Went here for dinner with a friend. Sat at the bar. We were greeted in a timely manner. Had a glass of house wine and for dinner we ordered Shrimp Tacos and the Fettuccine. It took a a while for our food to come out. As we chatted in conversation our food finally arrived. We were hungry. As we started to eat our food. I took a bite of my Shrimp Tacos they were cold. My friends Fettuccine was cold to. The lady came up and ask us was ate food ok. We proceeded to tell her our food was cold. She offered a discount which I thought was not good enough. In my opinion we should got 50% or free. This is why they messed up on my friend's Fettuccine with the wrong noodles. I could say the plate looked appetizing and food was good. I just wish it was a hot meal we were paying for. Btw they do have a happy hour. Might go back and try it again we shall see. read more

The mac and cheese is awful! It tastes like chocolate and it's gritty. Fried pickes were bad but were sour. My lemonade tasted like water with sugar in it. This is a nice little place in downtown Dixon. The parking on the street was very suspect. I am not certain if there is a parking structure close by for when it's really busy down there. We came in with no reservations, sat down and was greeted promptly. We both ordered off of the lunch menu, and both food items were delicious. The chicken sliders had a bit of a kick to them, there were jalapeños on them.. Unlike most chicken sandwiches these were very flavorful. The garlic fries were so delicious. Sat ourselves and had to grab our own menus from the counter. We ordered pastrami sandwich (with red potatoes instead of fries) and a lemon poppyseed pancakes. After ordering, we waited a total 50 minutes before our food came to us. Our server came about 30 minutes after ordering to let us know that the food would be delayed because we ordered behind a big party; I appreciated him letting us know. The food, however, was EXTREMELY disappointing. All of our food -- the sandwich, potatoes, pancakes, and bacon -- was cold. The "Hot" pastrami sandwich was cold, and the cheese had congealed into a pretty solid layer. This wasn't just the surface of the food cooling because of the AC/fans, but the food was cold all the way through to the center. I was also confused, because the restaurant wasn't particularly busy at the time we ordered (there were quite a bit of open tables). The potatoes were also not seasoned properly; they were very bland, which is impressive to me because I do usually like foods a bit more plain to begin with. I had to season quite liberally with salt. Additionally, the lemon poppyseed pancakes tasted like regular, plain pancakes. Both I and my friend did not taste any lemon; there were barely any poppy seeds either (except the one spot where quite a bunch settled to the bottom, making it bitter). I tried to call over another server (who I believe may have been the owner? but I am not too sure), but when I waved to her, she ignored me and looked at me pointedly. When we brought up the concerns about cold food to our original server, who had to be brought over by a different person, he offered to microwave our food for us. However, we chose to just finish our meal, because after 50 minutes of waiting, we were both extremely hungry and just wanted to get out of the restaurant and leave after this unpleasant experience. I will note -- our server was kind and did offer us a discount, which we appreciated. +1 star because our server was polite; I do not blame him at all for what happened, as it was very clear he was doing his best to help out all the tables. However, we will definitely not be returning. This was very unpleasant. read more

