Dad had a regular doctor's appointment on the south side of town yesterday. On our way back home, we stopped @trailblazercafe for lunch and watched the planes fly in and out of Stinson Municipal Airport. We picked up the menus from the counter, decided what we wanted, and went back to the counter to place our order. Chasity took our order and also served us. I ordered coffee while Dad had the IBC root beer. We shared the When Hammy Met Cheesy Sandwich and Fried Green Tomato BLT. The sides were fries and a salad. The food was overall decent, but the fries were overdone. Dad also prefers thicker fries. We saw a helicopter parked outside and saw that there are helicopter tours from the Stinson Municipal Airport. Might have to try it one day! read more

This an extensive menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was a bit after noon, so lunch. My son had the Longhorn burger. The tomatoes must be an in thick. It was cooked exactly to order. I had the Chicken Fried Steak. It was OUTSTANDING. I've had this Texas-standard all across the state. This must be in the Top 5....it's really that good. 24 Aug 2023 This is our first time here. We wanted to have breakfast here and then go to the Texas Air Museum, also on the grounds of Stinson Field. You come in, grab a menu and then order at the counter. We're here about 9am and we are the only customers. Great views of the airfield to watch planes come and go. Close enough to watch the pilots get their planes ready, going through checklists and whatnot. It was a pretty busy morning. We opted for the 'build your own' breakfast. Choose a carb, meat and how you want your two eggs. I had bacon, potatoes, added toast and a bowl of fruit. Husband had sausage, potatoes and his eggs. We ended up sharing the toast and fruit. One woman takes care of the front of house and there is a cook or two in the back. The cook brought out the food. The meals were tasty, the whole grain toast just right and the fruit (watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries, blueberries) was very fresh-tasting. As a kid my partner told me he and his grandfather would drive up and around Stinson Airport when they would visit the area and this side of the river. Although I am born in the south side area I never really ventured this far out to see the airport so I had no clue this existed until our 1st recent visit. Running into a unique and special cafe like Trailblazer Cafe really makes this spot super charming. Watching all of the planes come in and take off was super relaxing as we sipped on our coffees and waited for our scratch made food hit our table. Freshly made food when you place your order that comes out piping hot so grab yourself a mimosa or an iced coffee to have while you wait patiently for some of the best food to fuel you for your day. Open 7 days a week you really got no excuse to not come and try breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. When we visited there was a vintage Model T meetup and show in the parking lot over Fathers Day weekend. I was so smitten to see all of the cars and owners come into the cafe to eat and grab a cold drink. There are sharable plates on the menu, cleverly named sandwiches (check out the When Hammy Met Cheesy! it looks tasty!), and even some lavender (or regular) fresh lemonade! There is a food or entree for everyone even the pickiest of eaters. We noticed a few pilots that took food to-go with them and loaded up in one of the prepped airplanes in the lot outside our window! I can only imagine where those pilots were heading to and even daydreamed wondering if they would end up having a cool picnic, of their tasty Trailblazer Cafe sandwiches, in some nearby county that they may be flying away to. What a fun spot! I brought my daughter here to meet up with a friend. I had heard good things and thought it would be neat to watch the planes and might keep her entertained. It was a hit. You grab a menu when you enter and choose your own seat. Someone came quickly and I ordered an iced latte and a biscuit for my daughter. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, but quite a few cyclists trickled in and out and it got more crowded during our visit. After a little while we ordered a burger and fries and my friend ordered a breakfast bowl. The food was freshly prepared and we enjoyed our meals. What a surprising find as we meandered along the Mission Trail in SanAntonio. We wanted a coffee and snack, so searched Yelp. When we pulled up we're somewhat surprised to see Trailblazer is inside the Stinson Municipal airport. Enter the charming doorway and hang a hard left. Wow! I'm a student pilot at Stinson airport, I always come to Trailblazer for lunch after a long morning of flying! The staff, especially Lizzy, are always very kind and personable, even going so far as to remember my regular order and making sure I have everything I want. The food itself is fantastic, I really recommend their Whiskey Chick sandwich and their iced Mocha, but their Rueben and burgers are also wonderful. As far as location and view, you literally cannot get better for any person who cares about aviation: the restaurant has a large glass window running the full length of the outside wall allowing you to view almost the entirety of runway 14-32. I can't even remember how many times I've seen some awesome aircraft take off or chatted with another pilot I met while eating. Overall a wonderful experience! read more

We love Stinson airport, and all airport cafes to be honest (Fredericksburg and Uvalde also have great ones!), so after hearing about the new Trailblazer Café opening we decided to give it a try! First and foremost, if you want to ensure seating it is very wise to pick an nontraditional time to visit (the owner advised the same!). We got there around 2pm and two other groups were present but getting a table wasn't a problem. However, it's a small and I suspect a very soon-to-be-even-more-popular restaurant; so there is a chance you'll have to wait during peak eating hours! Now, I will admit I looked over the menu online and nothing really jumped out to me, so I was a bit nervous about ordering something I'd like. I am not into spicy foods, and it seemed like many items had such ingredients. However, I went with the same bet and got the Call Me Old Fashioned (appropriately named) hamburger minus the spicy brown mustard, as did my son. We got ours medium-well on whole wheat buns and with fries, which turned out to be excellent choices! As a reminder, this is a "scratch kitchen," meaning none of the food is prepared ahead of time; so there will be some waiting on your food to hit your table but to be honest it didn't seem to take too long (things were a bit quieter than normal though). Our burgers were perfectly done. I used to get burgers well done, which tended to dry them out; but these were spot on! Cooked well but still juicy, just the way we like them! The fries were excellent as well, shoestring types with a great potato taste and just the right amount of salt. My wife got the Spin Heart sandwich which you'll have to look up on the menu (https://trailblazercafe.square.site/?location=11ed3223aa192270a9c1ac1f6bbbd01e) but which she loved as well. About the only critique I had was with the drinks. They offer bottled items (Cokes, Fanta Orange, etc.) in a display at the register, and bring you a cup of ice. While nice, I simply prefer cold drinks without ice as it tends to water down the drink! Except for an excellent restaurant in Bahrain, which had ice made from Coke (no kidding, it was really cool!), this has been my preference for years! It would be nice if the drink bottles themselves were cold and not dependent on the ice to the right temperature. Otherwise, we will most definitely be returning! It was fun eating while watching planes and helicopters take off and fly by (I said we like airport cafes!), and the food was some of the best we've had in a long time! I almost hesitate sharing such a glowing review as I know this place will get more popular as word gets out (it's only been open a month or two), but they deserve recognition as if such places aren't supported, they may not be around too long; and Trailblazer Café needs to stick around!
