I had thought about doing LASIK (I didn't even know what SMILE was until I came to this facility for a free consultation) for a few years, but never came around to being serious about it until my employer offered FSA. I looked online, and this facility had the best reviews, so I decided to give them a call. I would never try to cheap out on a life-altering surgery on my only pair of eyes. Everyone that I had dealt with was extremely friendly. If my memory serves me correctly you will have your free consultation, then a few days before your scheduled surgery you will go in for another checkup and Dr. Haddad will walk you through the process. The surgery was pretty quick and went smoothly. When I got home I went straight to bed, woke up with some minor pain (I had forgotten to take another Tylenol), rested for a bit, and then went back to sleep for the night. The next day I went in for my checkup and everything turned out great. My vision is now 20/10. I didn't experience any of the concerning side effects (e.g., glows, difficulty driving at night) that some encounter. The only thing that I noticed is that my eyes were a little dryer than normal during the winter months (having your heater turned on will obviously remove moisture so that made sense) and this is easily remedied by using artificial tears (I rarely needed to use, but it's good to keep some at home). I would highly recommend to anyone that can afford corrected eye surgery to come here. Remember that you get what you pay for, so while this place may not be the cheapest, it definitely is worth the cost. Also for those that do not know, SMILE does not require the creation of a flap (quicker recovery time).

My mom questioned me in Arabic, why she directed us to another, the third receptionist rudely replied cuz that's a different department. After checking in a manager Michelle stated the 3rd receptionist said my mother called the 1st receptionist a uncalled for curse word which wasn't true so we confronted the receptionist which was quiet & then stated my mom said the B word which doesn't even make sense when she spoke to me in Arabic. Michelle did not want me to provide me with Nina's name after I requested it. Michelle wrote down here supervisors name & the employee name at first, her response was to secretly call the cops on me instead for confronting Nina, the falsely accusing employee. Troy police were nice & respectable realizing confronting an employee making bogus claims about an elderly middle eastern patient woman isn't a crime. Glad I recorded it also proving the also yelling statement is also not valid. Mind you my mom has been a customer here 15 years. Dr Hamburger seemed nice to me & my mom. Raising awareness so no other middle eastern elderly patients don't go through this experience also. Luckily I recorded the incident & will share across social media so people are aware of happened here. Hopefully the nonsense stops here. Me nor my mother deserved this horrible service or anyone else. If both Nina & Michelle apologized in writing to me & my mom I'll remove this post, otherwise it only makes sense to share awareness to prevent future similarities incidents & report to civil rights departments,etc..

The receptionist was friendly when I called to make an appointment, and I was able to get an appointment about two weeks from the time I called. That's the perfect length--- if they would have said "oh come in this afternoon!" I would be worried, and if it would have been four months I would have been annoyed. When I arrived at the appointment, I was greeted by a friendly employee at the front desk and given a couple pages of paperwork to fill out in a clean, comfortable waiting room. Almost immediately after my paperwork was complete, I was brought back for my exam with a pleasant medical assistant. The exam was very thorough. They measured my prescription twice- once before and once after using the dilating drops. Dr. Singh then completed her own portion of the exam, and noticed an abnormality. She did a couple extra tests to make sure all was a-okay. I appreciated how she explained the situation to me, and was grateful they were checking everything out. They accepted my insurance for exams but not frames, so they happily printed out my prescription for me to take to another eyeglass store. I've had eye doctors give me a hassle for doing this before, so I really appreciated how easy they were to work with. This is a much more thorough exam than you would find at a walk-in or chain eyeglass store (Pearlevision, Sears Optical, etc.). At Castleman they are doing a medical examination of your eyes, not just testing your vision. In my opinion this is a good value and worth the slightly extra time to book an appointment. In fact (random side note), I had an acquaintance that basically had the diagnosis of his brain cancer start with an ophthalmologist's exam. If he would have gone to his usual mall optometrist, it likely would have been missed and progressed further without treatment. This place is definitely on my "recommend" list-- I'll be back (when necessary)!

At my last exam I was told that since I had early cataracts my exam would be billed as a Medical cost not as a vision exam. I payed the $40 medical insurance copay at the time of the visit. A couple of weeks later I received a bill for $35 dollars which I inquired about and was told this was the vision exam cost. I asked why this was not sent to the vision insurance and was told that I said at the exam I wanted to pay out of pocket. That is not true, there was no discussion ever about an additional payment. I was told that this was not usual for them. I asked to get an explanation why this happened this time but have not received a promised return call with explanation. This is the second time I've gotten a billing for a covered procedure. I believe this may be an attempt to double bill patient and insurer for the same exam, possible if I had not noticed and questioned it. One time a reasonable mistake twice is suspicious.
