I had to write about my experience with Iana and the entire staff at Davis. I had purchased a sample wedding gown which was a few sizes too big, and Iana and the staff did a fantastic job with the alterations - my dress fit like a glove. I had to schedule some last second appointments for alterations as well, and the staff was more than accommodating with fitting me into the schedule. My dress was hand delivered to my apartment with an 'emergency kit' bag full of things I might need for my dress on the wedding day. Driving by this place many times, I always noticed how great their window presentation is. That's the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars. Needing to switch dry cleaners because I recently moved nearby, I thought "let's give it a try". After looking at the yelp reviews, I went in and gave them 6 easy items. When I looked at the bill it was shockingly expensive. I asked if there was a mistake. For example one linen dress costs $20 to clean- no belt or zipper, not even a button or any embellishment! The employee said it was because it was a designer dress (Theory). I noticed on my receipt that the name-brand was specified and the more "designer" the brand, the more expensive it was. I said "What if I tore the tag off? Then what would it cost?" The guy was nice and said "I completely understand" when I asked for my items back. I don't mind paying more for extra work or craftsmanship but here I feel taken advantage of and definately will not return. read more

My wedding gown was pretty much 4 sizes too big, and they were able to not only get it to fit like a glove, but also preserve the designer's original silhouette of the dress. They were patient, understanding, and gave me extra fittings to make sure that I felt like a million bucks on my big day. Davis Imperial Cleaners is a phenomenal establishment. Today is my wedding and I left it to this morning to pick up my attire. However, I failed to make the connection that they would be closed today for the 4th of July. Jordan took the time out of his day off to meet me there so that I would my clothes for the wedding. Not only was the cleaning job brilliant, in a time when customer service seems like a lost art, Davis Imperial Cleaners excels. Use them, use them, use them. The last two visits, as I walked up to the front door, I've had exchanges with exiting customers and felt like I might need to administer CPR to their shocked hearts. Everyone, it seems, needs a little therapy after experiencing their first round of sticker shock here. Make no mistake, Davis is the high-price leader. But everything they have ever done for me justifies the expense. And sometimes, it is surprisingly inexpensive. I have a 1950s vintage suit jacket with couture details. It needed a minor little repair where the seam had come undone under one arm. I first took it across the street to Without a Trace. Make that The Loathsome Without a Trace. She quoted me $96.00 and said there would be a patch of fabric covering the area. When I asked why they couldn't just stitch the seam, she replied with no irony or apology that they didn't do tailoring. Just steps away, Davis quoted me $5.00. And here's why I really, really love them. It was done perfectly, of course. But from the way it was returned to me, it was clear that someone cared. The sleeves were stuffed with tissue paper and the collar was wrapped in tissue. There was a reusable clear plastic protector over the hanger and the whole thing in a dry cleaning bag. On my last visit, I asked if I could purchase one of the cardboard bust forms they use on certain dresses that have been cleaned/tailored. Someone came out, showed me how to assemble it (which, frankly, I'm not sure I would have figured out on my own) and they charged me nothing beyond what I paid for the items I was there to pick up. When something you really care about needs to be done right, whether it's simple dry cleaning, a small repair or a tailoring job, this is the gold standard, the only place to consider. Someone needs to remind me of that, however, next time my shearling coat needs cleaning. I still hyperventilate when I think about how much that cost. read more

