Dave's Sushi is fantastic! The service is amazing and the food is great. I have loved everything I've tried there. They also have a fantastic gluten free menu! I strongly recommend the seaweed & squid salad as well as the Jack Sparrow, but you really can't go wrong. read more

We had a 17 top, all girls, separate checks. So ya, we were high maintenance. Server handled it with stone cold grace. Some of the best sushi in Bozeman! These guys make some phenomenal sushi. They make rolls that not only compliment the fish, but make my taste buds dance in a euphoric state of bliss. They make every dining experience more than enjoyable and the staff treats you like your one of their friends. Coleman was an outstanding waiter and really made our experience top notch. We recently moved from Kauai to Big Sky and we were craving sushi....of course...but where could we find decent sushi in Montana? Well, we have the answer! Bozeman at Dave's Sushi!!!! Honestly, it was better than what we had on island and we were blown away. So fresh and super yummy rolls!!! Also the best Miso Soup we've had in a long time. The staff was awesome and friendly. It's such a great little spot. Really comfortable and a Happy place!! We saw beautiful salads go to other tables and they also serve ramen so we will be making many trips back to Dave's Sushi just to try everything ...for sure! Mahalo!!! read more

I love the people who rave about this place. Great fish, great service, great atmosphere. One reviewer even had the audacity to tell of all the sushi she has enjoyed "in the US and Europe" that don't compare to Dave's. I nearly peed my pants laughing at that ridiculous statement. And better than Chicago? Umm, ever been anywhere good in Chicago? Bet not. Well, here is the first honest review of Dave's Sushi. By the way, he doesn't fly his fish in from anywhere but the Montana Fish store. To start, I really wanted to like this place. Small, intimate setting with outdoor dining. Relaxed, uber casual vibe. And that is where it ends. I first came here over a year ago and apparently I was not dressed appropriately. I had on a sport coat. My service was abysmal. 1.5 hours wait for a spicy tuna roll and 1 order of tuna nigiri. Meanwhile, all the mountain appropriate and dare I say granola types seemed to get served so much quicker. On top of that, my service was slow on everything else: Saki, water, tea, etc. Even the edamame took an eternity. And was my 20 something, hipster waitress accommodating, you ask? Nope. Standoffish and glib. I vowed never to come back. And then, some friends kept espousing the virtues of Dave's. "Oh, it's the best sushi in town," they said. "Oh, you are being too hard on them," they'd say. So I decided to try again. This time, I thought, lunch would be a better choice. Crap, wrong again. I sat at the sushi counter and was helped by one of the, wait can I call her this, "sushi chefs". Lol. More like just a guy and some girl who slap or rather very slowly and haphazardly slap together sushi. Again, caterpillar roll, spicy tuna roll and some nigiri. Again, with half the restaurant already eating it took nearly 45 minutes to get my food. During this rather long wait, no pleasantries from the staff, very little checking up to fill my water glass. And since when does the sushi chef making your order ignore you when they are working directly in front of you? Maybe it was just me. So, eager to see if the fish was as stellar as the other reviewers magically make it out to be, I dug in. Yeah, no. It was outclassed by Safeway or Whole Foods prepared rolls. Basically, I could have made better fish while drunk in the back of a pickup truck. I have lived in many cities and have actually traveled quite a bit, unlike the reviewer who considers herself a sushi aficionado and I can honestly tell you that this is not the best sushi in the world. The thought makes me laugh. Want great sushi? Go to NY, Philly, Chicago, ATL, San Francisco, Vegas, LA and even Denver. Don't waste your time at Dave's. In Bozeman and have to have your fresh fish fix? Try Looie's. Otherwise, just wait until you go to a metropolis. read more

Cool, party vibe. Pretty good sushi. I like to go here with my younger friends and do it up right. Get a ton of different rolls and drink too much. This is not the place to go for authentic sushi though, but I feel like you should know that when you read the name of the restaurant. Tempura is bad. But everything else is good. Oh, I am going to feel bad about this one. Two and a half stars. I hate giving a less-than-stellar review, because Dave is a really nice guy. The first time I went in, I mentioned that I worked in a sushi restaurant in Park City, UT, and he was so excited to chat sushi with me! From then on, he remembered me on my next visits. SUPER nice guy, really has a passion for sushi. That being said, the quality of fish is not great, same goes for the rice. I usually don't eat rolls, I stick to sashimi and nigiri, so the quality of the fish is extremely important--- can't hide it by caking it in sauce like you can a roll. After reading all the reviews, I was excited about check this place out. How cool is it that the owner, Dave, was a software engineer and wanted good sushi and opened this place?!? The story and idea are cool. Place is decorated nicely. You can total tell this place has a following. Like the up to an hour wait to get a seat. I suggest calling ahead, we did and got seated right away. So thinking back to the owner's previous job, I know software engineers are analytical and logical. I was looking for that logic when it came time to check in (took 15 mins) bc customers were ordering drinks at the hostess stand (weird right?). Our waiter was good up until we were served our food - no water refill, no "soda" refills, and couldn't flag him down to tell him he our order wrong. He was promptly fawning over a bunch of freshly scrubbed hikers (which is cool) but I think our bill for 4 was more than the 10 hikers put together. Any-who, signaled for the bill, got it right away, paid and left. Liked the concept not the execution. Maybe it's time to take a look at your data and do more direct customer satisfaction queries. Boyfriend and I decided to try Dave's sushi because we usually go to Wasabi Sushi. The Sake and miso soup were good, but nothing else was. The crab cheese wontons looked like Tostitos pizza rolls and tasted like rotten fish. The vegetable tempura was over fried and tasted like stale lays potato chips. Both of our sushi rolls were also undesirable. Our waitress was very rude and acted like every question and request was inconveniencing her. There was another waiter serving the tables around us and he seemed fabulous and attentive. We had hoped for a better experience considering we spent over $60, but at least we know NOW that Wasabi Sushi is the best in Bozeman. I really would not suggest Dave's Sushi. My husband and I gave Dave's a second try and it was much different than the first. We sat at the sushi bar and drank wine and beer. Aaron was right in front of us and made all of our sushi items. We also ordered two green salads and edamame. The sushi appetizers, scallops and tuna were incredible. The fish and scallops were so fresh. We ordered the Raz hammer, The wish call Fonda, Broad comedy and the Divers delight. They were all delicious and the Divers delight was my favorite. The only complaint I have is the amount of time it took to actually get our sushi and the price. The sushi is expensive. We went in on a Friday night at 6:00 but it was not busy yet and there were plenty of tables available. We only ordered 4 rolls and it took and hour and a half to get them. Our bill was $90 without tipping the waitress or sushi chef and that is more than we spend anywhere. We will be back but probably not as often as we'd like because we can't afford to spend $90 on going out to dinner. read more

