I went to Sammy's restaurant yesterday. I had previously been to that location when it was a different restaurant. We were passing by, I saw there is now an Italian place and we decided to stop in. I thought the restaurant was very beautifully decorated and very clean! Staff were very attentive. My meal was delicious, my husband enjoyed his too. Although he thought the sauce was a little bland in his opinion, I tried it and thought it was sweet but good. I do plan on coming back. I would also have a party there. read more

Went to Sammy's Friday night with my husband. Had the chicken masala that was absolutely delicious!! My husband had salmon that he thoroughly enjoyed! Milos, the bartender made wonderful drinks and we had a great conversation! The food , atmosphere and staff was so great we had to revisit today !!! It's a beautiful Sunday and we were driving along the shoreline. We spotted Sammy's and decided to give it a try. Nice sized menu with lots of options. You don't see Beef Stroganoff on a menu very often so we both ordered it. So glad we did, it was delicious ! Came with salad and bread. The bread had a bowl of pimentos and green olives that you could add to your salad if you wish. The salad was so fresh and the cucumbers looked so fancy the way they were sliced. I wish the salad plate was a bit larger (the salad was fine just a bit difficult to navigate). We sat outside on their spacious front porch which was perfect as was the weather. This past Sunday my son and daughter in law got married at the Water's Edge. My husband and I hosted a dinner at Sammy's Saturday night for the out of town guests. We are from NJ and did an internet search and that's how we found Sammy's. We were approximately 65 people, the largest pre-wedding party Sammy's had done. They could not have been more accommodating. We had the bar, 2 rooms and the patio. The food was delicious and plentiful, the service great. They packed up the left overs which we are still eating!! I would highly recommend Sammy's and if I am ever back in Westbrook works definitely go there again for dinner. read more

Side salad was boring, old school, dressing was very acidic, not restaurant made. Need to make salad dressings in house to have better control over food costs and flavors. We were looking to try a new restaurant in town and had heard great things about Sammy's. Unfortunately, our experience was not all positive. I have a task trained service dog, and we were denied access to the dining area inside the restaurant due to "allergies". My dog was fully vested and clearly marked as a service animal. I politely explained that my dog is a service animal and access is required by ADA and federal law and that, by these laws as well, allergies and/or fear of dogs are not a reason to deny access or services, to which who I presumed to be the restaurant owner responded that he "could not have us inside" and we "had to be seated outside". The service by the staff was great, Maggy and another older gentleman who I did not get the name of were very kind, as well as very understanding and mindful of my dog. The same man who denied us from being seated inside then brought another party out to the patio and proceeded to tell them my dog is very friendly, encouraging them to try to interact with him (talking to him, staring, making kissy noises), which can be incredibly harmful to handlers should they have a medical episode and their dog is distracted. I suggest this business become familiar with service animal public access laws and equal treatment of those with service animals. Taken directly from the ADA website: "Allergies and fear of dogs are not valid reasons for denying access or refusing service to people using service animals," and "EXAMPLE: A restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. A woman arrives at the restaurant with her service dog and asks to sit inside. The restaurant cannot require the woman to dine outside because of her service dog." We went here when we were staying in Westbrook in a beach community about a half a mile away. We had the best stuff mushrooms we've ever had. Point-blank phenomenal. All I wanted was a good calamari for Father's Day dinner. I searched on Yelp, and settled on Sammy's. It seemed like a nice place, kind of upscale, local, and had calamari. We just stopped in, with no reservation, and were seated right away. I noticed quickly how hot it was inside, and wished we sat outside. It was hot, and humid inside with no airflow. The staff looked hot and miserable. Our waiter was an older guy. He was decent at first, but forgetful, then became nonexistent. He made bold claims about the food, saying this and that was the best around. I ordered a mixed drink for Father's Day, that was forgotten, and showed up by another waitress like ten minutes after my table had their drinks. When the salads came, he had the wrong dressing. The calamari was pretty good, was not rubbery, and had a big portion. I couldn't figure out what the white sauce was it came with. My wife ordered the baked stuffed shrimp. She was laughing when it came out, because it looked like three big dry muffins were put on top of three small shrimp. The stuffing was dry, and required most of the butter supplied to moisten it up. The much anticipated and hyped roasted potatoes were old and chewy, and had way too much garlic powder on them. I ordered the eggplant rollatini florentine special. The plating was a big splat of sauce and cheese, with nothing recognizable. The marinara was very sweet. There was no texture to the meal, and would be perfect for a toothless dinner. My son's burger was burnt, but the fries were good, an excellent redeeming factor. Yeah right! Our waiter disappeared after the food came, never asked if we wanted another drink. It took about 10-15 of waiting for him to come get the check. I went outside and waited, because it was so hot inside. When I went outside, I realized we should have eaten outside, because it was nicer outside than inside. read more

We were very pleased with our decision to stop here for lunch. We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms, which were excellent! The stuffing was moist with a slight crisp from the oven topped with a balsamic glaze, oh yum! Next we ordered the house salad with grilled chicken and the turkey club with crispy fries. Both were excellent! Salad was large, enough for leftovers! The salad dressing (ranch) tasted home made, but not sure. It was good though. WOW! I can't believe we just found this place! It's been open for one year. When you walk up to the front porch, you can see that it was tastefully decorated with love. The front doors are beautiful as is all of the outdoor landscaping. We were promptly seated in a beautiful booth. The inside is absolutely spotless and tastefully decorated. Our server Enola was adorable, professional and prompt. We started with their artichoke Francese, Lemony and delicious. I had the chicken Parmesan. My husband had the chicken marsala. We both opted to pay the additional two dollars for the housemaid papardelle, which didn't disappoint. Both dishes were executed to perfection, cooked perfectly, and tasted outrageously Good. They were large portions at very reasonable prices. For dessert I had the crème brûlée cheesecake and my husband had the tiramisu. Both were delicious. If you haven't been here yet, I would highly recommend it. We looked at their dinner menu and we'll definitely be back. We met the owner Sammy, He happened to be by the front desk. He was absolutely lovely, took us for a personal tour of the beautiful, well appointed interior, bar, and outdoor seating. They also had a beautiful room that would be perfect for a private party, such as a shower, birthday, Christmas party, etc. It is a family run establishment. Sammy's restaurant was a very pleasant experience. Very attractive outside with lighted trees and landscaping. We sat in the bar area in a nice comfortable booth and ordered a few drinks and dinner. My specialty martini was really good. I ordered the chicken Francese, mainly because they use Bell & Evans chicken. It did not disappoint! The chicken was SO tender and the pasta and lemony buttery sauce were delicious. And I was only able to eat half so I finished the rest for lunch the next day! We made a reservation for 6 pm on a Friday and it was surprisingly quiet when we got there. We started with the artichokes which were very unique and tasty. I was expecting more from the calamari considering we are so close to water; it seemed to just be frozen calamari rings. The soup was good. My husband enjoyed his pasta.
