Long time visitor, first time reviewing. I love Dudley Market. It's such a perfect spot in Venice, slightly hidden off the boardwalk. The restaurant is always consistent, always packed. They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait. There's a few bars nearby if you're waiting. Once you're able to sit down, you'll find a cute wine bar with amazing food that doesn't disappoint. Don't skip the fries. They're some of the best things I've eaten. I dream about those fries. The Peruvian scallops are dreamy. Very light, very refreshing. The same can be said about the cucumber salad. The standout of the evening was by far the burger. I've been to Dudley Market a handful of times, and I'd yet to try it. I'm so glad that I did. So supposedly they don't take reservations during peak dinner period but we met someone that had a reservation so if you do walk up like we did before prepared to wait. We waited about an hour. An extremely lively and trendy lounge-type of restaurant on the Venice/Santa Monica border very close to the water. It is actually a block away from the beach. At night they move the tables and the DJ booth turns on and it turns into a mini nightclub and most of the patrons we saw were they to pick up champagne to share and drink on site, the food here seemed an afterthought. The crowd here is very young, most people are in their 20s. You'll probably be one of the older ones if you are in your mid 30s like myself. It's also very loud and it's more a place to go with friends or a date, it's not really a foodie destination, it's more of a lively place to spend the evening. Parking is honestly really hard in this area so we took a Waymo because we live a mile away. Aside from that you'll most likely need to pay for parking. Our waitress was very polite, but our food items arrived pretty slowly. I started off with the Chicory Salad. I thought it was pretty nice, it was really nice and light start, a perfect salad for spring. For my entree I chose the Burger with a side of Broccolini because I had heard a lot about it. Which you'll probably be seeing a lot of because of how long the wait for dinner here is? No better time than the present to address the elephant in the room: Yes, because this place is so gorgeous and trendy and such a vibe (I mean, all those TikToks of effortlessly LA-looking people killing time drinking wine on the sidewalk?), there'll definitely be a wait here if you come on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Will it be worth it? Well, maybe not if you end up having to wait two hours for a table. And if, once you're seated, the server actually ignores you and your friends for about ten minutes even though you spent those ten minutes trying to flag someone down for menus. And definitely not if the portion size is so small (and expensive) that you end up having to swing by the Taco Bell drive-thru on your way home because you're still hungry. Disclaimer: this place has a following so try to get a reservation. They don't offer many reservation slots but they have a few. You'll need to do it on Resy. Just a heads up search for the place on Resy rather than trying to make the reservation on their own site. I couldn't figure it out. The ambiance is what makes this spot. It reminds me of the fun New England seafood markets but with a little bit of a Venice twist. You'll find a genuine fried fish but then also sashimi which is fantastic by the way! I've heard about the burger here was good so I had to try it. I did a trip special for this. Burgers are probably one of my favorite foods and I prefer pub burgers. (These days there are way too much smash burgers). Anyways, I was disappointed because the meat was barely cooked. I'm not making this up either, look at the photo. In the plus side I did eat the whole burger because I'm okay with rare beef if it's high quality. The beef here was fresh and of high quality. They also seems to have seasoned the beef with some sort of steak like seasoning which was good. The bacon jam I did not like. It's not too sweet but the bacon pieces do distract from the rest of the burger. I'd much prefer a strip of real bacon if adding bacon. The bun was really good. A perfect bun. Besides, it's Venice so weekend was always crowd stealer in the area, which did mean parking could be tough but last weekend was my lucky day! We needed to wait a bit as our table still wasn't ready 15 mins passed our reservation time; thankfully our patience bank for the day was still full LOL. The venue gave me the vibe of beach house combined with green house; simply cute and slow. They're known for their seafood so we certainly didn't skip having a couple from their raw section. Our picks were their Peruvian Scallop and Bluefin Tuna Crudo. Served on ice, the scallops were fresh and juicy. Nothing fancy but palatable. I would skip the tuna though as it had that fishy hint a bit and the sauce was just okay to me. My friend got their Dudley Burger featuring wagyu as the protein and apparently was one of their top sellers despite being well-known for seafood. I went for the fried fish katsu as I wanna go all in with seafood theme. My friend did enjoy hers, though it's probably tad smaller in size compared to typical burger elsewhere. I came here without a reservation on a Saturday evening with a group of 4 people. Surprisingly, it wasn't too crowded and we were seated right away. The food here is great. I called multiple times with no answer, and when I finally asked the host about booking, I was told they only take reservations for the first hour of service. Went with a girlfriend on a Sunday shortly after they opened at 2pm & opted for a seat inside. The space is small but such a fun & cute vibe, located barely one block from the beach. We went with the scallop crudo, kanpachi crudo, mussels, burger & fries + orange wine to sip. The scallop crudo came out first, loved this dish. Fresh and