Wrote this review on Mehr's specific yelp page, but she is part of this Salon so I wanted to X-post it here too (yes, she's just THAT fabulous). I came in with a scary ask for any stylist: I wanted to chop 8 inches of my hair to donate it. Cue the alarms that would make most people quite nervous because every girl loves her hair, and you don't want to be caught between her and a "short hair don't care" gone wrong moment. Mehr made me feel comfortable from the start as it was very clear that she knew what she was doing. I got a deva cut and she also styled it afterwards using the deva products. I absolutely love how my hair came out. I'm so glad to have found a hair stylist in Sunnyvale that knows what they're doing with curls!!!! Cannot recommend Mehr enough. Additionally, I was SO impressed with this Salon in general. Such a hidden gem in Sunnyvale. Everyone was so nice, and they are SUPER knowledgable when it comes to hair. read more

1. Removing one star because they literally announce LOUDLY while swiping your card "Do you wanna leave a tip?".. Makes for a very uncomfortable experience. Happy clients will leave a tip. Don't call them out in front of everyone. 2. Removing one star for pricing discrepancies. The most recent pricing chart on website indicates $20 additional charge for extra color bowl. BUT they charged $24 instead. Don't nickle-and-dime customers! Keep pricing consistent based on short, medium, long hair. I am sure you do not shave off $$ for a client where you use less color. read more

She took so much time to ask me about what I do what I want and all that, which made me feel so heard! She fixed a really bad haircut of mine, and when I say she slayed that's an understatement! She taught me how to do my hair (also using techniques that I do on myself) , which was huge for me Bc no other place has cared enough to cater around my hair needs! I had my first haircut at DBS today, with Nelly! She's so great at curly cuts. Took her time asking me how my hair behaves, what I am looking for and what she recommends. There was no push for making me buy any products or rushing me through the process. The end result turned out so cute and I am a happy camper! If you have curly hair you know it's hard to manage and even harder trusting someone to cut your hair. My hair is like a spring coil in a pen and I needed a new shaping/trim bad. I found Sandra on the DevaCurl site and liked her yelp reviews so I decided to give her a shot. I called to schedule an appointment and she had time to talk to me so we talked for about 20 minutes before booking. The day of my appt. I get to the salon and we talk about my likes/dislikes. I didn't want to cut my hair off because I normally do and this is 2 years of growth from my last big chop. I prefer a taper cut with not much hair peeking out from behind my ears and the nape of my neck. She didn't take too much off, her assistant (I assume) Sassy T was nice and helped detangle me. After I was done and styled we went back over my hair with the mirror to fix anything I didn't like or anything she saw. If you have curly hair, DBS Salon is a godsend! I just got back from having my hair cut by Sophia and she is an absolute curly hair magician! I hadn't had my hair cut in a while and it was getting long, straggly, and dry. The salon staff was so friendly and accommodating. Sophia was very personable and professional and asked me questions about my hair care routine, what products I used, how often I washed my hair, etc. I told her what I wanted and she listened intently and took so much time and care cutting and styling my hair. She gave great advice on how to care for hair in between washes and how to style. The final look was absolutely stunning - rich, healthy, shiny, bouncing curls with TONS of volume! Five years ago, in the depths of a depression, I Yelped "curly hair cuts" and found Sandra. She gave me a cut I could wear straight or wavy and started educating me about my hair. She also became a staple in my life. Sandra has cut and colored my hair more times than I can count over the past five years. I've been blonder, more chocolatey, neon pink, ultraviolet purple, mermaid sunset, and if she told me orange and black plaid would bring out my clear skin and love of teaching, I'd do it. Sandra is worth her price. Mehr and Sofia have both earned kudos and tips for routinely stellar hair washes and scalp massages that are relaxing even in a shampoo chair! Note on location: this is within Sola Salon Studios, don't be confused by the address! You won't see it from the street, you'll have to find the studio within the larger building (all beauty salons!). This review is long overdue! I've been going to Sandra for over three years, and she's been responsible for every compliment I've gotten on my hair in all those years. She not only does a killer curly cut and knows how to work with all sorts of different textures, she also does AMAZING color. Nearly every time I've gone in I've not been totally sure what I wanted and she's always had suggestions and I've always left happy. My color and cut always look good for the 3-4 months between appointments; she knows how to cut for growth and apply color for fading. I can't say enough about how much I love her work! Since I moved to the south bay I have been looking for someone I trust and knows what they are doing. Let me tell ya its been interesting. I have a hair girl I love but she is in Fremont and I just need quick cuts right now. Its just too far. OK so the goods. I drive by this salon Head to Toe everyday and not to be mean it looked kinda questionable with the large "walk ins welcome" signed and promotions posted. But I called and they were very helpful and set me up with Sandra. Well did I get lucky. I have a VERY delicate situation going on with my hair. I am growing my hair out for the 2nd time in 4 years from cancer treatments. So when I say I want to junk punch anyone who over cuts my hair or doesn't listen, I'm not lying. She instantly gave me good vibes. Great energy too, I felt her confidence and it helped that I saw her walking out a client she just cut and styled and it looked so pretty. So I just had her cut my mom mullet off but I tell ya some people just can't seem to do it right. She did it right. I also love she knows curly hair. My hair used to be straight/wavy and this time it came in really curly and I'm new to it all. I will post a picture of my before and after. Side note, I'm also a cosmetologist and used to do hair. Sandra gave me a pixie cut for the first time in my life. I have thick wavy hair that can be a little hard to work with, so I was apprehensive about taking a chance with a new style. I had lots of reference pictures I brought in, and her consultation was very helpful. She made sure I realized the upkeep of a short hairstyle, but also reassured me that it is very fun a big confidence booster once I adjust to it. Sandra cuts hair dry first, then washes (along with a very relaxing scalp massage), and then makes additional adjustments after drying. She explained that haircuts are very specific to the individual, and that she perfects the haircut more and more with every visit. Considering how great it turned out it's hard to imagine it improving! I'm very glad I chose Sandra for such a drastic cut, and will definitely stick with her. The only downside is the cost ($75 cut, $50 for trims/follow-ups), which is more than I am used to paying. However, she is definitely worth it! read more

