I have been wanting to try Dave's Hot Chicken for a long time and it lived up to the hype. I ordered a slider and fries and everything came out hot crisp and perfectly cooked. The chicken is seasoned all the way through not just on the outside. You can tell this is not an afterthought spice situation. If you want flavor without heat you can get it. If you want heat with flavor pick spicy. We did. It is the sweet spot for anyone who knows their way around spice. The tenders taste like they were marinated because the flavor is built in. I am a pickle in every bite kind of person and these pickles understand the assignment. They cut the richness and bring balance to every bite. The bread deserves its own moment. It reminds me of a Hawaiian roll but less sweet and more savory which works beautifully here. Do not skip the honey drizzle. It sounds optional but it is not. The honey with the salty spicy chicken is the move. The space itself is a whole vibe. Bold graffiti art with San Antonio touches gives it local personality. We passed by and decided to try it for lunch. Let's start with the positives. The staff were very friendly. The place is very clean and very bright. We tried the chicken tenders. The tenders are very generous size. The chicken itself was very tender and juicy. The fries were nice and crispy on the outside and moist on the inside and the fry sauce (kind of like a chipotle mayo sauce) was very tasty. My wife ordered a side of Mac n Cheese and for fast food - it was actually decent. The downside. We ordered hot and very hot (reaper is the only hotter available). They use a rub on the chicken and it was grainy and not particularly flavorful. Neither the hot or very hot were hot - I mean you could barely discern any 'heat' whatsoever - very disappointing. If I ever come back I'll try the reaper and see if it has any spiciness to it. Would we come back? Possibly but more than likely we won't if I'm being honest. read more

Great chicken! I was surprised that the lite mild - medium wasn't too hot. Service was way quicker than I expected! Location was clean and cool inside even in the hot summer. My cousin was dying trying to eat an extra hot tender though. It was easy to eat in the sandwich but as a lone tender, the heat was harder to endure. I was a bit disappointed in the Dave's sauce. I can officially endorse this establishment after TWO tries!! The first time I had mile high hopes and my sister on the phone ready to give this place a go. Restaurant is COLORFUL, lots of street art style murals inside with their mascot as their main subject. Bright, spacious and clean. Meal did take a little while to cook, I can only assume it's because they have high volume online orders. The only real mistake was ordering a Medium spice level slider, because while crunchy and yummy it was lacking any real heat and just missing that something special. Fries were fine, fresh, seasoned, and crinkle cut style. Signature sauce was lovely. However, not completely satisfied, I decided to order DHC again a few days later. This time HOT! Hoping it would really round out the meal and be that missing piece! Well well well... let's just say every bite was bursting with flavor and fire. It was delicious. And painful. I had to suck on ice cubes for a long while after my meal. I decided that I just needed to not take pauses between bites and just let the heat hit me all at once after I was done eating. Having been to Nashville recently, I was so excited to try Dave's HC. The menu is simple: chicken sandwich and tenders customized by your choice of sauce: heat level. We ordered the the tenders and the sandwich and chose the hot and the medium. The hot is hot but delicious. The medium is also good. I really like the seasoning on the fries and enjoyed the pickle slices. The vanilla milkshake was really good. We will definitely bet back when we're in San Antone. See pics! read more

I honestly will stop going to any other fast food places that serve chicken tender type/hot chicken food. The first bite was a pinch of the chicken tender, & man oh man was it juicy & tender. It was moist, fresh, hot & tender. It was spicy with fresh spices, & so delicious. That chili powder was pumping. I was going to wait to get home to eat. However, after the nibble, I had to have a proper bite of the sandwich. Once I did that, there was no holding back. I tried. I did. I even began driving. I do not recommend driving & eating. It's not safe. It's just not. But, dang it! I couldn't stop myself. Granted it was after 1500 in the day, & this was my first meal. So, I kinda busted into the container, & took that sandwich out & devoured it. I got the medium level heat. I could go one more level up. But, after that, I don't think I'd be comfortable. I'm sure others would love more. But, I like to taste my food. Medium, IMO is the perfect level of hot, if you like heat, but don't wanna burn your mouth. It's mild enough. (For me. Trust me, my family swears I don't have taste buds. ) The fries are absolutely perfectly cooked. They have that crisp crunch, with that soft inside. The ambiance is very lively and casual. I ordered the #1 w/2 BIG tenders, fries, 2 slices of white bread, kosher pickles, and their sauce. Spice level was medium. It was not spicy at all, more on the semi-sweet side. If you want spicy pick extra hot, it's more Hot because hot wasn't hot with from what my son said. If you don't do well with spicy food this is food for you. I couldn't finish my food lol the tenders were very big and juicy. I wish they would have provided ranch dressing besides only their special sauce. The sauce is a little sweet but still tastes good. I plan to come back and try the hotter flavor since I do enjoy a kick to my spice. All in all I do recommend checking it out. They have milkshakes but I don't get to try one since I was so full lol. The food was good nothing to complain about and it came out hot in a short time. I wouldn't say it was amazing which I thought for the price it should have been. Maybe other people would not agree but that is how I felt about it. Also they only have Dave's sauce which tasted kind of mustard like but couldn't really pin down the flavor. Anyways I prefer mayo and they don't have any which I thought was odd since they have a slaw that I believe is made there and I thought slaw was made with mayo but there wasn't enough on the slider to really tell. The staff was less than friendly not even smiling or seeming to want to be there so I didn't bother asking. The place was clean and temperature was comfortable but I wasn't a fan of the decor much. What really influenced my rating was the value for the cost I just thought wasn't on line with what I would pay again one slider and fries without a drink was over $10 with tax and the sandwich was not even as large as a typical sandwich from some other places.
