Right. Where to begin. How about at the beginning, with a BLUF. Here's the BLUF: This is hands-down the most professional, skilled, capable, polite, responsive, and affordable lawn company I've ever worked with. Period. I'm using them for absolutely everything now. The longer version; my wife and I have been living in our house on Dictionary Hill for about two years, and while the house is absolutely wonderful one of the things we didn't really dig too hard was the fact that the back yard, most of which is paving stones, had something like a 12 degree slant to it. This made putting up a temporary pool in the summer time problematic at best, and even sitting out there you had to hang on to your drinks or else they'd tip over at the slightest nudge. Plus, it was going to damage the resale if the yard wasn't leveled. So I reached out for some quotes by direct calling some companies to see how much it'd cost to level the yard, and most of them came in around $5-7K. Finally, out of frustration I put out a multiple quote request on Yelp for bids, and Florentino responded first and essentially said he could come out for a quote the next day. His quote came in much lower than competitors, and we agreed upon a start date. His crew showed up at 0730 the start date, and worked full days until it was done and the work was incredible. I was impressed enough that I booked them for bi-weekly maintenance. The only small gripe that I could possibly have is that Florentino can be a bit slow to respond to texts, but generally always answers when I call. Other than that, I can't knock the work at all and overall I'm extremely happy with this company. 7/5 stars. read more

Never heard back called and called back and forth and kept standing me up and obviously never showed up. Kept giving an excuse after excuse oh I forgot or I was to busy blah blah blah.... Hello Yelpers! I want to give a recommendation for anybody who needs an awesome gardener or landscape contractor. My mom and I came up with the vision and we needed the skilled labor to get it done. I tried to get a few quotes from others who were recommended on the various Coronado Facebook group pages but none of those folks panned out (because there was no follow up with actual quotes...). So I looked on Yelp and decided to contact De La Rosa Landscaping. Florentino and his brother took our vision, and made everything go from zero to hero. Bonuses: When he came out to see and meet with us the first time, he took the time to do measurements, and he even wrote up, explained and gave me his written quote a half hour later. He said 2 weeks to get the job done, and it took a week and these guys worked from 7am to 7pm almost everyday. Super reasonably priced. Paid what he quoted originally. Good honest people. Called and spoke with owner about a job. While not a giant job, it's certainly not small either. Only after asking all about the scope of work I wanted did he tell me he was too busy. I don't recommend working with businesses that cherry pick jobs. read more

Our friends always have the most impeccable landscaping so when it came time for us to hire someone we of course asked for the referral. We have not been disappointed. Mr. De La Rosa responded and toured our property right away and his crew has been amazing. The man that comes to our yard is very kind and anything I have asked him to do he has done expertly. We have a lot of succulents that had been neglected and now they look impeccable. my husband jokes that he is a plant surgeon and he isn't wrong. The care that is taken with removing every leaf by leaf on a succulent really makes them shine. read more

He made time to come even later in the evening same day to come take a look what we needed to be done and gave me a quote on spot. We agreed on a day following week. Florentino was the one confirming our appointment day before, I did not have to write to him. He took the initiative. Next morning he was at my door 7am sharp! We contracted Florentino and his team to put down a new layer of DG, de-weed, install lights, and general maintenance. My rationale for this review are as follows: 1) he didn't verify what color DG we wanted and we couldn't assess until after he was done with his work (would expect a professional to ask these questions and verify), 2) he installed the lights unevenly across our pathway, 3) he just laid down the DG instead of making it compact like other service provides would do (it just looks like dirt spread all over with footprints showing), 4) when I called him to discuss all of this he said he would come back to the house and come to an agreeable solution. However he has stopped answering my calls and text messages. Unfortunate he doesn't have a website either or registered with the BBB. I genuinely believe Florentino was a standup service provider when we met, however his lack of responsiveness and mistakes made during the work come across as unprofessional and unfortunate. read more

Florentino was an absolute pleasure to work and I was very impressed with him. He totally transformed the back and sideyard to our house (check out my makeover picts). I was worried it was possible because the place was an absolute jungle when he started, but he was masterful at quickly gathering my vision, finding a cost effective solution, and waving his magic wand to make it happen. The place looks so clean and idyllic now, you would never know how much dirt, weeds, and shrubbery were cleared away. All I know is that if De La Rosa can pull off a job as challenging as this, working with a remote client who is as detailed as me, they are bound to succeed in any job you could possibly throw their way. Mr. Florentino de La Rosa replied to me within one day of my inquiry to help me sod my garden. He came the next day, measured all the areas that needed new grass and gave me a great bid. The other companies I also asked for a bid were more expensive and their turn around time was two months longer. He gave me a big smile when I said "I might call you bak" and replied "It is my pleasure to have come and helped you, you can call me Today, tomorrow or never, as long as you are happy". I had to laugh. I called several days later and said " I am in a bit of a time crunch cause I just rented out my home. When can you start the job?" He said "As soon as you tell me". I said tomorrow? and he showed up seven am to begin the work. There were lots of large roots from old trees I had just taken down that the other team had told me they would remove and did not. He shook his head and said "This was not on my list" but he went ahead and took two days to cut them out with hatchets, machetes and the like anyway at no extra cost. He also removed two inches of bad dirt and replaced it with nice new earth before rolling out the new grass. It was a miracle he finished it all so soon and so well done. Hard working, always pleasant and polite, and efficient in a timely manner. He left no garbage, no dirt, nothing other than a wonderful job. He swept my walkways and driveway to make the place look just perfect. Then he took extra time to find out what sprinklers worked, and which went where, and not only adjust them, but also set them up with a timer to make sure the grass was well watered while the house stood empty for a week. I was so impressed I have made him my permanent gardener! read more

