One of the things I will miss most about San Diego besides the good Japanese food is Dr. Schreiner . She is Dr. Eshom's (newish) associate and goodness, I truly had the luck of the teeth gods with me by having her as my dentist for the past few months. While I would probably recommend Dr. Eshom if you're looking for more cosmetic treatment, I wholly recommend Dr. Schreiner for your more typical dental needs. She accepts Delta (that means you, UCSD grad students!) and is really one of the sweetest but also most careful dentists I've met. She's fairly young but extremely thorough when examining teeth/X-rays and conducting fillings. What impressed me most about her was her gentleness combined with her perfectionism. Even if she doesn't do cosmetic dentistry now, I imagine that if/when she does, these qualities will make her excellent at it. Perhaps what I am most grateful for is Dr. Schreiner's willingness to work with my student budget in determining a suitable treatment plan for my dire teeth. Unfortunately, I left San Diego before we could finish this entire plan, but Dr. Schreiner really addressed the worst of my cavities. I haven't experienced any pain since the week after the fillings were done (although I did increase my flossing frequency as well as introduce unsweetened Greek yogurt back into my diet) and for that, I really have to thank Dr. Schreiner. I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Eshom and his staff!! :) I did a lot of research on Invisalign and dentists who perform Invisalign treatment. Dr. Eshom was always at the top of the list! I just completed my Invisalign treatment and I couldn't be happier with the results! Dr. Eshom was warm and friendly from the beginning. He helped me feel much more at ease with the process. He took the time to listen to my concerns, answer all of my questions, and to show me the potential results. He is very patient - I had a lot of questions! Towards the end of my treatment I felt like I wanted to make an additional change to how my teeth moved in a certain area of my mouth. Dr. Eshom completed a new scan and sent off for more trays for me at no additional cost. He assured me that he would work with me until I was happy with my results. From start to finish, the entire process took about 7 months and I am happy as can be! Brooke was also amazing to work with! She helped me develop the smile I was looking for. She bent over backwards to find innovative solutions to help mold my smile. I am so thankful of her and her advice! The girls at the front desk are also very friendly and kind. Amber was amazing at figuring out the best plan when it came to my insurance and my portion of the cost. Dr. Eshom's cost was one of the lowest I saw for Invisalign during my extensive research. Horrible money hungry place where pressure is applied for you to make full payment, and false promises are common. Starting with their false advertising with $2,900 price and once they get you there they jack up the price to $5,000. Then they tell you to have your cavity fixed first, and come back for plate samples later. Then they change the story to them having ordered the plates already. The reviews even talk about them saying that your insurance will cover it and later you find out that your great insurance does not cover this practice. I do not recommend this place. Stay away unless you like surprises. My bad is not having read the reviews. I fell for the $2,900 bait. Now I find the advertised free consultation was not really free. It's only if you pay Reply to Dentist David comment: David, I disagree with your rebuttal. It is true we never met before, but after reading some of your reviews, I better understand who you are, and why you don't want to refund the $4,000 I paid in advance under pressure in good faith. I'm glad you recognize you falsely advertise a $2,900 treatment that was jacked up to $5,000 and then dropped to $4,000 after you felt I was about to leave. I did feel pressured to pay as stated by other people in your reviews. You never came out to greet me and to provide the excellent customer service you falsely advertise. Your dental representative required that I have a cavity removed before proceeding. I planned to do that and then come back so you can measure and order the plates. Look at the record from your assistant. You don't have the facts. If someone ordered trays, it was in error. A few days after my visit during the holidays, being sick and having time to think, I decided not to move forward, and I emailed requesting a refund. For you not wanting to provide a full refund and charge me $500 when I well know that you didn't do anything, or order any plates because I had to fix my molar first that would changed the shape of my teeth makes me think you either are not being told the truth, or you are lying. I was supposed to come back and then you were going to take the sample after my cavity repair and then order the plates. This is finally a dental office to my liking , I just had a cleaning done and couldn't believe what magic Lori did, I had very stained teeth as I'm an avid coffee drinker with lots of fillings (where the border between filling and tooth collects stain easily) and I walked out looking like I had a tooth whitening done! No stain left and my smile is perfectly white :). Looking forward to my next appointment . I can't say enough good things about Dr. Nip and the team at Dr. Eshom's office. 