I cannot recommend Davis Imperial Cleaners for wedding dress alterations, based on my recent experience there. I paid a lot of money (upfront) for a few basic changes to a simple dress, yet the alterations that originally needed to be done were never completed to my satisfaction, and the process was unnecessarily stressful because as they made alterations, aspects that had originally fit perfectly no longer fit! Before altering, the wedding dress fit perfectly in the waist, but the hemline needed shortening, the bust needed cups sewn in, and the sides of the dress around my arms/ribcage needed to be taken in so they didn't gap and show too much of the sides of my chest. After the first alteration, the waist no longer fit as it had been pulled up too high by shortening the straps of the dress, and was now settling in around my ribcage rather than at my waist. The armhole gaps on the side still gaped too much. After the 2nd alteration, the waist still didn't fit, the armhole gaps were slightly improved but still not acceptable. After the 3rd alteration, armhole gaps are still a problem, the waist still doesn't fit, and the fabric is puckered around the waist. When I pointed out issues to the seamstress, her response was a shrug of the shoulders and shaking her head "no" as if nothing could be done. I made an appointment for a fourth fitting, hoping it would all come together in the end. It was still not acceptable at the fourth fitting, which was now a week before my wedding. This time I noticed a sharp piece of wire poking out of the fabric from the hook and eye closure on the back of the dress, which I pointed out to the seamstress and customer service person. They did one more round of alterations, and then sent the dress to my office for the final delivery (two days before the wedding). I tried on the dress at work; the waist fit now, but the fabric was still puckered. The gaps around the armholes were still too big - exposing "side boob". The piece of wire was still poking out of the back of the dress, despite pointing out the issue at the last fitting. My co-workers all agreed I needed to go back and get it fixed. I had to take a half day off of work the next day to bring the dress back to Davis Cleaners, and wait for as long as it took for them to fix it on the spot. This is now the day before I fly to Florida for my wedding. Granted, everyone scrambled to work on the dress, and at my request, they assigned another seamstress to work on it that day. I was at Davis Cleaners from 2:30p-8pm that day while they fixed it. They managed to fix the armholes so no side boob was visible, but the fit was far from perfect, especially given I had 5 fittings. I expected much more from the reputed "Best In Chicago". read more

I found Davis Imperial when I called Bhldn for recommendations on where to get my Estelle wedding dress altered. The alterations team at Davis Imperial were fantastic and a breeze to work with when I brought in my wedding dress. I found the appointment times easy and convenient, and had no issues finding times to work with my schedule - which is saying a lot given how hectic the weeks leading up to your wedding can be. When one of the cups on my dress was not laying correctly, they fit and refit the fabric until it was perfect. Upon picking up my dress after alterations were complete, they sent me with an emergency kit to cover any potential mishaps on the big day. (Thankfully I didn't need it!) My dress fit like a glove and I felt absolutely stunning in it. The team even sent a giftcard after the wedding day with their congratulations, which I will definitely be using when I have my wedding dress hemmed and made into an anniversary dress. Prices were reasonable and clearly stated at every step along the way. I never felt pressured for add ons or extras. I would absolutely recommend them if you are looking for someone to trust to have your wedding dress altered! read more

My wife and I were in Chicago celebrating our anniversity after Christmas 2008 visiting from the Lake Tahoe, Nevada area.We were dining at the Chicago Chop House when a waiter and a busboy collided and spilled melted butter on my wife's suede leather coat.The day after the incident we discovered the butter on the coat and were told by the management to get it dry cleaned. We returned to the Hilton Palmer House and talked to Concierge Debbie Sawyer who recommended that Davis Imperial Cleaners come by the hotel and pick it up , clean it, and then send it back. We are so happy that Debbie suggested Davis Imperial Cleaners!The coat was sent back to us in brand new condition! Absolutely no signs of the butter. Wow! What a find. This place is THE BEST. I wore separates for my wedding day: an intricately beaded bodysuit and seven layer skirt...needless to say, they had their work cut out for them (not to mention me losing ten pounds between my first consultation and final fitting). I am beyond impressed with how perfectly and efficiently the Davis team altered my attire, and even added extras like hidden hooks to ensure the bodysuit stayed attached to the skirt, and a ribbon. At the last minute I opted to purchase a miniskirt to change into during my reception, and they did some minor alterations to that at no additional charge. I live out of state but my wedding was in Chicago, so they were really great at working with me to ensure I had proper fittings when I was in town. On top of everything, they delivered my dress to the wedding venue 24 hours before the wedding, and it included an emergency kit just in case. Davis did an amazing job on the alterations for my wedding dress! I got my dress at Glamour Closet in Chicago and they recommended Davis Imperial Cleaners to me. When all was said and done: I got a cleaning, press, alterations, bustle and they put in bra cups into my dress. The girl who helped me did a fantastic job! She showed me different style options for my bustle, took pictures and let me walk away to think about them afterwards. Appointments were made a few times before the final day and each time was concerned I was happy with the work she did on my dress. My only con would be it was a bit pricey but at the same time, I wanted my wedding dress to be perfect and fit comfortably so I think the price was worth it. read more

