Stopped here with some friends in hopes of a quick delicious dinner and drinks. Left incredibly disappointed. I was initially going to give this a 2 star review as our waiter was incredibly nice, however I would now like to give them 0 stars. When we went inside to use the restroom before leaving we walked in to 3 people who worked there not wearing their face masks properly and some of them not even wearing them at all. When the other members of my dinner party left the reviews over the experience we had the owner decided to reply and tell them that they were lying instead of having accountability over the situation. During times like these we have to really rely on everyone to do their part in keeping each other safe. Have some actual ownership over your business and don't accuse your patrons of lying. Beyond that- the food was bland, we didn't even take the leftovers home because it was so bad. read more

My fiancé and I dined here for the first time in about 6 years. We came in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Mediocre food - not bad, not great. Generally lacking flavor. The portions are decent for the price. The coffee was okay - not strong enough for my liking, but standard for a ma & pa breakfast joint. Good service - servers were all very pleasant and attentive. Food came out fast which was a plus Okay ambiance - looks like they recently painted? Overall decor is a bit dated, but gives it that homey feeling. Think your grandparents' home :) We'll give it another try before taking it off of our list of places to dine. read more

Decided to go around brunch time. The menu is small but has decent breakfast and lunch choices at good prices. The restaurant itself is fairly large with tall walls and plenty of seating. My only issue was that there was little on the menu for the non meat eaters like myself but I did able to order the Mac and cheese without bacon. Great new addition to Dixon's dining scene. Dawson's has reopened with a classier atmosphere & improved menu. This is your classic bar & grill with a long bar along one wall with a row of stools. They have a full bar and some great beers on draft. Bonus points for having Heretic on tap. The wine selection is decent as well. I've tried a handful of menu items on 3 separate visits and I am impressed. The shrimp tacos and beef sliders are perfect bar food. I want the recipe for the beans & rice that came with the tacos! I highly recommend the giant pretzel for any visit. At brunch today I had a fresh riff on Corned beef hash. It had roasted red potatoes, cabbage, peppers, and chunks of corned beef topped with a fried egg. It was excellent. My friend loved her biscuits and gravy. We both LOVED the bloody Mary's. On my first visit I shared the Mac n cheese with a friend and found it to be on the pasty side. Too much flour in the cheese sauce? It bland cheese - I'm not sure. I also had thee smallest pour of wine ever on that visit. I know large glasses can be deceiving - but you know when you've sipped 3 oz. vs 5 oz. But overall; I'm excited to return. The people were great, the atmosphere is fun (but loud, all hard surfaces just bounce that noise around) I definitely recommend this place for fun drinks, great food and a party atmosphere. read more

Dawsons has been a black hole in downtown Dixon for too long. I can remember years ago heading there fro brunch on Saturday or Sunday. You may have to wait an hour for a table. But that's OK, they had a bar and the entertainment of watching the food being prepared out front behind the second bar. And, of course, it was inevitable someone you knew would be there to chat with. In the last few years the place sold a couple times and it went way down. Good news, Jill Orr and husband Greg bought the place. Hired competent staff including good cooks and away we go. I have been hearing really nice things. You are bound to hear things, Dixon is a small town. Greg Orr was my next door neighbor years ago. But when you hear its good and bad. The new Dawsons has been touted as all good. So I came in with expectations. Wife and I out for a Friday night meal. And, yes, I am so glad they are close. I usually have to drive to Vacaville. Anyhow, we walk in, the bar is packed. They have added several tables where the old 2nd bar was. Those tables are packed. This place is no secret, obviously. The tables in back were full as well. There was no hostess stand so we had a little bit of guessing as to what to do. A waiter saw our confusion and stepped in to assist and eventually found us a table. Of course before we sat we saw friends we had not seen in awhile. Had to chat for ten minutes. Just like old times. We ordered some appetizers. Wasabe deviled eggs only $6. I ordered them because I love deviled eggs, no other reason. Very flavorful though I want the heat when it says Wasabe. I did like them. We ordered drinks. Wife had a Margarita and I had a glass of red wine which I picked from the wine list. The house wine I would consider undrinkable. I am picky. My wife's drink was terrible. This place has been a bar for enough years they could make a decent margarita. Awful. Almost flavorless. This why you get 4 stars. I was a bartender for many years as was my wife, so I expect a certain level here. Hey Jill, make better drinks. My red wine was good and they have several selections on the wine list which would cover most tastes. On to dinner. My wife ordered the burger which comes with fries. I want to say, the fries were incredible. I have trouble describing them. Crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. Perfection would be a word I could use. Don't change this recipe. The burger was very good as well, but the fries really stood out. Order it medium rare. Just saying. I ordered the pork chop which comes on top of sautéed spinach and creamed parsnips. Chop was medium rare. Had and apple chutney of sorts on top. Also medium rare. Wow, did I order well. My entire plate was perfect. All of it. It worked well together and each item separately. I found myself gnawing the bone at the end. Might have been the best part. Just excellent. I may have to order it again next time. Service was a bit spotty. I can't say or waitress was dedicated to certain tables. Someone else took the drink order. The owner delivered the food. I did not lack for anything but not much attention except when delivering something. So don't be needy. We did not order dessert. Too full. The offerings looked good and not too expensive. Not many choices. We did have coffee which was served in buckets, okay large cups, plenty hot and good. All in all, they have been open a very short time. So I can forgive small issues. Food was great, so that's most of it for me. I will be coming back, at the very least to try the rest of the menu and find out if fries can come with anything. Great fries. One of the worst breakfast I've ever had dining out, and I've been to a few Denny's and iHops in my lifetime. My husband and I walked in to one employee and one customer at the bar chatting. We sat ourselves down and she came soon after and took our orders. I ordered the beef short ribs with hash browns and eggs over easy, my husband the biscuit and gravy with bacon and scrambled eggs. Food came out in a decent amount of time. Presentation was awesome but that first bite took me by surprise. The hash browns were not at all edible! It was hard and translucent. Weird. How they managed to cook that and serve it was beyond me. I asked for another set of hash browns which came 15 minutes later. By that time, I was over it. I ended up having some of my husbands, it was bland but it was better than what came with my meal. My husband said his biscuits were stale and slightly cold. Gravy was also bland, no sausage flavor. I don't even know if it had sausage, more like flour clumps. Server was nice. Maybe lunch and dinner is more their thing, breakfast not so much. $50 wasted. Recommend: Maybe lunch or dinner. Skip their breakfast. Oh and my eggs came over medium not over easy. read more