I rarely write reviews for my hair stylists, but Nelly from DBS salon did such a great job, that I just have to leave this 5 star review. Nelly is super professional and a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend her for any hair type. Admittedly, my hair is straight and not difficult to style but for some reason unbeknownst to me, I just couldn't get a really good haircut that I LOVE in a long while. All that until yesterday, when I came to Nelly with a vague description of what I want and some Pinterest pictures, and she has just surpassed all my expectations. She did the perfect layers, and now my hair just looks great without me having to use any products and I just LOVE it! I'm not sure why I am only just writing a review as I have been a client of Sandra for a while now. I have lived in the bay for the last two years and after moving I waited as long as possible to get a cut as I was nervous to try someone new. I searched here on Yelp and after reading the numerous amounts of positive reviews, I booked an appointment. In my first appointment she asked me numerous questions about what I wanted, what types of products I used and other pertinent questions that related to my hair all while she examined my hair. In addition to a great cut, she explained a lot of things about my hair that I didn't know like that I had been using the wrong type of shampoo and conditioner. After I left, I took her advice and made some switches and my hair changed dramatically for the better. Since the first visit, she has been extremely friendly, easy to talk to and she clearly loves what she does and she continues to expand her education of her craft so that she is always on top of new techniques, products and styles. Above all the, the one thing I have always valued is her honesty. I decided I wanted a hombre but at the time I had black hair. Rather than just taking my money and doing it, she explained the amount of damage that would do to my hair because of all the levels that my hair would have to rise from to get to the color I wanted. She explained how we could do it in a healthier more natural way that would avoid over bleaching which would give me severe damage. She could have made a ton of money off of me by just doing it but she cares about her clients and producing quality work. As she promised, I have an hombre and my hair feels so soft I love it! Any and every curly haired girl needs to come see Sandra! I was a little apprehensive on getting my hair cut by someone completely new because I have been on a healthy (and long) curly hair journey for some time now, however, due to the massive amount of heat damage I decided it was just better to cut it all off! After extensive research, I found Sandra's Yelp and was pleased at what I saw! She truly deserves all of her 5 star reviews. I came in ready to cut off all of my hair, into a pixie, however, after our consultation we decided to go for a short, angled bob, using the DevaCut method. Sandra also told me about more ways I could look after my hair. While cutting and styling my hair she made sure to tell me everything she was doing and why she was doing it. She also showed me how I could style my hair at home with the Deva products she used (which I purchased). Sandra also recommended that I come in every 3-6 months to get a trim until all of my heat damage ends are gone. Sandra is so sweet and actually cares about how her clients feel about their hair, and listens to my concerns. The whole appointment went very smoothly and it felt like I had been going to a friend for a haircut! I cannot wait to continue on my hair journey with her! Went here to get my first curlycut and my experience was amazing! I got my cut from Rian and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to be. They explained every step and products they were using. I love my hair cut by Nelly! I recently moved to the SJ area and was looking for someplace local that specializes in curly hair (the days of driving up to SF are long gone!) I had added myself to the waitlist online a few months back and had no luck with hearing back for any cancellations. I desperately needed a cut and decided to reach out to the shop directly by phone and text to and see if it was possible to book. Very considerate and professional exchange with Dina, and she got me in in less than a week for a cut with Nelly. It was my first time at the salon and Nelly took time to educate and understand my curl history. My curls haven't had this much bounce or definition in a while. Sandra is AMAZING. My hair is not just curly its not like most curly hair in that its fine, thin, but has crazy volume. This means I have even more trouble finding someone who can manage it than Normal curly hair. Sandra knew exactly what she was doing and was even able to teach me the whys behind what does and doesnt work with MY curly hair. She makes magic and is constantly getting better! She is the only one i truly trust to cut my crazy hair and I have loved watching everything she does on her fb page. The service was good, the salon stylist was nice but it was too expensive for my taste. They charged me for extra dye and conditioner. My hair isn't long but it's a little thick. I was just surprised been to other place where they didn't charge to use extra dye. They gave me a great haircut but I don't think it was worth $300 read more