Mr. De La Rosa and his crew did a beautiful job on my backyard! They installed a french drain and drains in my yard. He and his crew are very hard working. Florentino is an articulate landscaper and very knowledgeable. They came early in the morning and stayed until late afternoon, until the job was completed. They tested all drains and ensured they worked fine. Florentino is a very sincere, honest and patient man. He explained to me what he was doing and why when installing the drains. I plan to hire them again for other landscaping needs, as soon as next week. They work great as a team and get the job done! Leaving an immaculate site. Mr. Florentino Delarosa (Tino) and his men did a great job at a very reasonable price at our home. His price was unbeatable by anyone else. We got our entire backyard done from him which included installing pavers, artificial turf, plants, drip irrigation, drains and DG. Tino was very patient and was able to accommodate change of plans on the fly. Tino also provided backyard designs which was needed for HOA approval. He also came with us to nursery and helped select plants. Needless to mention Tino is a perfectionist and takes his time to make sure things are perfect. Florentino over charged for small jobs. Gave one quote then the day of the job the quote was much higher. Used material that was already available. Purchased not enough material to cover a larger grounds. Just does landscaping only, will not pick up any small pieces of trash in the yard. Doesn't fertilize seasonal plants as requested. I had to go buy more gravel to fill in the low sports. The yard does look better than what it was, but the high price to get there for such a small area was over the top. read more

We were so happy to find Florentino willing to do our small 140 sq ft paver installation. No other landscapers would even consider a job that small. He and his worker did a phenomenal job on the installation, finishing on the second day. They were professional and kept the job site orderly, leaving it completely clean of any disorder or debris. Florentino and his crew are great! They did hardscape in my back yard: buried gas line, sprinkler lines, drainage lines, and concrete patios. I know my stuff, and I know they did a good job on the buried utilities, the base for the concrete, and the concrete itself. They did more than asked for on the drain lines (they put in FIVE drains I didn't request!) and they were clean and thorough on the concrete forms. They were flexible and accommodating with some last minute changes. All was done according to spec. They take pride in their work, and are careful and considerate. Some words of advice to future clients: Specify what you want in careful detail, making sure everyone understands what you want. If a spec is important to you, pay attention to make sure it is adhered to. Follow up with them a lot. If you are a picky customer, these aren't the kind of guys that will do everything to above-and-beyond spec without you asking. They aren't Cadillac landscapers, but you will get what you ask for - if you ask for it clearly and watch to make sure it gets done. Also, you are best off coming up with your own plan, or hiring a planner to help you, because these guys don't take strong positions on what would look good, or what ought to be done. Make sure your plan is clear and detailed, and follow up on it as the work progresses. I'm very happy with them and I am glad I hired them for my work. read more

Drainage problems? Look no further. We needed a new drain put into our yard before El Niño hit and Delarosa was the right call. Okay, no frills, and we had to rent a snake from Home Depot, but Florentino and his worker cleared out part of an old drain and installed a new one at a fraction of the cost of a larger company! I had gotten quotes that were outrageous from contractors mentioned here on Yelp with their fancy trucks and business cards. Delarosa worked so hard and finished in ONE day. Florentino and his team are very hard workers. I have already recommended them to some friends, and we will use him for some more work that we need to have done. Once you tell Florentino what you want done, he remembers everything and does it just as was discussed. They showed up early, worked long hours, and got the job done when they said they would. And, everything was done just as we hoped it would be done. This is very different from other experiences we've had with other gardeners where you have to keep reminding them how you wanted things done. For example, we wanted our trees and bushed pruned and shaped, not just boxed off like many gardeners do, and they did it just like we wanted it done. BAD: Tino did our lawn 1 year ago. Since then 100% of the grass he installed is dead, 50% of our plants died, 50% of the lights which he installed do not work! I am convinced that the lighting and drainage that Tino installed were used. They quickly deteriorated and as mentioned, 50% of the lights no longer function. I would NOT recommend Tino or Delarosa Landscape. BUYER BEWARE. # # Additionally - after initial installation, we used him for weekly lawn servicing. His 'team' would frequently not show up, but he would still bill me, WTF! read more

Florentino is a hands on manager and is regularly on site helping his crew. He is quality conscious and tries hard to please his clients. He and his crew did a great job on our yard, building some complex patio covers, and creating some nice masonry and concrete work. The selection of plants was also good, but even though I asked that the plants be fertilized on planting and the trees staked, he did not do so. Several of the trees went into severe shock, and even though I asked that he replace 1 or 2 of them, he insisted they would come back. After 1 year, they have not. I would definitely recommend Florentino, but also suggest you insist that plants be fertilized and trees staked. read more

Great service, great price, quality work! We needed to put in a drain at the side of our house because stagnant water was building when it rained. Delarosa finished the job in one day: They had to cut concrete, install 3 drains, and then they put pavers over it to make it look really nice. They were also super affordable! I will go to them for all future landscaping type needs. read more
