Marissa is the girl to see at De Jolie! First started seeing her when I was at another salon and the girl botched my balayage so bad I had orange hair. I left that salon, called De Jolie, they set me up with an appointment that afternoon to see Marissa and she fixed it marvelously. Been going to her for the last few years ever since then! She has put up with me changing my mind every other visit and does a fantastic time consistently. After my initial color correction we added more lightness with a balayage. Then I chopped it all off and went darker. Then I grew it out and got a balayage again. There's nothing she can't do and it's an A+ every time! Update: went again this past week (September 2019) and have had seriously FIVE compliments on the color alone and a colleague of mine already set an appointment with her (next available at the end of the month). Upon initially walking in, this place is gorgeous. I was greeted and told that a receptionist would be with me soon. This took maybe 2 minutes for her to get with me and check me in. My husband and I moved up here last year and I had been trying to find a place to go for waxing. I was booked for a Brazilian wax and have had quite a few done previously at another place in Texas before moving up here. I have never had an issue with my hair being a certain length or not. This time was completely different. Upon my initial booking phone call, I had asked the person that booked me if their estheticians used hard wax for the process. She assured me that they did so I booked my appointment. I was never given my waxing specialist's name. Upon walking back to the waxing room I saw strips laying out on the counter and asked, "ohh, are you using strips today?" My esthetician said yes that she usually always does.i asked her how long she had been waxing for and she had said 10 years. So I thought ok well I guess that's fine. Mind you I've only had the hard wax used previously so I had no knowledge of the process for strips. I even told her I have never had the strip method, I've only had the hard wax method. I asked her if my hair was going to be too long to wax and she reassured me that it would be fine, and we proceeded. This was the most painful waxing I've ever had. She ended up having to trim strip wax coated hair on one of the sides and couldn't even get all of the hair. She tried using hard wax on the other side and didn't wait till it fully dried before trying to rip it off, so she had to continuously rip little portions out at a time which was extremely painful. I understand not wanting to continue to go over a place to wax to not hurt your client which she explained to me that it could rip my skin. She didn't even nearly spend as much time on the back end of my wax so I thought everything was clear and smooth. I get home and decide to take a small shower to wash any sticky ness off that could've been accidently left and find that not only was there hair in places left on the right side that I knew was going to be there, but the left as well and on my back end of my wax area. Like I said previously I've never had an issue with waxing before with the length I came in with and even a bit longer. But this was borderline traumatizing. I do not like confrontation or talking ill about people in public, and so when I left I paid for my wax and told the lady at the front that checked me out that my esthetician said that it would be good for me to try every four weeks to come in and get it done. So I was booked for an appointment in May. My esthetician was a sweet girl and I had no problem talking to her, but I will probably call back and cancel my appointment and try going to another place. read more

Reading other reviews people said they were offered something to drink kinda feel left out with that one but that's besides the point, I felt out of place there receptionists seemed to have an attitude, the nail tech was cold and barely talked to me I felt uncomfortable. When it came time to do my nails she somehow couldn't get them to stick i've never had that issue before and it seemed like she was just gonna tell me to leave, she seemed to be in a rush to leave anyways. When she asked what I wanted, I said I wanted a french tip when she was doing them she painted half of my nail i'm no nail tech but that's not a french tip. I thought she was going to clean it up or something but nope I spent almost $100 on nails that didn't look like what I asked. To me it's crazy she said she does her own nails had a gorgeous design on them but couldn't do a proper french tip?? It was 30 minutes after close I didn't want to be a bother so I just paid and left so mad I spent that much for nails I repainted over myself... read more

This is a beautiful and classy looking salon and spa. Great service too! I came here for a mani-pedi. Their nail services are done in a separate, smaller room off of the main salon, which meant it was a little cramped but still nice. The mani-pedi itself was great - lots of color options and the nail techs were all really friendly. My only small qualm was on the cleanliness. Not a huge deal, but most other salons I've been to open up a clean pack of tools or at least a clean set of files to use. While the tools here were soaking in solution, it was hard to tell how clean everything really was. read more

