Although I live in NYC, I was able to easily communicate with him for a custom ring. I was searching for nature inspired rings and ended up choosing one of his nature fairy designs. I had the setting made with platinum and the stone to be pink topaz. I was pretty hesitant to spend a large amount of money on Etsy, but I really liked the ring. After ordering the ring I received it about a week or two after. Unfortunately it had come with the wrong stone (sapphire, although I ordered pink topaz). I can not think of enough kind things to say about my experience at David K Jewelers. My engagement ring was technically my grandmother's anniversary band. It's a special sentimental piece and I wanted to find a wedding band which would compliment it. The band consists of two rows of diamonds on top and tapers to have a thin band underneath. This means that a traditional band will not fit next to it's irregular shape. David K was very kind to us when I showed him the ring. He was happy to design a band for us. He has a stunning selection of bands to choose from in the store, I showed him a few of my favorites and we sat down and talked about the ring and a design concept. He took a few notes and sketched a design right there on the spot. I could tell that he enjoys his job and takes great pride in his work. My fiance and I said we would go to lunch and think about it. We didn't even get out of the building before deciding on David K. We had gone to two other places that morning. None of which were bad, they were all good, but it's different when you speak to a designer vs a sales person. I handed over my grandmother's ring to David so he could take a mold of the ring. 10 days later we picked up the wedding band. It was even more beautiful than I hoped for. Let me start by critiquing myself. I am an adamant researcher and look for great quality and service when making purchases. That being said, I was referred to David as someone whom would meet my standards with no problems. I met with David approximately 6 months prior to purchasing her engagement ring. At that time I was only looking around to educate myself on the ins and outs of purchasing stones and boy was it an involved process. My first meeting with David, he was extremely patient, confident and passionate about 1) the process, 2) the stones and 3) my comfort level. David spoke to me about the cut, clarity, color, size, table, girdle and ratio of the stone. We spoke about the differences between EGL and GIA certifications. He NEVER tried to sell me not one single stone, instead he offer his opinion and gave me the time to make my own decisions. Once I was finally ready to purchase, I had ideas for what the design of the ring should look like. I actually drew pictures from my head, I brought designs from other websites and I had a tear out from a magazine that she mentioned that she liked. I brought all of these in to David and we sat and discussed my fiance's personality and what I wanted the ring to say. From there I had a choice of picking from a few common designs in David's display OR choose a few of David's personal custom designs but I chose to design a ring that combined all of the designs that I brought in. Then we looked a stones.... My fiancee likes the round cut. I wanted the best stone within my spending range and Thankfully David doesn't even recommend stones that are not reflective of his work or knowledge. He some how found a way to get me the brilliant stone that I wanted with going over my budget. (It probably helped that my education with David helped me to look for something realistic). David's passion for his craft is nothing compared to his ability to consult and educate me on the things I needed to know to get my wifey the best engagement that I could. He helped me to pour everything that I had into this ring; and he did this with such class and grace. I demand excellence in all that I do and David is one of very few people that takes it above and beyond. After getting the stone, it was time to make the ring. David then took a look and gave me a date as to when he could finish custom designing my ring to all of my specifications. Make it a one-of-a-kind!!! A million "THANK YOU's to DAVID"... David just completed our 2 wedding bands and a redesign/set of my engagement ring. His displays are awesome, and I couldn't feel better about David being our jeweler! We've met with him three times now after being referred by a happy bride and groom. And I can see why they love him. We love our rings so much - we feel they really reflect our taste and personality. David hand made my band set with diamonds in a unique high-craft style called French micro pave. It is so delicate and finely done that I almost lost it when I saw it for the first time. I couldn't have imagined it any more perfect or perfect for me! My Groom's ring also had to be made and its so manly and yet refined, I just can't get over how great it looks and how well it reflects his personality! He was wearing it all weekend and we're not married yet. The first jeweler my fiance went to was, like most of them, just a salesman, not a designer, and when he heard Fiance was getting married, basically the first thing he said was, "Can I talk you out of it?" Fiance left shortly after that. The jewelers we saw after our first visit with David for