Dr. Jarrod was my dentist when I lived in San Diego, and now that I've moved out of state, I truly wish I could still see him. I needed all four of my wisdom teeth extracted and was extremely nervous because of past bad experiences and just the thought of surgery in general. From the moment I sat in the chair, he made me feel comfortable. I'm terrified of needles, but he walked me through breathing techniques and somehow managed to numb me without me feeling any pain at all. That alone meant so much to me. His assistant, Riki, was also amazing. She kept checking on me, reassuring me, and made sure I felt completely numb before anything started. She explained everything clearly so I knew what to expect, that I might feel pressure but no pain and she was absolutely right. My teeth were complicated due to long roots, but Dr. Jarrod handled everything so smoothly and professionally. The entire procedure was completely pain-free, which I honestly didn't think was possible. Now that I'm out of state, I really wish I had a dentist like him here. I had been dealing with months of dental pain before finding Dr. Jarrod. I saw multiple dentists--one recommended several root canals along with fillings. I decided to start with the fillings, but after that, I couldn't chew comfortably at all and was in constant pain. I went to another dentist who also recommended root canals, but they couldn't see me until the summer. So I was left still suffering and unsure of what to do. I was referred to Dr. Jarrod by a friend, and from the moment I met him, I felt heard. He took the time to really listen and understand what I had been going through. That's when I knew I could trust him. After examining me, he explained that I actually didn't need root canals. Instead, the issue was that the previous filling was too large and wide, and a crown should have been done instead. He sat down with me and walked me through the entire process, including which materials would work best. Because I have a tight and heavy bite, we decided on a full gold crown for durability and longevity. What really stood out was his compassion--he knew I had been in pain for a long time and offered to do the treatment that same day. Even though I have Medi-Cal and had to pay out of pocket, it was absolutely worth every penny. Dr. Jarrod has such a gentle touch--I didn't feel any pain or sensitivity during the procedure. Now, one week later, I'm completely pain-free and can finally eat comfortably again after months of discomfort. I also want to thank the front office team for clearly explaining my financial options and always welcoming me with a smile--they truly make you feel comfortable. I was a patient of Dr. Goldberg for 27 years, and I never imagined I would be writing this review. Unfortunately, my final experience was marked by gross incompetence, unnecessary suffering, and a complete lack of accountability. On June 2, Dr. Goldberg prepared my tooth for a crown and placed a temporary. During the entire time the temporary crown was in place, I had no pain whatsoever. On June 30, the permanent crown was installed, and immediately afterward I began experiencing severe pain, including sensitivity to hot, cold, and biting. I returned on July 3 for an adjustment, but the pain persisted. When I went back again on July 18, rather than investigating the crown itself, Dr. Goldberg told me I would need a root canal. This made no sense to me, as I had been completely pain-free with the temporary crown. I sought a second opinion on July 30. On September 11, my new dentist removed the crown Dr. Goldberg had placed and quickly identified substandard crown preparation and poor workmanship. Once that crown was removed and a temporary was placed, I was immediately pain-free. No root canal was needed. The pain I endured for over two months was entirely avoidable. In addition to the poor crown work, the numbing process was absolutely atrocious. Dr. Goldberg administered up to 20 injections, repeatedly jabbing me without ever achieving full numbness. I endured drilling deep into my tooth while in significant pain. Eventually, after so many failed attempts, I told him to proceed because nothing he was doing was working. He told me that I had "very deep roots" and that my case was extremely unusual, leading me to believe the problem was somehow me. When I went to my new dentist, I required only two injections to become completely numb. That is when it became clear that the issue was not my anatomy--it was technique. The experience felt less like skilled dentistry and more like random guesswork. While the front office eventually coordinated a partial refund through insurance, Dr. Goldberg himself never reached out. No phone call. No explanation. No apology. After 27 years as a patient, that silence spoke volumes. Mistakes happen. What is unacceptable is poor workmanship followed by a complete refusal to take responsibility. Dr. Ronald Goldberg is absolutely fabulous! If you are like me and the idea of a dental visit causes you anxiety, well Dr. Goldberg and his team are worth more than their weight in gold. Can't believe it, painless root canal!! I went for a root canal, expecting the worst. Dr. Goldberg did a two visits root canal. Now, a week later, I am waiting for my crown. This is going to be a two part review as I visited two times. The first visit was an semi-annual cleaning. This was amazing, the