I originally went in on the 29th for a consultation with Sandra. I really wanted my hair fixed before the 14th of February. Luckily someone cancelled and she was able to help me right then and there. My hair is long and pretty healthy. The problem however was all the colors going on. My roots were ridiculous, and my colors were very blotchy. Sandra made me feel so comfortable. I briefly met Sandra YEARS ago as a model when she was doing hair and make up for a show. She was professional, sweet, and made me feel really comfortable. Fast forward a few years and I saw she posted about doing haircuts unique for people with curly hair. I recommended my mom because she has gorgeous little corkscrews. My mom started seeing Sandra for her regular cuts and color. I was hesitant because I didn't feel like my hair warranted special cuts for curly hair. But it turns out that I was totally missing out and depriving my hair of its natural texture. I had no idea that my hair had it in itself to be this curly!!!!!! Sandra coaxed these gorgeous natural curls out of my typical frizzy hair. Here is what I experienced with a Deva cut by Sandra: - Arrived and was offered coffee or tea. Sandra's assistant chatted me up while I waited. - Sandra took me right to the chair and CUT MY HAIR DRY. I had never had my hair cut dry, and LOVED it. This way she could actually see what my hair shape would look like with my natural hair. This was the first time a stylist didn't wet my hair down, hold it straight, and cut it. - Then I got a wash with the Deva products with the most glorious head massage. While my hair was washed and conditioned, the stylist talked me though how I should wash/condition my hair at home. - Next I was shown how to gel/clip/dry my hair at home and was placed under the dryer. (Side note, the dryer station has a desk and iPad.) - My cut ended wit a quick consult about how to care for my curls at home. While obviously my hair won't look as good when I do it as when a professional stylist does it, I'm so happy with how good my curls turn out on a daily basis! I rarely use heat, I maybe feel the urge to straighten my hair a few times a year, it takes me 10 minutes to do my hair and I only wash it a few times a week, and I've found some ways to freshen up my curls in between washes. Obviously I'm rating Sandra 5/5 stars. She has empowered me to work my natural hair that I was so often trying to change. read more

She really understands and knows curly hair and what will spring it to life to keep it looking good! She cut and shaped my hair for it to curl so much better. Her assistant, Sophia, did an amazing deep conditioning on my hair that really nourished my curls. They both helped me to understand the proper hair routine that would be best for me to do based on my type of curl I have. They also helped me know which Deva Curl products would be great to use on my hair and which ones to avoid with my hair and curl. So helpful!! This is a late review for a devacut h appointment. Sandra and her assistant were very welcoming. I was the first appointment of the day, so it was nice coming in early morning. I brought a few haircut ideas and Sandra gave me her expert opinion of what cut would better fit me and I went with what she suggested. I also asked what I could do to make my hair feel soft and clean; she suggested a redken shampoo to help remove product buildup. I have been pleased with her suggestions and appreciate her easygoing attitude and helpful suggestions throughout my entire hair appointment. Till date I haven't discovered my original hair. Always tried to tame my waves and make it look straight or blow dried. Every time I go for a haircut it looks great at the salon but just until the next hair wash. And then I just start not to like my hair and I just can never achieve the blow dry effect a hair stylist gives. Today I happen to visit Sandra, first time ever. I found about this place while I was looking for a Deva specialist in their website, and given the good reviews I decided to give it a try. Booking appointment is very simple, but I would recommend booking in advance as Sandra is pretty much booked for months. ( I already booked my next appointment in May). She was still able to squeeze me in for a 6pm appointment on a weekday. I went there all nervous, looking like a freak show with my hair down and no products, but Sandra welcomed me with so much excitement, I loved her enthusiasm. I had in mind to get a pixie cut, but after discussing with her and looking at my volume, she suggested we go with bob, and I am so glad I trusted her with this. She gave me a dry cut and then her assistant shampooed my hair, showed me how to use the products and gave me the most amazing massage. I loved how my hair turned out.
