We hired David for our wedding (which happened over this past weekend). We felt it was important that everyone, and David by extension, be made aware immediately how awesome David is - and extend our enormous gratitude to him. One aspect of our wedding we were nervous about was the DJ - it is the one area where a bit of control has to be relinquished and can be a very large X factor. Within 2 minutes of speaking to David for the first time we knew he was the one he wanted to work with - he was calm, extremely detailed, we felt zero burden or stress and his immense wedding experience came through even from the preliminary chat. We spoke with David over 3 calls to run through the music we liked, the first dances, run of the event, etc. He was always giving of his time and was fully prepared day of the wedding! The wedding itself was a huge success - he expertly 'tricked' our entire 150 guests onto the dance floor and after 3 hours the floor we had suffered minimal guest losses :) He was brilliant at reading the floor, playing genres that appealed to all and keeping the energy upbeat and high all night. We had also asked him to play 'soca' music which is a genre of music from Trinidad and Tobago - he was unfamiliar with it at first, but familiarized himself through playlists and was just unbelievable and mixing soca seamlessly into the night. The after party was somehow even more powerful and energetic than the wedding itself - I don't know how David managed to keep the energy so high for so long. But after hours of partying, while exhausted, the party ended on such a high and happy note. To top it all off, David was an expert emcee. He commanded the night confidently and was seamless in the introductions and took off what could have been a ton of stress from us through his masterful handling of the event. OH MY GOSH. THIS GUY. HIRE HIM. HIRE HIM NOW. Hiring a DJ/Emcee was pretty much the last thing on our list. Our venue gave us a list of DJs they prefer we use, one of which being Vox DJs. After speaking with someone there, we were recommended several DJs from their selection - David being one. Quite honestly, when I watched his short video sharing himself on their website, I immediately fell in love with his accent! I told my fiance we HAD to have him! David also said how he can tell you all about the music he loves, but it's not about him at YOUR event - it's about YOU and YOUR favorite song! Which, you know, isn't common for emcees to say... Sadly enough. We secured David, but since we are located in San Diego and he is in LA, we had to Facetime to get our wedding in order. No problem at all! He had sent some questioniarres about what we want our day to be like - music we chose, ceremony and reception, etc etc. It was a little overwhelming but I think that was just because we didn't know what we wanted for so many things! When we spoke with him, he was entirely calm, collected, excited for us and our day, very reassuring of what we didn't know - because he DOES know! AND to top it all off! He was drinking iced coffee out of a mason jar while we spoke! (These are crucial details to me! It means he fits with us, we mesh!) We felt terrible as he had a rough week and had an extremely busy week ahead (our wedding was in 6 days from speaking with him), but he remained optimistic and excited and didn't let anything hinder his enthusiasm and focus. Mind you, I was emailing/texting this poor guy the morning of our wedding (which was May 28th of 2017 - little behind with the review - sorry David!) with some song choices because I couldn't make decisions! Making small adjustments on our timeline because we had a little change, etc.. He rolled with everythinggggg. Seriously he's a PRO! Of all the vendors, I think David was my favorite to work with! He was SO fun! So funny! Professional, yet brought everyone together in a casual way. SO easy to work with - incredibly flexible. He will be as involved or as uninvolved as you want him! We want to get married all over again just to have David again! (And so he can dress more casually, since I forgot to relay this was a country/casual wedding - jeans ok!) We received tons of compliments on him, followed with "Where did you find this guy?? He's amazing!" If you have any concerns about a DJ/emcee, put them to rest. He will take care of your event. He will make sure your day is focused on you and how you want it. He is incredible easy to speak to and very pleasant to work with! David is your guy! He's our guy for life! read more

We had David DJ/MC our wedding a couple years ago, but I'm just now getting around to writing reviews ‍ however....better late than never to sing his praises!! David was the very best from start to finish. He made sure to have open and thorough communication with us leading up to our big day, which we were so grateful for because it left us feeling so confident and at ease. He has so many skills, some of which include being an A+ people person, connecting with our guests (making them feel like instant friends), as well as having mind reading wizard skills, being able to perfectly read the crown and know exactly what song to play to evoke whatever specific mood/vibe is needed for that moment. My husband and I booked David for our wedding this past November after we saw him at another friend's wedding and couldn't stay off the dance floor! Throughout the entire planning process he was soo great to work with. While we had some preferences on songs, David was able to take the reins on picking out a lot of the music which made it so much more stress free. David Newton is a great choice for a wedding DJ and emcee. We actually saw him first at a friend's wedding. He helped coerce a fairly quiet crowd into dancing. For our own wedding, we remembered him and quickly chose him when we saw he was available. Prior to the wedding, David sent us a pretty detailed