First time dining at Davani's (outside of a corporate event) and had a wonderful experience. We had dinner reservations for 4 on a Saturday night and arrived early around 6:45. We had intended to sit at the bar and have a few drinks before dinner. We were greeted and did find a spot at the bar. To my pleasant surprise, they had a nice bar that was not limited to beer and wine. Sometimes hard to find at an established Italian restaurant. We leaned towards the classic cocktails...I had a Negroni and my husband had a Manhattan. After about 20 minutes at the bar we were told our table was ready. This was about 30 minutes prior to our actual reservation and the place was packed. Service was friendly and the food was prompt. We got the bill at the end of dinner and I was actually shocked. My husband and I had a few drinks, appetizer, salad, two entrees and a dessert for a little over $100. Extremely reasonable for the atmosphere, service, food and drinks. Michelle was our server, fantastic! She was delightfully personable & attentive without hovering. Atmosphere was perfect for a celebratory date night. Food - Tuna tartar (hint of heat with siracha) & Bacon & Blue Shrimp appetizers were lick your plate good. My husband ordered the duck. I believe the sauce was cranberry and there were candies hazelnuts. The flavors were unique & perfectly paired. I had the fresh catch (Triple Tail) served with a polenta cake & veggies. If you can get anything with the polenta cake, do! Fish was cooked perfectly. Portions were just right when apps included and we were hungry. DESSERT - Save room! I can't remember what it was called but Oreo crust, chocolate mousse, whipped cream and candies hazelnuts. From the small, limp salads, the cold bisque, and over cooked steaks to the unbelievably rude customer service from the OWNER, this restaurant is off my list. After a very strong recommendation from my roommate, I took my girlfriend to Davani's for her birthday. Some things were great, some, not so much. The good: Appetizers - get the lobster bisque, it is so good and creamy and we basically licked the bowl. The tuna tartare is delicious as well and you get a generous amount for what you pay for. The interior is decorated so well and looks like an impressive space. The bad: This was our first time at a nice restaurant like this, and our server did absolutely nothing to make us feel comfortable or like he even wanted us there. I had mentioned it was my girlfriend's birthday when making the reservation, and he checked both of our IDs for the wine we ordered. I don't expect special treatment because we were there for a birthday, but the table beside us had someone there with a birthday as well and they got free dessert. The entree was just okay. We had the veal oscar and think we would have liked something else much better. nothing about the dish really wowed us. All in all, I think we will be back, but we now know what to order and what we will be passing on. read more