I love De Jolie! This is, without hesitation, the most gorgeous salon I've ever had the pleasure of walking into. I come here to see Kate for eyelash extensions. She is amazing! She is friendly, talented, gentle, and really helped calm me down the first time I got them. I was nervous about having my eyes closed for two hours. She is so gentle that each time I got the extensions, I was able to fall asleep. I would come see her more often if I were wealthy haha but those extensions can get very pricy if you're going every two weeks! I used to come in here regularly for the eyelash extensions but now I just get them done for special occasions. The girls at the desk always compliment my lashes when I'm on my way out, they're really sweet and make sure my experience is always a special one. I'm all the way out in Grosse pointe and I always thought coming here was well worth the commute! read more

My experience at De Jolie Salon was very disappointing. I went in for a trim and highlights. Typically, this is about an hour-ish appointment. My hair is already blonde therefore bleach should not be heated on my hair for longer than 15 mins. The hair dresser who did my hair left the bleach on my hair for over 40 mins after she was done with the foils, leaving some parts of my hair in bleach for over an hour. My hair is fried. It's beyond damaged. She also shaved the back of my head, when I already have thin hair, leaving my bob completely lifeless and flat. The hair dresser had black/brown short hair with blonde and a rose color to it. I do not recommend going to her. read more

Saddens me to leave a poor review & I leave very very few reviews but must put this out there. I moved to area from royal oak so obtained recommendations from friends to go to this salon (a few stylists recommended). Had a 5pm appmnt on a Tues. Showed up 440pm (15-20 min early & was told by receptionist after she took note of who I was, they will "be with you shortly". Fast forward to 517pm & not one peep from anyone since I checked in. Not a can I get you anything, she's running late, nothing. So I walk back up to the same 2 front desk staff and say I need to cancel my appmnt. "Who are you? What time? With who? Oh ok you are all set". Not a "is everything ok?" Or even "can we reschedule you?". So disheartening & just poor poor customer service. Mind you lobby was even pretty quiet. I was only one sitting down for about a 5-10 min period. I've been to some fabulous salons in Royal Oak/Birmingham area for a 6-7 year period and never had this happen. Back to the drawing board of finding a new hair dresser/salon near New Baltimore! read more

I struggle with leaving a bad rating, as it's not comfortable for me hide behind my computer and criticize. The only reason I am, is to possibly prepare someone for what "could" happen to them. I did not have a comfortable experience. It felt like I was a number. I explained prior to making the appointment that I had been struggling with finding a place that could cut my hair how I am asking for it to be cut. This was my first time being there. I was not greeted with hi I am "so and so", welcome, nice to meet you, I'll be cutting your hair. I was brought back by an assistant. My hair was washed, then I was brought to the chair. Even at that point I was not greeted by the stylist, no introduction. The stylist stated she had a message from my phone call when I booked, read the notes she had and just started getting to work. Didn't really want to hear in my words, again I felt like I was on an assembly line. She cut, not talking much, which is fine. I can understand someone concentrating while they're working. But she did however talk to people around her, like I wasn't there. She then had her assistant go wash her next client while still cutting me. After my hair was cut, she had not one, but 2 assistants blow drying my hair simultaneously while she cut the next client. When my hair was almost dry, she had one assistant stop drying me to go and get a second clients hair washed. She then came back to do some more cutting to my hair while dry. I had to point out that it still wasn't what I had requested and that she confirmed when my haircut began. I asked her to take more off. I felt like she was rushing through my haircut so that she could get to the second client. And even after cutting more off, it still wasn't as short as I requested. The care didn't feel like it was there, especially after knowing my previous experiences. I also over tipped because I felt the need to tip her what I would normally give a stylist and then both of her assistants on top of that. None of this would have been as big of an issue if I felt like I walked out with a good haircut. It still wasn't what I had asked for and instead of multiple layers, I had two. There was a disconnect with the layering I had asked for. Instead of face framing I got a bowl around my chin and the framing around the face was uneven from side to side. There was a disconnect from the chin layer and the length. She was fluffing it when it was done so I couldn't get a true feel for it until I got to the car and in the natural light that I could see it better. Just disappointing being disappointed yet again, especially after trying to be clear when booking and again not feeling heard in the moment. Another thought is when a new client books, the salon follow up to get this kind of feedback. There might not be as many poor reviews on places if businesses seemed to care about the customer. read more

