Horrible orthodontist. He will destroy your teeth. He's very absent minded and doesn't care about anything but the money.

I got my braces done at this office 15 years ago. Dr. Tabata did a great job with my teeth! I wasn't the best with my retainers and luckily my teeth didn't move much at all. However, I have a slight movement on my bottom teeth which has been bugging me for some time (my fault completely). I went into the office today and met Dr. Htut (Dr. Tabata has now retired). Dr. Htut is a great guy! He took a good look at my teeth, and told me that getting an entirely new treatment may be a bit of an overkill because my teeth are so straight. He did mention that he would recommend new retainers for me, and not much else unless of course I wanted to proceed with further treatment. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I opted to do the invaslign treatment. Staff is super friendly, and what I liked most was that Dr. Htut was not pushy or salsey at all! He flat out told me that I didn't HAVE to do anything, and that it was entirely my choice. This made me feel good about my decision to go through with a treatment with them! If you're looking for an HONEST and genuine ortho, Dr.Htut and the team at Prestige is your best bet! Thanks a lot guys! read more

I had an extremely bad experience with Dr Tabatha. He ground my lower front tooth down without telling me why or asking my permission. My tooth looks horrible and it's ruined. He denies doing this. I have no idea why he did this. He never told me why. Now My tooth is wrecked forever and he shows me that he does not care. He actually accused me of chipping my own tooth. This is Mal practice. He has shown me what a horrible and uncaring dentist he is. Stay away from this place !! Btw - this incompetent Dr Tabatha charged over $5000.00. Dr Tabatha This MATTERS ! I paid for a nice smile . In no instance should anyone EVER get braces from Dr. Tabata. He was misleading, and both of our kids had to get second pairs of braces after being treated by him. He missed including several teeth in my daughters treatment and told us she needed Phase 2 after his staff had said she'd only need one phase. She ended up in braces for 5 years . Don't let the niceness of the staff or "speedy" claims blind you. You will regret his treatment when you pay for braces twice. Find a trustworthy orthodontist and pay once to have it done right the first time. read more

It's so hard calling both offices... no one ever answers the phones, it goes into voice mail and they never call you back. It's so frustrating trying to make an appointment here. Rude staff. We were told a year of braces , but it's almost been 2 years. My child left with bleeding gums again today.

So, there are two things to consider, in my opinion, when selecting a healthcare provider: first the quality of the healthcare services (medical/dental), and (2) everything else, including after-care services/customer service. Here, the orthodontics care itself seems to me on par with other good and experienced orthodontists. So, no complaints there. But when it comes to after care service, good luck! Perhaps it is the result of having too many patients, but you can almost never get an appointment to have the wires adjusted or do any work done in between major visits. If you are "lucky" and can be seen, most likely it will be in the Diamond Bar office. So, if you are thinking your visits will be in La Verne, you are out of luck. Well, let's say your wait would be twice as long and the wait for an appointment in Diamond Bar is already way too long in my opinion. Dr. Tabata himself, and his office managers are responsive to customers, when you eventually escalate the case and talk to them.....eventually! However, the front office staff's customer service skills leaves a lot (a whole lot) to be desired, on the phone or in person. Often they hang the phone up on you, after a long time being on hold, either on purpose or because they don't know how to use the phones. I am not sure which one is worse. Once you finally get an appointment, you receive a text message to remind you of the "late more than 10 minutes and your appointment will be cancelled" policy. If you get get there 9 minutes late, the receptionist tells you to come back another time as if it is easy to take off from work one more day to take the kids for another appointment (2-3 weeks later) and likely in Diamond Bar. Now, what if you get there on time? Well, you will need to wait 15-30 minutes before you are seen. Why? So, if you only care about the orthodontics services only, I recommend the place. If you want to be treated nicely after services rendered, and have the opportunity for responsive staff and the option of being seen in a reasonable number of days for adjustments, I suggest you check with others and ask them questions about their after care services before you sign the contact. Oh, and speaking of contracts, please make sure to double (triple) check the quoted expenses on the first day--check with your instance company and verify your own coverage. They quoted nearly $1,500 more than my maximum out of pocket was supposed to be. Only after talking to the insurance company and quoting the agent's response, they brought the cost down to what it should've been. Never explained the discrepancy. read more

My two older kids got braces at Dr. Tabata's office, and have beautiful smiles. My young daughter, age 8, had a complicated front tooth, 45 deg rotation, and not enough permanent teeth for full braces. Her teeth were crowed, and she was put on an expander for a few months. Very smooth start, minimal pain or discomfort at the start. After the expander came out her front four teeth got the braces to straighten out the one tooth, and now her front teeth look great. She smiles with her braces, and shows them off to her third grade classmates. read more

