Since I was specifically craving a smash burger, I decided to give it a try. The good news? The food was exactly what I came for. The smash burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked right. The fries were good, too. And as a bonus, they had Cherry Coke Zero -- which is surprisingly hard to find these days. For about $15 including the drink, I thought the price was completely fair for Venice. So why am I talking about 4.9 stars? Because my wife ordered lunch from the Italian place right next door. That's when an interesting comparison happened. I waited about 15-20 minutes for my order. When it was ready, I got up and picked it up myself. The burger came in a takeout container. After I finished eating, I threw everything away myself. Meanwhile, my wife received her food in about five minutes. It was served on a real plate. Someone brought it to the table. Later, a staff member came by to ask if everything tasted good and if she needed anything else. The funny part? She paid only a few dollars more than I did. Both of us left the highest tip option the terminal offered because we appreciated the effort and wanted to support local businesses. And that's exactly when it clicked. Burger Spot serves a very good burger. In fact, I'd happily come back. The food deserves the reputation. But when the restaurant next door delivers a noticeably better overall experience for almost the same money, the difference becomes impossible not to notice. So yes, I'm still giving Burger Spot 5 stars. The burger was good. The fries were good. The price was fair. It's a simple menu, with a choice of a la carte cheeseburger or fried-onion burger (choice of 1 - 4 patties), with chips (+2) as the only side option. The burgers are the normal burger size, with each beef patty ball (before being smashed) being 1/8 lb. There is a small condiment section with ketchup, mustard, dill pickles, and diced onions. After paying, you are given a pager. The food was prepared fresh and was ready in about 10 minutes. I tried the double fried-onion cheeseburger ($15.25). It was a good smashburger, using a good blend of beef and bacon, properly crisped around the edges. Getting the single would not have been enough beef, so glad I got the double. The fried onions did add the bitter sweetness, again confirming that getting grilled whole onions (for free) at In-n-out is the way to go. It would be hard to pay these prices for such little food, so definitely appropriate at breweries where alcohol tends to blur the line between value and 'i'm so hungry i'll pay anything'.

Here's the scoop on the parking:…read more Parking in the back lot is validated for 90mins before 5pm & 2hrs after 5pm. So you park, scan the QR code on the signs, & pay for EXACTLY 90 mins before 5pm or EXACTLY 2hrs after 5pm. It will ask for your license plate & cell number - it takes Apple pay. Don't close out the browser page, bc you'll need to enter in the parking validation. (Yes the total is a lot & yes you will be mad if you're used to what used to be easy & free parking. But just follow these instructions & have faith.) Once you get to your table, find the card next to the menus w/parking validation QR codes. Go back to the browser with the parking payment on your phone & scan the QR code that corresponds to the time of day you are there. It will automatically make your parking free, if you pre-paid for the correct amounts of time. I learned the hard way - do NOT pre-pay for anything besides 90mins before 5pm or 2hrs after 5pm bc the validation will NOT work & you will end up paying for the whole parking fee. Do this once & you'll remember from there on. And you can still park there for free. This location no longer serves alcohol - under new ownership, they didn't renew their license. But the food is still same, & the service is same, & once you get used to the parking validation, your parking will still be free. This is literally the only Counter I know of that is still around. I still love making my own burger on a huge salad!