I called to make appointments with their Spa section. I was told that the Assistant Manger had to handle appointments for over 2 people (I had 3 total). I thought this was odd; however, it is not my business so who am I to tell them it is horrible customer service. I left my name and number then heard absolutely nothing back. I called again, this time speaking to different person and they said I was misinformed. She could help me out. So I told her what we were looking for only to find out, the services I wanted were no longer available because they were booked. Well Thank you, Thank you very much for wasting my time. I would suggest that if you attempt to go to this place, you make sure everything is done while you are on the phone. Then I would call back to double check it was completed. Plus on the day of your appointment, I would call again to make sure you are still on the schedule. A great deal of work and truly not worth it in my opinion. read more

I had my hair and makeup trial done this weekend for my upcoming wedding. I was extra nervous due to getting these services on the same day Bridal Shower. I was blown away and so impressed! First off the salon is very clean, bright and welcoming. Very friendly staff not only to clients but with one another too. I had makeup services done by Kristy and my hair styled by Alecia W. Both exceeded my expectations. Very friendly, listened to what I wanted and were able to provide their professional opinions on how to elevate the look I was going for. Will absolutely use their services again and suggest them to anyone looking. Lovely salon, but the schedulers messed up my appointment after speaking with them 2 or 3 times explaining exactly what I wanted and clarifying their email confirmation. My "add-on" service was still messed up, so I ended up getting my massage but NO additional service. Shockingly, the add-on gal (pedicurist) seemed upset at ME over mistake made by Salon, and to make matters worse, I discovered that after I left the area she had continued complaining about what happened publicly in front of other customers. I do understand that one employee's unprofessional behavior may not be reflective of the Salon in general. I want to add that since writing this, the Salon owner contacted me personally, respectfully listened to all of my concerns and could not have been more understanding and apologetic. She appreciated being informed of what happened from a professional standpoint so that something could be done to prevent it happening in the future, and pointed out their revamped webpage that even the staff was getting used to. She also sent me a followup email thanking me again and informing me that she'd spoken with this employee and that they both apologized. I very much appreciated her response. read more

Just got back and love my hair! Natalie did a great job evening out my color (I recently box-dyed my hair and the result was no bueno) and was super nice! She did a great job with the style too! After 6 years of going to this Salon, my mother was treated rudely by her Manicurist, Tammy, and Stylist, Jessica, for the last time. I can't believe how unprofessional these two are to their client....whispering comments back and forth. I would encourage all of you to find a place where you know that you are going to be treated with respect at all times and that management will take your side by reprimanding said employees. Way overpriced!! Stylist was judgmental and went crazy with the highlights. Stylist didn't understand what it meant by no brassy highlights and cooler tones. Dried my hair out even though I told her I was trying to stay on the cautious side. Pushed new "conditioning" highlights for extra money which made no difference, in fact, made hair worse due to extreme unwanted highlighting. Manager of salon made no attempt to redeem experience since I refused to go back. Could have offer at least half of my money back since total cost was over $200. Highlights looks orange and cheap. Had to purchase boxed dye to fix. Manager/owner washed her hands with the issue since I didn't have a picture and dyed my hair for immediate fix. My partner and I went there for the first time with a gift card we had gotten and the nail services were horrible. I would never recommend this salon spa for any nail services! The nail tech I had wasn't very rude. Claimed she had been doing this for 20+ years I couldn't tell. Probably the worst nails services I have ever gotten in my life. I have gotten hundreds of nail services in my life. She couldn't even file a straight line to save her life, also there were no cuticle care done. The mani and pedi lasted about 30-35 mins. I have been going to this salon for about a year now. The last couple of times I've been, my stylist has pawned me off for apprentice practice while she double books herself in her one night/week workday. Since someone who doesn't have much practice is doing my hair, it takes 3x as long and I've been there for 2.5-3 hrs. instead of the original 1.5 hrs. it took my stylist to do the cut and color before she was overbooking. I scheduled an appointment months ago and the salon called me 15 minutes before my scheduled appt to see if I could come in later. I was put on hold and then hung up on. When I called back, I told them I would be finding another salon. They called me back and miraculously my stylist was available at my original appt. time, but I will be finding someone who values me as a customer. read more