We love visiting Dr. Tabata ..the staff is friendly and courteous. We're fairly new patients but they know us the minute we walk in! The Ortho work we have started at another place that wanted to "extend" my son's treatment by an additional 13 months AND extract more teeth. Dr.Tabata confirmed that extra work wasn't needed. He takes time to make small talk and to show my boys and me what is needed to get that great smile. Each visit throughout the process was explained comfortably and sincerely. Don't Be Fooled by Dr. Tabata's Sweet Talk I brought two of my daughters to Dr. Tabata for orthodontic treatment. Their teeth were relatively straight - no obvious problems - so we were not even sure if they needed braces, but we wanted to be sure. Dr. Tabata told them that they needed braces and that if we did the braces with him they would "look like models" within a year. He looked at both of my daughters and said "would you like to have your braces off before high school? I can do that for you." High school started one year from when we got the braces. Everything went downhill from there. After one year, there was not only NO progress, but the girls' teeth were more crooked than when we first came in to get braces. Prior to starting braces with Dr. Tabata, my daughter had no gap between her front two teeth and her bottom teeth were straight. After one year with Dr. Tabata, there was a huge gap between her front two teeth and one of her bottom middle teeth was completely turned sideways. For the next year, I consistently talked to Dr. Tabata about my concerns and he gave me one excuse after another - none of which made any sense. It was all fluff. After 1 more year of sharing my concerns and listening to Dr. Tabata's fake talk, we finally left and went to another orthodontist. We had a similar experience with our other daughter (the twin sister). On my second daughter, Dr. Tabata actually created a gap in between her teeth that was not there before. He was unable to correct either of the girls' mouth and actually admitted that he messed up. So, two years after going in, my daughters' teeth were significantly more crooked than when we came in. To make matters worse, Dr. Tabata has NO sense of professionalism whatsoever if you question him about his treatment plan. He is completely incompetent. If you go along with what he is saying, he will smile and charm you and make you believe he knows what he is talking about. However, if you ask questions at all or have any expectation of a rational answer, he will actually get angry and refuse to talk to you. When I tried to calmly explain my concerns, he actually told me he did not have to listen to me and walked out. He then asked my daughter to leave the office without providing her treatment. He is the most unprofessional person in the medical profession I have ever encountered. I never write bad reviews about anything. I think this might be the first negative review I have ever written. I am just so shocked by how bad our experience was. I really hope this review might help someone avoid the headache my children have had with this doctor. I even met one of his assistants outside of his office who agreed with me and told me he is terrible. She said his assistants constantly talk about how bad he is. It is actually scary how little he knows about orthodontics. Don't trust this man with your child's teeth and don't be fooled by his sweet talk - it is just a façade to cover up his incompetence. read more

I strongly dislike this place and wish I would have went somewhere else. The receptionist is always talking, on the computer or too busy to acknowledge my presence and she is just rude. She keeps me waiting for a long time before she rudely notices me as if I am a pest. Hello, I'm your customer! Then the people who work there hardly know what they are doing but they don't ask us if we are okay with an inexperienced person working in my mouth. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes sometimes an hour, for the same procedure! Then they have this ridiculous schedule where everyday they switch locations from Walnut to La Verne. One time I called the La Verne number and they scheduled me at walnut without telling me. So I show up at a closed office! Plus, they switch up the schedule even more so I have no idea when they are in La Verne, it's so random and hard to make an appointment. And I hate the receptionist who says "sweetie" all the time, it just sounds condescending and tacky the way she says it. I don't like the staff they are ill-mannered. Don't let decorations, coffee and raffle fool you. They need to work on being more friendly to everyone no matter what they look like or age. Plus they never answer their phone! It seems like this office is hardly ever open. And one of the other reviews looks a little suspicious, as if the business owner wrote in a fake review.. read more

Snoring is now a thing of the past! Dr. Tabata and his friendly staff fitted me for and provided me with a "Silent Nite" mouthpiece. I wear the comfortable mouthpiece when I go to bed. After two months, my wife has not complained once about me snoring. Plus, without the snoring, my quality of sleep has improved tremendously and I wake up refreshed. Thank you Dr. T! read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ORTHODONTIST! The California Dental Association made him refund my entire $5,000 for the terrible job he did on my son's teeth. Don't be fooled by his smooth talking, carefree demeanor. My son got his braces removed after a little over two years. His teeth didn't look right to me, they all kicked inward. I was assured they were good. At the appt to get the retainer, Dr. Tabata assured me that my son's teeth had to kick inward to close up spaces - that was the only option. A couple months later we went to our dentist for a teeth cleaning. My dentist didn't like the way his teeth looked and said they weren't lining up properly. Told me to return to Dr. Tabata to re-evaluate and tell him they didn't look finished. Went to see Tabata and he told me: 1. He'd give himself a B- for the job done. 2. My son had tongue thrust. 3. My son had abnormally small teeth; and 4. He needed jaw surgery. He even told my son he'd look like "Brad Pitt" if he agreed to have jaw surgery. I told him none of those things were EVER talked about during the 2+ years of braces. I told him jaw surgery was not an option. He was very condescending and told me if we were not willing to do jaw surgery (which was the only way to fix his teeth), he would put braces back on for 6 months and "we'd get what we get and we'd have to live with it". We left and called my dentist who referred me to another orthodontist (We'll call him Dr. O) for an evaluation. At the appointment I didn't tell Dr. O where we had been or what the recommendations were. I wanted his unbiased opinion. He checked my son's bite and chuckled to himself saying "where do these teeth touch each other?" After his evaluation he said that my son would need braces for two years to line up his teeth properly. At present, only one corner of a back molar was touching the teeth below. Not one tooth surface touched the one below it. All his teeth were hanging in the air. He wondered how he even chewed food. I asked if there was anything else weird. He said, "nope just need to fix the line-up". Then I became furious! I asked about tongue thrust, small teeth, and jaw surgery. He said no on tongue thrust and small teeth and was shocked that someone would suggest jaw surgery. He suggested I call the Calif Dental Assn. I did and after getting my side of the story, records from Dr. Tabata, Dr. O's evaluation, and our primary dentists records, they had three independent orthodontists evaluate my son's teeth. All three were appalled at the job that was done by Dr. Tabata and even more appalled that he would suggest jaw surgery. At the conclusion, he had to refund my $5,000 and we went to Dr. O's office for two more years of braces. My son now has perfect teeth! read more
