I love how Dave's can make me a gluten-free dairy-free breakfast sandwich fast and in a pinch. I would definitely say that it's all cooked in the same places, so be careful with allergies, but I appreciate the option if needed. The family loves the food, which is consistently good. This restaurant is always very busy, and it can be loud. There's parking right out front and extends into the Tops Markets parking lot. Affordable prices and friendly staff. Daves Diner seems like a popular breakfast spot in the local area. There was a wait on Sunday morning but luckily it moved quickly. It's small inside but definitely quaint. Service was great and efficient. I ordered a ham & cheese omelette but it was really lacking in the cheese area. The potatoes were excellent and seasoned perfectly. Great little diner right in the middle of town. I've driven past Dave's Diner 100's of time and decided today was tge day, I'm glad I did. The service was quick and friendly and the food was good and a goid value for the money. I had a turkey club with fries. We stopped here on the recommendation of a local hotel staffer after checking out & on the way to check out some waterfalls. Place was hoppin' but there were a few tables open, so we were seated immediately. Looked like a lively group of regulars, so we knew we'd come to the right place ;) Our server was friendly & checked in on us often. Breakfast last Saturday with my sister. Upon entering was promptly assisted to a table by the waitress. The menu was pretty big for breakfast and lunch options. I settled on a waffle with eggs and bacon and my sister had an omelet with home fries. I was concerned when the waffle was brought to me because it was pretty dark but it was not over cooked but it didn't have the fluffy consistency of a great waffle. The eggs and bacon were perfect. I found this is a popular place in Manlius by chance driving around looking for some breakfast on a Sunday. Apparently the whole area knows they do a good job here of good food and service despite the crowds waiting in and outside to be seated. Your name and the number in your party goes on a list and they let you know when your table is ready whether your inside or outside waiting. Once in the waitstaff are quick to take your order. Coffee was brought right away and I looked through the menu of breakfast and lunch items. They also had specials posted on the wall. Something I would never attempt at home was on the menu, A favorite of mine, Egg Bennies served plain or with meat. I ordered them with bacon and they did a great job of crisp bacon and Hollandaise sauce. So if you're hungry for a good breakfast there are many choices on their menu and if I wasn't so hungry for protein I would've ordered the yum looking waffle covered with strawberries and whipped. We walked in and they just told us to sit wherever. No formality. She never came back with refills for drinks and she just didn't seem to care. We got our food and my breakfast sandwich was in pieces (see the picture for after I put it together). The cheese was full on liquid and I couldn't eat it. The bacon was just two full strips that I had to fold in. Then she gave us the bill before we ate and just stood around even though we were done for a while. Then we asked for boxes and she threw them on top of our food and left without a word. I don't recommend this Daves diner at all. read more

This is our go-to diner for breakfast and early lunch on the weekends. My husband and I drive all the way from Liverpool. Even though the restaurant is usually on a wait, we never wait long as the service is extremely efficient, getting people in and out quickly, but somehow you never feel rushed. As far as the food goes, there isn't one thing on the menu that we do not enjoy. My husband's favorite breakfast is a waffle with a side of sausage and coffee. For me, it depends on what I'm craving that day. If I'm in the mood for breakfast, I either create my own omelette or will order the French toast. Both always come out fresh and hot. Another favorite dish I like to order is the burger (my husband's second favorite meal). We often say to each other, "Let's go get a Cherie burger." There isn't actually a Cheri Burger; it's just the name we gave it, naming it after one of the owners. There are a few different options on the menu as far as toppings go, but I usually order the mushroom and Swiss. The bun and meat are always fresh and so are the French fries. Who would have thought a diner could make such a great burger!? Dave also offers to-go. Although we have never used this service, we are always taking our leftovers home because the portion sizes are decent, and sometimes we just can't finish it all. This is a nice diner with a small-town feel, good food, and great service. The turkey club was prepared well and they use "real" turkey, which makes a huge difference and makes it more flavorful. The clam roll was also a good choice- it had a mix of big clams and little clams. The portions were very hearty, too! The service wasn't attentive, but everyone was friendly. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the potatoes were hot, and the sausage was good. Unfortunately I felt very unwelcome at this diner. I'm a black woman in an interracial relationship and felt a stark contrast with how our table was waited on compared to others. The unwelcoming feeling was so palpable that my partner even mentioned how awkward our server made it. She completely forgot about our table at one point and didn't even come back to give us our check, someone else actually came to close us out. She gave no explanation. We've stopped in a few times, every few years to give it another shot, and always wish we'd not gone. It's mostly edible and nothing else. Their coffee is HORRIBLE. (Don't even order it because then it will take all day to get that funk out of the recesses of your mouth. Stop the at the gas station afterward.) Potatoes are cooked through but basically... they're boiled potatoes that have been diced and then briefly occupied the same pan as a few onion pieces. It's like dry potato salad without any spices or lubrication. Pancakes are rubbery. "Hollandaise" on the eggs benedict is revolting. (There are easy ways to make it https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/easy_blender_hollandaise_sauce/ but even straight dijon, pierced into the poached egg would be far superior to that horrible liquid on the eggs and toast.) The waitresses are great. We always leave a little sad that we went there, instead of driving to Denny's, and the price is far higher at Dave's. Denny's coffee is almost as bad but at least their food is properly cooked, seasoned, and costs a third less. read more

