Dealing with the owner, Liem, is like dealing with your uncle. I went in there after reading the review on Yelp. Liem quoted me by far the best price I found (before seeing Liem, I already got quotes from several other Yelp recommended shops). I mean, the competition was not even close. I gave Liem my car key and phone number. A total of 2 minutes later I was out of there. I went back 24 hours later, the car was in brand new condition. I cannot even tell which side the original damage was on. Honestly, what more can I ask. Now, if only there are more people on earth like this guy . . . In short, you can't go wrong. read more

I don't normally write yelp reviews but I had to give feedback about this shop. If I could give negative stars I would. I took my car to get an estimate after being rear ended and all the other 4 shops I went to knew better than to open my trunk (since they all knew it wouldn't close properly after doing that). Unfortunately, the guy at this shop decided to open it before I could stop him and so he had to tie it up with rope which meant the rain got into my trunk AND I had to undo the battery when it wasn't running since the trunk light was on. So much for a free estimate, it was more trouble than it was worth and I was so annoyed afterwards. read more

Visited 5 different body shops for an estimate on my daughters Lexus Rx300 which she sheered the side off. I did not have collision on the car (not smart me) so had to pay out of pocket. One place told me to salvage the car. I have some moderate mechanics background and knew that the RX could be an auto Resurrection! So did some foot work. Took the RX to Yarnells to fix the suspension which they did a great job on.... see other review. Then visited a 4 other shops for estimates telling them I was paying cash and that I would do some of the labor to tear down the damaged panels and trim and buy some of the parts (headlights and tail lights off of Ebay). Well seeing the YELP review I brought the RX to Liam. This dude rocks! He was straight forward with what needed to be done. talked me out of replacing parts with an aftermarket body kit, but I talked him in to some custom painting to change the RX from two tone white/gold to all white. Well being very patient and supplying some of the parts I purchased myself... he did the job for half of what other shops wanted.The fit and finish and the paint looks awesome. Recommend this local shop for those looking for quality work at a respectable and honest price. 5 gold stars! read more

A while back, I had a fender-bender in my Geo Metro, and was afraid it would cost more than the value of the car to fix it -- the hood was bent, the bumper torn, the headlight broken, the radiator-support bent, and the radiator leaking. I found the reviews here, and when I was towing it home on a U-Haul trailer, I stopped by Dave's for a quote. Everything was just as promised in the reviews. Liem was very friendly and glad to walk down the block with me to where I'd found parking for a car on a trailer, took some notes back to the office, looked up parts prices on his computer, and in 10 minutes gave me a quote -- two quotes, actually, one for "GM parts" and one for "Taiwan parts" (the genuine GM parts are usually lots more expensive and he thought it would be more than I wanted to pay, but he wanted to make sure he was right about that). The prices were clearly very reasonable; for instance, he was sure the bent radiator support could just be pulled out with no trouble and barely included any time for that, and he didn't charge me anything for installing the new radiator. So, we agreed on the Taiwan-parts quote, he drove the car from the trailer back to his shop, and he promised he'd have it done in 10 days. A week later, he called, and it was done. He even charged me a little less than what he'd quoted. As for quality of the work: I have absolutely no complaints -- my first impression was that the car was as good as new, and even with a close inspection it still looks pretty much that way. The parts that needed unbending and a touch of Bondo are completely smooth; the paint matches exactly, and I'd be hard-pressed to see where the radiator support was bent in the first place. The panel joints aren't all perfect, I suppose, but I doubt they were from the factory and I wouldn't have wanted to pay for the hours it would have taken to align them anyway. read more

I was rear ended and had to replace my bumper. I went to a highly-recommended place down the street and their estimate was $1500, ready in 1.5 weeks. Dave quoted $475, ready in 4 days, and he got it done in 2 days instead. Can't really ask for a better experience than that. read more