lady that did my cleaning was great. She was able to answer all my questions, and she even used a camera to show me what she was talking about in my mouth. She gave me amazing recommendations for products to use and how to better my personal hygiene. I would give her a 5/5 and wish her the best of luck in dental school. The second visit is when I had to get cavities filled in. I had either 4-5 cavities and the dentist Dr. Goldberg worked on me. Now the first issue was the time. He shared that the whole process should take around an hour. Which made sense I feel like doing 4-5 cavities should take about hour to hour and a half. Once I got in the chair, the whole process for this took 20 minutes. I feel like he did a VERY rushed job and not even a good one where he paid no attention to detail. Once I got home later that night I tried to floss, and now I am not able to get the floss between two of my teeth because he poorly applied to filler that left no gap in between my teeth. Later I found out that they did not bill a certain item to my insurance and just forced me to pay for the whole cost. I spoke to the office manager and it was clear it was an error from their office staff and she didn't even apologize. She spoke as if it was normal for this to happen, and then she said she would call me back after the new claim came back. To my surprise, the claim back 9 days after but she never called. I called the office a month later to see where my claim status was, and that was when I was informed that the claim was received from the office a month ago. Overall, I had a very poor experience and I will not be returning. This sucks because I love the dental hygienists but I do not like the dentist. It also took me awhile to write this review because instead of taking the poor reviews at value and learning from them, the dentist responds poorly to them which can be seen on previous reviews. read more

I initially held off on writing this review since I've always been fond of Dr. Jarod Goldberg. However, continued negative experiences with his business compel me to warn the public against making the same mistake in trusting this business. Unfortunately, the other negative reviews of unsettling experiences are valid as we've experienced much of the same. THE WORST OF IT - my wife recently went in for a root canal procedure. Just moments before it commenced and AFTER she had been administered a healthy dose of Novocain, the reception staff unexpectedly turned the lights on and informed her of a 25% price increase from the original agreed upon price. When she questioned this, Dr. Jarod Goldberg appeared in the room 20+ minutes later and initially provided weak explanations when being challenged on this sudden increase. Although he eventually backtracked to offer the original price, this sudden price change completely eroded our trust in the quality of their practice and my wife returned home with a completely numb mouth. No follow up apologies from the office either... Inexcusable! Furthermore, the office failed to notify us that they no longer accepted our insurance. Although this is not a legal requirement, it is courteous and professional to provide notice to returning customers who have been returning with insurance for years. After canceling all future appointments, we faced even more unprofessional behavior from the accounting department. Our inquiries were met with frustrating delays. Instead of receiving a call back, we received just an email back stating our balance due over a month later! We finally got ahold of their head of accounting and she hung up on us when we sought further clarification on invoices. I've known and have been a patient of Dr Roland Goldberg since I retired from the Navy in 1998. I have nothing but praise for this man, his practice and what he's done for me in my life. He is literally a godsend and a true master of his craft. He's extremely patient, caring and thorough in his treatment. Above all he cares about your comfort while being treated. His anesthesia injections are painless and he ensures that you are not in any pain whatsoever while being treated. I didn't grow up with the best dental care, nor was I educated in proper care of my teeth. The military didn't provide the best dental care either. When you visit the dentist office you usually aren't going because you want to... but of all the places I've visited in my lifetime, Roland and Jarrod are dentists that I'll stick with as long as I'm in SD! The biggest success story here is my sister who would literally cry at the thought of calling the dental offices. No joke, years of bad dentists and horrible experiences left her scarred to the point that she wouldn't get near an office until she was literally on the verge of tears from a toothache. I have had every type of sedation possible, up to and including conscious sedation with an anesthesiologist MD paid by the hour, to help me get through procedures. We have been researching dentists in our area that are closer than our old dentist's office in Chula Vista. Both of us desire to have a lot of cosmetic work done. * Went here off a flyer mailing for a "New Patient Special: $99 Includes Dental Exam, 30 X-Rays & Basic Cleaning." * One tooth was in a lot of pain and we already knew it likely would need to be pulled. We were seeking clarification of flyer's information regarding a "Dental Implant for $2,195 