I'm giving such a low rating because it took over a half an hour to get our food, and we have currently been waiting on the bill for about 20 minutes. All in all, we've been here an hour. I didn't expect sushi to be this good in Montana but it definitely exceeded my expectations. There were a minimum of 10-12 pieces per roll and the quality was great! While, it's true that the wait for food seems more than normal, I'd have to say I really enjoyed my experience at Dave's. It had that usual small town Montana feel and my kids really enjoyed the noodle bowl, while I sampled every kind of sushi they offered. When you're in Montana and trying to find a sushi joint, I sorta feel like you should be thankful to find one at all, but that's just me. The service was definitely lacking, but that's when I reserve my generous tipping for someone or someplace that deserves it. read more

Usually pretty good. Have had the wrong rolls brought out 3 times though. The servers are nice enough, but they refuse to split the check. There's maybe 20 tables total in there, they use Aloha POS which is about the easiest damn system to split a check with, so why don't they just do it. They will split the amount onto different cards, so they just make you do the splitting part yourself. Overall though Dave's is worth checking out. They have good options besides sushi too. I always get one sushi roll, and then a noodle bowl. Simple soba noodles, but it always hits the spot. read more

I got FOOD POISONING eating here. I fell very sick and was bed ridden for 48 hours! I love sushi and I have had sushi from many places from California to New York and even Japan. I can tell you that while Dave's Sushi might be considered by some as offering the best sushi in Bozeman...well, that's not saying much. I have been to Dave's three times now, and two out of three times I got a snippy waitress who obviously didn't give a damn. Third time, the service was passable, but not great. The food itself is really not anything special; in fact, a few times I was served old fish that tasted awful. Their rolls are a case of quantity-over-quality; sure, you get a lot for the price, but they aren't good at all. I know my Japanese food, and I was very disappointed each time. Having grown up in California, where mom and pop sushi restaurants dot the map, I was excited (and surprised) to see there was a sushi join in town. My husband and I traditionally enjoyed sushi at least once a week in CA and we tried this place on our first night after moving. The restaurant is on the smaller side, which is traditional for a sushi restaurant, but we were seated fairly quickly. A word of warning - if it's cold and you go during a busy time, they don't really have a waiting area, so you may have to stand outside while waiting for a clear table. The menu is remarkably long for a place so far from fresh seafood and includes your traditional rolls like the caterpillar and spicy tuna and some more creative things like the chicken tempura sushi. The prices were also decent. However, the waitservice was incredibly slow and once we finally got our food the flavors were not as fresh as you probably want for raw fish. The tuna was particularly "fishy" tasting and the usually-mild sushi rice was almost gummy. We were in no way worried about food poisoning, but we were disappointed by the flavor. The cooked rolls were okay, but they seemed remarkably similar to the kind of sushi you buy at the supermarket. Our waitress also seemed severely annoyed when, after our initial order or food was about gone, we decided to try two more of the specialty rolls to see if we could find something we really liked. Given that the place wasn't particularly busy by that time, it was well before closing, and no one was waiting for our table, this seemed odd. If you are a real sushi lover, this is probably not your place. For just the casual or occasional sushi-eater, you might be okay. read more

Excellent sushi; almost impossible to get a table. This summarize my experience with Dave's sushi. I only order sushi on take-out as there is always a bunch of people waiting at the door to be seated. Coming from Paris, where I had excellent sushi bars, I was impressed by the taste of the sushi and sashimi there. A good point for Bozeman! Another excellent point: the menu proposes very interesting maki rolls, with exotic food combinations that would make a japanese head spin; e.g., breaded chicken, king crab. Average sushi -- needs some competition! Extremely busy as we arrived at 7:30pm and it took 30 minutes to get seated. Sushi is average and menu has a lot of variety that isn't traditional Japanese food. Wait staff seemed more interested in their friends than the rest of the customers. Fish didn't seem that fresh. We bought the whole staff sake bombs and left a 75% tip in cash. Four days later we ran into our sushi guy (Jessie) in town and he approached us saying how "shitty" our $10 tip was. This and one other restaurant are my top two in town ... no question. A top choice for date night. My wife and I usually get the mixed green salad (sesame ginger dressing), and yaki soba bowl of noodles to start things off (we're vegetarian). Then we always hit the Pam Anderson roll and an avo/mango roll (instead of nigri). I would take the combination of these two rolls over any sushi I've eaten. The atmosphere/decor fits us perfectly.