We had an issue with our order accuracy. Ordered lamb chops without the pepper jelly but they arrived with the pepper jelly. The server even noted it when he put them on the table. We sent them back and they returned them again with less pepper jelly. It was clear they had just wiped the chops off. There was even pepper jelly still on the plate! The kitchen had just tried to wipe the plate clean. We sent it back again, thinking we would get a new set of chops but we got a new plate with the same (now cold) chops on the plate. Didn't eat the chops and no refund or discount was offered. Lasagna was 8/10. Good but not great. Steak was 7/10. Good for a non steak house. Caesar salad was 9/10. Very good. We won't return since the lamb chops were handled so poorly. If they can't just replace out the chops with fresh ones, they shouldn't be in business. HORRIBLE experience! We thought there was a special New Years menu because that's what showed on the website but when we got there they claimed they knew nothing about it. Not sure how that happens, but no big deal we ordered off the menu. Lobster bisque was awful - brown and Luke warm - so not a good start there. Two people in our group ordered steak medium rare and it came out well done and cold. Owner wasn't interested in making things right but eventually took those dishes off the bill (that we waited almost an hour for bc no one wanted to come back to our table). I had to go up to the bar to get The owner, Stephanie, to come to our table since we had been waiting for an hour for the bill. As we were telling her about the bad experience, her husband came over and asked her why she was talking to us and then actually said loudly, "fuck them." Crazy! I actually have enjoyed this restaurant previously. But, this last visit I had to give it 3 Stars. Over cooked salmon, cold lobster bisque, cold creamed corned, and not so warm bread let me down. For a fine dining establishment, there are just certain things you just can't afford to get wrong. Server was outstanding! The Owner did the requisite "table touches" but was not hovering over us while we ate and talked. Music was not too loud which made it easy to have a conversation at a table of 6. A surprisingly outstanding restaurant in a strip mall of all places. Decor and ambience is outstanding as is their menu. While the prices reflect quality, they are not out of line with other local fine dining establishments in Greenville area. Davani's was recommended by two local friends who also rated them 5 stars. This is a nice place. I'm not a big fan of Italian restaurants. There's something about paying $24 for $0.49 of dressed up pasta that bothers me. Having said that, it's clearly a successful business model and can potentially be done right. Davanis is done right and is a lot more than pasta. I've been here a couple of times now and so far the food has been excellent. The first time I had the duck. Loved the duck. Sun dried cherries and pan seared duck, medium rare. How can you wrong? My trip back, I went with my daughter. The place was packed. We didn't have a reservation. It was the third restaurant we tried that night - we started out looking downtown. The first two simply turned us away. At Davanis, they had one little table left and let us have it. They were over the top nice - in spite of being over the top busy. I really appreciate that. I had the veal parm. It's a lot of food - good food. Yes it's over pasta but I actually loved it. My daughter also had pasta, Penne alla Vodka. She's little and as much as she liked it could only get through about a third of her dish. It was huge. The sausage on that was terrific. The owner checked on us twice, his wife once. The server was attentive. I couldn't find fault with it. Oh yes, there is a TV by the bar. Can't drink without that. read more

Based on reviews from my fellow Yelpers, I chose Davani's for my girlfriend's birthday. We started with the escargot en croute and a couple glasses of wine. The escargot was excellent. I ordered the two crab cakes as an entree and my girlfriend ordered the veal parmigiana. She liked my crab cakes so much that I offered to trade (it is her birthday, after all). The risotto served with the crab cakes was a perfect accompaniment. The veal was good but not great. It wasn't as tender as one might have hoped. What the veal lacked in inspiration, it made up in sheer volume. The portion was enormous. The veal wouldn't be my first choice if I were to eat here again. We were too stuffed for dessert. Our server was knowledgeable and very polite, and did not dote. Service was a touch on the slow side. I presume this was due to everything being freshly prepared. The only reason I didn't write a review sooner is because every time I eat at Davanis I'm in such a blissful state of euphoria I often forget about trivial things in life like Yelp reviews etc etc That being said, this is one of my favorite Italian restraunts in the county, and the best in upstate SC by a wide margin. I've never had anything bad on the menu, or off the menu. The baked Brie is outrageous, the vodka penne rivals my own recipe that I've been perfecting for 10+yrs, the catch of the day never disappoints, the tiramisu is killer. I could go on and on, but now I'm hungry. Ask for Leonard as your server. Everyone there is good, but he's the best and he knows exactly what we want when we come in. read more

Davani's Restaurant, 1922 Augusta Street, date of visit: Friday, May 10, 8:15 p.m. FOOD I ordered the Chicken Française, one of the night's specials at the recommendation of our waitress. The chicken was tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. It was served with asparagus that retained a firm bite and also served with savory potatoes. When requesting a wine recommendation, the manager came to our table, and he helped us select the Carmel Road pinot noir from Montery, California. The wine was a lovely complement to our meal. I found the portion sizes to be generous, and I was pleased that the waitress offered to bring boxes for us to take home the rest. For dessert, I ordered the Chocolate Marquis, a large wedge of chocolate mousse heaven on an Oreo toffee crust. I could not have been happier with the quality of the presentation, texture, and flavor of my meal. SERVICE Our waitress was patient and attentive without being overbearing. The timing of the courses was perfect. Since our table was celebrating, our waitress served dessert with a lit candle which brought smiles to our table. ATMOSPHERE The interior space is long and a bit narrow. There are images of tastefully sensual women on the wall, and the space is softly/dimly lit. When we first arrived for our reservation, the restaurant was quite full, so it was necessary to speak loudly to hear each other, but as the night went on, this eased. The white tablecloths and top-notch service definitely give the restaurant a posh feel, yet it manages to lack pretension that would make one uncomfortable. The exterior space is situated in a shopping complex, so the parking lot does not offer an ideal vista, but the restaurant is conveniently located and the exterior does not significantly detract from the experience. Have loved this place in the past, so hate that I have to give this review. Sat at the bar so maybe that was part of the problem. Asked for menu and 45 minutes later we finally had to ask for our order to be taken. Placed our order and was 50 minutes later that we received it. My wife had the chicken piccata that was very good. I had the penne ala vodka which I have ordered on 2 previous occasions and it was not good. It was as if it were reheated, pasta was pasty and whole dish was gluey. We both had caesar salad and they were tiny, overdressed and limp lettuce. The salads were overpriced at any price due to quality but at $9.00 these tiny things were pitiful. read more

