I swore 2 years ago I wouldn't go back. But it's very close. I was hungry. I was weak. I went back. I regret it. The food just plain sucks. No seasoning whatsoever. Margarine instead of butter on my toast? Sure, why not just use vegetable oil for Christ's sake. Terrible. The service is fine and the place is clean and bright, but the food is pricey and unseasoned. For the price paid, at least the eggs could have been quality. Went there today (a party of 3.) Ordered a chef salad with ham and swiss on it, a chicken quesadilla, and a roast beef club. Waitress started us off with flat soda. 40 minutes later, she brought out our food. Only the chicken quesadilla had no chicken. And the chef salad with swiss had American cheese instead. To top it off, the roast beef club we ordered came out as a buffalo chicken sandwich. We told her she had the wrong thing and who knows what she did with it. She went back to get the roast beef. 15 minutes after that, she asked how we'd like the roast beef cooked...for a club sandwich? They hadn't even started making it yet? You're cooking a roast beef club? What?! We politely declined the meal and said we'd rather not bother. 10 minutes after that she offered fries in a sad attempt to appease us, but by then we were leaving. I understand if places are busy and waitresses make mistakes. But there were only three people in there besides us. I'm not sure what was going on there...but we won't be returning. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch passing through town. Fast, friendly service. Delicious tuna melts and grilled chicken clubs. Wonderful old-timey diner feel. Great value, too! Docked one star because they had no milkshakes at the time. You should always be able to get a milkshake at a diner. read more

Dave's Diner was a pitstop on our way home from a short covid vacation at the end of August 2020. We planned to get takeout and eat in the car. When we arrived, masks were being worn appropriately, but after we placed our order, all of the employees, one by one started removing their masks. They were not maintaining distance and I was met with an eye roll, a sigh and a "yea sure" when I said I was not comfortable with them not wearing their masks. Honestly, the entire experience was disturbing especially when the owner later called to refund our money since we did not actually take our food, and he asked that I not leave a negative review. Seriously? Also, we waited more than 45 minutes for standard diner fare to come out of a less than busy establishment. read more

Me and a group of about six others ordered simple breakfast foods like eggs and pancakes, after over an hour we still didn't have our food, and our waitress walked by countless times and never said anything. We stopped in for breakfast and place was pretty quiet. Sat at the counter and was surprised to be ignored for a few minutes. Got coffee and order was taken. After approx 15 minutes I saw other orders coming out of the kitchen, but not ours. I never waited 15-20 minutes for 2 eggs and toast at the counter - in any restaurant. Two waitresses working, but one on her cell phone texting the whole time and the other not really caring about anything. Cook was prcatically tossing the orders out the service window and throwing the order slips. All their attitudes convinced me that the food wouldn't be very good and we didn't want to wait anymore. We got up, asked how much the one cup of coffee cost (one of us had water, the other coffee) and waitress said 2 bucks; she knew I was leaving in a second and as expected - didn't care. No apology - nothing - "coffee is 2 bucks". This particular crew certainly isn't concerned about running a diner or keeping customers. We will never go back there - too many other great places in Utica area with great food and great service. read more

I would have put this place as a zero star if it would let me. Went in today and not only did it take over 20 minutes for them to clean a dirty table, a salt shaker that whoever placed on one of the top of the cubbies fell, hit the back of my head and broke all over the floor of our table. Did I mention that my daughter and infant son were at that table? We had to clean it up and wipe down the table since we knew no one was probably going to it. Another table said what happened to their server and the waitress shrugged it off. It took us over two hours to finish our meal and it was riddled with mistakes (no utensils, missing ordered items to name a few). When I made a comment about the customer service and how I was hit in the back of the head (you know, because that is a liability issue with a customer getting hurt at the property), they again shrugged it off and told it was just an accident. Several of the waitresses were yelling at me and my husband because we were pointing out that our party was being ignored and how long it took for us to get our drinks or get silverware to the table. They used the excuse of not having enough staff even though my party witnessed same staff talking to each other about personal issues, instead of doing their job. I have frequented this establishment for many years and have NEVER been treated this way. I will never go back. If waitstaff is going to yell at me when a customer states legitimate customer service concerns, I would have made it at home. read more

Absolutely disgusting!! Had buffalo tenders, which were gross. The sauce itself was disgusting. The fries were ok. Ranch tasted like mayo. Hair in the whipped cream on the ice cream. Came here for breakfast on a Sat morning. Started with the coffee. Coffee was fresh and hot. Upon getting a refill the waitress spilled coffee on the table. She said sorry and walked away and left the spilled liquid on the table. I used my one and only napkin to clean HER mess. She delivered the breakfast to me and the eggs were cold and the bacon was see through thin. She seemed a little annoyed with me when I asked her for a couple extra napkins after I used my napkin to clean her mess. This place has gone downhill in the last few years. Today I went to get an ice cream cone with my son to Dave's Diner. We decided to make a quick stop after a long day, it looked not busy, the weather was hot. Little did I know that I would spend 30 min in line with 2 girls in the front of me! There were 2 servers, a Spanish looking girl and a Caucasian guy. Let me tell you, these 2 are incapable of serving anybody! After I finally paid the guy was walking around without a purpose and looked distracted. I do not know if he was high or just retarded, but the look on his face was like there was nobody home! The girl was not much better, mean and not friendly at all. The ice cream was runny and grainy, not good. Suffice to say, this was my first and last time I went to that place, it is a dump. Never have I ever had a server be so rude. The girl was rude from the start with such an attitude when asked simple questions such as if the sundaes were made with soft ice cream. Then we asked if we could have a banana split in a cup, as the girl serving us two days prior had made it in a cup but informed us that there would be less toppings. Which we were completely fine with. Both workers were very rude when trying to tell us that the toppings would not fit in a cup. Having worked at an area ice cream restaurant for many years, I was well aware what would fit in the cup and if you put less of each topping, it would fit. I could make it fit, the girl who worked two days earlier had no problem making it fit. The banana split we got was a complete mess and had toppings spilling out and running down the sides. (Picture included) We also asked for chocolate ice cream in another sundae and got vanilla.She then told my mother she couldn't hear what she was saying and to not give her attitude. Been going since they have opened years ago. They are a great business for the Town of Schuyler. Always busy, but that's a sign of great food. Breakfasts are fantastic, although portion sizes have gotten smaller through the years. Staff are always pleasant and reasonably attentive. While there is a sit-in restaurant at Dave's Diner, I came here for some ice cream as I was passing through the area on Route 5. At the diner, they have an window where one can order from outside, and you can select from hard serve or soft serve ice cream. However I think they were just starting my order when I arrived to pick up my food. I will say the waitress apologized many times and when I finally did get the food it was good. I am a firm believer in giving a place a few chances just in case they're having a bad day, but I'm done with Dave's. I think I had an OK breakfast there once two years ago, but the service was not so great. It seems hard to get a coffee refill in this place. Two weeks ago I stopped and got a milkshake which was so good I decided to try a burger. My boss offered to get me lunch there. she ordered three burgers, one with french fries, two with onion rings. She didn't check the order and got only one with onion rings. She offered to go back since she had already eaten her onion rings. The burger was so bad, I didn't want anything else from there so declined her offer. Today I stopped for coffee and decided to have a short stack as well. The coffee was good, but the pancakes were the worst! They had a weird taste and were dense and flat. Yuck, how do you mess up a pancake? I waited for over 20 minutes for the waitress to even offer a refill on the coffee. They probably have enough regulars and ice cream customers to keep them from realizing they are losing any potential new customers. read more
