We came here on a weekday afternoon and got seated very quickly. The ambiance is very nice with beautiful bouquets of flowers hanging around the restaurant. We ordered the from lunch prix fixe menu and it came out to about $45 a person for two lunch courses (not including tip). The first course was Tom Yum soup, the second were appetizers, of which we ordered a somosa and chicken wing. Then we ordered the tofu pad Thai and the person I was with ordered the brisket. They charge $6 extra for the brisket. The pad Thai tofu was good, but it was lacking -- there were about 4-5 pieces of tofu, which was very little for a dish. The somosa was good, but the curry that came with it was also very small. We both ordered the Thai Tea lemonade. It was different, and had both the tastes of lemonade and Thai Tea. At the prices for what we got, I'm not sure I would come back here. It was definitely on the pricy side, and I understand they were featured on the news, but it was still not as filling as I would have liked for the price that we paid. read more

Really beautiful ambiance and atmosphere with luscious flowers. But I found the price not justified by the taste. There are just too many amazing delicious mom and pop Thai restaurants in the bay to pay 2- 3 times as much here. I came with a party of 8 and with no drinks, it was 45$ a person. We ordered the little lao table set which was very beautiful and had a smattering of the chef's specials, the red curry, the khao soi, and the fried chicken. But it just wasn't enough food to adequately feed 4 people and so we had to order more. I just don't think the value for food is here read more

Went there for dinner the other day and it was an overall good experience. Prices def went up since I was last here yrs ago I guess as expected. My friend asked if there were any happy hour deals and we were surprised to learn there were! But there was no happy hour menu for some reason so it took a while to understand what exactly was on there and what prices were. Ends at 6:30 and has 2 wings for $5 and beer for $5 from what I recall because we got those. We felt bad to ask the waitress a 3rd time what she said but couldn't hear bc of a drum that was very loud for a bday at a nearby table. Our suggestion? Pls print out HH menus!! We ordered the following: Thai fried rice with tofu Pad See you with tofu Side of curry sauce Crispy roti Hat yai fried chicken Crispy pork belly Tom yum bowl with chicken Panang neua The fried rice was decent, but it tasted more like Chinese style fried rice to me than what I'm used to from eating at Thai restaurants. I liked that the tofu was firm. I thought the pad see you was pretty good, they used quite a bit of soy sauce. I wasn't a fan of the big pieces of carrots in both and the big tomatoes in the fried rice, though. The roti and curry sauce were yummy and savory. I didn't eat the meat dishes, but the others in my party enjoyed them. Great vibe great food! Parking available adjacent to the restaurant. Super cute decors too. They have a patio as well as spacious indoor seating. Clean bathroom and friendly staff. We ordered the famous fried chicken-- the curry dip with roti was great, chicken thinly battered and it came with a sweet and sour sauce. The basil bomb was delicious! I love stirfry with basil and seafood so this dish satisfied my craving for both. However I found that papaya salad is a little too salty and saucy. The papaya seems to have been marinated in the sauce for a while so it felt bit soggy. The presentation of drinks was also amazing! We ordered the pandan cocktail which was basically like a dessert drink and the thai punch and liked both. From the taste, menu, food presentation to the ambiance of this restaurant, we love this place and would definitely return. And the cocktails were fantastic! You really can't go wrong there. The bad, however, was the service. We got there at 8, an hour before closing and left at closing. And basically from start to finish the waitresses were trying to speed us along - first, asking for our order basically right after we sat down, and then asking multiple times if we wanted to have our stuff put in a to-go bag less than 20 minutes after we'd been served dinner - *while we were still eating*. It tasted great, but was lacking veggies and honestly was 90% noodles... the second time, I ordered the yellow curry. Again, tastes incredible, but I've just bitten on something hard. Delicious Thai food! A bit pricy but if you go in a group and share a couple of items, it's not too bad. My party of 3 came for Sunday dinner around 6 pm after hiking in the redwoods nearby. My friend has a dog so we sat outside in their parklet. It got a bit chilly as we were eating, but it was manageable with a jacket. It took us forever to get seated. I called beforehand to make sure dogs were okay, and they said they would have a table ready for us when we arrived 15 minutes later. We arrived on time, and it was another 15 minute wait until our table was ready. I honestly think they just forgot about us for a while; we eventually had to check in with them again and then they set up our table. Perhaps they were a bit short staffed as the hostess was running the restaurant around helping customers and was gone from the front area for a while. They have their permanent offerings on the menu as well as some monthly specials. Since it was our first time here, we stuck to the regular items. We shared: Hat yat fried chicken ($32.45) - my favorite dish! The fried chicken was super crunchy on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. It also comes with a scoop of rice with yellow curry Vegetarian yellow curry ($19.95) - this was pretty good, but I wish it came with rice. We had to order a bowl of jasmine rice for $4 Chicken pad see you ($19.95) - another delicious dish! It came out piping hot, so you know it's fresh from the wok. My other two friends enjoyed this dish the most Our meal here was exactly what we needed after our hike. We were all starving, but this place hit the spot. My friend and I had lunch here and both ordered the luncheon special, paying extra for the fried chicken entrée. The appetizers, soup, and salad were tasty and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the fried chicken was a real disappointment. To my surprise, it was boneless--something I've never found satisfying in a fried chicken thigh--and the patty itself was heavily breaded. Nowhere on the menu did it mention the chicken would be boneless. To top it off, when my friend asked for a little more curry sauce, the server said it would count as an additional side dish for $8. Hat Yai Chicken: everything