Good food and good times when we visit Dixon. Service is great! Visit from Vacaville. We enjoy Dixon and the small town feeling.

I have had worst service, but I can't remember when. Waited 45 minutes for a greasy sandwich and limp fries. Then waited another 15 minutes for my order which was a bunch of cabbage with two cold shrimp in a hard as a rock taco shell. Luckily you could eat the tacos or as much as you could stomach with your fingers because neither one of us were even given knives or forks. Never again read more

Stumbled across this gem when passing through Dixon! My fiancee and I both got a burger which was really good, and the fries and ranch were super herby and delicious. They were even kind enough to let our dogs hang out on the front patio with us while we ate. It was pretty busy when we showed up around 8pm, so I dont blame them for not being super attentive to us especially because we were outside but it would have been nice to have our waters refilled and not have to wait a while for the check. read more

Really enjoyed our dinner here last night Note: the service was pretty subpar, for example: we were brought a pitcher of Ice Water that only filled like 4/5 of the table guest's cups, and wasn't offered a refill until much later in the meal. The servers did not seem to care about checking on how we were doing. That being said - they still get five stars because of the food. Might have had the best pretzel I have ever had. They have a different kind of deviled eggs I have never seen before, and the table was raving. My mac and cheese and southwest chop salad were both excellent and reasonably priced! This is a tough one. Food was great especially for the price, however service was pretty bad. I had the sea bass which was very good, seasoning was a bit strong but I liked it. My girlfriend had the short rib which was also great. For appetizer we had the garlic toast, that was a little disappointing for the price, seems like the free bread you get at most places. Service on the other hand was pretty horrible. Our server was busier hanging out at the bar talking crap than she was actually making sure we had drink or that our food was coming out in a timely manner. Even the toast seemed to have taken forever. So I would say 4 star food 2 star service. read more

My family and I moved to Dixon 8 months ago and Dawson was our first stop. We felt in love with their food. Breakfast burritos are AMAZING and their Mac and cheese my favorite. We have never had a bad meal . Drinks do need improvement their limes are always old and brown. When ordering expensive tequilas I'd rather get a fresh lime wedge. For some reason their drinks don't taste good I don't know what it is...All their alcohol taste as if it's from the well cheap liquor... needless to say we go toBUD'S for drinks and Dawson's for food. read more

We are so thrilled to have discovered Dawson's! So much, in fact, that we've gone there twice in one week - and we live 30 miles from Dixon. Loved the food - I had the pork chop which is probably one of the best I've ever had. Cooked perfectly and sooo tender. We also ordered a side of the dill fries & the bacon topped Mac n cheese. Would definitely order again. Love the way it's decorated - great ambiance. The staff is VERY attentive too. We'll be back! read more
