Okay so, I am deliberately ignoring their cupcakes in this review except to deduct a star for them. Why? They are horrid. But since they don't make them themselves (and should look for a new place to get them from) and they are called The Creamery, I feel only slightly guilty doing it. But... take my advice: AVOID THE CUPCAKES if you like flavor over sugar. Now, on to the rest of the review. It's cute. Clean. Locally owned. Has great hours. FANTASTIC staff (I can't say that enough) and the ice cream is REALLY good. I am a VERY boring ice cream person. My husband is not. But thanks to the other yelp reviewers gushing about the avocado coconut ice cream I asked for a sample. YUMMO! And then I had to get a cone. But I was torn... so many of the other flavors I tried were SO so good (the strawberry especially was excellent) and the ice cream was perfectly creamy and not too sweet and clearly worth the "Premium" label. This review is for the CUPCAKE CRAVING section only. I went to the cupcake craving in Sacramento, and was disappointed with the red velvet... However, I decided to give them another chance (because Wednesday has $1.50 cupcakes. Great marketing because that's really the only reason that drew my friend and me in.) Anyways. Staff was really nice and helpful explaining the various cupcake flavors. My friend bought a Monkey Mania (Banana cake filled w/ caramel) and I chose the Dulce de Leche... OMG. Cake tasted worse than what you could make using boxed cake mix! It reminded me of a cake you'd get from Safeway... Spongey, but not dense/moist enough to be good... The banana flavoring seemed artificial... ugh. Caramel wasn't even good. Blech. Dulce de Leche had a vanilla/white cake that wasn't good either... My friend and I took a bite of each of ours and said it wasn't worth the calories. I suggest if you want cupcakes and aren't choosy, come here, but if you want to a cupcake whose flavor surpasses the number of calories and grams of fat you'd be inhaling, go to Let Them Eat Cake. I'm serious. You'll be $2.75 in the hole, but hey, it's definitely better than the $2 crapcakes they serve here. Trust me. read more

If I wanted shortening and powdered sugar frosting I would go to Safeway and save a ton of money. I spent three times the money for a birthday party and was disappointed. Went here today just for their cupcakes. I would rate this place a solid 3.5 stars but I rounded down because the cupcakes here are just okay. I still think Kara's Cupcakes & Sprinkles Cupcakes use higher end ingredients, these cupcakes taste like the ones I bake, the only difference is in the frosting. Amazing ice cream, and I don't say that lightly about ice cream. Not your usual flavors: they did have chocolate and vanilla, but expect geranium and lavender rather than cookie dough or moose tracks. It's all made in small batches with real ingredients (mint ice cream made with fresh mint, for example) and not overly sweet, which is hard to find with ice cream. 2 scoops and chocolate sauce in a cup was $6. Not the cheapest, but not more than I'm used to for good (or even mediocre) ice cream places. I'd go back (and bring pints home, if they do that) if I lived nearby. My favorite ice cream that they sell is the thai tea ice cream. However recently they've switched out some flavors for the holiday. One of those flavors being the thai tea. From the holiday flavors, I tried the pumpkin pie and the gingerbread ice cream. The pumpkin pie was okay, it could use some more the spices that are normally in pumpkin pie. However, the gingerbread icecream was delicious. I recommend at least trying a sample if you go to the Creamery. read more