Have been here several times an although pricey the atmosphere and food are consistently excellent. My favorite is the :Filet Mignon (8 oz center cut aged angus beef tenderloin with mushroom bordelaise sauce) very tender and the wedge salad is a great compliment. It has Crisp iceberg, tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese, apple wood smoked bacon & buttermilk bleu cheese dressing to die for. I leave too full for dessert. First time eating here last night. We ordered the porcIni ravioli appetizer. It was only ok. The edges of the ravioli were hard and tough and the sauC3 bland and thIn. Didn't enjoy as much as we'd hoped. The table bread was very soft, warm and tasty. My husband enjoyed hIs lasagna, and finished the leftovers today. My chicken Oscar was tasty and came with two lighTly bReaded chIcken breast with risotto, broccolini, and asparagus. There was not enough Oscar sauce, maybe 2 tablespoons total, but I don't think it was even that much, so that was disappointing. The chocolate marquis pie for dessert was excellent, not overly sweet. Service was pretty good although our waitress did disappear for long periods. She was kind enough to box our leftovers for us. I know restaurants want the ambience of a dark dining room, but this one was just too dark. We couldn't read the menu without using the flashlight on our phone. Honestly, I l am incredibly embarrassed and disappointed by the level of disservice from my most recent server and the owner of this restaurant. Mind you, I am visually impaired so I cannot drive and happened to lose my state ID which is why I brought my passport. After being sat, my boyfriend was carded first and then I was carded and she skimmed my passport for 30 seconds to tell me that my passport was expired. Then she tells the owner that and then proceeds to tell us that the owner wanted our waitress to check my boyfriend's drivers' license again. By that point we are both mortified and made the decision to exit the restaurant. While I am in the car on the way to find somewhere to eat dinner and I double check and MY PASSPORT EXPIRES IN 2027. On top of that, my boyfriend and I are both 25 and 26 years old well over the drinking age. Not only do I want to address that this is HARASSMENT, but they have lost several customers because I will never go back or speak highly of this restaurant to anyone again. I celebrated my 26th birthday there and several dinners since then and have never had an issue up to this point. My biggest advice to the owner 1) train your wait staff on how to properly check all forms of identification 2) be courteous enough to address situations directly with your customers. read more

Atmosphere and decor is the best in all Greenville, both masculine and elegant. Shame though that the stuffed mushrooms, although good, were very small and a total of 3 per order at 8 bucks; try splitting that. Also, oysters were good, but another odd number at 5...very strange and stingy. Chicken parm was great portion and the best deal, cooked perfectly, however the sauce had little kick to it and I wasn't crazy about the angel hair pasta. I have been here once, 6 + months back but remember it being worth a return trip. I recall the vodka sauce with sausage as being a true crowd pleaser, and the chicken dish we ordered paled in comparison. The caprese salad to start was definitely a hit, and the Chocolate Marquiz was worth splitting. My husband is very discerning when it comes to Italian (being a NY Italian) but was a fan of this spot.