bright and the scallops so tender. The mussels I thought were just okay. The mussels themselves were excellent quality but it was the broth that we both agreed was just meh. Needed a little something extra. I'd try again if they switched up how they're serving them. The kanpachi crudo was so good and a nice seasonal touch with the persimmon. You really can't go wrong with anything from their raw bar. Lastly, for the star of the show, the burger. This is probably one of the best burgers I've ever had, ever. It doesn't even need cheese because the arugula, sauce and caramelized onion jam carry it just perfect. Dudley Market has long been on my list of restaurants to try. We finally came here on a Thursday night in June. We found street parking nearby and arrived at close to 6. They only offer very limited reservation times, so we put our name down for a table and strolled around nearby. They quoted us an hour wait to be seated and it was a bit shorter than that. There were a bunch of people hanging around the high tables outside drinking wine while they waited for tables, which seemed pleasant as the sun was setting. We were seated immediately when our table was ready. The interior of Dudley Market features dark wooden tables and exposed rafters, exposed brick, and lots of light. There's a wall featuring records and wine bottles. It feels like a trendy spot to see and be seen. We got two appetizers and two mains each, including the caesar salad, half a dozen oysters, mussels and fish sandwich. Everything was good, but not amazing. Service was friendly. We never had to wait for anything very long, and could always get our server's attention when we needed it. Two of us arrived at 6:30 on a saturday night, without a reservation, hoping to be seated quickly (otherwise I strongly recommend you have a backup plan) and happily seated in a matter of minutes. Serving the Best burger at a seafood restaurant seems like an oxymoron; but the waygu beef burger (apparently 1/2 hanger and 1/2 chuck), dill aioli, cheese, lettuce, bacon (I omitted the bacon, BF had the bacon and said the bacon flavor was barely noticeable). We agreed the burgers were delicious, appreciating that the burger went to the edges of the brioche bun, so it wasn't dwarfed by the bread. Couldn't pass up the fries, which came out first, with just enough chili flakes to give them some heat but not actually spicy. Next time we'd try the seafood, since the plates being delivered to nearby tables glimmered with fresh fish. The portions looked small, so having fish will be a lot more expensive than burgers. I feel like I'm being lied to with all of these good reviews. Did we eat the same food? The location is probably the cause of all this high praise. It has to be. People with a lot of money historically have been bad with picking good flavors in food. The food is overpriced here, and it doesn't make sense why the cost is so high when the quality doesn't match it. I spent twenty dollars on the blue tuna, and it was laughably small and flavorless. The water Asian pear was sliced so thin, and soaked up the fish liquids, that it didn't taste like anything different. It tasted like the fish. It didn't feel like a nice touch. I've had better fish at hole in the wall spots in Little Tokyo. The burger was the reason I went, and I completely regret it. The arugula was a nice addition, but the mustard felt like it overpowered everything else. The meat wasn't seasoned properly. I don't necessarily like it when they choose wagyu for burgers. The whole point of wagyu being picked is because of how the fat is marbled, so what's the point if you're just gonna grind it up? I'd rather diff percentages of meat, different cuts. The fried sweet potato was the shining dish - and that's saying a lot since it was something I picked at random. The music selection is also another great aspect, and I liked the way the place looked inside. The service was good, and I don't think there needs to be improvement there. Screw this place -- I want my money and time back. We arrived at 6:20 PM and were told the wait would be around two hours. Located on a quiet alley near the Venice Boardwalk, Dudley Market provides a unique atmosphere of can and charm faintly resembling European bistro with its outdoor tables facing the Pacific. An added bonus was watching one of its fish suppliers unload his catch of vermillion rockfish from near Santa Rosa island, fine specimens all. Service was prompt and helpful if not a bit loquacious. On to the food - the bluefin crudo was good, even though next time I would order the sashimi to fully savor the fish without the added flavors from the sauces. The charred cabbage was interesting incorporating some smoky tastes to the crispness of the leaves. After seeing hundreds of pounds of beautiful rockfish unloaded in front of us, we were disappointed that the "filet" was about 5 oz of fish that frankly was OK but not the sublime flavor and texture I would expect from prime fresh fish expertly prepared as we have experienced in Europe and in leading US restaurants. At $32, this was a big disappointment. As far as the beverages, the wines were well curated with a generous pour. There were no nonalcoholic drinks available. The most attractive feature by far was the approach. There is ample parking available near Main Street; take the walk streets a few blocks to the restaurant and pretend that you are in a charming European village. The area surrounding the restaurant is quiet at night but might get busy in the summer. It worked out....no wait, and we got a nice table outside. The service was decent, though a bit confusing. Our server didn't introduce himself, so we kept thinking he was just clearing tables. When we mentioned wine, he quickly pushed a pricey bottle on us. The food was overpriced, which is to be expected for the location, but nothing really stood out. The oysters were the best part.