2 months ago, I woke up with a severe pain in my tooth and I called Dr. Eshom's office and was scheduled for an appointment that same day. Dr. Nip is the doctor that took care of me for a total of 6 appointments, along with his assistants Joann and Stevie. All 3 of them were so amazing. My tooth needed a root canal and internal bleaching and by the end of the process, Dr. Nip and his team gave me a whole new smile. They were all so kind, patient, informative and professional and I have found my dentist for life! They are comparable in price with other dentists and are very accommodating in every way. Over a month ago I was in for a cleaning and was told that I needed work that would be substantial on one of my teeth and was told it could be done at Dr Eshom office. I asked for the cost associated with the work and how much insurance would be paying for the process. I have not received any communication from their office regarding these two questions. It took over three months this spring for someone to initially respond to the referral when I was told that this work would have to be done by someone else. I went to visit my dentist from Hawaii, Dr.Kris Nip, who is doing his residency with Dr.David Eshom. My first impression of the office was how wonderful everyone was! Wonderful service! Considering I'm a nervous wreck whenever I go to the dentist, it says a lot that this was the most pleasant experience at a dentist I've ever had. This establishment is the model of sound business and customer service. I have the best experience here and it's only my 2nd visit. The staff, the technology used and the extra personal touches (warm neck pillow, a hand wrap, shades, tv during the dental work) all make you want to come back. Dr. Eshom operates with fine precision. I commented he was very swift and calculated. I had three routines in one visit and it took less than an hour! I love he walks you though every step, asks how you're doing and keep you relaxed. Dr. Eshom and his staff are friendly, and the location of the office is pretty easy to find. I visited for a consultation for teeth bonding, because I grind my teeth a lot and wanted an option that didn't require veneers (my tooth structure is great...I just grind them too much!). Dr. Eshom examined me and said my case was rare, and instead of saying he couldn't help me at all, he actually took the time to meet with other dentists to come up with a solution, which he did. I just recently moved to San Diego, and before I found a dentist one of my molars broke in half - at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. Great. So I put out a couple of messages to dentists with good reviews on Yelp, and Dr. Eshom responded first, and got me an appointment at my first availability on Monday. My experience in his office was great: friendly, professional staff, "patch" for my broken tooth until the next appointment could be made to do the full repair. Highly recommended! read more

Dr. Eshom changed my life! Yes I know this sounds so dramatic but it is true! All my life I was always that one girl that NEVER smiled with my teeth showing! My teeth were small and crooked I just hated them! For as long as I can remember I knew I've one day I was going to get veneers! I've been experiencing the dreaded toothache for the past 3 days. What's worse is that I do not have dental insurance right now- long story.... I called Dr. Eshom's office because of the good reviews, and they were able to make an appointment for me the next day, before their regular hours. This was amazing- seeing as though lots of dental offices are closed this week. The office is immaculate. I worked with Cynthia primarily, and she was so considerate and professional. They offered me a hot neck pillow, and blanket. Dr. Eshom was very professional and warm as well. The equipment is state of the art. I got a clear picture of the damage my bad crown was causing to my gums. They gave me a straight forward quote for services, and even though their office closes early tomorrow, offered to fit me in before they closed for the day. They were understanding of the financial strain, and offered to 1) give me a limited exam for a lesser rate, and 2) apply that rate to the balance. There's also a yelp deal right now that will give you $100 off. Even with this, I still could not afford the services. However, if I could, I would definitely trust Dr. Eshom and Cynthia with the disaster that is my mouth! read more

I've only been a patient of Dr. Eshom's since 2007, but he is one of the best dentists I've ever had. I was shocked to read of the negative experiences other yelpers report, because my experiences have been nothing but stellar. Dr. Eshom has saved a couple of my teeth (read the background story below) and has always rendered superior dental care in a calm and beautiful setting. His front and back office staff are very competent, professional, warm and helpful and I've had terrific hygienists. Cynthia and Susan in the front office deserve special mention: simply put, they are awesome. Dr. Eshom communicates well with his staff and they all work as a team to deliver the best possible care and achieve the best outcomes. He has done both a partial crown and some cosmetic touch-up work (I've had bonding to cover up a gap between my two front teeth for almost three decades), and has fitted me with a night guard as I grind my teeth like a demon at night. Details: I came to Dr. Eshom after a disastrous, botched