I recently purchased a Dave's branded flannel shirt. I washed it and now it no longer fits me. I called the store to see if I had any recourse, but no I don't. This former Dave's customer advises you to stay away from their branded clothing. They're made in China and not very well, especially their $70 flannel shirts. read more

I have been coming to Dave's for years because they really know their stuff. I love them but have one complaint. I was there last week and the sales person was very friendly and took the time to really look at my shape to determine the best size jeans for me and he was right. So when I looked at the shelf he took me to, he stood there. I was trying to decide and felt uncomfortable and pressured. I told him I'll think for a minute and he still stayed there. I don't understand that logic as it just made me feel smothered. I hope the owner tells the staff to show the item and then let us decide and not stand over us. Love this place for my hubs, he can find these cargo pants he loves for a price that makes everyone happy! It's called reasonable not overpriced because we want to be cool... Good standard work clothes for men, and there are a few women's and kiddies items too. I bought the most ridiculously cute t shirt for my grandson of a tool belt printed on the front for $10, he's 4 and he's going to love it! I also found a retro looking Levi's women's shirt in black with pink lettering that I find very cool, or I'm just a nerd but whatever I liked it and it was again only $18. So its worth taking a gander, and they have people working that are more than happy to help you find stuff or sizes. read more

The staff genuinely ruins the experience. You cannot walk two feet without being asked if you need help. That is not an exaggeration. I work in retail and love good customer service, but Dave's is aggressively unnecessary and just plain creepy. Having said that, the product selection is good. But make sure the clothes you try on are going to fit, or else you'll be met with rudeness by the dressing room staff. Overall, avoid Dave's. Places like this remind me why people opt to shop online. read more

I love this store. I discovered it in 2009 when i was first based in NY. Ever since then it has been my go-to place for Levi's, cargo shorts, winter clobber, carhartt & dickies gear and other well made practical clothing that regular, non-super-trendy, instagram fashionista blokes wear. They have an excellent range of all of the above, as well a very good selection of schott leather jackets and sundry winter coats, snow boots etc... All at a very reasonable price. I've always found their customer very good, this is not to debunk the bad experiences of some other reviewers, and yes some of the guys on the shop floor can be a bit quirky, but i've always just read it as a bit of banter - i once got told i couldn't try anything on because i was wearing a Chicago Bulls jersey lol. Also i suppose that unlike a large department store they have more autonomy and don't have to subscribe to the credo - "the customer's always right". But from my own personal experience they've always been lovely and helpful; case in point i recently brought in a pair of jeans for exchange that didn't fit, which i'd purchased about 8 months prior. They had never been worn, still had labels attached and i had the receipt, but still they would have been well within their rights to refuse to exchange it, but they did; no questions asked. I have been going to Dave's for about 5 years and I love their variety of workwear. Although I am not within their typical demographic, they still make me feel very welcome. Over the years, I have become familiar with some of the workers there and even with masks on I can feel the warmth of their smiles. I rarely ever leave with only one thing. Even if I enter with one thing in mind, I can't help but look through whole store. Most of what I wear now is Carhartt. I just really like shirts with pockets and Carhartt does it well. I like how Dave's keeps a lot of different colors and sizes in stock. Usually I like the bagginess of the mens shirts but if I want something that is closer to my actual size, I know I can always look at the womens or kids section. If they don't have something in the size or color I want, they offer to take down my info so they can notify me when it comes. I tend to be indecisive but they give good advice and are very patient. I get compliments from many friends on what I wear and always let them know that I go to Dave's. If I have a business card or sticker (btw their free stickers at the checkout area are another neat feature!) I give it to them. They have now also become fans : ) read more

I've been coming here for about 20 years now, and the one thing that remains consistent is their high level of customer service. I needed some new casual dress pants and came in with my size, had them tried on, and was out the door in about 20 mins. The prices are reasonable too, at about 40% off of what the MSRP was listed. These guys aren't about high pressure...they just want to help you find what you need. I hope they are around for another 20 years. read more

I bought 2 great pairs of boots here the staff was quite helpful and I was able to get a sweet deal on a discontinued pair of boots.

Went in today based on past positive experiences. There were maybe two paying customers in the store besides me, along with about 8 or 9 personnel, repeatedly accosting me, asking "can I help you," and shadowing me around. I was so annoyed, I nearly walked out without buying anything but did end up getting a few things. In retrospect, I should've kept moving. The women's wear has shrunk to miniscule stock with very little variety. From here on out, I'll shop elsewhere. A real shame, this used to be a go-to for well-made casual clothing. read more

Ironworker from California who has been shredding Carhartt textiles & Redwing boots for 20 years. This is the best spot I've found to buy my work clothes online or brick & mortar. I was kinda shocked at how cheap they sell stuff for, pretty much the same as I've found online. The staff is great too, they dug some stuff out of the back for me & have been really good to me. Winchester Chic! (For any Supernatural fans) I get the Carhartt catalog in direct mail. I ask for an item using the code out of the catalog, and they call and respond without an eyeblink. They have oversized clothes (for maybe 10 bucks more) if you are into layering without being bulky. The crew is top notch. It is always crowded but you never feel rushed. read more

