I drive all the way from Helotes to eat this barbeque. It is delicious. What's more is I love the story! 3 generations of pit masters. I like looking at the pictures of the grandfather who started the restaurant and enjoy watching the father son team working together. Really love the creamed corn. Disappointing doesn't begin to cut it. After watching this place get featured on Man, Fire, Food, I was definitely interested. The discussions of how they're keeping up the vaquero traditions of South Texas and the use of cayenne in seasoning the BBQ captured my attention and my fancy -- enough so to take a drive Saturday afternoon and stop here. From first blush, it's an unassuming stop near downtown Seguin. The lack of a heavy smoke smell was surprising, but we ventured in anyway. Next, seeing the meats on display in a glass case under a heat lamp was also surprising, but hey, we're already there, right? And the sullen, unfriendly counter staff should've been another warning, but the food's got to be good enough to justify the TV buzz, right? So, let's go to the food. We got a mix of stuff -- brisket, ribs, sausage, and ham. And sides of Spanish rice and tater tots. NONE of the meat had either seasoning or a smoked flavor. The brisket was overly lean and dry -- and lacked smoke, seasoning, or any bark. However, the brisket had a unique ability to be both greasy and dry. Sausage -- coarse grind and flavorless. You're better off with Eckrich or Hillshire Farms. Ham -- also a losing option. The ribs were the least bad meat on the table but weren't even as good as Chili's. At least they had a hint of pink smoke and were the most tender meat on the table. Sauce? Disgusting. Very little flavor and a strange thickness/consistency. It was almost like a bowl of pinto beans without the beans. Tater tots? Let's just say the grease in the fryer needs changing. Spanish rice? Not bad and probably the least bad thing on the tray besides the iced tea. Also, on the note of the disinterested service, you get a pile of pickles and onions dumped right on top of your BBQ whether you ask for it or not. Long story short. If you're in Seguin, drive a few minutes up Highway 46 and eat quality BBQ in New Braunfels at Cooper's. read more

Word of mouth will get me there every time. And I had seen a food show featuring Davila's, as well as a recommendation from a friend from that area. Texans are big on meat which is fine but I want quality sides as well. I asked for and received a plate piled high with lean brisket. The smoke ring was deep and the meat was extremely tender with some crispy bits on the ends of the meat. I'm not a Texan or an expert but the meat on my plate was the best Texas brisket I've eaten to date. The potato salad tasted like my moms and the hush puppies were perfectly deep fried and contained just enough jalapeños to bump them up. I was told the sausage there was not to be missed so we ordered a side of sausage. I'm not much on sausage and I normally taste it whenever we eat bbq. However, this sausage had skin that crackled and held the meat juices until we cut it open. If I ordered anything to take home, it would be a big container of their sausage and I'd eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Nice people, coVid compliant, and outside dining rounded out a great experience. PS: their brewed ice tea was delicious and fresh. And I'm picky about tea. Davila's is worth the drive. read more

Disappointment! First time trying it while driving back to San Antonio. I'd say its a local favorite for a reason. Brisket was dry and had no taste at all. Sausage was just different than what I am used to. Turkey and the sides were the only good thing. Save your money and go elsewhere as it is also pricey for small portions. read more

My family & I were heading home from a softball tournament in new Braunfels & my daughter wanted BBQ. My dad said this place was in Texas monthly want to try it. We did & everything was fantastic!!! I am definitely coming back here whenever I need good barbecue! There were four people in my group and everybody loved their food! All together we got the chopped brisket po boy, turkey leg, sliced brisket, cheeseburger, green beans, Mac n cheese, fries, cole slaw and wings. The best thing we had were the wings; absolutely amazing! We got the hot and BBQ and were all fighting for the last one. Only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is that I do wish the BBQ sauce was thicker but it still had a good flavor. The cole slaw was terrible though, DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

After hearing the food network had been filming here i was expecting amazing or something special to really set this place apart. However, the lamb ribs had a ton of fat mainly it was just a pile of fat. The brisket was a little dry, and i was surprised they didnt even ask lean or fatty. I have wanted to try their BBQ for over 20 years. I use to get their oyster po'boys they where delicious. Had a chance to try it yesterday brought home a Davila family order. Never again, the brisket was tasteless sauce may of helped if I had gotten some. The sausage was dry, over cooked, and the casing was like chewing parchment paper. The brisket was hit and miss on one end my wife and I's was ok had a nice consistency of fat and lean meat. My mother in laws brisket if you want to call it that had the consistency of beef jerky and my father in laws plate look like they just cut off the fat cap with a little bit of brisket. The beans were good along with the green beans. The Mac n cheese was gritty and was not good along with the potato salad was really sweet like they dumped a ton of sugar in it. The service was terrible as well we stood at the counter for 20 minutes to order our food until one of the owners came from the back in the kitchen to come and help us. Idk what's going on with the staff if they are just over worked or they just don't care but come on now 20 minutes.. anyway probably will never go back and don't see why this place has such the hype it has read more

Great barbecue and sides. But they also think outside the box. I love their grilled cheese brisket sandwich. Yes grilled cheese on Texas toast with caramelized onions and brisket in the middle! I haven't gotten them but they also have brisket nachos. And brisket Frito pie. I need to try those soon read more

Well, I was driving home from Houston, so I did a search for BBQ in Seguin and had a few options, one place downtown was sold out what I craved so I decided to try Davila's bought 1/2 lb. of Brisket, 1/2 chicken, sausage link, Potatoe salad, cream corn, peach cobbler, to my surprise this was the worst I have ever eaten, only 3 slices of brisket, so I weight it at home It was only 6 , half a chicken consisted of 2 dried up quarter legs, that's not half a chicken, Potatoe salad was more mashed potatoes, cream corn was more solid than cream many chunks of cream cheese, cobbler was alright, if this place has been in business for generations, they need to go back to the past , Its just horrible, I just should have gone to New Braunfels or Luling for real BBQ, I saw many other reviews complimenting this place , but they need to go out of their comfort zone and go elsewhere, I couldn't give this to my family, so I gave it to my dogs, no complaint from them, ended up buying something else for family to eat, after I took one for the team. Brisket was cut way to thin, cooked too hot and too fast (mesquite cooks too hot) and was chewy. Sausages were either kept warm way too long or overcooked as casing was all shriveled up. I can see why I have eaten BBQ in Central TX (Luling, Lockhart, Elgin, Taylor) for over 40 years and never heard of this place until recently. Pros: The place is super clean The ribs are delicious Cons: We noticed that server (the 30 + year old Mexican lady behind counter) was grabbing the food with her bare hands. A very good place to get barbecue in Seguin. We three meet play with beef brisket, sausage and pork ribs really hit the spot. Macaroni and cheese was solid, cream corn was very solid. For me, this place epitomizes small town local bbq places that I've grown up with that all the locals still enjoy despite the occasional passerby like me. I tried the brisket, ribs and beans.