This may look like your average neighborhood diner but Dave's Diner is anything but! This place is wonderful for families, couples, or even by yourself for a quick bite to eat. Once you step in, you're welcomed by the servers and even the kitchen staff. They quickly get you seated and come right to you so you don't have to wait long. Even all the customers will say hello and discuss their day with you. The menu has such a variety of things to offer; the burgers are exceptional! You can grab breakfast all day long and the best part is, it's all cooked to order! This diner has wonderful service, the food is to die for, and the decor/atmosphere just makes it feel like a home away from home. I recommend this diner 10/10 times to all my friends and family. The people that work there are very kind but the food on the other hand has always been a bit of a let down. i've been to this location multiple times along with the dave's diner out in cazenovia. the one out in caz is much better, it seems to be newer, the food is always incredible and every single staff member is on top of everything. i've never had a bad experience at that location which isn't something i can say for the one in manlius. I have had hairs in my food, food that wasn't fully cooked or just overall mediocre food. maybe it's what i have ordered but unfortunately every time i've gone to this place it wasn't that great. again very nice people that work there but the food wasn't that good when compared to the cazenovia location. read more

I've tried this place 3 or 4 times because I live so close to it but everyone I've been dissatisfied. I just paid eleven+ dollars for a tiny fretta. It was supposed to have extra cheese which it literally had one slice of provalone in it. There were maybe 5 home fries in the whole thing. As somebody that was a cook for many years I doubt they get allot of return business. I'll never eat there again or recommend this place to anybody read more

I guess you stop trying when you're the only game in town. The food was typical diner fare: tasty but ordinary. We ordered Belgian waffles with a side of home fries. The waffles were okay, a bit skimpy on the whipped cream. The home fries were slightly better than average: lots of crispy pieces. What lowered their score from a 3 to a 2 is the service. We arrived around 1:15 on a Sunday, plenty of time before their 3pm closing hour but after the morning rush. The servers were inattentive and unhelpful. When I mentioned it was our first time there, our first server proceeded to explain how menus work and then just walked away. It was difficult to get coffee refills, and when the server did come over she spilled a few drops of coffee on my boyfriend's jeans. While we were still seated (a full 45 minutes before closing, with other guests still present), the host started sweeping around the nearby tables and putting up chairs. Dave's is great. The staff is awesome, very friendly a funny. The coffee is good and free flowing. As far as the food, everything is right on. Whether it's their perfectly done omelet (try it with salsa!) or their fluffy pancakes, Dave's does not disappoint. Robert T and Rafa R clearly did not have the bacon waffle if they're commenting that nothing that sets Dave's apart - or they know of some other magical establishment that can pull off this breakfast delight so perfectly. If they do I'd pay to know where it is, because as far as I'm aware the culinary excellence that results in Dave's concoction is unmatched. If you're looking for a breakfast experience to write home about, the bacon waffle is not to be missed. What diner doesn't have chicken soup? Well, this one. I specifically came in because I am a bit under the weather and really wanted some chicken soup. Sadly, they didn't have any. Moving past that.....they were packed and service was slow. For example, they seated me without a menu and it took several minutes to get me one. If they wanted to keep tables moving they wouldn't make mistakes like that. Service was unfriendly. Maybe it's because it was so busy, but still. Didn't appreciate that. Food was okay. Since I couldn't have the soup I wanted, I got hot tea and a burger with fries. Nothing outstanding, but everything tasted fine.