Lunch date with my friend who I haven't seen in person since before Covid! We needed somewhere to meet 1/2 between us and Dixon fit the bill. Our original choice of restaurant (The Frying Pan) turned out to be closed all weekend, so we walked down the street and found Dawson's. It was a good choice! Cute neighborhood place, with friendly staff. We shared Wasabi Deviled Eggs, Steak Bites and we both had Wedge Salads. With a couple glasses of wine. For such a busy restaurant, we were served VERY fast - which was great because we were all eager to eat. We ordered dill seasoned fries for the table with a side of ranch. I would skip the ketchup in general and keep to the ranch for these. The shrimp tacos were a little on the salty side, but had great spices and a little heat packed on. I would order these again! The southwest chopped salad with chicken was also on the salty side (the chicken portion), but overall a filling meal. Needed a spot in Dixon to meet over lunch to discuss some business matters. The reviews for Dawson's looked pretty good so we decided to give it a try. When I walked in, I found the establishment reminiscent of a 1970's musky, old bar with some dining tables spread around. (I kinda like the vibe, brings back memories of the good ol' days). Anyway.... On to the review. The bartender, who was doubling as the server, was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was really good. I ordered the Grilled Turkey Ortega Sandwich with fries. It was grilled turkey served on a fresh, soft French roll. I was actually expecting grilled bread, but I was surprised and pleased with what I got! My colleague ordered the hot pastrami on a pretzel bun; he said his was really good, too. My mom and I stopped to have lunch here. She had the tuna sandwich, which was huge and so good! It had pickles, onion, and was on thick white bread. I had the grilled chicken with an Ortega Chile. It was also very good. But, the star of the show were the French fries and homemade ranch. We asked our server what the fries were coated with and she said it was a secret, only after divulging that they had dill and a secret spice that the restaurant makes. Second visit to Dawson's bar and grill in Dixon California this year. It is a very trendy casual bar environment with a nice menu and drinks at a full bar. We were only passing through and had time to kill so we stopped in for a drink, we had a Mimosa, beer and coffee. The environment is pretty noisy. it was football Sunday and the place was full. The food looked and smelled delicious that we saw past by but we were not able to enjoy it on this trip. As we come this way frequently I'm sure we will enjoy dining there in the future. read more

We finally got to Dawson's for lunch. It's pretty dark inside, with all the dark wood. It was a seat yourself time of the day, so we sat ourselves, and the waitress came right away to ask us what we wanted to drink. She came back with our drinks promptly. She took the table's order next to us, then came to us right after, impressively memorized 4 people's orders. The food was fast and tasty. I do think they used way too much lettuce for the garnish on the calamari and in the burgers. The waitress did her job, nothing exceptional, no real customer service to make you feel welcome. So I'm sure when she reads this she'll think, "I did what I was supposed to do" and not give a shit about this post but because of that, I wouldn't rate it a 5. read more

Checked out this spot for lunch today with a coworker. We were a little weary but we're so glad we gave it a chance! It was so delicious. We got the chicken sandwich lunch special and the pulled pork sliders. The sliders were delicious, they must pickle their own pickles because my friend said it was the best pickle she's ever had in her sandwich and it's reminiscent of when her grandmother would make her own. My sandwich was really delicious as well. A classic grilled chicken sandwich. They also already included ketchup and ranch on the side without having to ask! The waitress was friendly. This spot was also clean, the bathrooms were up-kept, the Long Island drink was perfectly made. They also offer outdoor seating. What a change from when we tried out Dawson's under the prior ownership. There are more dining tables, more patrons eating as opposed to just drinking, and a room divider that makes the back dining area quieter. We went for lunch on a Saturday (around 12:30 p.m.) and I had checked their website online beforehand and saw the weekend brunch menu included "Salmon Cake Benedict" which was to be my order. The menus we received did have a weekend brunch section but did not include the salmon. I ordered the Hot Pastrami Sandwich and my husband the Dawson's Burger. My sandwich fell apart when picked up as the bottom of the pretzel roll was not substantial enough for all the wet ingredients though it was tasty. My husband's burger was huge and he enjoyed it. The dill fries were pretty good but could have been crispier. The lemon poppyseed pancakes sound good so perhaps we'll come for breakfast the next time we're in Dixon. read more

This is a very unassuming place with good food and great atmosphere. A little pricey, but I like it better than the place across the street. Our food was still hot and arrived quickly by our server. Didn't have to wait long for drinks or food. Due to the $$-$$$ prices, it's perfect for dates and special occasions. Menu changes, but they do have staples. I enjoyed my Reuben sandwich a lot and was bummed to find it was discontinued. However their other sandwiches and burgers are very good according to others dining with me. read more