cavity filling (courtesy of La Jolla Dental Group-but that's a different story) that caused an otherwise healthy tooth to decay almost down to the nerve. Dr. Eshom saved my tooth with a partial crown. A few years later as a result of grinding my teeth, I cracked a back molar in two. Another partial crown saved the tooth, and he fitted me with a night guard to protect my teeth. Yes, he IS expensive and he doesn't take insurance (but Susan files the claims and I usually get a check in a couple of weeks), but he also guarantees his services. Recently on a teeth cleaning visit, he noticed the contacts between one of the partial crowns he installed and the neighboring tooth were gone, and he re-installed a completely new partial--at no cost to me. We couldn't be sure if the loss of contact was due to my teeth grinding (which would be my fault, not his), or if it was a flaw in the work he'd done. But the thing that I really appreciated was his honesty and his concern about my oral health, and his willingness to give me a new partial-FOR FREE-regardless of whether it resulted from my failure to wear the night guard! How many people in this world stand by their work like that? Not many. And yes-I've had hygienists recommend fancy electric toothbrushes and suggest that I come in every 3 months instead of every 6 months, but I've *never* been pressured to purchase anything unnecessary. And I have never had anyone, least of all Dr. Eshom, recommend a $3000 laser cleaning package. (Although I do opt for the laser cleaning whenever I come in for prophylaxis, which is like an extra $30.00, I think.) What I have experienced, in summary, is: 1) Zen-like decor that is soothing and makes me feel like I'm at a spa instead of the dentists' office 2) Warm, friendly, helpful staff 3) complimentary home bleaching kit 4) complimentary warm parrafin moisturizing hand treatments at every teeth cleaning, 5) warmed-up neck pillows for comfortable support in the cleaning chair 6) warm blankets for longer visits when I'm in the chair in a cold room 7) an adjustable flat-panel HD TV screen that is positioned directly above me in the chair and tuned to whatever channel I wish to watch while dental work is being done 8) State of the art dental equipment and procedures in a sparkling clean office 9) The very best, gentle, dental care, expertly rendered by Dr. Eshom and his staff. read more

I saw Dr. Lisa for an evaluation and cleaning. I normally hate going to the dentist because 1. I hate the floss lecture, 2. I think I have pretty nice teeth which I take pretty good care of but somehow I usually leave the dentist feeling bad about my teeth? and 3. I have trust issues with most dentists and have had a general used car salesman vibe when dealing with many of them. I originally went to Dr. Eshom's office when I was interested in Invisaligns early 2013. Dr. Eshom and his staff are all very professional and friendly. The process was as easy as I could have imagined. If anyone is interested in getting Invisaligns, this is definitely the place I'd recommend getting them. The results were better than I expected, and I didn't need any extra trays afterwards. I was in the process of moving, as I got closer to the last few trays, and they got me all the trays I needed to finish. Made my life so much easier, and my teeth came out exactly how I wanted them to be. A friend of mine was telling me her horror stories of going to her dentist shortly before I went to Dr. Eshom. Our experience was completely opposite. We both hadn't been to the dentist for a long time, so needless to say, we both needed some work done. While her dentist made her feel uncomfortable and irresponsible, Dr. Eshom took a completely different approach. That alone was huge for me. I mainly dealt with Neveen throughout my year of doing Invisaligns. She's amazing. Dr. Eshom and her helped me with all the original paper work, pictures, and molds, so I could get started. A few weeks later I had my first trays. You're definitely in good hands if you get the pleasure of dealing with her. Amber at the front desk is awesome. Always greets you with a nice smile and helps you with whatever you need. I would also highly recommend their Hygienists, if you want to have regular cleanings. I was originally going to need a deep cleaning, but because she did such a great job, I was able to avoid having to get one. Saving money is always a plus. Before moving across the country I actually saw Dr. Eshom's youtube channel, I thought it was ironic that when I moved to California, that his facilities are not too far away from my new home in California. Sigh...I'm sad my time with Dr. Eshom and his team has come to an end since I moved out of state! My year long Invisalign treatment went so smoothly and perfect. I have been a patient of Dr. Eshom's for 20 years now (I'm 39), and he is the best medical professional I have ever met. He and his staff provide exceptional quality dental work, in a friendly, state-of-the-art environment. I actually look forward to my dental appointments - who says that? I first visited Dr. Eshom for a cleaning while attending UCSD around 1994. Initially, I had some molars in bad shape, due to bad dental hygiene and nighttime teeth grinding. Dr. Eshom performed a series of porcelain onlays on my molars (rather than caps which would have lost more tooth matter). They still look beautiful and remain intact 20 years later. When I had an issue