    Italian Sub
    Reagan N.

A must come place if you like a traditional hoagie / sub / sandwich and are vegan. The interior of the place has a great vibe too. Fast service. Friendly staff. Interesting/unusual vegan cookies and other desserts too.

This place ROCKS! Got a steak and cheese sandwich piled high with seitan, sautéed onion and cheese sauce. It was everything I want from a vegan sub. One of the best I've ever had dare I say... Lots of fun old Batman posters on the wall and cool music playing. Fun spot!

The Surf & Turf Special (get it!!)

We ordered the special (The Surf & Turf Special) - it has seasoned chickpeas (aka tuna) sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese, tempeh bacon, vegenaise. So good! Would get again. The breakfast melt was veerryy good. It has organic seasoned tofu, choice of seitan, tempeh bacon or sausage, cheese, spinach, tomato, and roasted red pepper aioli. We got it with the sausage, which the cashier recommended. The cookies are made in house and vegan. The chocolate chip was sooo good! We couldn't believe it was vegan. We got everything to go. There's no parking in front of the restaurant. We had to park in the residential area on the street.

Mr Mr. Beef (Italian Beef) - Sandwich week special 2025
    Sarah C.

Stopped by DC Vegetarian for Sandwich Week 2025! Got their special (Mr Beef) as well as an Italian Sub. I was happy with the order - they were pretty large portions, definitely something two people could have half of and feel satisfied. They're delicious, but you could tell they were vegan. This is an all-vegan business, serving sandwiches and burgers, wings, salads, soups and chili, some breakfast options, sides like pickles and chips, and desserts. I would say sandwiches are the focus and they range from $12-$15. They also sell some of their vegan meat by the pound. I believe they make nearly everything from scratch, so major props for that. Street parking only and it's not right out front. Takeout or dine in.

my go to for a quick bite -- #4 steak breakfast sandwich is so yummy and DC makes their proteins in house. i love the sauce on this sandwich and i always enjoy dining in. also, you can buy proteins in bulk !

I got my vegan steak & cheese fix! So fresh, tasty, and not hyper processed. Becky & Damian were friendly, and answered my questions about the food and concepts. I'd like to go back and try all the menu items. Highly recommend.

Ordered the Italian sub and it did not disappoint. Totally legit and perfect submarine sandwich.

This all-vegan restaurant started as a food cart in downtown Portland back in 2009. Now they have their own brick and mortar, and they make their own seitan in house! Yes, please! I ordered the reuben, and it was the biggest, most delicious sandwich you could ever ask for. It was seriously enough for 2 meals if you're not a huge eater! The staff was super friendly. There was no line. There's picnic tables out front where you can eat, but it's mostly a takeout spot. I recommend doing what I did and taking your food a couple blocks down to the park and sit under the shade of a giant tree.

The cliff notes: really good fast vegan food! They have. Burgers, sandwiches, and melts. Super simple/ small menu but quality items. During the pandemic they're currently only offering takeout, I suggest calling your order in as you drive over. I was craving something hearty and comforting so I got the Philly cheesesteak and boy did it fit the bill. They were busy but they still managed to get this out to me in under 20! It was stuffed with seitan, their homemade sauce ( cheesy and creamy in nature) and the peppers and onions were perfectly grilled! 10/01. I ended up adding bbq to mine ( bc I am a huge bbq fan) and omg it added so much to it! I also saved half bc it was so filling and heated it up the next day and it wasn't soggy / had the same flavors. My only recommendations would be to offer to add grilled jalapeños to it- that would add such a lovely kick! And lastly to offer fries or some hot sides- this would've paired so nicely with some crispy fries, I ended up going across the street to the doghouse truck to snag some fries and a place to sit. Give this place a try next time you're in the area.

I cannot wait to come back here! The food is so good and without any of that "I took a life just so I could enjoy a tasty meal" guilt! Ya know, unless guilt is like your thing... Actually no, even if guilt is your thing you should try this restaurant out. You can feel guilt about other things, eating too much here, spending too much here, or even drinking too much here. Hot damn I'm helpful! My place is in the Pearl so I had to actually Uber here. It is totally worth the extra trouble! The uber driver told me her life story and how she became a Mormon. So I had lots to mull over while I contemplated my order. I decided on the War Eagle. Delightful! I tucked into those bourbon bbq curls like I hadn't been fed in days! The bbq wasn't too sweet, and it had a great texture. Chips on the side helped scoop what had fallen from my sandwich as I ate it... wish they had fries... I also had a bourbon based mixed drink to keep my party going ... it was huge! Tasty and well mixed! I'm counting down the days (a couple weeks) before I visit again. Totally wish they'd open one in San Diego!

I have the best daughter-in-law in the world (actually two of them). Amy can sniff out a new restaurant like nobody's business. And she hit big-time on this one. We ate on the patio, which is beautiful, and my 3 year old niece had the time of her life in the bamboo 'forest' looking for pandas and koalas. We had two of the most charming women as servers, but I wrote down their names on the merchant-copy of the receipt, so I can't tell you who they were. As stated in the other reviews, this is a foodie's ideal. I you are going to order the hamburger, which is good, order something green for the table with it. If you want medium-rare, order rare. They change the menu alot, so I hope this is still be on it when you go. For dessert, "The Floating Island". Start with cream anglaise, then add green strawberries and rhubarb around the edges (totally counter intuitive for me, but worked perfectly!) and in the middle is a rectangle of meringue (the best I have ever had in my life) and a spoonful of lime granite to top it off. Spectacular! Go for it and Go !!!

Back patio is maybe best outdoor space in SE Portland. 3) Magnificent staff. Bartender was Caitlyn (I think? I'm so bad with names, sorry). I haven't had a friendlier, more bubbly bartender in all my life. Definitely not in this city. There was even a woman who was being super rude and condescending about getting IDed while I was there (her and her friends looked 19-22ish, didn't understand her gripe) and Caitlyn handled it with poise and grace. The guest/lady was genuinely awful. I can never understand how servers and bartenders take that sort of treatment. They deserve better! 4) Surprisingly impressive whiskey selection for a neighborhood bar. Not huge but certainly curated. I didn't get anything fancy but it's nice to know the options are there!! Overall: If I lived closer this would probably be my every week haunt. This is a good neighborhood bar where you can be comfortable and cozy and not spend a lot of money if you don't want, but if you want to throw the pinky up and get a bit bougie you have plenty of cocktail and spirit options with an aesthetic that is kind to the eyes. 10/10, would recommend, and will return!