music worksheet, asking us for examples of music (genres, artists, or specific songs) we'd like to have played during each phase of the wedding (cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, etc). He gave us good suggestions (his favorites) for each phase, and we largely stuck with those. A week prior to the wedding, we went over the worksheet and made sure we were in agreement. He had a bunch of suggestions which we largely followed, since he's got much more experience at weddings than we do. We didn't have a wedding coordinator, so David offered to help run things. On the day of the wedding, David arrived a couple hours early to set up lights and the music. He basically ran the grand entrance, which was nice because by that point my wife and I were pretty tired of organizing things. For the dancing, David did an excellent job of reading the crowd, starting with classic dancing music and transitioning into more contemporary music as the night went on and the older folks left. My wife and I originally said we weren't wild about hip hop music, but David read the crowd, and (after checking with us) played what the audience wanted. He really knows what he's doing. read more

DAVID is AMAZING!! David was our wedding DJ last weekend and he did an absolutely amazing job. We have been getting soo many compliments about our DJ and how he played such a great set. Weddings can be difficult because everyone has different taste in music... so to get so many compliments from people ranging all different ages is GREAT. David was an 11 out of 10. And this rating is coming from someone that has former DJ experience. David DJ'd my brother's wedding a week ago at Bel-Air Country Club. It was big stakes and he killed it. He kept the dance floor packed the entire time. ENTIRE time. Furthermore, his choice of songs walked the perfect line between dance pop that people really do want to hear and some deeper cuts that people love to hear but DJ's rarely play. Not to mention, he was an AWESOME MC for the night (he has standup comedy experience I believe). I will be recommending David to everyone. After extensive research and talking to many other DJs, David was recommended to us by our wedding planner and we couldn't have asked for a better DJ for our wedding. We had several live performances including a surprise serenade medley by the groom and David integrated them seamlessly into the program so that the night flowed smoothly. He collaborated with us to incorporate the music and aspects we wanted, but also gave us good advice and guidance based on his experience. He certainly has a high DJ I.Q. His musical choice was spot on - we still can't believe his insight to play Piano Man at the end! He knew strategies to get everyone on the dancefloor. One of our favorite moments was when he taught and then led our packed dancefloor of all ages in the Cupid Shuffle and the Wobble. He is charming, professional, positive and humble. We heard many "best wedding DJ ever" comments from guests both that night and since. In my experience with wedding receptions, the DJs either make or break the party. That being said, I was nervous to select and hire a DJ for our wedding. My wedding coordinator recommended David Newton to me, and I am so thankful that I went with her suggestion! David was professional and organized but also fun and energetic, and he did everything I could have asked him to do to make both our ceremony and reception go off without a hitch. For example, I was very particular about when I wanted certain verses of my processional song played, and he nailed it! He also had the vast majority of our guests joyously dancing the night away (and he even joined in on the dancing). David was the DJ/MC for my Daughter's backyard wedding in June 2020. As the date drew near, and the plans changed several times due to the restrictions from Covid-19, David was a calming voice throughout. When our officiant politely declined with health concerns, David, who is also ordained, stepped up and gladly stepped in. In his role as officiant, he made things so easy on the bride and groom. Whatever they wanted was fine with David. The ceremony went off without a hitch. I think he enjoyed himself as much as we all did. And he did all of this while operating the ceremony music, which we made sure he could set up close where he was standing for the ceremony. He nailed each requested song just as the bride and groom requested. Don't underestimate the importance of this last statement. (We have been to other weddings, with different DJs, where the ceremony songs were not queued up per the Bride's instructions, and that made for one unhappy bride). After the ceremony, David managed the rest of the evening (speeches, 1st Dances, etc.) like a pro and engaged the whole party while doing so. Do yourself a favor! Hands down best DJ ever! One of the things that was most important to my husband and I was getting a great DJ for our wedding and fortunately we found David. Throughout the entire planning process up until the very end of the night David was a pleasure to work with. He was very professional and very attentive to what we wanted and to what our guests wanted. Not only did he do a great job with the music, but because of his background in stand up, he was an amazing emcee. Our venue had another party in the room right next to us and during our toasts they were being loud. Pretending we couldn't hear it would have been awkward because they were so loud, instead he made a game of it. After toasts, he said "They are loud, let's be louder" and immediately our guests took that as a challenge accepted. Everyone was ready to party well before dinner was even over. In fact while everyone was still in their seats, our tables started a sing off battle with Piano Man. Such a wonderful night. David even got away from his table once in a while to party with us.