Around the corner from the Levi's Store, Dave's sells $54 Levi's for $38. The guy who helped me knew all the brands and models and was very helpful. I went to the Levi's store, too, and though the lady who helped me was much prettier, the store is dark, and $54 Levi's cost $54. One complaint: The changing room walls could use a coat of paint. Quick Story: I went to Dave's New York, and left 15 minutes later with 2 pairs of the exact 511 skinny Levi's I wanted for $35 each ($58 on the retail tag). The End. It's a dude's dream, if dudes dreamt about shopping. (They don't, but if they did? Not that there's anything wrong with that!) Super friendly staff that literally know everything you could possibly know about jeans, ridiculously cheap prices, and great selection. They treat customers like they are in a boutique, and take care to make sure you find the exact jeans you're looking for. You're in and out in no time! I hesitate to sing the praises of dear old Dave's too loudly--it's already pretty overrun with tourists stocking up on American products that cost them twice as much in Europe. But shucks, Dave's deserves your business, so I sing I will. (Figuratively, natch.) Now, unless you're the kind of guy who spends $60 or more on a pair of jeans--which I'd take serious issue with--this is the best place in the city to get, you know, actual denim. (The kind of jeans they used to call dungarees.) Rigid, regular fit 505s. 501s. And old-school Levi's corduroys. And black denim. All below the MSRP. (Try *that* trick anywhere else, cats and kitties.) And while Dave's does have a pretty terrific selection of other Levi's styles, they keep the crap (stonewashes, trendy reissues, etc.) to a minimum, instead focusing on stocking lots of sizes of the good stuff. They also have all sorts of other first-rate tough guy clothing you'll have a hard time finding under one roof anywhere else: Levi's Trucker and Sherpa Jackets, Schott Pea Coats, Wrangler Western shirts, and a great selection of Red Wing boots. Get the idea? And if Dave's isn't a truly traditional Army/Navy store (aka a "Military Surplus Store") with insignia patches, canteens and compasses behind a glass counter, they do have a deep selection of fairly priced, solidly built work wear, rain wear (Carhartt and others) and winter wear (from top of the line Canada Goose parkas to more modest but equally respectable Carolina iterations), as well as long-johns, t-shirts, wool socks, caps, et. al. And besides the price and selection, there's something else that's special about Dave's: the service. I stop in once a week to see what's new (they reorder and restock constantly) and over the past three or four years, the same people have been working at the store, both on the floor and behind the counter. They know their inventory, they're helpful without being pushy, and, frankly, it's really nice to see the same faces every time you go. Retail jobs being what they are (i.e. difficult, low-paying) I'd say this qualifies as a minor miracle. As does Dave's itself. read more

DON" TRY AND RETURN SOMETHING! I tried to return a $270 jacket within a couple of weeks with the tags still on in and they bullied me to the point where I left it there without even a store credit! The store is loaded floor to ceiling with jeans, jackets, and other clothing. Another reviewer said that this place belonged in Pennsylvania somewhere, and he was absolutely right. Going here reminded me of when I was a kid growing up in PA and my dad would take me to the outlets in Lancaster to get a winter coat. The store is about as no-frills as can be, but they have a nice selection of work wear and winter coats. I just picked up a nice Woolrich down parka there for $225. The list price for the coat is $330, and this is a really nice-looking and super-warm coat, so I'm very happy with the bargain that I got. The guys working there were very friendly and helpful, but they weren't invasive or high-pressure salesmen. I walked out feeling great about the service and my purchase. If you're looking for haute fashion, then you're in the wrong place. This where you get the functional, rugged, reasonably priced gear that will keep keep you warm and comfortable for a long time. read more

I was looking for a bomber online and Dave's had it in stock for significantly less than anywhere else, so I went to pick it up and was thrilled to discover their awesome selection of work wear and functional clothing. The staff member who helped us was really helpful and friendly. We found both boots and his jacket....and I wandered around the women's section, and contemplating a new North Face. First time heading to this spot, which I've heard about from friends who go here on a regular. I originally was looking for a pair of Dickies 872 but those are only sold in the UK so I opted for the 873 in navy instead which they had in stock. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about what they had in stock and differences in the sizing. When they couldn't find my size 36/30, which is hard as hell to find in alot of men's stores, they went out of their way to go to the stockroom and find a pair, and they fit perfectly waist and length wise, although not as silm in the legs as I thought it would be. I purchased one for $850 close the sale then saw another one that I preferred for $750. There's always a lot of employees on hand and they're super helpful and friendly. This non-chain business is an example to all of the small business retailers on how to have competitive prices AND good service. This is a super solid store for basic jeans, shirts, coats, shoes, socks. My daily wear shirts and pants come from Dave's. I also get my winter underwear (Minus44) there, dirt cheap! They have a huge selection of Carhartt, but also Levi's, Columbia, etc. Their work boot selection is seriously amazing. Their store is directed at the working man who needs some rough clothes for rough work. Of course, some of their clientele are hipsters or slumming Euros (lots of French overheard) trying to acquire some street cred. Er, that's sorta me too. The staff is low-key and helpful. They have no problem searching inventory to see if they have your size in stock. If you need solid clothes to get through your week, this is the place to go. read more