Includes: Implant, Abutment & Crown". Clarification was needed as to if the Abutment was of Prefabricated Titanium and If Porcelain was fused to a Metal Crown, as good dental offices offer. We never got that far. * Dr. Roland Goldberg has terrible bedside manner. He is overly-aggressive. I likened him to a vulture, swooping down for the money grab. *shudder* * Paperwork states you will be charged $100 for a missed appointment if it's not cancelled 3 days before the appointment. That's funny because the office is so disorganized they called me 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT TO CONFIRM IT!!!!, as I was driving to the appointment! Wow, not a good first impression! * We had NO DENTAL EXAM, because the dentist immediately acted inappropriately by being too touchy-feely. And no, the dentist hadn't even looked in the mouth; it was all body-physical touching. * I stood there and discussed the plan. I was already aware cosmetic work is expensive and wanted a payment plan. I expected the work to be a process, done over a period of time. A long period of time. I noted I already was approved by Care Credit. * Their "methods" include PULLING ALL THE TEETH and replacing with implants!! Oh, and by the way, the price just went up to $3,500 per tooth!!! (Last time I checked my bank account, I wasn't a millionaire, and I told the dentist so.) HE SHRUGGED!!! I went over my calculations with him on how long it would take me to pay off one tooth (15 months!). His response? *crickets *crickets *crickets * All I could think about was how, years ago, my Mom went to a dentist appointment in the 60's with a tooth that hurt, and when she woke up from being under general anesthetic, they had PULLED EVERY ONE OF HER TEETH, AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM!!! Worse, I felt bad for years that I had not gone with her. She was 35 years old. * Needless to say, today we had no exam, no x-rays, no cleaning. We decided we were done with the utter nonsense and left. We never even got sat in a chair! * The receptionist informs me I owe them $99!!! "Oh, stop it!" I protest! The male (office manager??) We had an awful experience here. I typically do not review businesses, but I feel it is important to share my experience to help others avoid a headache. My daughter began coming to this practice 4 years ago. Before she started coming, I received confirmation they accept her insurance. Earlier this year, my daughter's appointment was cancelled without notification. I called the practice to confirm her appointment since I did not receive my usual text message to confirm, and at this time I was notified that they no longer took her insurance, and therefore they cancelled her appointment. I scrambled to find her another appointment elsewhere because she had braces and needed her teeth cleaned. I then was notified that they had not accepted her insurance for quite some time and did not let us know (in that time she had teeth cleanings and a filling). My daughter's insurance has not changed since she started coming. We are now forced to spend over $400 because of the lack of transparency in this office. read more

I do not live in San Diego but my parents do, and I have been to this office on an as-needed basis for last-minute issues for many years. Both Dr. Roland and Dr. Jarrod provide great care, and their team (eg, office staff hygienists, etc) is very friendly and efficient. Since my needs typically arise last-minute, I have been super happy and impressed with their ability to always squeeze me in. Most recently, I was in town for my wedding, and I decided that both my fiance and I should get our teeth cleaned beforehand. They were able to fit us both in and did a great job, and went above and beyond by sending us home with teeth whitening kits to use. They also were able to fit in my finance's mother, who had a toothache arise a few days before the wedding. I would strongly recommend this group!! read more

I love Dr. Jarrod Goldberg but the administrative side of this practice makes it incredibly frustrating to keep coming here. It's nearly impossible to get a reply via phone or email, even upon leaving countless messages, emails, and follow up messages. They seem to rarely pick up the phone when called during business hours. There have been so many lapses in basic consideration for patients throughout my time here. Patients were not notified when their practice was changing locations to the suite next door, appointments weren't cancelled for this period, and patients even showed up that day only to find the doors locked. It's ridiculous to charge your patients for no-shows or last minute cancellations but not hold the practice to the same standard. In another instance, I urgently needed my X-ray scans for my wisdom teeth consultation with my dental surgeon that week or else I'd be charged several hundred dollars to retake them, and upon calling the front desk in advance they assured me they'd call back after lunch. They never called me, so I called them, and I was told I could pick up the physical disc containing my CBCT file if anything and was reassured I'd receive it. An hour before EOD, still no response. I call and leave a message. Ultimately I had to eat the cost and just have them redone since Goldberg never answered or even acknowledged ignoring me. It's like pulling teeth to get these people to answer you. Now, I've been trying to get in touch with them in regards to my retainers that they told me would be ~$50 out of pocket but are now sending me a bill for $500+, despite never notifying me when I picked them up. Ultimately, the people are friendly, the hygienists and Dr. Goldberg perform good dental work & take the time to explain the process & be transparent about what they're doing to you, but the shortcomings in administration and basic customer service make it a nightmare to establish Goldberg Dental as your dental care provider. read more