comparison were also just sales people, needing to ask the boss this and that, with a lot of generic choices. Even the man who sold Fiance my original ring was a bit abrasive toward me later and sized my ring wrong. How different is David? We were finalizing our designs and he told my fiance, "You are really like a superhero. I really believe that. When we men decide to propose, men are like superheroes for making that big decision!" I can see what he means and Fiance liked hearing it too! David's selection is nice and elegant, just like him. And the service is personal and kind of fun - which is great because there are plenty of nerves when shopping for jewelry. Value for money - David is very fair -we truly got a good deal. I would trust him with anything. He bends over backwards to be of service and informative, he's friendly, available and his space is really clean, bright and welcoming. If there were 10 stars David definitely would deserve it! I walk in on a Saturday morning into the 550 building looking for a high end jeweler but extremely nervous! I was a first time buyer in a engagement ring for my fiancé (she said yes!) and I had absolutely no clue what color, clarity, cut, carat & polish I wanted, in fact I only thought there were color and clarity to diamonds and how big you wanted it! Before going to David, I had visited a few places in my city and I felt like they just wanted to get the most money I could spend. They would ask for my budget and show me diamonds and rings to the maximum budget or even a few thousand higher. I won't name the stores however they were all too aggressive to sell me something for the highest amount that I could spend. I had seen a few reviews on a few jewelers but David K Jewelers really made me feel the most comfortable with for some reason. So I tried him first, I step in and with a big smile on his face he greets me, asks me if I'd like any beverages, sits me down, and quickly educates me on diamonds after I had mentioned what I was coming in for and not knowing anything about diamonds. His explanation not only educated me but made me realize exactly what I was looking for. We ended up going with a J color 2.08 carat vs1 diamond GIA certified which is widely encouraged over EGL for a much more accurate grading. The price was affordable and actually before deciding I have to admit I quickly did a little online search for the same specs and carat from the major online diamond dealers and David saved me $4,000+ In short, David took his time educating me, helping me find the best ring to match the stone, made the whole experience feel very stressless and comfortable that it felt like I knew David for years and he was just a friend helping me get engaged rather than a scary money hungry retailer trying to sell the most expensive thing to your budget! There's a lot to think about when buying an engagement ring and it can get overwhelming at times. I had gone to several jewelers already, when I decided to meet with a jeweler my friend recommended to me--David. I loved that his showroom, on the 5th floor, was more private than in a busy mall. I was able to take my time and not feel like I was talking to a salesman. I could tell that David was passionate about his work. His years of experience showed as he was super knowledgable and patient when I asked him a ton of questions. When selecting a stone, he walked me through, step-by-step, on what to look for, what the ratings mean, and made me a lot more comfortable with the whole process. He even showed me some of the "imperfections" under a microscope. I also knew going into it, that I wanted to custom design the ring with a few meaningful details. Taking great notes, David was able to sketch exactly what I was asking for. He was then able to whip up a computer rendering in just a week--which really allowed me to visualize what it would look like. The end result was even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined (verified by my fiance's radiant smile as she said, "yes!"). My wife recently lost a diamond in her wedding ring and so she decided that she would get an entire new engagement ring, and wedding ring. We went to downtown LA to one of the jewelers who is highly recommended on yelp. That place had a lot of rings on display, but the sales person was extremely pushy and not very helpful after all. We left that place and on our way to the elevator saw David K Jewelers. It was a smaller place, but David showed us what he had on display, which included, custom rings, and other jewelry and all were beautiful. We could've brought a picture of what we wanted, and he simply would've made the wedding ring. We ended up buying a wedding and engagement ring from him primarily for two reasons. One, he spends a lot of time with you. He educated us and was not pushy at all. He is a very nice and humble guy and worked with us within our budget. We actually went a little bit over our budget because the quality of the diamonds for the price was so good. We wanted the wedding ring before our weekend anniversary celebration, and he accommodated by allowing us to pick up the finished ring at his house. Sorry, but you're not gonna get that kind of customer service anywhere. Anyway, I don't write a lot of yelp reviews, but the experience was so positive, I decided to take the time.
