I had a difficult repair to do on my beach cruiser, and tried to fix it myself, but was unable to. I took it to Dave's and they were really friendly, and got to work on it right away. Charged me $218 to tune up my bike. 3 months later (with VERY little use) the shift cable snaps. Manager claims I "gave him a hard time" when in reality I asked if I'd get charged to replace the cable. Dave returns the bike to me incomplete and says I'll get better service when I'm not "giving his manager" a hard time. Do NOT waste your time and money on this failed establishment you will be sorely disappointed. Old man Dave must be losing his marbles poor fella needs to retire. Back in March 2015 I bought a bike off of craigslist. It was a good deal but driving up to Ukiah would take about 6 hours round trip so I worked with the buyer to get a bike shop to ship it to me. He recommended Dave's Bike Shop since that was the closest shop to his house. The guy I dealt with John Minsinger is super dishonest. He said he'd ship it out right away, but then a week went by and it still wasn't shipped. He said the cost would be $60 plus UPS charges. Then he sends me this email: Hi, So in packing the bike we have discovered it doesn't fit into normal bike boxes. We have specialty boxes available for $40 so with packing, box, and freight were getting close to $150. John Minsinger Dave's Bike Shop 707-462-3230 This is total fiction. There is no "speciality box." They get their boxes for free since that's how the bike companies send bikes to the retailers. I then call him and tell him that and then he back pedals and says, "we have to pay extra for storage of the boxes." What? You're kidding right? He just wanted to get an extra $50-$60 out of the deal and knew my alternative was to drive up there. I reluctantly agreed since I didn't have much of an alternative. Then when I receive the bike, John removed the tires from the wheels and removed the headset and stem. What? I now have to pay to remount the tires and the reinstall the headset and stem. He also used a road bike box and not a mountain bike box for some odd reason. This guy is dishonest. He also doesn't know how to pack a bike up for shipping properly costing the receiver extra money and time to get the bike reassembled. Why take off the tires? It's more work for him and me and it would have fit into the box with the tires on. Luckily I ended up selling the bike a few months later for what I paid for it. Bottom line: Avoid this bike shop! They lied and overcharged me and then didn't even pack the bike properly! 0 stars. I should have filed a BBB complaint. I think I will. read more

Just went in to Dave's bile shop for the first time ever, to fill up my bike tires with some air, asked the employee if he could tell me a bit about my bike, as it was gifted to me and had all these bells and whistles I was unfamiliar with, he was monotone and rude. The store was empty as well. I felt as if I was not welcome. I wanted to get a helmet as well as I have not biked on a mountain bike before and had been years since I rode a bike. He could have taken the opportunity to up sell something like my helmet or perhaps something else that could be useful for my rides. I decided to leave and buy my helmet elsewhere. It's a shame. What I got was great customer service, a free map, and some very good directions on some local rides with the wine country in the background. Today, my daughters bike needed the front wheel re attached, I'm not good with little jobs like this and was happy to pay a professional. When I call to talk to manager he was just as rude and said he needed to side with his staff. Very bad customer service. Called a store in Santa Rosa and they said come on down we will give you a box and packing material. I never mentioned to the Santa Rosa store where I was from or my experience with Dave's Bike Shop. Dave's Bike Shop is a great local shop! Dave and John are always very helpful and willing to work with you. I too read the sign " $60 an hour, or $20 a question", I thought this was hilarious and had a $20 out when I went back to talk to John. Clearly a joke, and perhaps misunderstood, because its a bike shop "inside" joke; mechanics do every thing they can to get bikes turned around as quickly as possible but they are also supposed to be "accessible" and "sociable", its a tough ask. Dave knows a lot about the bike scene in the surrounding area and is always willing to share tips for your safe and enjoyable rides. He also sponsors and SAGs local century rides. This of course means John sat at Comptche School in 90-100 degree heat on a Sunday helping folks with bike issues during the Mendocino Monster 2014. I've now been frequenting this shop the last several months and have never experienced poor customer service. It s a tough business in a small town where you have to be everything to everybody and I think they are doing a great job. So do try and stay local, they will always try to earn your business!! We were complete newbies when we went into Dave's Bike Shop to talk to John about getting e-bikes. He was so helpful in explaining all of the options, listening to the kind of features we did and didn't care about, and the kind of riding we'd be doing. He was extremely fair on pricing, and he spent lots of time with us explaining the ins and outs of our new bikes, which were ready exactly on time. John and Dave clearly love bikes and are very happy to answer questions. I talked to John several times after we got our bikes to ask about other equipment, and it was always a great pleasure. Dave's Bikes did bike repair at every rest stop of the Mendocino Scary Monster Century, even had bike stands out at the start of the ride. I had just bought a bike at the last minute because I found my frame broken once I got to Ukiah, and the new one was shifting weird. Dave bent my derailleur hanger into position so the bike shifted perfectly, and they went over it carefully as the shop I bought it from isn't really a bike shop, more of a sporting goods store. I am so grateful to everybody at Dave's bike shop! They were absolutely AMAZING! Recently I moved to Mexico and use my bike as my mode of transport. I cycle about 4 hrs a day on and off road. The quality of your bike there really makes or breaks your experience. This being said, at Dave's bike shop they took so much time and had never-ending patience with me finding my perfect bike. I took my bike in and was quoted $55-$65 by Dave himself When I went to go get my bike I had to surprisingly pay $87...the excuse was SHOP FEES!...I'm sorry but when you give someone a quote then that's it there should be no hidden fees...all they had to do was slime 2 tires..I had planned on buying a $1400 Trek from good ol Dave but because of this and his refusal to make things right I refuse to ever go back...So much for staying local...Jerk! You don't even deserve the 1 star I'm forced to mark on this sight ! read more

Nothing but good things to say about the service I got at Dave's. I was riding a 200k brevet from Healdsburg and on the way from Boonville to Ukiah I broke a spoke on the climbing section. I have Mavic flat spoked wheels and the broken spoke put my wheel way out of true and rubbed on brakes and frame. I managed to me it barely rideable and got to Ukiah and asked a local for a close bike shop. I was directed to Dave's. The immediately stopped work on another bike to help me out. They did not have a replacement spoke (not surprising) but did true my wheel and sell me a replacement tire (side wall worn through from rubbing for 12 miles). This was great service!!! I would say that the best however was that they said that if they could not make my bike rideable that they would drive me back to Healdsburg, a one way drive of about 40 miles. They did get me back on the road, with any rubbing and I was able to complete the final 55 miles of the brevet. Thank you so much, Dave's Bike Shop. read more

Dave's was refered to me by a bike shop down the street where the people were very nice and helpful but didn't have the parts I needed. I then went to daves shop which had 2 younger guys who were very nice but couldn't answer a question I had. One of them went to an older man who was working on a bike in the rear of the store and told him that I had a question that they couldn't answer. The man told the kid in a very frustrated and loud manner that he didn't have time to deal with this question. He didn't have time to look towards me and tell me that himself, I was 15 feet away. He couldn't give me 10 seconds of time to tell me he would help me some other day or another time. This was the first time I've been to his shop and last time. read more