We just moved to Mountain View and were looking for a reputable auto body repair shop to have work done on several cars. We read so many good reviews on yelp regarding Daves body shop that we brought one of our cars in for a quote. The price for the work was $250. The price seemed high so we went down the street to get another quote which was very close to the quote Daves body shop gave us. We went back to Daves as we wanted to go with Daves because they seemed honest about the price from the start. This was on Monday and we told them that we needed the car back by Friday. They said that was no problem, they just needed to get the part ordered and that they would call us when they got the part so we could bring in the car to have the work done. By Tuesday evening we had not heard from them so we called and were told that (again) we would get a call when the part came in. Wednesday, same thing happened. On Thursday afternoon (the day before we were told the car would be done) we got a call from them saying that the part would cost $110 which was almost five times the cost we were told it would be... they only order from the dealership and so it was more than ordering from an online parts store. Why didn't they tell us this on Monday or maybe Tuesday? Why did they wait until Thursday to call to us to tell us about the price and where they were ordering the part from? If they said that they would call us when the part came in then you would assume that means that the part was ordered...right? Well why would they call on Thursday to tell us what the price would be if they ordered it... this means they never ordered it to begin with! They were blatantly lying to us on Tuesday and Wednesday by saying that they would call us when the part came in. They never ordered the part! If we knew we were going to get the runaround, such poor service and be lied to as well as not get the car fixed by Friday we never would have went there in the first place! They're lack of empathy for our frustration was unbelievable!! No apologies, no concern, nothing!!! We will never give our business to Daves body shop and we will go out of our way to warn everyone in Mountain View that this company is not as professional as all the yelp reviews say it is. We ended up going to Bedford autobody ( in the same building) The entire repair was $80 and was done on Friday! $20 for the part and $60 for the work. How could we get such better service and prices for the same repair? Because Daves body shop is not as good as the yelp reviews say it is... and Bedford autobody is just simply a better, more honest and fair company!! We will be writing a 5 star review on Bedford autobody giving the details of how we got such great service with Bedford autobody. Yelp readers beware of Daves body shop on Old Middlefield Way... they are over-priced and have a blatant disregard for their own lack of communication. Great experience going here. I have an old minivan where the sliding door wouldn't shut. Since it was old I didn't want to spend a lot of money to fix it, but after bringing it in they fix it up to working condition in an hour on the cheap. Great experience and was exactly what I wanted. read more

I was searching for the highest rated auto body shops around mountain view/palo alto and ended up picking out three shops that I would get quotes from. After the first two shops gave me quotes that exceeded my budget, I was not feeling great going into Dave's to get my last quote. Wow I was wrong, after about 10 mins, Liam had quoted my car and at a price that was 55% lower than the two other shops. Obviously, I could not say no, so I told him to work his magic and left the car. However, since the quote was so much lower than all the others, I was still kind of nervous about the quality of work. Again, Liam proved me wrong. When he called to tell me the car was ready I was surprised to see that it looked better than new. This was a pretty bad accident, and I would be completely shocked if anyone would be able to tell that anything happened to the car. By far the best auto body repair that I have ever seen, and unfortunately, I have seen my fair share. A fantastic shop, I hope to not have to visit again, but if something does happen I know exactly where I can find high end service for a great price. Thank you Liam! Quick and straightforward service. Liem, delivers what he says he will on time. For the price you pay you get excellent service and quality. The price/performance ratio is best in town. Liem fixes only what needs to be fixed he doesn't try to upsell you. A body shop down the street, not a fancy place at all, gave me the 'minimum repair' quote that was 3 times higher than what Dave's Body Shop gave me. You also have a choice of parts - dealer or no-dealer parts. Overall I'd go to Dave's again for anything body shop related. If you have a super nice car and you care about having Starbucks served on-site and a nice leather couch to sit on while you wait this may not be a place for you but if you just want to get a body shop related problem fixed quickly, in good quality, and with no "BS" this is your place. read more

He may be ok for minor jobs but his work on my Lexus was definitely very poor. His initial estimate was $2,500. Once he figured out my insurance is covering the expenses, he ended up charging close to $6,700 at the end - very tricky. He painted the front side of the car, which faded less than a year later. read more

The top of my front bumper was sticking out from the frame of the car... I must have scraped a curb or something (OY) and the metal loop that held the screw to the frame ripped. There was also some black scrape marks on the bumper. I thought the owner's name was Dave, but reading other posts here, it is Liem. He was very nice and helpful. He made 2 offers. For $40 he would attach the bumper to a rubber skirt that was attached to the frame, or for $600, he would take the bumper off, paint it, weld the screw loop that ripped, and secure the bumper with additional screws. I chose the latter, as I thought it was more secure in the long run, and I wanted to fix the scraps on the bottom of the bumper. He told me it would take 3 days. On day 2 in the afternoon, I get a call that the car is ready! I looked brand new. I was really impressed. Here is a really honest place, with really reasonable prices, that does excellent work. I expected to schedule and appointment and come back. He said he could do it right then. I sat in his office and read a book. 30 minutes later, all done. I love this guy! I took my car to Shop A for a quote and it was close to $1400. Our bumper in front had come detached on one side from catching on n a curb and some of the plastic clips which hold it in place were broken off. Shop A said that whole thing needed replacing. They also had me waiting for a few weeks before I could get the car in and said I would have to leave it for a whole week. Based on yelp reviews I went to see Dave - he proposed an alternate, - and very secure way - to reattach the bumper and the fix is not visible - you would have to look under the car. The fix is perfect - you can't even tell anything happened. Dave only charged me $40 bucks and it took him about 10 minutes. read more