on the plate has a good flavor and texture. The fried chicken itself was deliciously crispy, but lacked any real flavor on its own. I dipped in the sweet and sour sauce in the middle of the plate. The roti on top was buttery and crispy, and the crinkled shape added extra layers of texture. Rice was cooked well. Vegetables in the sweet and sour sauce also were nice, fresh, and crispy. HOWEVER, the star of the show was the yellow curry. So flavorful, sweet, umami, creamy, and slightly spicy, with no one flavor overpowering another. The potato in the middle was also tender and perfectly cooked. I would love to try more of their curry dishes when I come back. Elderflower Spritz: tasty! cute presentation and color (baby pink!) and when you drink from the glass the floral smell is noticeable. tastes like a slightly sweet floral wine for which I have no complaints. Thai Vacation: love the layers of coconut in this dish: coconut flakes, fresh coconut, coconut ice cream, and coconut sticky rice in a coconut half shell! The presentation also looks really cute with the little umbrella. Only complaint is that the sticky rice is a little chewier than a typical coconut milk sticky rice. Not sure if it was cooked this way or if it's a result of the cold ice cream directly on top of it. Tbh, it made it really tedious to eat and I did not finish it. Hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars. The food was good, but there were some unpleasant bad things. Why 3 stars? We were three people. We ordered 3 mains. Mine came sizzling to the table. My husband's did not come for another 10 minutes. What? Then my daughter's took ANOTHER 10 min. That's just really bad planning/service. We came to eat together, and we are not eating family style. The prices are high. For that, I usually don't mark down, and I have not really marked down for that here, but you should know that this is pricey Thai food. Perhaps this is because the rent is high in this area? $119 for 3 mains. The sizes are good but not like serving more than one person large. We might have tried the desserts but--wow--$17 for a dessert? And we asked about the size. They said it was a normal, single serving. My daughter ate about half of her meal and asked for the remainder to be packed up. They ONLY included the chicken in her take-away box, not the side salad of cucumbers or the rice or the side sauce. $40 for chicken, rice, and cucumbers is a lot. Why wouldn't they give me all my remaining food to go??? Is the 25 cents for some small containers too much for them? Or do they not think their sides are worth saving? But the good: The food is yummy and the gluten-free items appeared to be actually gluten free. The Khao Soi special tasted just like we had in Thailand. If you like spicy, they have actual spicy. The vibes are nice. As you can see from the pictures, it's all very aesthetic. Plastic flower arrangements hang from the ceiling. The tables stand on old Singer brand sewing machine table legs. The dish ware is from Anthropologie. The service was pleasant. We had a variety of different servers (3 I think?) rather than just one person all night. They were all friendly. they do not wear uniforms or anything that identifies them as a server. They brought water promptly, kept our glasses full, and even brought my service dog a cup of water without me asking, which was very nice of them. Despite us all ordering at the same time, our dishes came out at very different times. There was about a 15 minute wait between each dish coming out. Not ideal. FOOD Now the menu and stuff. Prices are STEEP. This is the most I've ever paid for Thai food in my LIFE-- our bill was over 110$ for three people (one dish each). But the food was good. Large portions, strong and bold flavors, and the meat was cooked excellently. I liked how the dishes were well rounded meals, with veggies and meat and rice. We were really lucky to find street parking across the restaurant. Food: 4.5/5 - Everything looks so good so we wanted to try everything! The tom yum fried rice was a crowd favorite. Plenty of seafood (the scallop was HUGE) and young coconut chunks tossed in which really elevates the fried rice. The beef salad (Yum Neua) was very fragrant and the beef was tender. There was a small kick from the spice but my family liked it. Our least favorite dish was the chicken noodle soup (no spicy). It was pretty bland but I think it's due to us ordering it with no spice. Price: 3.5/5 - Not the most affordable Thai food restaurant out there but the ingredients used were of quality. Environment: 5/5 - Cute vibes. Perfect for a lunch date with friends! Floral decors are always my favorite. Service: 5/5 - Staff was friendly and attentive. They did come to check up on my party a couple times during our meal. The servers also helped us packed up our left overs for us to take home. Overall, 100% would recommend to try at least once if you are around the area. New Mexico is the "Land of Enchantment." Thailand is the "Land of Smiles." New Mexico is indeed enchanting and any time in Thailand is enough time to understand why it's called what it's called. This short celebration is not about New Mexico, however. It's about Daughter Thai. There could be a sub-heading on their material. It would say "We will give you something to smile about ..." And they will. One of the blessings that comes with living in or visiting the Bay Area is an abundance of Thai cuisine. Northern, Southern, street, farm to table, on and on. So much of it is so good. Some of the best food I've eaten is from pots on corners in Chaing Mai, where selections are selected by me pointing and the smiling friendly cook saying no please don't you'll burn your face off. Then me getting it anyway and burning my face off bc a face is a small price to pay for such deliciousness. Daughter and her related restaurants other places are not pots of corners. They're countrypeople in the kitchen and Thai in the front of the thoughtfully decorated fun lighthearted spaces. Instragram-worthy shots can be made here, but the decor is not cloyingly just for the IG. The experience instead is decorated to accompany you enjoying a really delicious meal. There is something for everybody regardless of tastes or pocketbook capacity. That said, you can empty your pocketbook more quickly here than at other establishments but as you elect to do this you cogitate on the difference between value and price, and how getting what you pay for is an immersive experience. When you consider this, Daughter and her brethren become a staple in your rotation. The Montclair location is smaller than some of their others but so cozy and happy.