I have a special place in my heart for Davis creamery. When I first moved to Davis I was about 3 blocks away, and would come here nearly every week for the discounted scoop night. The ice cream bracket is a really fun competition, and I loved watching my flavor get to the semifinals as well as egging on my friends to go try it and vote for it. This, however did not happen, quite possibly, could not happen, with a cupcake from Davis Creamery, supplied by Cupcake Craving of Sacramento. I didn't expect the cupcakes to be refrigerated, but it helps mitigate some of the decadence so you could actually hope to finish one cupcake. Whereas a Let Them Eat Cake cupcake is almost completely dependent upon the frosting for flavor, a Cupcake Craving cupcake is great, if not better, without frosting. 10K - Bless their souls, this is the first time I've been anywhere that offers a carrot cake withOUT walnuts! And as such, this is the first time I've ever had carrot cake. It was yummy. Monkey Mania - The cake was moist and very banana-y with a filling that tastes like caramel corn. Though both monkey in nature, LTEC and Cupcake Craving take entirely different approaches, and both are delicious. Monkey Mania is like the fun spunky kid with paint all over his hands and Chunky Monkey is the well-to-do little princess having a tea party by herself. S'more - I wanted s'more S'more-ness out of this one. In essence, this cupcake was like a Hostess Cupcake with softer frosting and an insignificant amount of graham cracker crumbs on top. Red Velvet - It is the most popular cupcake at Davis Creamery, but doesn't compare to that of Sweet Surrender in Bakersfield. In the end, another forgettable, disappointing red velvet. I will have to come back to this review when I've actually tried something that Davis Creamery makes, i.e., their ice cream, but for now, I'll say $1.50 cupcake Wednesday is a hit, and the guy behind the counter is an excellent flavor consultant for the undecided. read more

Ice cream is fabulous!! Very rich, excellent flavor choices (where else can you find banana ice cream locally?), great service. Every time I drive through Davis I have to stop and have ice cream even if I'm not hungry because it is delicious and not to be missed! That being said, I take off one star for their price. Both frozen yogurt and ice cream are overpriced - with tax and tip it's about $4 for a small/single scoop. Definitely worth it even considering the prices - best quality available and a locally-owned business. I think DC should seriously consider branching out to the supermarket level -- packaging and selling pint-sized tubs in supermarkets throughout the Sacramento area. I know McConnell's of Santa Barbara did the same thing and their supermarket ice cream line became more successful than their parlor. Good ice cream! It's nice and creamy, and way better than any chain's ice cream with toppings mixed on a marble slab (you know which one I'm talking about). My favorite flavor is the salted caramel, but it, along with some of the other flavors, is too runny to be suitable for a sugar cone, so they offer to put the ice cream in a cup with the cone on top. Perhaps they could alter the recipe so that the consistency is suitable for a cone. This is why I am rating Davis Creamery four stars instead of five. The employees are nice as well, and make helpful suggestions. The cupcakes are great too, but Cupcake Craving makes them. The cookies are slightly above average (they're nice and chewy), but one obviously goes to Davis Creamery for the ice cream. read more

I drink a *lot* of milkshakes. Usually strawberry, or strawberry mixed with vanilla. This place easily falls within the top 1%. The quality of the ice cream is excellent -- juicy strawberry and real vanilla flavor, and just the right level of sweetness. And the blend with milk (none of that fake-dairy crap that some blasphemous creameries mix into their milkshakes) is done just right, for the perfect thick-but-still-suckable-with-a-straw consistency. They offer $5 cartons on Thursdays and $3 cowpies (ice cream cookie sandwhich of your choice) on another day.. My favorite ice cream has GOT to be the avocado coconut. I've been dying to try their honey almond, but they never have any out. I'm too scared to buy the whole carton just in case I don't like it... Sometimes, I get cravings for the avocado coconut at 1 in the morning...I'll even eat it when it's 30 degrees outside--that's how good it is. I always recommend one scoop on the sugar cone. The lady there was really nice and gave me some really clear info on each cupcake. There are flavors of ice cream that will make you happy. For some people there are even some cookies that cost less than a dollar. They are not the ones that you see in a traditional setting. I went in and was going to get my favorite flavor ever anywhere, which is Coffee Oreo but after she served me, I realized it was soft and I dislike soft ice cream so I was browsing and saw they had a Coffee Coconut Caramel Swirl and asked for a taste and it was so good. It wasn't too sweet or too rich. Perfect for my pregnant tastebuds. I asked if she would swap it out for the Coffee Oreo. She so kindly swapped it out and was so satisfied.