PLEASE read my review before going to this place. And I'm not the only one who has this issue. 1. The #1 frustration is that Dr. Jarrod Goldberg really did not have good hands. I had a few fillings. One teeth came out painful day 1 after the filling. 3 weeks later, I still have pain. I then had a revisit and Dr Goldberg told me it was totally fine. After 3 month, I still have pain on the filled teeth. I was then told that the filling failed and I need a crown instead!!! There are 2 issues here. The first issue is that why didn't they find out the issue at the beginning? Or even 3 weeks after the filling when I still have pain? The second issue is that since the filling failed, why I have to pay additional $900 for the crown? I've had filling the many different places and I can tell that the fillings Dr Goldberg did was really bad. The junction was very rough and uneven. Do not risk your teeth by going to this place. 2. They are horrible in respecting your time. For the cleaning, I came at 11:00 am, wait the doctor until 11:30 am. Then the doctor took a look at my teeth and suggested some treatment. My actually cleaning start at 11:45 am and finished at 11:55 am. So I paid them the full cleaning price to clean my teeth for 10 min. This is ridiculous. Same story for the deep cleaning + filling. If you charge me for both service, you need to spend time for each service. So for the deep cleaning + filling they only spent ~10 min on the deep cleaning. I would not trust this place and won't risk my own health. read more

My family and I have been seeing Dr. Goldberg over 23 years (since my wife was first pregnant with our first kid, to now all 3 kids all seeing Dr. Goldberg Sr). Dr. Goldberg is very good dentist, and I recommend many of my friends to him in the past. Since last year, the entire front desk crew is completely in bad service. We had 2 appointments within last 2 months that we showed up and Dr. wasn't there. Excuses and after excuses about not notifying us, and rude when we are complaining. This was my first visit to Goldberg Dental Group. I had chipped my front tooth on a plastic fork and needed it fixed...really WELL... and quickly because I had a photo shoot to do in two days. I was referred to Dr Jarrod by a client of mine who raved about him. Well, he wasn't wrong. They were able to get me in quickly and the check in process was really very smooth process. The ladies at the desk were kind and helpful. And everything was nice and clean. Dr Jarrod greeted me and was very professional. He did the exam and explained to me in detail my options. Once we decided on a procedure and we got started, he was gentle and extremely thorough. He took his time and you can tell he was very detail oriented, examining his work from every angle and making adjustments as needed. The bonding material matched my tooth PERFECTLY. I had an extra tooth right in the middle on the roof of my mouth for about 14 years and I was anxious about getting it extracted. But Dr. Jarod did an amazing job and really put me at ease. - The extraction was painless. - After the extraction the stitches really held up and within a couple of weeks it was like the extra tooth was never there - His staff is really professional and helpful as well Also, I was supposed to start invisalign at the clinic but Dr. Jarod saw my scans and explained to me that conventional braces might be better. All my experiences here were great except for one. Every time I go in for my bi-annual cleaning, his assistants do a great job cleaning and Dr. Goldberg comes by and you can tell from the first time you meet him, he is a great guy and knows what he is doing. He always tells me everything that is wrong and will explain any question I have thoroughly. I had a great experience with him for the last 2 years using my company insurance and would highly recommend him as a Dentist. But he gets 4 stars for what happened last year. I had to get 4 wisdom teeth removed. He told me he can do 3 but couldn't do the 4th one because it was under the jaw bone. Instead of referring me to an oral surgeon from the beginning, he decided to take 3 out, and then refer to the oral surgeon. The problem with that was that the insurance was iffy about covering one wisdom tooth, especially by an oral surgeon since it was so much more expensive than a dentist. It would've been great if he just referred me to the oral surgeon for all 4 teeth. It would've been easier on the insurance, time, and money. Other than that, he is an excellent dentist and trust him with my teeth! read more

I found out they overcharged me $197 after I received my insurance payment statement. They have never informed me about it. I have called them 4 times to refund my money in the past 3 weeks and every time they told me they will audit it and call me back, but they never did. Now I am still waiting. read more
