steak knife and didn't receive it until I was half way done. No one came by to check on us until we were almost done with are meal, by the I figure it be best to skip desert and just leave. I would like to add the bar and grill and out food service is very good. The staff is friendly and very attentive. A pit pricey, but I mind the cost less with good service. Finally the Hotels Breakfast is definitely the best n the area. Large portion so it's better to share if you want to save. But I must say the French toast, pancakes and omelette are great and worth it.I definitely plan to eat breakfast there again. Glad to see you guys care enough to read and respond to reviews. Big mistake!!! The food is horrible. We started with the calamari, very chewy. We had the chicken with arugula, flavorless. My husband had the steak very fatty and overcooked. I will say the onion rings great!! It was $100 and honestly we left so upset and disappointed. Our overnight stay came with breakfast so we decided to give that a chance, why?? The pancakes should have been crepes. Thin and had the microwave taste to them. Overall just a sad disappointment. We saved up for this as it was my birthday but what a letdown. read more

So the hubby and I met a friend here for brunch, and we were pleased with some parts of the brunch. So without question, my husband loved the Prime rib. It was fresh and cooked perfectly. He actually got seconds of this. I enjoyed the fresh made Belgium waffles. They were small but crunchy and delicious oh an did I mention the warm maple syrup, perfect match. They had some nice cheese and decent fresh fruit, lots of salads, and salad making options. I really enjoyed the dessert, not that I had much room but a tangy lemon square, delicious tiramsu, and lots of other tasty looking cakes and fruited pastries. The letdown was ther shrimp and salmon bar. I can not speak for the salmon, but my husband and I both had picked up so.e questionable looking shrimp. Kind of between 3.5-4.5 stars. My food was great. Breakfast was good - I had eggs Benedict, one of the poached eggs was perfectly runny, the other one a bit overcooked but it was delicious nonetheless. My dinner was good too - I had the cavatelli with sausage and broccoli rabe, it was delicious!!! But my mother's cod was a bit too salty. It's a beautiful restaurant by beach (and if you get there around 6 there's live music) and the wait staff were all super attentive and great. They have a large selection of bottled wine. We first order a bottle of Angelini Pinot Grigio which they were out of. Waiter brought a bottle of pinot noir which he claimed was the same. We settle for a bottle of Alexander Valley Chardonnay. Unfortunately it came to the table warm. This was then followed with a bucket of ice. Needless to say a 40th anniversary meal was ruined with bad food warm wine and a waiter who tried to give us a steak meal in lieu of the meal we ordered. Maybe we should have taken the steak. This was absolutely the most disappointing meal we've ever had. We were a party of 4 with my mom in a wheelchair. We couldn't do stairs so we ate in the Seaview area. Our waiter took our orders promptly and was great until our meal was served. He then disappeared for long stretches (not crowded at all and plenty of servers between lunch and dinner on a weekday). Our meals: Spinach Fettuccine- complete mush swimming in sauce House Burger - no complaints Swordfish meal - fish was very dry, everything else was fine Marguerite Pizza - undercooked, not even hot, over-sauced Limoncello cake - very good Tiramisu cake - not much flavor Drinks were fine. Side note: be sure to ask prices (seasonal items, desserts that have no prices) before ordering. Crazy expensive for a small slice of cake. My party of four dined at the Dattilo on a Saturday in early June. We had a 5:00 pm reservation and, upon arriving early, we were able to secure the best table indoors that had an amazing ocean view. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, but after the drinks were ordered we found her to be less and less available and attentive to our table. One of our appetizers was so late it came just prior to the entrees. Our second drink order was very-much delayed, and we saw her socializing with non-seated people (guests, friends?) while we waited for her to take our dessert order - we ended up foregoing dessert and getting the check instead. What was most annoying was the upstairs live piano music which was so loud that it prevented us from conversing at the table and eventually giving us headaches. The food was fine yet expectedly overpriced for the nature of the venue. I would recommend a different seaside dinner experience. read more

I preface this by saying that I've dined here at the resort several times in the past and the food was always good. I even had my wedding here and the food was fine. But this was before the restaurant changed hands. The good: we ate outdoors. It is a beautiful setting overlooking the Sound and lovely manicured lawns. And that's about it. The bad: There were 3 of us for lunch on a weekday. 1). Two of us ordered cream of asparagus soup and asked to make sure it was hot. We were told it would be since it came from the steam table. Not only was it lukewarm, but it was loaded with the strings from the asparagus. Apparently they never thought to run it through a strainer. 2). Two of us ordered tea. Again it was lukewarm when served, and even refills in small metal pots were also lukewarm. Was the water poured too early before being served? Was there a problem with the dispenser? 3). Two of us ordered lobster rolls. While it contained a nice amount of lobster meat, it was almost tasteless. How can one make a lobster roll tasteless? Who knows? Perhaps lack of butter? I had to request lemon and that didn't help much. 4.) We asked for perhaps coleslaw in place of the fries. They don't have it. Who serves seafood without offering coleslaw or a side salad? Not in any shoreline restaurant I've patronized. 5.) The third person had the salmon which she said was fine and nicely cooked. At least one of us lucked out. The waitress was, at the start, not very pleasant, but warmed up as the meal went on. All in all, not a pleasant experience. read more

We had a really great time having dinner and drinks. The views are really pretty. The service was a little slow at the bar but then once we sat for dinner the service was much better. The food was delicious and very fresh and hot. My fiancé had the lobster ravioli and I had the chicken breast. Both entrees had great portions and full flavors. This restaurant advertises itself on its web page as "one of the best Sunday brunches in Connecticut." This is incorrect. Based upon my six months (so far) residency in Connecticut, and having gone to a few Sunday brunches, I would say that to date, without question, this is the BEST Sunday brunch in Connecticut. I was there with my spouse on October 6, 2019. This rating is based upon the excellent food quality, which is interestingly presented (for example, the salmon is Mediterranean style, the salads include Israeli couscous), and even more so, the extraordinary view and best of all, the totally professional, thoroughly perfect service. All of our wait staff was wonderful. A special thank-you and kudos to Carol, who I understand is the manager, who was in addition to her other job, was taking care of reservations that day. I had called earlier in the week to make a reservation, as Oct. 6 is the anniversary of an important date in my life. I had requested a table near the windows for the view. Carol said she could not guarantee same, but would do her best. Carol's best is excellent, indeed. Not only did she escort us personally to our table, but she asked which of three tables we would most like! In an era when customer service all too frequently means that the customer serves, Carol and all the staff at Water's Edge are amazing antidotes to that! Worst meal we have ever had. Chicken was like a hockey puck. The lobster ravioli smothered in a cream sauce was like paste. They don't even have bread for the table. When asked, they said they don't serve bread. Unheard of. While the staff was very nice they have no clue how to serve. Very disorganized. Prices are way over the top for the portion size. We went here last night to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. It was a special occasion as she is never home for her birthday. It took us 3 hours to have dinner! Not only that, the food was terrible! I ordered sea bass (and paid for sea bass!) and got a piece of flounder! The rest of the meals were the same, likened to a rotissiere chicken from Stop and Shop and the steaks were overcooked and dry. Waiters were running around as though the house was on fire. Our evening was disappointing, to say the least. We had small children with us and our plan was to go outside after dinner, enjoy a nightcap, and listen to the band for a few minutes. The three hour dinner prevented us from doing so and enjoying a wonderful evening. All for a $500 tab! Very disappointing and basically ruined our entire evening. Prices are steep, you don't get what you order, and the wait was unacceptable. I would not recommend this restaurant and, unfortunately will not return. What a shame for such a beautiful location.
