As a two-time cancer survivor, I view every new lump, bump or discoloration with alarm. So when I discovered several oddly colored nodules in my mouth that had sprung up overnight, I was concerned, to say the least. I called my dentist only to find out that he was on vacation for the week. His office referred me to Dr. Brown. I called and was impressed with the friendly professional voice of Brooke on the other end of the line. Despite what must have been a very busy schedule, they squeezed me in on the same day. When I arrived, the office was clean, well-appointed and comfortable. After a very brief wait, I was ushered in by Ingrid who proceeded to take photos of the inside of my mouth. She engaged me in conversation, which helped to calm my nerves. When Dr. Brown came in, he smiled and introduced himself and, after a quick examination, he told me that he thought I had probably bitten my cheek in my sleep and that the nodules were more than likely the result of trauma. He filed and buffed a couple of sharp points on my molars that were probably the culprits, and said he would send the photos and report off to my regular dentist. He smiled, shook my hand, and wished me well. After such compassionate care, you can imagine my surprise when I was told there would be no charge, despite the time spent by he and his staff. I'm really bummed I have to leave this terrible review but this was just an awful experience I had with this business. I had their in-house insurance and they canceled it without any notification. I went in for my cleaning appointment that I had pre-booked six months in advance. They did extra services but didn't discuss any estimate or pricing with me and they certainly didn't let me know that I was now a cash paying patient upon walking in. I asked about my permanent retainer I have behind my teeth slightly poking and the dentist came in and fix it within five minutes. He didn't discuss pricing or even what he was doing. Just did it and left. Later on I found out that was $80 extra dollars for that. I would have declined as it wasn't super pressing but I wasn't given the option to even discuss it before he just did it and left. Not to mention the hygienist was incredibly unpleasant and rough the whole time. I had cuts all in my mouth for a few days after my appointment. There was a lady that was working there before who was absolutely amazing and I was bummed she wasn't there when I came in. When I walked out the lady at the front desk said "You're all set!" And I left assuming it was covered under my insurance as it had been every other appointment I have had here. Then I ended up getting a bill in the mail for $540. I called to ask why and she said they had canceled the insurance. I told her I never receive notification of that and I would not have agreed to the services if I knew the bell was going to be as such. The lady just said "It your responsibility to know whether you are insured or not." I said "OK I guess it's a little bit on me that I didn't notice you just stopped billing me without actually notifying me, but I didn't ask for all of these other services that were attached to this bill...." She absolutely did not care. It took a huge runaround just to get them to knock it down to $345. The service I pre-booked for which was a cleaning, the oral evaluation and the repair of my retainer came to $266 from the itemized bill they sent me(after I had to request it) which I told them I was willing to pay. They would not accept that and threaten to send me to collections on Nov 1st, so I had to pay $345 today. It was absolutely horrible dealing with these people and the front desk lady was incredibly rude. This dentist has no clue about the California law that he must provide a good faith estimate to cash paying patients. I felt really taken advantage of and this is just a horrible practice on their end. It's really unethical to do whatever you want to a patient and then bill them for it later for whatever you want. It's common decency to have a discussion with your patients if something will be an additional charge. I definitely do not recommend this business to anyone. Absolutely horrible business practice. read more

Went in for a crown replacement today with Dr Brown. The office is very warm and genuinely friendly. Dr Brown was very informative on each step and what he was doing and what I should expect in sounds and etc going on in my mouth. I was very comfortable the whole time and really like the relaxed atmosphere. So glad I've found my new dentist. read more

How much can I rave about this office and Dr. Brown? They are excellent, professional, very kind and the best! Dr. Brown tells you what he's going to do and asks if you're okay, and he's funny and patient and relaxed. Also, Karen is amazing and always does her best to help you out if you need an appointment in a hurry because something went wrong, like a filling coming out. His staff is great, very professional but friendly and caring. I have been going to Dr. Brown for several years and so glad I heard about them. They are so friendly and caring. Sandy is the best!!!! She explains things to where you can understand, she shows you where the problem is with their up-to-date technology. They know who you are when you walk in the door, even 6 months later (that was after my 2nd visit). Dr. Brown is so down to earth, caring man. I love that I can go and they take time to listen to my concerns, find the problem and provide resolutions quickly. All the while taking time to get to know you and you them. I went to Dr. Brown for about a year while i was living in Chico. His office was close to where I lived, and my fiance at the time was going there as well. Now, I didn't know there was a problem with him until I needed a filling done in the front, and my mouth just wouldn't stay numb - it was a very uncomfortable situation because he just kept giving me more shots to numb the area - and the numbing just went up my face. My nose was so numb it hurt, and even my eyebrows and forehead were numb - but my teeth still felt the drilling. After the 3rd time, he lost it - he was no longer professional, he was pissed that I wasn't numb. He eventually just finished the filling with me feeling it the whole time. There wasn't much else he could do. To add to that instance, he also refused to believe I was allergic to fluoride and proceeded to convince me to let him cover my teeth in a high-concentration fluoride goo... that resulted in my gums sloughing, a lot of pain, and the kinds of things that make you afraid to ever go see a dentist again. This was when I decided I was never coming back. To make my experience even worse, one of the fillings I'd gotten when I first started coming to his office had extra filling material pooled between my teeth. The filling had caused me pain for almost a year, and he still said "sometimes that just happens" no x-ray, no further concern. I found out about the excess filling material when I changed dentists - the new dentist cleaned up the filling and my pain went away. Sadly, that tooth wound up needing a root canal a while after. I can only speculate that the additional pressure and pain for over a year didn't help that tooth. His staff is very friendly and helpful, I never had any problem with anyone else in his office - but sadly, that doesn't make up for bad dental work. My husband also has his own story, but since it's my review - I'll leave it to him to add his experience separately. He wasn't afraid of dentists before Dr. Brown - now he is. I strongly discourage anyone from visiting Dr. Brown, especially since all that happened in only a year. Find a better dentist, my husband and I did. read more

Love this dentist! Very nice and extremely gentle ( which is good since I hate to have dental work done in general). Office has state of the art equipment. Would highly recommend Dr. Brown. My husband works with many dentist and also highly recommends his practice. read more
