I come down from Ventura to see "Shady", and his name couldn't be more ironic, because there's nothing shady about him or his work. He's been maintaining my 2005 Lexus SC430 and has saved me a boatload of money on repairs and maintenance over the years. He's respectful, friendly, and clearly takes pride in getting things right. My most recent service made the car run like it did when it was new. The engine is humming smoothly again, something I've honestly NEVER experienced after a repair or routine maintenance anywhere else and I've owned this car since 2007. And while the name S & M Automotive might make some people do a double take (hahaha), the only thing painful here is realizing how unnecessary other repair bills can be once you find a mechanic this good and dependable. I had the good fortune of reaching Todd Harter, the business owner. I explained the situation and he told me to bring my Pilot in THAT DAY. I dropped her off for a diagnostic and heard back from Todd quickly. I needed a new power steering pump and ps fluid exchange. He gave me the quote for the job, I said Yes, please. I then received a call at 2:40pm to let me know the work was complete and I could pick up my Pilot. My friend dropped me off for pick up of my SUV. I paid and was on my way the SAME DAY. I hopped on the 101 to go to Simi a few hours later. My Pilot is back in great running order! It was SO NICE to find a great local mechanic and get a same day repair. Juan taped the AutoZone receipt to the battery so I could use the warranty. 18 months later the battery dies so I call to use the warranty and the lady who answers the phone screams at me that they won't authorize and hung up on me 5 times. They told me to bring the car in. I said I live 300 miles away. They mockingly said I should buy a new battery, drive my car 300 miles, and they will give me the replacement. NEWS FLASH IDIOTS: that's breach of contract and saying that gave me standing the sue the **** out of you. Yes the staff there are actually this f***ing dumb and they think they're smart LOLLLLLLLLLL. So I sent a demand letter telling them I'm about to sue the **** out of them. Juan calls me 3 days later and apologizes, says she doesn't know how to run an office, and authorizes the battery replacement. Everything was fine, but 3 and a half weeks later this dumb lady answers the demand letter with "Good luck with that". Just look at the screenshot. She didn't even know the issue was settled and she has zero emotional regulation or thinking ability. So in conclusion Juan is a real man, but if the lady picks up the phone just tell them you're gonna sue the **** out of them.

This service ranged from the dealership $299 to $200 at other places. Juan set me up for just over $100, much more competitive than other places. The service was extremely quick and I was able to drop my car off early the next day and pick it up in the afternoon. Called them about a misfire on my truck. Told them all of the things I replaced and tested myself…read moreincluding spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil pack, vacuum leak check, and a full ecu reset. I am going camping in a week and needed my truck and figured since I couldn't solve this easily on my own I would take it to a professional. They quoted me $411 for two hours of diagnostic labor. They called me back and told me that they found one of my O2 sensors wasn't giving any readings. This wasn't true because I did a live scan before and after taking it to their shop and was getting o2 readings on all 3 of my sensors. So they essentially lied. They told me that they wanted to charge me another 3 hours ($600) to "keep troubleshooting". I suggested that they replace the O2 wiring and see if that resolves the issue and I would pay the labor hours for that but I was told that was not the "cause" of the misfire. After a roundabout explanation of essentially nothing new or relevant to the misfire they told me "it would be best if I just picked up the truck". They could not give me a straight answer and I was never given the opportunity to speak directly to the tech working on it or the owner. I attached a photo of the bill. The first paragraph is what I told them over the phone. The second paragraph is what they charged me $411 for. They swapped two connectors for the oxygen sensors for $400. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Keep my money, but leave this post up so people know what they're getting themselves into.
