(My ratings all relate to a comparison of this restaurant to other similar ones in the area and that is why I've rated this a "5".) My wife and I were out and about in Tigard around lunch time and were looking for a place for a casual meal. I had passed by Davidsons hundreds of times and always thought it looked to be very inviting but never had a chance to try it out. So when we were nearby, I suggested we have a look and we were not disappointed. This is a locally owned establishment and the owner, Greg, bought it from the Davidsons, if I remember correctly, back in the 90s. He has maintained the local charm by still providing home cooked meals, soups and baked goods at an affordable price. Greg is very friendly and his welcoming approach is reflected in his servers and staff. Manyservers have been long-term employees, a sign that the restaurant has been well-managed as employee turnover in small places like Davidsons is usually high. (High employee turnover increases costs and prices because of the high cost of training.) I ordered a Caesar salad which was tasty and a generous portion with plenty of grilled chicken. My wife had an omelet which was piping hot and also much more than she could eat. My meal included a cornmeal muffin which also came fresh from the oven and was delicious. For dessert, we shared a peanut butter-chocolate pie and a chocolate pie, both baked here and delicious. If you enjoy home-style cooking, no frills, and good value, try out Davidsons and you won't be disappointed. As a bonus, you are supporting a local owner, not a faceless national chain. read more

The food is still amazing, I always order the clam chowder and halibut fish and chips or the master burger! We have been here a few times, usually for breakfast but recently we went in for dinner. I really wanted to like this place but it just seems like they don't care. The night we went it was reasonably busy but there were plenty of empty tables and booths but we still stood at the cash register for a few minutes while several waitresses walked right past us. One even made eye contact and kept going. Once we got seated (about three inches away from the people next to us) I cruised the menu to find something to eat. I settled on the Hot Turkey Sandwich. My wife had the Waffle with Bacon and Eggs. When the food came out the disappointment continued. My "Hot Turkey Sandwich" was a single slice of wonder bread, a pile of compressed turkey lunch meat smothered in a brown gravy that had to have been from a packet or a jar. It had NO flavor. I RARELY have to add salt and pepper to my food and i had to use the shakers twice. I was hoping the mashed potatoes might salvage the dish but wow, they were terrible....Lumpy, watery, no flavor, zero seasoning. Davidsons has the clientele...but i am not sure if they even want to make good food. read more

Terrible experience: hair on my plate got me a 20% discount off of my meal. I felt 100% like throwing up and they felt it was worth $1.60. After having waited on the list, gotten passed over by 3 tables because I was solo... then a terrible server (overly busy, perhaps) who took 5 mins to bring coffee, never refilled unless asked, even asked me if I wanted another napkin when I'd used mine. Cheap cheap cheap. In sum - poor service due to being single, no sense of customer service when I discovered the hair behind the whipped cream I'd never touched. We came here in the middle of the day for an early supper. We make it a point to go here every year specifically for their world famous, seasonal only pumpkin pancakes.....ok maybe not world famous ....but portland metro area famous. The best in the area. Pumpkin pancakes with a gingerbread undertone. YUM! For me, 4 large pumpkin pancakes, a side of sausage and an egg and a cup of coffee. Mr. mr. got 4 large pumpkin pancakes and potato wedges and coffee. It should be noted that on the menu that it says that they have home fries. These are wedges and not home fries. Just FYI. a side of real maple syrup was added to our order too. The bill came to $29.00 and some change. A bit pricy for breakfast food. The table service was really friendly and super nice. The hostess or whoever was at the front register should learn to say hello! Not ignore patrons when they enter. Just because you are not the server and will not seat the patron does not mean that one should not make eye contact and be courteous. As per the sign on the door, a liquor license for this place is in the works. They are also known in the area for things you probably wouldn't suspect, their Mexican offerings, fish, and homemade root beer. We have had their Mexican and it is quite good. They also have specials on pie though out the year. I can't wait to get another order of the pumpkin pancakes before they are done for the season. This is one of our favorite goto places. Best Patty Melt and home frys around. The chinese chicken salad is a must try and the cornbread is just the best. They make awesome homemade root beer that goes perfect with any meal. If you love good halibut fish and chips, you just got to try Davidson's. read more

My family and I moved to the Tualatin-Tigard area about 16 years ago, and one of the first "discoveries" we made for family dining (on a friend's recommendation) was Davidson's. That first impression was a good one, and they've done a fine job since. We continue to revisit from time to time because it's a pleasant place to eat, the service (unless the tables are packed) is prompt, and the food is wholesome and well-prepared. Food is really average, small portions and bland. Two stars instead of one because turkey noodle soup was really good. Had the fish sandwich with no dressing, fish was skimpy sandwich was mostly bread and shredded lettuce served with a sliver of a pickle smaller than a gherkin. The new owners of Davidson's are wonderful! They are so friendly and go out of their way to make sure we are happy. The food is still the same great menu, but the atmosphere is much lighter and happy. The menu is definitely comfort food that is carefully prepared fresh and with quality ingredients. Everyone is so helpful and wants to make sure you are treated like family. We were gone for a long time but are now back and just really enjoy every meal. Abraham and Marvat take the time to get to know you and make sure you enjoy your food. We are always greeted with a smile and the menu selection is fantastic. Been eating here for more then 30 years, recently took my mom back here for lunch after many years away and she said it was pretty much the way she remembered it from her childhood save the new paint, booths and a few minor menu changes. We love the clam chowder in a bread bowl with salad. Very filling. Burgers can be hit and miss, but more often a hit. Best homemade root beer around, don't pass it up! Definitely a quiet old folks type diner, hence some blander menu options, but we always get great service and feel right at home here. read more

