I looked it up on yelp and saw the numerous positive reviews and accompanying photos and figured I'd give it a shot. I called the number and made an appointment for noon the follow day which was easy. I walked in and promptly sat down and gave him the style I wanted and he went to work. The shop was empty (that's the perk of getting your cut the day AFTER a holiday weekend) so he was able to take a little extra time and 40 minutes later, I came out looking great and feeling even better with my hair finally cut and beard trimmed. Cost was $45 and I added a tip on top of that. I paid cash, but he said he took credit card and Venmo as well.

Luckily, one of my close friends put me on Richie's and I haven't looked back since. Richie's Barbershop truly goes above and beyond to give amazing cuts and their customer service is top tier. Everyone in the shop is friendly and makes sure whenever you walk in that you feel at home. My Barber Mariay is simply the best to do it! I never have to worry about my hair when I am getting a cut from her and she is always checking in throughout my time there. She gives fantastic cuts, always listens to clients and even ends with a massage gun after the cut...you really can't beat that! I always get a close fade with a trim on the top, a clean line up by a razor blade and she has me on my way feeling like a new person. Mariay is by far my favorite barber I have had and I cannot recommend her highly enough! If you are looking for your next barber, Mariay will get you looking right. I am so happy I found Richie's Barbershop and have a solid place in Santa Barbara to get a clean cut. Although Mariay is my barber, the rest of the staff is top tier too! I am not loyal to any one shop in town, I really like them all and I'm a poor planner when it comes to routines like haircuts and personal appointments, I am the guy who ducks into any door with a barber pole next to it. When I first walked into Goleta Barbers, I paused. As I observed the shop and customers, my reading is that this is a safe, "third place" for men-of-color. A haven free from racist BS. I am an old white guy and I immediately felt like I might be considered as an outsider--maybe even unwelcome. [side note: If you don't believe that racist BS exists in our beautiful area, I have a few books for you to read and we'll discuss. We all have work to do.] Now, after being offered a seat and getting a great haircut, I can say that I am either very welcome at Goleta Barbers, or the professionals are great at pretending to like me. Both Pete and Al are great at their work and just an absolute pleasure to talk with. Two places that make me feel like I am living in the present and also the distant past: A chair at Goleta Barbers and in front of the beautifully carved wood bar at Pepe's.
