We hired David for our wedding. Whenever we reached out to him, he always replied back, he arrived to our wedding on time, and played many of the songs we discussed in our planning meetings. He also was self sufficient with his setup in different locations of the venue. However, I would not hire him for another event. Throughout the planning process, and especially during the wedding day, he seemed unprepared. For example, during the planning process he confused my husband and me with another client, even sending us Zoom links and text messages not pertaining to our event. We understand that these mix-ups can happen, as he's a busy guy, but it continued on our actual wedding day, which got me upset. Even though we had two planning meetings and wrote a detailed sheet of the names of our wedding party, he called my husband the wrong name multiple times over the microphone. Also, when doing the grand entrance, he announced my mother as a different name, despite it being on the planning sheet. Additionally, our guests told us that announcements made throughout the wedding were unclear and that they missed certain aspects (e.g., cake cutting, dessert out, bouquet toss) because of this. read more

Of all the weddings my husband and I have recently attended, he did the best job. He was very timely in his responses when I had questions, he was extremely organized during the preparation process. He helped us think of everything and prepare for our wedding. He also worked very well with our coordinator and other vendors. After our wedding all of our guests had nothing but praise for him and positive things to say about him. We gave him a lot of freedom to play the songs he wanted, some advice, and told him the type of songs we liked. But he played all the right songs, and everyone was on the dance floor the whole night. My wedding planner suggested David and we're so happy we listened to her! He DJed and also MCed our wedding. Our guests looooved David, he played upbeat, current and age-appropriate music for the cocktail hour, dinner reception and dancing segment. My now-husband and I booked him early in the planning process, like 9-months out, but we didn't really work with him till 9 or 10 weeks away from the wedding day. He will ask you to fill out a questionnaire of your wedding party and family for introductions, reception program, and music for all parts of the program. David was very entertaining and professional, seriously, our guests were amazed by our DJ/MC choice! He was professional as in taking our delicate family introductions seriously--divorced parents and memorial acknowledgments, and even the centerpiece giveaway game was hilarious and appropriate. David is very good at reading the wedding guests "vibe" and his song selection was so on point. Some songs I was surprised (and happy!) he played because we had such a diverse group: a mix of current and 2000's pop, dance, disco/funk and 90's hip-hop. My husband and I loved it so much we asked David for the song history so we could create our wedding day Spotify playlist! My husband and I are very relieved that we went with David's suggestions on music choices because if we had it our way, we would have only played the type of music we liked. David convinced us to play a variety of party music so the majority of our guests will recognize the songs and dance/sing along (and for the hip-hop, David played the radio-edit versions, hah!). Also, David is South African so his accent was another entertaining bonus for our guests! Definitely made our female guests swoon! I won't give too much away, but David threw in some touching songs, which my husband and I were so grateful for. I'm a wedding coordinator and have had the pleasure of working with David on several occasions. Let me just say that he is ALWAYS a big hit at the weddings. As an event/wedding planner for DNT Elite Events, we know that it's crucial to find the right team of vendors to make the event/wedding day run flawlessly... We need to work well as a team, and make sure we always have the client's best interests in mind. When it comes to the DJ/MC specifically, we are so selective because it's his/her responsibility to make sure the sound system is working properly, the music cues are spot on, there are no awkward silences, and the guests are continually engaged... They also have to be accommodating, flexible, easy to work with (both with the client and with the planner) and find that right balance of emceeing just enough, but not too much... The DJ/MC really has to be on point! There are a ton of DJ/MC's out there, but only a few that fit this criteria (in my humble opinion, and I've worked with A LOT of them)... And I can honestly say that DJ David is all of the above! I thought I was getting a Chippendale, but instead I got this dodgy nutter... and he's not even Australian! I guess, shame on me for thinking all of those accents sounds the same... I hired David Newton to be the Emcee of my wedding, and I couldn't have been happier. When I first interviewed him, I didn't honestly know what an emcee was or if I needed one. When I said this to David in our initial interview his answer was a wry, "Sounds like you'll be a tough sell..." So let me tell you what he actually DID to improve upon my wedding. I'll focus on the things I didn't expect and assure you that whatever you ARE expecting, he'll do as well. (Because obviously, I expected him to entertain my guests while sounding vaguely British, and he did those, but those are both obvious.) The first thing: He made us a schedule of the course of events we'd do throughout our wedding day. He told me to send it to my photographer and event coordinator at our venue and said, "Everything will flow better if all of your vendors are on the same page, even though, let's be honest, they're going to completely ignore MY timeline. But that's okay. Trust me, it works." And it did work. The proactive vendor communication turned our wedding into a clockwork engagement. He also confirmed details like a pro. For example, my wife sent David a cell phone pic of some hand written notes she wanted him to use on the day of the event, and it didn't all make sense. When he asked me to confirm what everything meant, he reiterated a few times, "If you don't have time to deal with this I can figure it out, but I wanted to give you a chance to respond if you wanted to." (He also knew not to bug my wife who had sent in the last minute notes, as she was then in hair and makeup.) David worked with both of my photographers on the day of the event to make sure things flowed smoothly for them. He made announcements pertaining to photographs and also helped corrall our wedding party of 14 to the places they needed to be at the times they needed to be there. He made sure the timing of the parent dances/toasts fit well into the evening. There were no abrupt halts to squeeze in one more "clinking glass." He organized a flow that felt totally organic. Lastly - he DID entertain my guests, got people out of their seats, kept people dancing, and ensured we had the night of our lives. But the #1 reason I am recommending David Newton is that he set me at ease in a way that let me know even if something went wrong, he had it under control. I told him right before the ceremony, "I work with a lot of the people in that room. If I start to make a fool of myself, I need you to stop me." His reassuring words will stay with me forever: "I will wrestle you to the ground if I need to, my friend." For whatever your party needs, David Newton is your man. The Babe Ruth of your Bar Mitzvah? David played a huge part in making our wedding amazing! We booked him about 10 months out and did a quick phone call to just introduce ourselves and discuss some very general ideas. He immediately sent us some planning sheets, which helped us a great deal in keeping track of music we still needed to decide on (for both the ceremony and the reception). About three months out, the contact with David intensified. We met in person once to go over the planning sheets, which we had partially filled out and decided on what still needed to be done. During this process David had some real good suggestions on how to incorporate some ideas we had and make our day extra special. We had another quick phone call about one week before our wedding to make sure everything was set and discussed some last minute changes we wanted to make. David was super flexible with all of this and reassured us that everything was going to be just the way we wanted. Everything went super great on the day of our wedding. David worked with our other vendors to make the day go smooth. He played the music we wanted during our ceremony, right on queue and at a perfect volume. He did all the introductions during our reception, with respect and a great sense of humor, and kept the whole night flowing.
