The Surf & Turf Special (get it!!)
Hee Y.

We ordered the special (The Surf & Turf Special) - it has seasoned chickpeas (aka tuna) sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese, tempeh bacon, vegenaise. So good! Would get again. The breakfast melt was veerryy good. It has organic seasoned tofu, choice of seitan, tempeh bacon or sausage, cheese, spinach, tomato, and roasted red pepper aioli. We got it with the sausage, which the cashier recommended. The cookies are made in house and vegan. The chocolate chip was sooo good! We couldn't believe it was vegan. We got everything to go. There's no parking in front of the restaurant. We had to park in the residential area on the street.

Mr Mr. Beef (Italian Beef) - Sandwich week special 2025
Sarah C.

Stopped by DC Vegetarian for Sandwich Week 2025! Got their special (Mr Beef) as well as an Italian Sub. I was happy with the order - they were pretty large portions, definitely something two people could have half of and feel satisfied. They're delicious, but you could tell they were vegan. This is an all-vegan business, serving sandwiches and burgers, wings, salads, soups and chili, some breakfast options, sides like pickles and chips, and desserts. I would say sandwiches are the focus and they range from $12-$15. They also sell some of their vegan meat by the pound. I believe they make nearly everything from scratch, so major props for that. Street parking only and it's not right out front. Takeout or dine in.

##4 Steak Sandwich

my go to for a quick bite -- #4 steak breakfast sandwich is so yummy and DC makes their proteins in house. i love the sauce on this sandwich and i always enjoy dining in. also, you can buy proteins in bulk !

I got my vegan steak & cheese fix! So fresh, tasty, and not hyper processed. Becky & Damian were friendly, and answered my questions about the food and concepts. I'd like to go back and try all the menu items. Highly recommend.

Italian Sub

Ordered the Italian sub and it did not disappoint. Totally legit and perfect submarine sandwich.

This all-vegan restaurant started as a food cart in downtown Portland back in 2009. Now they have their own brick and mortar, and they make their own seitan in house! Yes, please! I ordered the reuben, and it was the biggest, most delicious sandwich you could ever ask for. It was seriously enough for 2 meals if you're not a huge eater! The staff was super friendly. There was no line. There's picnic tables out front where you can eat, but it's mostly a takeout spot. I recommend doing what I did and taking your food a couple blocks down to the park and sit under the shade of a giant tree.

The cliff notes: really good fast vegan food! They have. Burgers, sandwiches, and melts. Super simple/ small menu but quality items. During the pandemic they're currently only offering takeout, I suggest calling your order in as you drive over. I was craving something hearty and comforting so I got the Philly cheesesteak and boy did it fit the bill. They were busy but they still managed to get this out to me in under 20! It was stuffed with seitan, their homemade sauce ( cheesy and creamy in nature) and the peppers and onions were perfectly grilled! 10/01. I ended up adding bbq to mine ( bc I am a huge bbq fan) and omg it added so much to it! I also saved half bc it was so filling and heated it up the next day and it wasn't soggy / had the same flavors. My only recommendations would be to offer to add grilled jalapeños to it- that would add such a lovely kick! And lastly to offer fries or some hot sides- this would've paired so nicely with some crispy fries, I ended up going across the street to the doghouse truck to snag some fries and a place to sit. Give this place a try next time you're in the area.

I cannot wait to come back here! The food is so good and without any of that "I took a life just so I could enjoy a tasty meal" guilt! Ya know, unless guilt is like your thing... Actually no, even if guilt is your thing you should try this restaurant out. You can feel guilt about other things, eating too much here, spending too much here, or even drinking too much here. Hot damn I'm helpful! My place is in the Pearl so I had to actually Uber here. It is totally worth the extra trouble! The uber driver told me her life story and how she became a Mormon. So I had lots to mull over while I contemplated my order. I decided on the War Eagle. Delightful! I tucked into those bourbon bbq curls like I hadn't been fed in days! The bbq wasn't too sweet, and it had a great texture. Chips on the side helped scoop what had fallen from my sandwich as I ate it... wish they had fries... I also had a bourbon based mixed drink to keep my party going ... it was huge! Tasty and well mixed! I'm counting down the days (a couple weeks) before I visit again. Totally wish they'd open one in San Diego!

Cheese #4 Steak Sandwich

Wanted to try this restaurant forever and a day and finally did. Had the cheesesteak and now that's all I can think about. Huge portion, fluffy soft sub roll, gooey cheesy yumminess. Loved the sweet peppers. Also had the choc chip sea salt cookie. Crisp on the edges chewy in the center and perfect amount of salt. Currently they are not open for dine in but hopefully they will again. Oh! And the staff is great! Can't forget about the staff.

I was incredibly happy to find out the Rice & Curry Plate is now available everyday of the week. The last time I visited, it was only a delicacy weekend option. The staff member who took our order was kind & quick to service us. Plenty of seating inside and outdoors available. Of course, the food was just as tasty and spicy as the first time I had it. Thank you to the wonderful chefs and people keeping this place running. I am so grateful to have the privilege to try this plate again and I look forward to my next visit to Portland, just for Mirisata. Highly recommend trying as you cannot go wrong ordering any item from their menu, but get the Rice & Curry Plate and your mind & body will thank you for it.

The menu is a bit challenging to navigate the first time through, but the staff is lovely and will help direct you. I'll say that the printed direction to order 4-7 dishes per person would be crazy. We did not need 35 dishes! Some of the dishes are very small, and some are enormous, so ask if you don't know to strike the perfect balance. Some are offered on a range of 1-5 spiciness, and it definitely leans on the spicy side, so you may want to stick with 1-3. The flavors here are fabulous! I was so impressed that with all vegan ingredients, each dish was fully differentiated and had its own unique flavor profile. The dining area reminded me so much of the street cafes throughout Asia. They nailed that fun, casual feel

In some places it was listed as Hapa PDX, while in others it showed up as PDX Ramen & Whiskey. I arrived around 3:30 pm, so there was no wait at all. Inside is pretty casual with bar seats and tables. They also had an outside covered sittings. The main chef and our server were both very friendly. When they found out it was our first visit, they helped us choose from the menu and explained each dish in detail. All the dishes were very tasty, and each one had a unique twist that I did not expect from the name, in a good way. The G Special Ramen had a nice kick, and the mushrooms in it were very juicy and flavorful. Pork nuggets were a bit too fatty for me. The tonkotsu ramen was not just a rich, milky pork broth. It had a chili oil twist that made it more interesting. The chashu was also unique. It seemed like the pork was grilled once more in the oven, giving it a crispy exterior. Their daily special bao was excellent as well. They mentioned that all the pickles and ingredients in the bao are made in-house. And its gochujang based sauce was very tasty. Overall, while every dish was different from what I expected from the names, it all had a flavorful and unexpected twist, and the meal was truly delightful.

We both ordered the G Special ramen, and it was rich, flavorful, and super comforting -- definitely the highlight of the meal. His grandmother got the Shoyu ramen and really enjoyed it; she said the broth was light but still full of flavor. We tried a couple of appetizers, and this is where things were a bit mixed. The pork belly tasted good but the portion size was disappointing for the price. The tofu appetizer, on the other hand, was actually pretty solid -- crispy, well-seasoned, and a nice start to the meal. I also got an iced matcha tea, and that ended up being a pleasant surprise. It had a smooth flavor and wasn't overly sweet, which I really appreciated. Overall, the ramen and drinks were delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed, and it made for a good family outing. A few tweaks to portion sizes would make it even better, but we'd still come back!