The work was flawless. . .now other shops can accomplish that, but they do it with attitude and extra charges. Liem was super friendly, got the job done on schedule at the best price, and did a lot of extra work, touching up scratches and scrapes, and included that in the price. We were looking for a place to fix our car's front door and wherever we would go, they would come with a $2500 and a week of work response. We went to Dave's by chance, as we were checking another shop in the entrance to Dave's shop (BTW, the first guy said that he would call us back... still waiting.). Right choice: I am glad we found him. He would need 3 days to do the work, I rather have the car during the week. He thought and said: "ok, bring me the car on a Thursday morning and I can get it back to you Saturday. So you only will stay without your car for 2 days and can get it back for the weekend." Deal. Took the car in on a Thursday, by 9AM. The car was ready Saturday by 10AM. Sweet. And the work was pretty fine. I don't know what they do if you pay $2500 for the same work... maybe the door closes by itself, maybe it doens't smash your fingers when you forget to take them out of the way when you close the door (ouch!), but Dave's work was good and clean. After getting estimates at 5 auto body shops, Liam was the hands down choice!! The back bumper on my Lexus was all scratched up from the garage door closing and scraping on it. Liam did a FABULOUS job and it looks like new!! He also washes the cars to find any other spots that might need a touch up with the paint that he uses on the repair area. He worked on the seat belt that was not retracting and it works much better now. He reattached the plastic guard under the car at no extra charge. The work was done in the time he said it would be for the price he quoted! He does not nickel and dime you for any little extra thing. I would definitely return here if my cars need any further work. Had a minor fender bender which cracked my 2009 Audi front right corner bumper, headlight lens, bent the hood and right front fender in slightly. Got an estimate from Liam who was fair and straight forward in his estimate. Got a Second opinion from a family member at another body shop...lets just say it was more...way more. They wanted to replace everything with brand new fender and hood. I went the less expensive route and Dave's Auto Body(Liam) had exceeded my expectations. I had dented my front left fender so bad that it needed to be replaced. Liem at Dave's auto body not only gave me a price that was almost half the next best price I had received, he also did an amazing job. I had to ask him which side then dent was on when i came to collect the car because it was as good as new.....He also used all original dodge parts and paint on my car so that there was no question of a mismatch. He spent an hour nicely reinstalling the loose-hanging bumper better than new, and then would not accept payment, as he said that the U.S. government had helped him, an immigrant, and he wanted to help back. My 06 BMW X5 4.4 just got a new Curt Hitch today. It is awesome. According to DIY Hitch Installation in X5 forum, it is difficult task and takes at least 3 hrs. You definitely need two people to pull the bumper out and puts the bumper back in, it's heavy for me. I could not do it by myself. My X5 has PDC, and I definitely need to ask my friend, owner at Dave's body shop for help. It took us 3 1/2 hour to install the Curt Hitch after market $177 hitch including delivery to my house. 2006*BMW*X5*Draw-Tite, Reese, Hidden Hitch, Valley and Curt search with the*Hitch Hunter ™ by etrailer.com (800) 298-8924. I only need this hitch to mount my 2" Thule bike rack. I'm happy with Curt Hitch and the installation from Dave's body shop in Palo Alto/Mountain View. I just like to share my new Curt hitch X5 experience . When I bought my car in 06, the hitch installation was so expensive. So I skipped this BMW hitch and I intended to do DIY later. I have called all BMW in the bay area about BMW X5 hitch since last year, and learned that it's back order for 6 months. I can not wait any more, I was a little skeptical about Curt Hitch after maket hitch. Somebody in the forum mentioned that the new Curt hitch for X5 is better made now. For carrying bike, Curt Hitch is excellent hitch, and it is cheaper than BMW hitch by far. Hitch and the cost of hitch installation are still less than $400. For those of you in the bay area, you can be confidence to have Curt hitch and installation at Dave's body shop. Enjoy your hitch. read more

We found Liem via Yelp after reading so many good reviews. He really proved himself! We have a van with a bent front bumper. Liem had it done in a day. I went to pick up the van and found out Liem also touched up quite a few scratches on the back of the van. That's really nice so I thought. When I was ready to leave, I mentioned to Liem that the window on the left side makes a weird noise when opening. I didn't think that he would do much but what a surprise! He tried a few things to figure out what might be round, and in just three minutes he told me he knew what the problem was. While the van was sitting outside of his office, he took some tools, opened up the inside of the left door, and fixed the mechanical issue that caused the noise. All in all it took about 10 minutes and the noise is gone! Liem did all of this without extra charge. He will be the go-to guy for my next car problem! read more