I was in the mood to be disappointed by food, so I went looking for a non-chain diner. Davidson's Casual Dining is casual all right: casual on cleanliness, casual on quality. My order came with a side salad, and after sending back my wilted, expired salad, my boyfriend (who had an excellent view of the kitchen) watched the staff go through FOUR tubs of salad before I heard our waitress call back to "look in the back for the fresher stuff." My boyfriend watched his sandwich sit for 15 minutes, and was served lukewarm. Meanwhile, never thought drying the floor with newspaper was up to the health code, but I'm sure the newspaper provider loves printing out free drying material. read more

Went for breakfast today(Saturday) thinking it would be busy, but got seated right away. Had Hevos Ranchero and Blueberry Crepes. Best Hevos Ranchero I have ever had. My daughter had the crepe, ordered 3. 3 was too many, suggest the 2 crepe portion size. I had a taste, they were good. The crepe had a nice cinnamon flavor and had plenty of blueberries. We ate here often and really loved it for just what it was, a friendly diner with decent food, delicious pies, and an unpretentious atmosphere. A couple weeks ago we experienced truly bad service for the first time ever here. The hostess sat us, we waited forever for someone to come take our drink order or even acknowledge our presence and just about the time I was prepared to go elsewhere for dinner, a waiter came over and basically blamed us for him taking so long, accusing us of "sneaking in" as though we had seated ourselves. He seemed new, I let it slide and ordered our food because we were hungry. The service continued to be bad for the remainder of the meal, but I kinda assumed they were trying out a new server that night and didn't think much of it. A bad server wouldn't last long at the Davidson's I knew. (For example, the owner once overheard us debating which slice of pie to share so when he brought the one we ordered he also brought the other one on the house. ) We tried again tonight. Service was better, but the quality of the food has gone way down. The chicken tenders were just the absolute cheapest frozen things, not like the ones they used to have -though the price sure didn't come down. (Save yourself the money and get better chicken strips at Burgerville.) I overheard the server telling another guest that the place has changed owners and many of the staff have gone elsewhere. It's really too bad that the new owners have not kept up the quality. It was unusually empty when we were there today, so it seems word is out and they aren't keeping their regulars. read more

I like this place a lot. The service is some of the best in town! Our waitress was very friendly and our water was always filled to the top. The homemade rootbeer is very refreshing. My favorite part of my meal was the clam chowder, thick and creamy. I had the hot turkey sandwich and for a place that has so many delicious baked goods, I think they used wonder bread for my sandwich. Also the mashed potatoes reminded me of instant mashed. I tried my boyfriend's chicken fried steak and it was very tough. My friend had the pot roast and liked it but the gravy was a little salty. I gave it three stars with the service being great and the food average. read more

I came here with my daughter on Saturday 7-14-18. The waitress seemed okay. She wasn't slammed by any means but she was on top on things. Each time she helped us I thanked her or whatnot but she just seemed cold. When it came to our order. My daughter ordered the kids #3 and I got a omelet. I was shocked to find out that not only was I charged for a drink for her but she was given a adult #3 breakfast. The difference was eggs I guess but since I don't come here often I had no idea she was getting a adult meal. I have no idea why she would assume this other than my daughter is overweight for her age. Which unfortunately is out of my hands due to being a co parent. When I asked the waitress about it she told me she made a mistake. But still charged me the 11 instead of 5 and a drink. I came in planning to share my meal knowing I wouldn't finish it but I figured for 5 bucks she can have what she wants. When I asked to speak to a manager she kept lying and saying there wasn't one working and I had to come back when the owner was there. I stated so there is no one running this shift at all? No one in charge of the restaurant? She kept insisting that no one was. I asked if the hostess was in charge and she said this old lady? The "old lady" the listen to the issue. While the waitress lied about the menu being opened to the kids page and her pointing to the number 3. And tried to get herself out of trouble. I was given a gift certificate to a restaurant I don't ever want to go back to yay. This waitress needs to fired. Horrible customer service and the fact she would lie about a supervisor to talk to. Everyone will find something they like at Davidsons! One of the best things on the lunch/dinner menu is the Hailbut Fish and Chips. This isn't typically what I would order at a diner, however it was recommended that I give it a try, and I was VERY impressed! It was actually better than some fish and chips I have paid big bucks for at the beach. Additionally, they make an excellent Chinese chicken salad with generous portions of white meat chicken mixed in, and a fantastic dressing which I think is homemade. There are some Mexican food choices on the menu as well. My husband ordered the chicken burrito, and it was good too. The diner has a local feel to it, (with lots of regular customers) and they commonly feature "in season" specialty items like fresh strawberry or peach waffles, and 25cent seasonal pie! Overall, it's a nice little diner, and you definitely won't leave hungry! read more