This salon is absolutely fantastic. I've been getting my hair done by Jessica G. for the last year very regularly. We've done everything from take my platinum blonde hair to dark brown and back, and she's done such an incredible job every single time! She's also supremely skilled with HairDreams extensions-we kept mine in for almost a year and they looked unbelievable! She is adamant about taking her time to make your hair look perfect and is brilliantly detail-oriented. Best stylist I've EVER been to-so much so that she now has my mom, sister in law, and other friends of mine as lifetime clients. Also, Marissa has done my makeup several times for special occasions and events and it's been nothing but a great experience-She's a VERY skilled makeup artist. This salon really goes the extra mile to ensure relaxation. I received a package for Christmas that included a 30 minute massage, 30 minute facial, and express manicure and pedicure. Massages are always good -I had to tell the lady to use more pressure and she did and it was even better! The facial was probably the best part. The girl was really nice and took her time. She also did an extraction which consists of them taking this little tool to remove noticeable blemishes. Bonus! Then she assessed the condition of my skin, asked what products I used, and basically told me when to use what. I thought that was great as I've always been careful with the skin on my face and appreciate the advice. Manicure and pedicure were pretty basic. Love the pedicure but the polish on my nails didn't lay right so they looked smudgy. The location of this spa is not near me but I would definitely go back for a facial when I have time. read more

This was my first time at the salon. I asked for a level 4 stylist. I wanted a color change and a different style. The stylist recommended a bylage with root cover up. The "new" style was basically cutting up the frame of the hair around my face. Now, it just hangs there and doesn't even blend in. I walked out literally as I came in. The disappointing factor in all of this is when I left I had an appointment with a client. She asked me if I had a bruise on my cheek and what was dark all around my hairline. I looked in the mirror and it was the dye! I was so embarrassed. Apparently I didn't notice this with the lighting in the salon. But come on this person washed my hair, blew dry it and so called styled it and she didn't see this? What sloppy work. After spending $230 plus a 20% tip..yeah, I will not be returning. read more

I had an appointment for a facial. I arrived before the scheduled time and promptly checked in. After 10 minutes of waiting, the receptionist confirmed that the esthetician will be with me shortly, that she was getting the room ready. After another wait, she showed up only to inform me that she had to cancel my appointment due to her daughter spiking a high fever and having to go home right away. The manager apologized and explained that many people are sick these days (?!?!) and offered to reschedule. Only after I told my sister to cancel it altogether (she was going to pay for a gift card for me as this was my Christmas gift from her), they offered a complementary facial. It would have been appropriate to be offered that free service right away. Anyway, this is no the first time it happened to me at that location. About 9 months ago, I made an appointment for the same thing only to receive a call about an hour before the appointment to let me know the esthetician was not able to come in. I will definitely not return. It was very disappointing as I had to go to the coffee shop next door and wait for the other members of our party (it was a girls date) to get their facials and hair done.