I was referred to Davis by BHLDN, where I bought my wedding dress. I'll admit that I initially had sticker shock, because the alterations were not cheap. But this is a case where I truly believe you get what you pay for. I paid $200 to alter a 3-layer hem, $100 to alter my lace topper and $60 to have my dress let out. For that price, Davis let me come back as many times as I needed to and request any changes I needed free of charge. I think I had a total of 4 fittings. In the end I was really, really happy with how the dress looked, and that confidence/peace of mind was worth every penny. I especially recommend Janna, who I mainly worked with. I was a bit stressed out about how everything was going to come together, and she was extremely patient and understanding! Also, you can store your dress at Davis and pick it up right before the wedding if you need to--I have 3 cats at home and I thought my dress might not be safe around them. When I picked the dress up, it was housed in a tissue "body" so the dress would retain its shape right up to the minute I put it on for the wedding. Excellent service, well worth the price. I used Davis Imperial for my dress alterations as they were a preferred tailor for BHLDN and I was very happy with the service. They let me book all of my fitting in advance at my first appointment (I believe I had 4) and I loved how I had a lot of time to make decisions. The dress turned out perfect on my wedding day and they even deliver the dress the day before your wedding so you don't need to pick up. It was a bit pricey, but I didn't call around so I'm not sure how it compares to other places (it's probably just Chicago prices). I highly recommend their team for your dress alterations! read more

I had my wedding dress altered at Davis Imperial Cleaners after purchasing an off the rack Judd Waddell dress at the Glamour Closet. The dress I walked in with was about 10 sizes too big, but on my wedding day it fit like a glove! The dress was almost ready to go after 1 fitting, but they really listened and fixed all the little details I needed changed. I'm so pleased with the job that they did on my dress, including altering a tricky lace hem. The price for alterations and cleaning was about $1200 (yikes!!), but it was worth it to be able to drop the dress off about 7 months before the wedding and not have to worry about it until it got delivered to my parents house the week before the wedding. I was able to easily schedule as many fittings as I wanted and Ketura was also so pleasant and helpful to work with. I'm so glad that I trusted Imperial with my dress! read more

Can I add more than 5 stars?? I brought in my mother's wedding dress from the early 80s asking if they could help me rework it into something that I could wear for my wedding this year. They turned a high heck, long sleeved empire waist gown into a strapless natural waist gown. They were even able to detail the veil to remove some of the bulky pieces and make it a bit more modern. Despite these changes, they preserved the integrity of the gown, using almost all original material taken from pieces of the dress that were cut off. I could not be happier with their work! If you have complex, important work to be done on any article of clothing, I would trust Davis Imperial with anything! read more

I was in contact with this dry cleaning company numerous time about a few items missing from my order. These items were sent in for repair and never received back into my possession. Time after time I was told the items were delivered. I have searched through my things, asked neighbors and my building's doorman and condo management office---they have no proof of delivery though delivery logs or security cameras on claimed delivery date and time. The customer service provided by this company is sad. It comes to a point where they are almost accusing their customers who, by the way, are loyal and have given them lots of money and trust with their clothes that they are liars. I do not have the items. Returning my calls, being sympathetic to the issue, and offering a solution is what a good business would do. Instead Davis Imperial just says "tough luck" and offers no concern or comfort to you and your missing your items. I have asked for a refund and none has yet been provided nor was any "proof of delivery" ever sent to me as promised. I feel scammed by David Imperial and I will preach the word to everyone who will listen about my experience. This company hides behind fancy garment bags and a sophisticated website. They don't care about you or your clothes. read more

I had originally taken my wedding dress to a local dry cleaner and it was destroyed. It was a simple satin strapless dress with a rhinestone and lace belt. It was basically put into a regular washing machine and dryer resulting in fabric that was shredded, an uneven hemline due to it being shrunk about 2 inches, the lace belt was ripped as well as the inside of the dress torn in two places. I then took my dress to Davis Imperial to see if they could at all restore it. To my amazement they were able to stretch the dress back out to the originally length, clean up the belt and repair then damaged satin as best as possible. Although some of the damage was not repairable, it is minimally noticeable and the dress is definitely able to be worn again. Keturah and the staff did an amazing job restoring my dress and I highly recommend them not only for restoration but preservation as well. They were very professional the entire time and when completed my dress was boxed and delivered to my home. read more