with one of them after 10 years, Dr. Eshom repaired it at no charge, no questions asked. Dr. Eshom and him team use the latest tech, such as lasers for deep gum cleanings. Some of these are not covered by typical dental insurance, so you pay maybe an extra $30-50 out of pocket for a cleaning. But these extras are optional, and you can skip them. I always do them - why? Because after a childhood of constant fillings and dental issues, since switching to Dr. Eshom, I haven't had a cavity in a decade. And no gingivitis warning signs, despite this being a risk for me. In a way, I feel bad that Dr. Eshom's preventative care is so good, because I no longer have any "big ticket" items such as fillings, crowns, root canals, and so on that are more profitable for dentists. But Dr. Eshom just seems honestly happy that his patients have the best teeth possible. I can't say enough good things about his practice. It's like unicorn dentistry. read more

Dr. Eshom seemed competent and caring when I consulted with him prior to a scheduled procedure (being done by someone else) that was expected to require some teeth straightening afterward. There was also the chance that I would have a gap in between my two front teeth, and we discussed using bonding on my front six teeth to help fill the gap if necessary. After the procedure, and before Dr. Eshom planned out the Invisalign trays, I made it very clear that he NOT move any of the teeth in my upper right quadrant inward (toward my tongue). I emphasized several times that I could not afford to lose any width on the right side of my upper jaw. After the procedure, my teeth in the front were not optimally positioned and there was a gap in front, but I could bite down comfortably, chew food without any problems and sleep without any pain. Four to six weeks into the Invisalign trays, one of the teeth on my upper right side suddenly started hitting on the tooth below it. I scheduled an appointment, during which I insisted that something was wrong with the direction in which the trays were moving my teeth. I stated this repeatedly, but Dr. Eshom completely dismissed my concerns. He said that it just "seemed" wrong to me, but that everything was fine. He told me to "let it play out" (referring to the nine months worth of trays ahead of me). Against my better judgement, I did what he asked. At the end of treatment I was worse off than before. That tooth is the only one of my upper teeth that is making contact with my lower teeth, and it's so sore from the constant hitting and trauma that it's getting loose. I'm in so much tooth pain I'm having difficulty sleeping, and it's nearly impossible to chew food. I'm swallowing food practically whole and having a lot of stomach problems now, because of this situation. Dr. Eshom avoided me for months. I finally had a chance to speak with him and asked him why he had dismissed my concerns way back when he had a chance to redo the trays and correct the course of my treatment. He evaded my question and said he knew what I was trying to do. I didn't understand what he meant by that, but asked him for an apology for the condition he left me in (I didn't ask him for a refund, just an apology). He hung up on me. read more

Dr. Eshom and his staff are wonderful!!! My fiance and I see Dr. Eshom for our invisalign. We've been coming here for over 8 months now, and our visits are every 6 weeks. Each and every time, the front office staff is smiling and offer us cold water, they are ALWAYS on time with their appointments, and the back office staff is also friendly and knowledgeable. The front office area is very zen-like and pleasing, and when you walk to one of the treatment rooms in the back, it's very clean and bright, and yet still very comfortable. Their office location is also very conviently located right off the freeway and parking is not a problem either. Love this place!! Dr. Ferrara did an exceptional job with my crown and made the entire process stress and pain free! This is huge to me as my previous dental experiences were horrible elsewhere, so I now have a new dentist that I highly respect and trust. My overall experience with Dr. Ferrara and his staff was absolutely remarkable, very patient, loving, caring and trustworthy staff! All the positive reviews are true! I went in a couple weeks ago for a consultation for Invisalign braces. I went to several dentists before that for consultations for comparison. When I walked in the doors, I was immediately greeted by a receptionist. I was informed of the seating and the restroom. I went in the restroom. It was very clean and roomy. Also stocked with warm towels and complimentary toothbrushes. Afterwards, I went to the waiting room, was there for one minute before I directed toward the room for my consultation. Appointment was right on schedule! I had a seat...the dental chair was a massage chair too. I watched an informative video. There were two very nice ladies assisting Dr.Eshom in answering any of my questions. Dr. Eshom explained in detail of how the process was going to work. He was very approachable and seemed very knowledgeable. Also, the quote was much lower then any other dentists that I went to, and the length of time I would be in Invisalign was much lower. I was gonna go for the Invisalign, but due to a family emergency I don't have the funds for it right now. They were very understanding when I had to cancel the next appointment...no pressure. read more
